The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena smiled very broadly. He was just, adorable. It was infectious. She reflected back and realised she'd sort of done the same thing, quite a few times actually. "She is quite excellent." Serena admitted warmly. She valued Becca's opinion like few other people, she would love the opportunity to teach beside her. Serena should really rope Rebecca into reading some of her manuscripts for feedback.
Serena glanced back as she led Xavier to the danger room and simply smiled. "It's only as dangerous as the person operating it allows it to be, don't worry. We will be reasonably safe." She doubted Xavier was too afraid of danger, given that head already said he'd been partaking in some heroics.
"It's... Well, it's very complex. It can project and create objects, scenarios, buildings even. If you've ever seen Star Trek, think holodeck." She realised immediately after she said it that 'holodeck' might not mean anything to somebody of Xavier's age group, She was glad she was leading the way, and her blushing face was free from view for the couple of moments it took to return to normal.
As the adrenaline ebbed Serena's brain caught up with what Juniper had just said and felt her cheeks flushing in blush. "I-wha-" Juniper moved on with the topic, and Serena tried to keep up "Kisses?" her voice was a little more shrill than it had been earlier, a couple of notes higher.
Serena shrugged mechanically, vaguely aware of the ache the movement caused. "I suppose that depends on who is doing the training, Sam's might involve more explosions, mine generally speaking, do not." She smiled slightly timidly. "I either do real world scenarios or vampires, generally." she admitted. Either bloodless, or lots of blood.
Okay, she was definitely flirting. Something about Juniper... "Y-" The Brit cleared her throat. "You said you were a student? You seem a bit more..." Flirty? Cute? Attractive? What was the word... "Mature." She admitted, moving the remaining blood back into containers, cleaning any that had seeped into her clothes at the same time and closing the containers.
After a couple of minutes relaxing in the hot tub, Serena finished her drink and slipped back out, wandering around the room and smiling, shaking hands again while trying not to engage in too much more social activity. She wondered how long she should stick around, what would look right? Spotting a few faces she recognised here or there from around the mansion, Rebecca was conversing with someone she didn't recognise, she was pretty sure she spotted a de-aged Amelia chatting to a pair she didn't know either.
Giving that situation as wide a berth as possible, Serena made her way back to the bar and ordered another gin and tonic, it seemed an appropriate drink for this sort of party. The bartender was a nice enough guy, good looking if that was what you were into and Serena also noted he didn't seem overly zealous with the ID checking, maybe pretty faces were his thing. Alas, male bartenders were not hers.
She turned around and started making her way back over to the hot tubs, chatting with people she recognised from haven here and there. She was enjoying herself quite a lot, thinking about what a positive event this was. It was the right kind of positive mutant awareness, there were definitely good intentions, good people behind this.
There was a kind of giddiness in the air, an elated feeling seeping into the crowd. There were drinks, this made sense. After a minute or so of trying to politely excuse herself from a flirtatious gentlemen Serena more abruptly countered "Sorry, excuse me." And turned to move away more quickly than she normally would have. Some people just couldn't take a hint.
She very nearly barrelled straight into a woman she didn't recognise but caught herself. There were of course, wet patches on the floor from the hot tubs, but Serena had pretty good reflexes and had trained regularly with a man that liked to cover the floor in ice. She caught herself and realigned her balance, just barely not knocking her drink out of her hand, or the new woman's hands. Her cheeks flushed a little in embarrassment.
"Oh goodness, I'm so sorry, that was nearly messy." She apologised sincerely while she tried not to think too hard about how nice the woman's eyes were.
Even if it wasn't all over social media, and Serena wasn't aware of the party from other mansion residents buzzing about it and attending, her editor bugged the ever living crap out of her to make an appearance, donate some money and smile at people. Serena had practice with these social and charity mixers, a lot of it in fact from the last couple of years as a result of the activism she'd taken part in.
Hot tubs and bikinis she'd not done. There had been a few fancy dress ones, some Halloween events and other strange themes. Bikinis though were not something she'd had to wear for any of them. Serena didn't own... Well, she didn't generally like to show that much skin. It wasn't like there was anything wrong with them, and she definitely appreciated gorgeous woman in them. They just made her a little uncomfortable on occasion.
An excuse to go shopping as always nice, she definitely didn't do it for herself often enough. After a long afternoon of trying on various swimsuits and lamenting showing her midriff, Serena settled on a slightly more modest one piece.
So here she was, wandering around party with people that she was sure were not all of age, smiling and shaking hands for what seemed like hours until she decided it was enough, dropped off a donation and got herself a glass of gin and quietly slipped into a hot tub, glancing around at some familiar and new faces, wondering idly how many people in the room were de-aged, and how many were just here for a party, or to actually donate.
Butterflies rolled around Serena again and her grin became a little wider, she reached out and started gently twirling a finger through her girlfriend's hair, somewhat meekly. She slowly nestled herself in closer to lean her head down past Ami's face and against her shoulder, just enjoying the closeness of contact. She sometimes still couldn't get over the fact that she was in a stable relationship, it was kind of crazy.
Serena looked up, flashing Ami a playful smirk before giving her a squeeze. "Food is good. Do we have to put pants back on?" She playfully pouted "It was so much work to get you to take them off~"
She pondered the question. "We could order in, I suppose that depends on how you feel. Cooking with you was fun, I've never done chicken parm before. I generally make Carbonara or other fresh pasta dishes if I'm making Italian." she admitted.
Serena caught the little mutter and felt another grin spread. Well the plan was working, so that was good. A plan to distract your grumpy girlfriend was always good, especially when it was moving towards a mutually beneficial outcome. The little hand squeeze did send a flutter through Serena's stomach, as Amelia often tended to. Butterflies never really died around her girlfriend. "Oh really?"
Serena burst into giggles at the reply, and maintained the giggle the whole way down to the bed, and through most of what followed...
Serena blinked at glanced over at her girlfriend, she was still practically coiled around her. She was absolutely breathless.
Serena gave a slightly exhausted chuckle before leaning in for the millionth kiss of the night, just as intense and passionate as every one before it. "I love you."
Serena as it turned out, didn't totally have it, she felt the sharp twing of several small cuts on her cheek and shoulder, after a few moments she looked down her cheek didn't feel cold, a little hot, and the shoulder cuts definitely weren't too deep. They would likely heal up absolutely fine. She gently lowered the blood shield to the ground and frantically scanned the room to verify that there were no more threats, and then before thoroughly checking herself over she turned around and began to check over the woman that had been clinging to her waist a few moments before.
"You're not hurt at all?" After double checking, adrenaline still pumping through her body Serena's lips spread into a grin. "I'm sorry, is there something wrong with abs?" Serena liked abs, she liked girls with abs. She liked squishier girls too. Serena just liked pretty ladies.
"So I am." She shrugged. "It's fine, they're not deep. I'll heal." She tilted her head. "Sorry. That was intense, not supposed to happen at all. Are you sure you're okay?"
Serena couldn't really get her head around that concept. "I don't quite understand, why would they not take you seriously? You've been so professional!" The thought did cross Serena's mind that it was possibly because Spencer was an attractive woman, and some people took issue with that. Stupid people, obviously. Maybe the thought crossed Serena's mind more than once.
The laugh was just. It wasn't like she was making fun of Serena, or being crass or anything, it seemed sort of merited in the situation, Serena was behaving like a total airhead. It actually cut through her nerves a little. That, and was a nice laugh. People smiling and laughing was just one of the things Serena enjoyed, and while she couldn't really get a solid read on Spencer on account of feeling a bit lopsided, she did get the impression that Spencer probably knew how to enjoy herself.
"I-er-" She took a breath. "Sure. Walk sounds good, lunch sounds.." She forced a smile and tried to calm down the little flutter of awkwardness. Why were pretty woman so pretty? "Lunch sounds good." She stood from the chair and found herself supressing a giggle. How did this go from an interview to a lunch date? Was this a date, or was she reading too much into things?
Serena was not fooled by an innocent smile, not for a second. She could practically feel the tension she'd built up in Ami, coiled up like a spring. Funny, she'd never thought of herself as good at stuff like this, or even remotely being an effective tease. The things a loving long term relationship could teach you about yourself were kind of fun.
Serena's followup was quieted by the extra kiss, she couldn't help but giggle into Amelia's lips, being around such a caring partner really made her feel this giddy rush from her head to toes, so often. Smiling as Ami started to tug her towards the bedroom Serena burst out into more giggles.
"I thought distraction was what I was doing already? Aren't you hungry?" there was an edge to the last word, just a little more tease before she decided Amelia had received quite enough.
Serena was glad that Amelia was in her apartment often enough that a dishevelled bed here and there didn't bother her, not that she figured Ami was particularly focused on the contents of the room so much. "Officer Mellitus, are you trying to have dessert before your dinner?" She teased with a wide grin on her face, eyebrows raised and giggles barely contained.
Breading and working quietly, occasionally flicking a grin at her girlfriend Serena diligently followed instructions, feigning the part of kitchen amateur extremely well. Serena may not have had family that owned restaurants or anything, but she had been cooking for herself and family since her young teen years, so she'd picked up a few things here and there.
Serena snorted out another giggle "I'm not sure if that's attractive or just terrible humour." Serena listened intently to the explanation. Just because she did know how to cook didn't mean she couldn't learn a thing or two, which she probably did. "Are your explanations about teaching me, or distracting yourself and me from the teasing that's been driving you mental over there?" She chirped with another smirk.
Serena washed and cleaned her own hands and barely had time to react as she turned when her girlfriend pounced her. She tumbled backwards against a cupboard gently, giggling the whole way until she was silenced by a smooch, running a few fingers through Amelia's brunette locks. "Oh how sweet~" She was pretty confident she'd taken Ami's mind off of things now.
Serena really felt like she'd done more blushing hanging around Cait than she had done for the entirety of the last year. This time it was nothing remotely sexual, or awkward. It was genuine fluster, she'd not expected that reply. "Oh. Well thank you." She replied sheepishly. Ah, of course. Alice. "Yes, far as I could tell she was mostly the same." Serena shuddered visibly, remembering the vampire thing. It hadn't been like, a sterotype out of a movie or anything, but she definitely had nightmares about her doing the same sort of thing. Creepy.
The previous night's injection of confidence still fairly fresh in her, a slight teasing grin crept at her lips. "Cait, you are most definitely not a guy. I can verify." Her cheeks were still a little flush, but her face was much more playful than outright embarrassed. "Well I suppose you could say that it's similar, but his is much more pronounced?" Serena stared for a moment at Cait's facial features before adding "Funny I didn't put it together sooner, I guess I was distracted by attraction. I do so love Scottish accents."
Serena gently led her into the kitchen and pulled out a stool for Cait while she pulled out some pans and acquired some eggs, popping some bread into the toaster. "So his name is Artair, and well. He's not evil or anything as I said. A little grumpy but a good person." She paused for a moment, staring at the butter melting in the pan, trying to think of the right words. "He's a doctor, well training to become one at least." She turned around and flashed Cait another smile.
Serena giggled again, near Amelia's ears and said in a low tone once again. "You know it's really cute how your humour degrades further when you're flustered. The cutest reflex." She teased before relenting and letting Ami breath a little. She was fairly sure she'd gotten her mind off of her girlfriend's long day by this point, and was content to get on with this cooking thing now that the gorgeous brunette had been properly distracted and riled up, and couldn't stew on things.
Serena just looked up from her utensil drawing position and raised an amused eyebrow at Amelia before suppressing another giggle. "Yes Ma'am" Serena replied, biting her lower lip a little and giving a mock salute before moving to follow Amelia's instructions. American's using the imperial system instead of metric... a topic for another time.
It was an interesting experiment, cooking while pretending to be indept. Required quite a bit of concentration. Luckily, Serena was a talented multi-tasker. She could keep up a ruse and tease her girlfriend at the same time. Beating eggs was easy, she didn't fumble it. Besides, she kind of wanted this too taste good. "Are you enjoying ordering me around my dear?" She asked with a playful smirk.
Cait's power had definitely confirmed some suspicions. Serena didn't think it was particularly odd that she found it pretty, glowing colourful and intricate, what wasn't to like? She had no issue with it being in the shape of a weapon, she was pretty confident Cait wasn't the type to injure people. The stray thoughts did bring up an amusing memory of Artair making a tower shield to hit something with, instead of say... A club, or a sword or anything else useful.
She tilted her head in amusement before replying. "Sweetie my power is telekinetic control of blood, trust me I don't mind powers that can be dangerous. It's pretty, like it's owner." Serena could flirt. Kind of. Badly.
Serena sighed. "Well, I ask because I think I might know who your equivalent on this side is." How long had it been since she'd seen Art? She actually couldn't remember. Damned vanishing off the earth. "Er... He's a guy, and don't worry he's not like an evil twin or anything."
Serena chuckled and turned around, now mostly dressed. Okay, maybe she was feeling a bit more adventurous than usual and wasn't technically fully dressed. But hey, they were in her apartment and she was feeling unusually confident. "Actually I feel a little dense for not putting something together sooner, your accent is much less pronounced, but the hints of it are there unless I'm mistaken." She admitted with a slightly timid smirk.
Serena held out a hand to Cait to help her up from the bed. "Comeon, we can talk more over some breakfast."
Serena tried hard not to get distracted, and to keep avoiding the remaining two robots. But it was hard, Juniper was honestly just impressive. Serena couldn't imagine she'd been in many fights, especially ones that looked anything remotely like this, and yet she was handling herself remarkably well.
"I-uh" She ducked a swing and flung an orb of blood at an arm, to little effect. Piercing really was the way to go with this program apparently. "Mostly vampires, hoards of vampires. You know-" She strained while moving and talking and fighting. "All the blood, certainly seemed appropriate"
Serena dimly registered the question as she flung a spike straight through one's head, watching it collapse down into a heap on the ground. Interesting question. "I suppose you could, I've never thought of that though." She rolled away from another blow and backed up as Juniper interacted with the one on the ground.
Eyes widening she took a few steps back and noted Juniper hiding behind her. Serena quickly gathered all of the blood she had left in front of her, and hardened it into a shield, giving it a little flexibility. She hoped it would stop the shrapnel.
"It's okay, I've got it!" She made it just wide enough to cover her body and pushed it a couple of feet in front of her, making sure to bodily cover Juniper.
That sounded like a whole ordeal, Serena had thought about that situation quite a bit since her disastrous encounter with Ami. She couldn't imagine how people dealt with the whole shattered memories situation. She'd been busy enough in her own way that she'd not done anything... like that, for quite some time. She had also been getting over her own relationship problems, in fairness. "I'm glad that's over and done with, glad also that I could be the one to provide you with some... Relief." She added sheepishly.
Serena averted her eyes once more with burning cheeks, leaning against Cait gently. "I don't think I have seen enough of you, no." She admitted quietly.
Serena couldn't be right about this. Surely not. She paid close attention to when Cait used her mutation and blinked slowly. There were... definitely similarities, it was down right the same mutation in fact. She even manipulated her arm in the same way... almost. Artair was very raw when he used his power, Cait had an elegance about her that Serena had come to expect, which was also conveyed in her power.
"That is... strangely beautiful." She admitted, her eyes straying up to meet Cait's once again before she glanced away again, still gently holding the sheets for a few moments before she spoke again. "I don't suppose you have any siblings, do you Cait?" She asked before giving up on the hope of sneaking getting dressed while Cait was here, she had seen Serena naked already after all.
She stood and dropped the sheets, blushing fiercely while she gathered some clothes and got dressed into some casual clothes, trying not to think about the potential of a woman she'd just met staring at her too hard.
