The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

This sounds like a good idea. Sorry I'm a little late to the party; kinda scatter-brained and such, but it could be an interesting way to play it out. Sounds like a possibly long and semi permanent major change for the site.
IC: Ted walked to the pool. In this weather it was rather chilly and he certainly didn't like the cold. It was around finals and he needed a break from studying. There were certain times of the year that he really didn't like. Finals was one of them. He'd spent much of his time cramming and making up work that he'd missed for various reasons. Teddy wanted to get away. He needed to figure somethings out and it wasn't something that his doctor could help him work out. At least not right at the moment.
Either way he turned the cold wind bit at his skin. There was no getting away from it. Well, not unless he went back in and put more clothes on. He had no intention of doing that. But wait... There was one way for him to get out of the wind. He concentrated on a creature that could to multiple things. He shrunk almost immediately and his body grew faux feathers and darkened. A gold patch grew on his chest, while the rest of his front turned white. His back became all black, along with his head. The penguin waddled the rest of the way through the not-so-biting wind and not-so-cold-anymore-weather to the pool. He needed to get some fun and exercise. That's why the pool was his choice.
The stuffed animal shifter waddled to the pool slid in with a faint plop. The water didn't affect him, even though he felt a little like a sponge absorbing some of the water. But it didn't make him cold at all. When the shifter surfaced he saw a person napping on one of the chairs. It's too cold out to sleep out here. Teddy thought. He swam around a little, surfacing now and then much like a real penguin would. The only sound that came was from his submersion and surfacing.
Teddy jumped when the voice spoke to him. He whipped around to see who it was. He didn't think he'd been in anyone's way, but maybe he had. "Oh. Sorry. Kara, I didn't even hear you come up." Teddy was a little embarrassed that he let someone get so close to him, especially after all he'd been through recently. One would think that he would have learned his lesson.
The young mutant smiled at Kara for a bit. Finally he said,"So...What's going on? Haven't seen you in a while." Neither of which was either of their faults. Ted still blamed Sam for all that happened to him, even though he was told it wasn't even Sam's fault. She seemed troubled. Maybe he could help. They had been nice to each other in the past, or so he thought that was true. Some of his memories were still fuddled up and fuzzy from his kidnapping.
Teddy's visits had been going fine. He'd been looking for some friends lately. Some that wouldn't freak out if he had a melt down. Just one, maybe two... To many people would probably freak him out but either way his doctor thought he should hang out with people more than just be by himself.
And so it was that Teddy found himself wandering the hallways of the mansion. A few people passed by him here and there. Most of whom he didn't know and didn't want to explain to many thing to. Ted walked around passing dorms and even stopping for a short time at the kitchen for a quick snack before moving on to another lap around the mansion. As he made his way through one hallways he reached a painting that he hadn't noticed before. It was interesting to him for some reason. Maybe it reminded him of home, or maybe delved deeper than that and brought up something that the kidnapping and subsequent rescue had repressed.
Either way the picture of the woods with its tall green pine trees, thick undergrowth and over hanging painted a vivid picture in his mind. If he stared hard enough he thought he could see birds in the trees and he even thought that there was a deer painted in the background, almost like it was pushing through some underbrush far away from where the painter had sat. He was studying the painting so close that he didn't even hear the footsteps coming up behind him.
Go out they said. It'd be fun. They said. What could possibly go wrong? they said. How about a rowdy biker gang crashing the haunted house and terrorizing everyone in the building. Perhaps that is what Teddy should have said when his group was convincing him to go with them. Maybe then he wouldn't be trapped in this ancient building with crowds of panicking people all scrambling around or getting pushed around by the bikers. Some were being harassed, while many others were getting pushed around and into things or people. Teddy was just looking for a nice night out. No chaos. Was that to much to ask for? Apparently it was.
The angry comment from the Pokemon lady seemed like it was so long ago. Everyone's attention was now focused on the bikers and keeping out of their way. Ted was no exception. He didn't want to fight. He had a feeling that it would only take a couple of minutes before he ran into problems, and he didn't mean losing the fight. Ted had been expertly trained but he didn't want to use any of it because he was afraid he might not stop. Teddy hustled down a hallway, trying to stay out of trouble when the remnants of a table created an opening the architect would have objected to. From that newly opened wall Ted could clearly see a girl beating the snot out of a biker. That biker certainly didn't look like he was getting up any time soon, not to mention not looking forward to using the restroom in the near future. Table pieces, plaster, dry wall were strewn across his costume and he brushed himself off. He decided to use the new entrance and walked towards the girl that had just put down the biker. He flashed her a thumbs up and looked around in case someone was going to come barging through at him.
"Nice punch." Teddy complimented the girl. There would be plenty of time afterwards for compliments. They needed to get through this. One thing that he could be glad of from his training is that his body wouldn't let him loose. Ted was about to say something else when he was suddenly pushed against a wall. One of the bikers seemed to think that it would be a good idea to pick on him. The back of Ted's head smacked against the wall behind him. That was all it took. Like a switch being turned on. The doctor said that some of the things they used would probably never be completely out of his system. He took a quick glance around surveying the area, size, and available space of his location. His already emerald green eyes seemed to get even darker. One thing came to mind. Lion.
The biker saw the look in Teddy's eyes and advanced towards him. This guy had been cooped on a bike for who know how long an he was eager for a fight. He was going to go after the girl that took down his fellow rider but decided that the young mutant would be a better target for him to have fun with. As the biker advanced Teddy completed his transformation into a rather realistic looking stuffed lion. Teddy's furry mane shook and he lunged at the biker. Although he wasn't a real lion he still had considerable weight. He hurtled toward the biker weighing almost 70 lbs. To say the biker was surprised would be an understatement. The full force of the stuffed lion slammed into the biker, knocking him backwards and over his buddy lying on the floor. The lion glared at him and he bolted. Teddy thought about turning back but decided he was more comfortable like this at the moment than he was in his normal appearance. Ted looked at the girl with his beaded eyes but didn't make any threatening moves once the biker had backed away.
I would like to volunteer Teddy for a thread. As his mutation is great for spying. They could be the start of a bad joke, A stuffed animal and a beach ball were just minding their business...
As with every new animal he couldn't do anything but float there. They either didn't know that or didn't care about that fact. Once he was fully change they started to demand that he move and swim. At the moment he didn't do anything. He was just thankful that he wasn't freezing anymore. Ted floated there and tried to move around. Nothing was happening. Kara made him stay there until he started to change back.
Days passed like this. Then weeks. Beatings were given as a result of his failure to listen and comply. As the days and weeks went by he started to get more and more control over the stuffed animals body and by the end of the third week he was swimming down to the bottom of the pool without even thinking about it. This pleased Kara and she rewarded him justly with an extra helping of his 'medicine'. After they were satisfied with that they moved on to forcing him to learn the other animals. It was the same process, although less throwing him into freezing water and more prodding and pushing to force him to change. They're only trying to help. He told himself as he was once again forced to change into the Mammoth and soon afterwards the penguin. Teddy was getting wiped out. He didn't know how much more of this shifting he could take in the same day.
It was the second week of him changing into the mammoth and he could still just barely move his feet more than a few inches. It didn't seem like anything he did sped the process up. He couldn't really practice in his cell because one, he didn't want to, and two there wasn't enough room for it. His bigger shapes didn't leave much room for him to do much of anything. Interestingly enough, even though they seemed to know of many of his stuffed animals he was able to keep some a secret from them and they hadn't made him try those yet. He was going to keep those to himself as long as possible.
Finally when they were pleased enough with his work Kara gave him an extra day to rest. Little did he know but he was going to be going on the mission sooner than he thought.
The next morning Kara greeted Ted in the same way. "Excito" she said and handed him his morning drink. A few sips and he could feel the 'medicine' running through his veins again. It was always a pleasureful feeling when he had that in the morning. Kara lead him down a different direction that day. It was like the place kept growing and Ted was always being lead to the new parts of it.
On this day, before he even knew what was going on he was pushed into a pool. Not a nice pool that was warm and made for lap swimming. This was a deep pool. It was made for diving, like one of those pools that you see in pictures that goes down a hundred or so feet. Teddy immediately had to start treading water. There were no hand rails and no steps. It was like whoever dug this hole was able to not only drill straight down but they didn't seem to need a way out. Since he was thrown in without warning he ended up swallowing a bunch of water.
Teddy came up sputtering and spitting water out of this mouth trying to clear his lungs of the water he'd just swallowed. And as if that wasn't bad enough the water was cold. Very cold. His limbs were quickly beginning to go numb and he was shivering almost immediately when he finally surfaced. His body was in shock and he needed to get out or he would die. "Change! Use your powers to save you. Be thankful that this is warmer than what you will be thrown into on your mission. In that area the water is around 2 degrees Celsius." Kara said exasperated. Ted was shivering still and having trouble concentrating on what she was saying.
His water treading was becoming more difficult and he was slowly sinking. Kara looked around at the guards that were dressing in all black dry suits, ready to retrieve him whenever Kara gave the command. "Change!"she shouted again. Ted thought for a second. He didn't know if any of his shapes would keep him warm. He was looking around hoping someone would help him, but they all knew better than to help him unless told to do so from a handler. His eyes begged for them to get him out but even he knew that it was useless. A couple more times his head went under the water and each time it took him longer to get back to the surface. His body was shutting down and he didn't know if anything would help him.
There was no choice. No help. He was in this slightly above freezing water with people only to stare at him as he slowly slipped into unconsciousness. He closed his eyes and concentrated on one of the animals he'd acquired the day before. It was the biggest he'd ever gotten and one that few had even seen in real lives. The giant squid was giant, even for a stuffed animal. Red satin covered his body and his already weak arms grew longer and thinner into squid arms. Unfortunately, at that time his insides all decided to turn to stuffing and he could no longer tread water and his head took another dip underwater. The only good thing about it was that he didn't need to because the stuffing floated. He popped back up to the surface just as his head started to elongate and his eyes changed to the black and white satin of the stuffed animal. His legs changed and more arms protruded from his body as the final changes occurred. He was no longer breathing, and he no longer felt the cold. He felt the water that was around him but all he did was float in it. Thankfully, this shape came in handy. It was all Ted could do to keep from hypothermia and drowning.
When it was all said and done, Ted was smaller than his normal human size, only about four feet long. He had ten arms in total, two of which were much longer than the others used for feeding, and eight that he supposed were for moving around. Teddy had a mouth...actually it was a beak, but it didn't matter because he couldn't eat anything like this anyway.
Ted heard about a haunted house being put on by the NYPD. It was broadcast all over the TV and it was all over the mansion. Bundles of kids had been talking about going. He'd discussed it with his doctor that he was hesitant to go but the doctor assured him that it would be fun and a good chance for him to make some more friends around the place. In the end Ted decided to go with a group of kids from the mansion. He knew a few from classes and some were friends of friends. They were all dressed up in their various costumes.
The stuffed animal shifter went with a rather unoriginal costume. He was dressed in black pants, black shoes, and a loose fitting blue shirt that had the old Star Trek emblem on it. He would have gone with the red shirt but everyone knows that the red shirt guys die first; besides he wanted to wear something that he could easily hide if he wanted to disappear from the crowds. Ever since his rescue crowds made him just slightly nervous and likely to have another episode.
The place was filling up with people rather quickly and he wanted to make sure that he stuck with his friends. Somehow, somewhere in the mix he got washed away from his group and bumped into someone dressed from the Pokemon. At least that's who he thought it was judging from the odd looking tiger-with-a-Mohawk thing she was holding. "Sorry." He said, inadvertently putting his hand on the Growlithe. As he removed his hand he had that some of the fur from the stuffed animal stayed on his hand.
Ted was waiting in his room. He was supposed to have been picked up an hour ago but no one showed to let him out. Teddy was getting worried. Kara was never late to get him. She was always on time. Thoughts of dread started to play in his head. Did I do something wrong? Is she made at me? No. the thoughts flew in and out of his head, but they didn't help diminish his fear of why Kara had left him in his cell today. They weren't supposed to be skipping training today. This was a big day. That's what she'd told him yesterday.
Pretty soon he could see lights flashing out in the hallway. Ted had no idea what they meant. Ever since he'd been there he'd never seen those lights flashing. Something must have been wrong. He heard someone yell to lock it down and that was when Ted knew that something was definitely wrong. Panic started to set in with him. Were they going to leave him here? Were they going to kill him because he was to valuable now? So many questions and so few answers. There were guards running to and fro and none had the time to stop and tell him what was going on.
Finally a couple of guards came to his cell. "Time to go." was all one of them said. They seemed to be very nervous and they weren't taking any chances. They put handcuffs on him. "You think I'm going to run? I couldn't leave Kara unless she says so." The guards just rolled their eyes and started to drag him out of the cell. Time was of the essence. The guards kept looking over their shoulders like they expected someone to come barging through on one side of the hallway or the other.
Teddy looked around as they hustled him on. "Hey, why do you guys have guns?" They looked like they were going into a riot. Full body armor, pistols, helmets with face shields, extra magazines and even M4A1 SOPMOD's on their backs. They were definitely expecting trouble. He continued to shuffle along still wondering where Kara was and why she wasn't here to get him out. They were just reaching the door when the one at the far end of the hallway was breached. Teddy turned to see who it was that was causing this commotion.
Teddy continued to explain his powers. "I have never tried a water animal. I don't know how I will react to being in a water stuffed animal form. I haven't really gotten a chance to fully check out my powers. Also, it takes me a while to learn how to use new shapes. I don't know how hard it will be or how long it will take to learn a water animal." Ted couldn't tell if this news enraged or encouraged the people that were sitting at the table a short distance away from him. Kara and the panel had a few quiet conversations together that the young mutant couldn't hear. He was listening as hard as he could but they made sure that they couldn't be overheard as they discussed whatever it was that they were talking about.
The stuffed animal shifter shifted around in his seat a bit. His chair was uncomfortable, and the air seemed stale but cool. Even though the air was cool, he had that nervous sweat going on and he was really worried that they would be disappointed with what he was telling them. Teddy wasn't even sure why they were having this conversation because they had his file was sitting in front of each of them. The conversation didn't last too much longer and the mysterious people sitting before him left and Kara and him were left alone in the room. After a while Kara left and about ten minutes later Ted was escorted out and to a different room. in the room there Kara.
Just like most of the rooms that he'd been in before there wasn't much besides a table, Kara, and himself. Sitting on the table were two stuffed animals. They were pretty large animals and he wasn't sure how they'd gotten something that big there so fast. There was a row of different stuffed animals sitting on the table. Two of them were very big, one looked like it was about the size of a real penguin, one just looked like a smaller version of the real thing, and one was so big that it didn't even fit on the table. Teddy just looked at Kara, confused. His childish excitement was gone. He knew this was up to business and he didn't want to disappoint his handler. Ted knew that there were certain things that she would do to protect him and there were things that she would do to hurt him. It was just a matter of how well he pleased her. "Come. Look. Touch." Kara beckoned him to the table.
"Kara. What is going on?" He finally asked after he'd touched all three of the animals. Kara smiled and answered his question. "This is for your first checkpoint. Complete this and it will make your life easier. You will enjoy my company more. Fail this and there will be no more pleasure received from me. Only pain." With that threat out of the way and seeping with truth in Teddy's mind he listened to what she had to say.
"You said that you didn't have any water animals. Well now you do. Your assignment is to infiltrate a base in Russia." As she talked a picture appeared on a wall to show the area that she was talking about. It looked like a satellite image that he was seeing. It's surprisingly well focused for being so high up. Teddy thought as Kara continued talking. "You will be required to infiltrate the building. Wearing a GPS you will transmit a signal to us mapping out the base for us. We will be watching you very closely; and I will be very close to you the entire time. The reason we have provided you with these shapes is that you will be required to swim to and from the drop off point...Here..." The map zoomed in to what looked like a giant body of water. "The Baltic Sea...Because of the nature of where you will be going we will not be allowed to get you any closer. You will have to swim from there all the way in to St. Petersburg. From there you will have to use one of your land animals to get your across the land and into the city without being noticed. Questions?"
Teddy looked at her. It was a lot to take in. His training seemed to be nearly over. Or so he thought. He'd spent only God knows how long beaten, bruised, and learning languages pass through these tests that they were now giving him. Finally he asked his question, "How will you keep a GPS on me? i don't know if it will stay on when I change shapes let alone while I'm swimming. And another thing...Am I meeting someone when I get on land or will I have to figure it all out on my own?" His questions all seemed valid and he waited for an answer. "You wont be alone. I will be waiting for you at the waters edge, and from there we will continue to give you more information on your objective." Now Teddy seemed to be thinking the way they wanted him to think. She seemed pleased. But seeming pleased was only a cover. There was really no telling what was going on in her head or what she was actually planning on doing to him. "Tomorrow we will start your training with the new shapes." Kara dismissed Teddy and he went back to his room to spend the rest of the day studying his objective and his languages.
These lessons went on for what seemed like months. It shifted from self defense and fighting to spying and intelligence gathering to language learning and blending in even when not in shifted form. Finally it was time for Ted to how them how well and how exactly his powers worked. He showed them the basic shapes that he had. Some they weren't that impressed with, like the rabbit. Others they were really excited about, like the lion and dragon. Some they were uninspired by.
Teddy wanted to impress them but he couldn't do anything about the shortage of shapes they were looking for; especially since he didn't know what they were looking for. "Teddy. Why do you have only these weak animals? Shouldn't you have something better? More...powerful." Kara asked him. Teddy shrugged. It was a habit she didn't like and she smacked him on the back of the head for it.
"I don't know. It's not like they weigh the same as the real animal anyways. My shapes don't even have teeth." Teddy told her. As far as he knew there was nothing he could do about that. They were still going to be using him even if he wasn't as deadly as they perhaps hoped. Kara thought for a moment. This information wasn't knew, since they had an entire complete folder on him, but he was sure they weren't happy about this fact.
There were several different people in the room that he didn't know. They never spoke they just sat there looking at him and listening to this conversation. Like he was in an interview or something. Kara turned to them and they whispered to her but Teddy couldn't make out what they were saying. Finally when Kara turned back around she asked, "Why don't you have any animals that can fly or swim? It seems that you only acquired land animals. Why?" It was Ted's turn to speak and he decided to answer as best he could.
"Well, I'm not to sure. I can't fly so there's no reason to get one that can fly, and as for the water I never thought about it I guess." Ted admitted. Even though the dragon had wings he still couldn't manage to make it fly. There seemed like there was something that was blocking him from getting to actually doing that feat.
