Character
Personality: In the years since manifesting her power, Serena has become much stronger and more forthcoming as a person. She's always been sociable, however now she strives to interact with new people as often as she can, and she often messages friends to keep up with what's going on in their daily lives and also tries to stay up to date with current events.
She can be described as fairly feminine, however she's extremely non-judgemental when it comes to the lifestyle choices of others, she is of the opinion that people are their most alluring, and attractive when people behave like themselves, instead of putting on a show for anybody.
Serena is perfectly comfortable in herself, her sexuality and her power now, and she does her best to encourage others to do the same. She comes across as relatively energetic and open, welcoming all kinds of people into her life.
She's of an above average intelligence, and is of quick wit. Though she tries her best to avoid being snarky around others it does occasionally sneak through, especially when she's talking to anybody she perceives as being ignorant, or anti-mutant.
Hobbies/ Interests: Serena enjoys different things, she is very into biology, she loves swimming and reading. A couple of years back a friend even introduced her to video games, only for her to find that she is actually pretty good at them.
Serena has also adopted regular exercise recently, both for her physical well being, and to help with her mutation and her overall control. She also takes Aikido classes once a week. Job or part time job and description: University/Professional writing. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Ophidiophobia (Snakes) Special talents: Serena is very good at thinking on her feet, quick solutions to sticky situations, and is also particularly good at video games and a quick reader, and is an excellent fiction writer.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: She is good, as she tends to be a kind and caring person and always wants to help her friends as much as she can. She is also always friendly to people who are frightened, and will try her best to help out any person she thinks she can. Mutations
Mutation description: Serena's gift is known as Haemokinesis, or blood manipulation. She can use this in a variety of different ways: -She can shape it and levitate it. -She can control it's density, for example, she could form it into a shaft and harden it so that would be usable as a weapon. -If she is pulling from an open wound on her body, she can only pull from the surface, but due to cohesion tension on the wound, more blood would be pulled from inside her body, even though she can't directly affect blood below the surface of the skin. (This only works on her really, as she is more used to the structure of her own blood than anyone else) -When activated Serena's mutation makes her body give off a blue light, like an aura or blue outline that surrounds her body, it also surrounds the blood that she is manipulating, this glow is faint, so you can tell that it is projecting from her and that it is her actually manipulating the blood, but she couldn't for example, blind anyone with it.
Also, her blood has the special property of faster replenishment, this is because when her body is running low on red or white blood cells, her brain sends a message to increase the speed of cell division, meaning more are doing it at the same time. This means: -It is ever so slightly harder for her to bleed out. -It is much easier for her body to recover from blood-loss. -Her blood can recover 2-3 times faster than an average person.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Serena's gift has many draw backs. -Firstly, it is very hard to control, it functions on all of her emotions, including those of her sub-conscious mind, this makes it very hard to control as she isn't even aware of how it works. -If Serena loses control, it's power becomes more potent, this means that the force and speed with which she can telekinetically control it increases, this has the large downside of as she can't control it, she could hurt someone, this is a massive downside, as she doesn't like hurting people and blood spears can easily hurt anyone, including her teammates... -If she is fighting with an averagely sized open wound for 20 or more minutes, she is going to pass out if she doesn't deal with it. (Varies on the size of the wound)
-Serena can manipulate about a gallon of blood at a time (Although if she takes more than 4 pints of her own blood, she will likely pass out) -It is possible for her to manipulate more than a Gallon, however, she cannot do this safely, it will both push her time limit (2 gallons would be 5-10 minutes) and the backlash would be more severe.
-Her range is 10 meters or 32 feet. -If Serena is using her power for more than 20 minutes, she can damage her internal organs slightly, causing her to cough blood and feel weak. (If she tries to carry on using her mutation after hitting this limit, her condition will carry on to get progressively worse)
-She can use her power 2-3 times a day before the strain on her body becomes too much.
Power Growth (16/12/13)
Growth description:
Blood form-Serena's powers will dig deeper into her genes to unlock further aspects, and side effects of her mutation. This will allow her to transform her whole body into blood. The transformation would take about 20 seconds, and would only occur after her mutation was already activated and she becomes incredibly emotional, it would be shown by her blue field slowly becoming red, and then sweeping across her body transforming it into pure blood.
In appearance, she would seem to look similar to her usual appearance, however without sharp facial features, and her hair would be flowing behind her, her voice would come out as an echo.
As a side effect of the growth digging deeper into her powers, she has become a much more emotional person, experiencing emotions more strongly, and while in her elemental form this effect is even more potent to the point where she is pretty much governed by her emotions.
Strengths:
-Serena's body being composed of her telekinetic medium has obvious advantages, for example, she can lift herself through the air with it, not fly, but float.
-As it is liquid being held together by her powers, it is very malleable, and therefore it is difficult to harm her by conventional means, a bullet would pass through her for example while the form is active.
-The form has a distinct advantage in that she can handle more blood than she normally could, due to not having the usual physical limitations of her body, this is about 2 gallons (Note, nearly a gallon is taken up by her body)
Weaknesses and limitations:
-The first obvious limitation is the passive effect the growth has on Serena's emotions, making it harder for her to maintain self control, and manage her normal mutation due to having more trouble keeping calm.
-Her higher emotional sensitivity, especially when in elemental form, makes her EXTREMELY vulnerable to empaths.
-Even though she can stand small displacements of her body without much trouble, if she was say, squished, or had her body separated in two suddenly, she would feel a massive surge of pain, and if severe enough, it could force her back into her normal state.
-Passing a large surge of electricity through her in this form would revert her, most likely burn her depending on voltage.
-Mixing her with a another large body of liquid, particularly water, will cause her an extremely painful reversion back to her standard form and may cause her to pass out.
-She can only maintain the form for about 10 minutes at a time. (Less if she's fighting while maintaining it, about 5 minutes if she fights the whole time)
-After reverting, she will feel a little numb, and then her skin will be extremely sensitive for a time, and she will feel slightly more emotional for a time.
-The form is VERY stamina draining, more so than her usual mutation.
-If Serena is exposed to extreme heat or cold in the form, she will begin to feel incredibly uncomfortable. If this continues for a couple of minutes, she will be forced to revert.
-Although her body becomes malleable when in the form, she cannot apply her mutation's density control to it, for example she could not harden part of her body into a blood lance to stab someone with, it would remain a liquid.
Power Growth (3/28/2017)
Growth description: Healing blood - Serena’s blood when ingested or transfused directly into the blood stream (Much like regular painkillers and other treatments) would begin to restore the recipients body, to the state that the donated blood cells were in when they were first produced. This mainly focuses on stopping bleeding, healing wounds and restoring internal systems like organs. But if extended treatment was given, it could potentially be used to cure long running illnesses like types of particular organ dysfunctions.
The potency of the healing depends on several factors. Firstly, the state of Serena’s body when donating, and secondly whether the blood is ingested or transfused. Much like traditional medicines like morphine, Codeine and paracetamol it will have a more powerful and rapid effect if it is taken in directly to the blood stream. However, she can let a target ingest it directly, and while this isn’t preferable and wouldn’t taste particularly pleasant, if someone is grievously injured in a pinch it would likely save their lives.
The length of time to heal varies on the level of injury, for example if someone only had a bunch of minor cuts and scrapes they would heal from a transfusion in a matter of minutes, but if they had multiple deep lacerations it would take longer. The length of time for healing is about doubled if the blood is ingested, not transfused.Usually around a full pint donation would be enough to heal most injuries, more severe injuries like a damaged or missing organ would either take a much much larger transfusion, or would require regular transfusions until they were fully restored. Small and minor wounds like cuts and bruises would heal at the normal speed from just a few 100 milliliters.
Lastly, If somebody’s own body was in a good state, Serena’s blood would have very little effect. And she obviously couldn’t significantly alter a person’s outward characteristics through donations, only restore things that are missing, like organ or tissue damage. In theory, extended donations could restore a lost kidney, but could not for example change a Male’s characteristics to female.
Strengths: -Serena can obviously save somebody who is in critical condition’s life, simply by donating some blood to them.
-Over a long period of time and regular donations, she could potentially help someone with more deep routed health issues, like helping the body deal with cancer cells, diseases and others.
-She could potentially cure life threatening illness in someone via multiple transfusions. -Healing a painful wound obviously has the benefit of her being able to relieve some pain. Weaknesses:
-Firstly and most obviously, Serena can’t use any blood. She actually has to donate her own blood which humans are heavily limited in. She can’t donate more than a couple pints a week, even with her accelerated recovery from blood loss.
-Regular donations would cause some deficiencies in Serena, and she’d likely have to make sure she was topped up on Iron and other vitamins to keep her blood production smooth. -She can’t heal someone beyond the state she’s in when donating. So if she was incredibly sick, donating would actually be bad idea as it might worsen the situation.
-Obviously she also has a tendency to use her own blood when using her mutation when in a pinch, which further limits her supply to donate, and vice versa.
-The donation can also have side effects on the target, similar to the way that more potent treatments tend to. For example the rapid healing can have the effect of making patients feel light headed, giddy and other similar side effects that would result of treatments comparable in strength to morphine. These are more potent if the blood is transfused, than ingested.
-The power has no effect on Serena herself, only blood that she’s donated to others.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Slightly above average speed and stamina for a girl of her age, due to regular fitness upkeep, she's also got excellent reflexes and flexibility. Fighting Style: Serena has training in Aikido, and basic self defense. She also is very skilled at manipulating her mutation.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Serena doesn't fight very often, so she's not massively experienced with actual combat. But her style is very defensive and varied, due to the nature of Aikido. And if need be, she can maintain a distance from dangerous individuals and use her mutation.
History Of Your Character:Serena was born to Elizabeth Rivers and Michael Worthmore. In Buckinghamshire, just outside of London. Her Mother was part of a wealthy, traditional English family, and her father was a local police officer. Her grandparents looked down upon this, especially considering that Serena was the second child to be born of the two, after her older brother Jake.
While she was still too young to really remember, Serena's mother passed away from illness, her father took custody of her away from her grandparents. Her childhood was relatively normal, her older brother lived with the two of them until he was 16, at which point he moved away and went to college in an other city, before going to university in the US. He still visited as much as possible, as the two of them were very close though.
Around the time she was 14, Serena and her dad moved her to New York city, were her older brother was working after having finished university. The two of them worked within the NYC police force, sadly a few months later her father died in an accident, leaving custody of the teenage Serena to her older brother.
She receded for a time, becoming more recluse and quiet, still keeping up excellent grades and such in school. Her brother did his best to spend all of his free time with her and eventually she broke through the depression she'd fallen into, and began to heal from losing her father. She became more socially active, and friendly.
Sadly, the happiness of living with her older brother would only last a few years longer, as she began experiencing the side effects of her mutation activating. Furthermore, a week or so before her 17th Birthday, her older brother was murdered, the same night she found out, Serena's mutation activated.
Luckily for the blonde, she encountered another mutant named Tses, who helped her to the Mansion, a safe haven for mutants where they could continue schooling and learn to adapt to and control their powers. She unlike last time, didn't show depression in any obvious way, she remained extremely sociable and did her best to keep busy. Her issues began manifesting initially as recurring nightmares, and control problems over her power.
She spent the next couple of years living out of the mansion, attending classes and slowly training herself both physically and in the use of her power. She achieved very high grades and began studying Biology and Psychology at New York University, still living out of the mansion for a time, dealing with her power's growth and still striving for better control.
By the age of 19, she managed to get a novel published through a university writing program that she had applied for, and more recently it has gained some actual popularity and started selling in reasonable volumes for a new Author, she has been offered a multiple-book deal and has taken up writing as a part time-career whilst continuing her studies at NYU. This has also allowed her to move out into an apartment, though she still visits the mansion frequently, she's also been wary of growing unrest between mutant and anti-mutant groups recently.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: I learnt of this site through Shin and Juli both mentioning it on another RP site which they both frequent with me. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No. Sample RP: It was a dark night, Serena hated the dark. It always didn't feel right, that and her father had been stabbed in the dark when he was working undercover. Not a fun memory. What mattered however, was that the dark creeped Serena out a little.
While she was walking through the dimly lit, dreary gloomy street she wondered to herself what her brother was doing right now, probably at work still. However than something which Serena had not been expecting at all... Her brother, Jake, was standing there on the side of the street, by an alley. There was a man with him which she didn't recognise however... he was a tall, dark man wearing what appeared to be a lab coat. "Jake!" Serena shouted as she waved to him.
He wandered down the alley with the man in the lab coat. Baffled by her older brothers completely out of character, rudeness towards her, she ran towards the alley to see if he was okay. "Oh lords I hope he isn't drunk." Serena muttered to herself as she walked towards the alley.
When she arrived however she couldn't see her brother as the alley was incredibly dark. Suddenly. She felt something very cold and metallic press up against the back of her head. Then heard manic laughter. A switch was flicked, some light appeared in the alley, she looked over to see Jake in the corner looking very annoyed. "You weren't supposed to follow me you dummy." he said in a nervous tone. the strain was clear in his voice, he didn't want her to be here, something bad was about to happen.
"Hmm, she looks a bit like you detective boy, is she your sister?" the man behind her said as he shoved her into her brother.
She turned and saw a man standing in a lab coat wearing glasses, holding a 38. Special pointed in her direction. She realised what was going on. Her brother had cracked the case. He had found the murderer, but the murderer got him cornered literally. Serena wanted to scream, but she couldn't find her voice.
Her brother stepped in front of her and threw his arms over her. She suddenly felt safe. Even in this situation he looked after her, he really was the best big brother a sister could ask for. "Leave her alone, If you must kill someone, kill me just please, let my baby sister go" Jake said, putting all of his emotion into his voice.
Serena wanted to protest, if her brother was going to be killed, she would go with him. She was cut off, by the killer. "Not a chance, tell you what I will traumatise the little thing, let her scream then kill her, after you" He laughed manically, them suddenly stopped. He pulled the trigger.
Jake didn't have time to think, he had thrown him self over Serena, several rounds hit him. He fell. But not before showering Serena in a spray of blood.
She fell to her knees and began to tremble. She wanted to cry. No tears came. She wanted to scream, her voice was not there. She lay, on her knees hands clutching the shredded, now dyed red shirt. The shooter beamed over her, almost seemingly fascinated with her and how she was so in shock she couldn't even cry for her big brother.
He then spoke. "Little blond creature, no tears for your pathetic brother?" He asked with a smirk, then added "No, then die." he pulled the trigger and heard a click. "Hmm no ammo left. Ah well" He tossed the handgun aside. "I will do it the old fashioned way then." he uttered. Then drew a knife, the blade stained with blood.
Serena heard his words did he just call Jake pathetic? "You'll pay." She said with a deadly calm voice,as she stood tears ran down her face, Pure vengeance sounding in her normally sweet voice. She stood up.
Then something astonishing happened. The blood on her clothes and on her brothers, became tinted with a blue aura, then it began to float off of the clothing and suspended itself in the air, in various sizes of drops. "You'll PAY!" She screamed. As the roar left her mouth the blood suspended in the air solidified and flew with incredible speed into the man. He was torn to shreds. Not a trace left of him except for a stain in the alley.
Suddenly the weight of what just happened hit her. The suspended blood all hit the floor. Her brother had died, she had just killed a man and she was... she was... A mutant. Serena realised that her brother would want her to pick herself up and leave. She closed his eyes, walked to the exit to the alley, turned. Gave her brother one last glance and then set off into the night. She was a mutant, a danger to society as radicals would put it."They're right, I am a danger to others". But was is her life now, this was being a mutant.
