The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Coming awake with a start she panicked a little at the unfamiliar surroundings. Sure, she'd been used to waking up a little hungover in a strange bed but a couple of years not knowing who she was threw her off her game a little but she quickly calmed down when she realised where she was.
OK not so much where she was exactly, just the vague idea of being somewhere in New York, in Serena's apartment. With no clothes on.
So there was that too.
Slowly sitting up she glanced down at her new friend who was still asleep. Good to know that part of the night hadn't been a drunken dream because she didn't trust her imagination at the moment and conjuring up something like that was right up it's alley. But no, the woman was very definitely real. Very fetching too in the daylight, which now that Cait could see her in the proper light she looked so much like Alice it was freaky. Like yeah they were copies or twins or whatever but it was really hard not to see her version lying there, not to believe she was back home.
Not that she was complaining. At all. Ever.
Sliding out of the bed quietly, she pulled on her underwear and her shirt and was about to hunt for something cold and preferably non alcoholic to drink when she heard stirring from the bed.
Glancing over and giving Serena a smile, "Sorry, didn't mean to wake you sweetie. I was just hunting for some water."
Serena's evening had been a bit of a whirlwind, ending in a very... handsy trip back to her apartment, and the most interesting exciting night she'd maybe ever had. It wasn't the sort of thing she typically did, in fact it was the first time she'd had casual sex, ever.
It was incredible, and it was exhausting, ending in her snuggling up to Cait, exhausted at the end of the evening and both of them passing out for the night.
She slept very a very sound, dreamless sleep. Exhausted and relaxed at the same time. Stirring a little when Cait got up she only fully came to consciousness when Cait was standing over the bed in... very few clothes. Serena yawned and slowly sat up "G'morni-" She glanced down and quickly tugged the sheets back up as she realised she was still totally nude.
Why was she blushing? She'd just slept with the woman for goodness sake!
"Er- Water. Kitchen, there are glasses in one of the clear cabinets, tap water is fine to drink, it's filtered." She sheepishly drew the covers up.
So Cait knew Serena was a bit of a blusher. Well by bit see prone to it at the drop of a hat but she wasn't expecting it after the fact to be honest. Grinning at her and laughing lightly, "Seriously? After what we did last night you're skittish about me seeing you naked?" She was just too much fun to tease.
It was absolutely adorable to watch her get flustered though.
Nodding she began, "Good to know, I''ll be just a couple of seconds." Following the words she quickly located a couple of glasses and filled them, only pausing to down one herself first before refilling it then bringing them both back through to the bedroom. "Nice place by the way," she commented lightly, offering one of the drinks to Serena, "much easier to appreciate it in the day light."
And sober. And not otherwise occupied.
Sitting cross legged on the bed she considered the blonde. In real light and not distracted by the many ideas she'd had when seeing Alice/Serena in that bar she did have to admit that while they were twins, there were some little differences. Real hard to see in the dark and unnoticeable when asleep but they were there. Like the way they held themselves, or the added depth Serena had to her expressions.
Well those, an the fact that Alice hadn't exactly been shy about being naked in front of and usually with Cait.
The teasing had been absolutely expected. Cait was quickly learning how too push Serena's buttons. And in fairness, they were pretty massive, obvious buttons. She was still blushing and trying not to incoherently murmur when Cait walked off. "Not every day you meet someone and then are in bed with them hours later." she muttered, once Cait was out of earshot.
Serena debated trying to dash and put on some clothes, but hesitated. Besides the fact that Cait was right about having seen her naked, it would take a moment, be obvious. And her bed was warm. She sighed and leaned back a little, tugging the sheets up gently so she was mostly covered and flicking the switch for her AC to warm the room up a little.
Cait walked back in, prompting a wide, sheepish smile from Serena. "Thank you!" She accepted the water and took a few sips. She didn't feel hung over, particularly, just a little tired. "You're beautiful. And I know I said it last night, several times. But I'm sober now, and I felt the need to clarify that I wasn't just tipsy. I do quite like you."
She didn't mention that casual sex wasn't something she normally did, Cait had probably worked that out by now.
Nodding at the thanks she took a nice slow drink of her own water. Didn't really alleviate the hangover, barely even registered on it frankly but what exactly was she expecting after going so hard with no partying in the last year and a half to aid the resilience. Still, she wasn't curled up around a toilet so it wasn't the worst she'd ever had.
Her grin was only mildly cat like at the flailing compliments Serena was giving her. It was like watching a kitten trying to stalk a very sneaky toy, two parts adorable and one part fascinating to see if they'd succeed. "That was pretty clear, especially since you don't exactly strike me as a lass who goes out with this objective in mind," she stated, vaguely gesturing at the two of them. "But thank you, you have no idea how much hearing that after so long means to me."
Well, who didn't like to feel wanted after all, but considering her losses and struggle to be herself again it was very heart warming being in that position again.
"And you sweetheart, are incredible. At so many things," she twitched her eyebrow suggestively, "not least how generous you are with your praise. You would be surprised how little a girl hears those kind of things when fighting crime." Mostly swearing. That what she heard. That, with a dash of misogyny and general idiocy from cocky men.
Serena nodded rapidly, still very red. “I don’t really know what I went out for to be honest with you, my friends just told me I should go out and have some fun… I suppose we accomplished that, didn’t we?” She asked a little more brazenly, a timid smirk slowly sprouting on her lips.
Serena’s smirk became a little more playful. “You should hear it more often. I have no problem reminding my friends that they’re gorgeous, keep hanging out with me and you will develop a fairly large ego.” Sometimes you just had to remind friends of things like that. Giving honest, earnest compliments was good for the soul. Especially if the other party enjoyed it, or particularly needed to hear them.
Last night was kind of a blur. A tornado of pleasure and giggling. Serena shuffled under the covers a little. Still distinctly aware that she was nude under them and Cait was partially dressed. It was awkward. Well, it was awkward for her. She seriously doubted that Cait cared very much one way or another.
Serena nodded. “I get that. It’s mostly trash talk. Some criminals can be so rude.” She distantly recalled several she’d encountered that were very… Mouthy.
Taking another cursory sip of water and setting it down on the nightstand Serena wrapped some of the sheet gently around herself and shifted on the bed so she was a little closer to Cait. She still couldn’t believe she’d just met someone that beautiful and ended up in bed with them not even hours later.
"I'd say so dear," she laughed, "although fun might be a wee bit of an understatement. I don't know if they expected you to pick up a girl but well, I am glad you did." Giving a cheeky grin, she only blushed slightly as some of the less hazy memories returned. Christ, had she really been that pent up?
Compliments, hugs and a pretty face? Was there any downside to hanging out with Serena? "Well then I'll have to hang around plenty if that's part of the deal, just expect some teasing Serena," giving her a smoking look, "or maybe something else." Cait was only half joking about having other activities in mind but Serena was fun. If casual sex was one the table, sweet. If not, well she she was also intelligent, thoughtful and likely to boost her self esteem so there really wasn't a down side.
Terribly rude in her experience. Somehow worse when they'd been beaten too which was extra annoying.
"I know right? Half the time I'm standing there with knives and freaking floating weapons and they still think it's smart to mouth off." Not like it actually got to her really but it still annoyed her a little. Was it too much to ask for a little professional courtesy from street thugs and criminals?
Serena nodded her head quickly several times in agreement. She was closer to Cait now, she leaned her head gently on the other woman's shoulder and giggled. "Fun is an understatement. It's been... A while." There was something to be said for cutting loose when you haven't in a long while, in much more sense than one, that was for sure.
Along with another blush she pecked Cait on the cheek softly. "I'm glad I did too. I think I needed that, you certainly seemed to need the... Er. Release." She couldn't think of a way to word that without innuendo, so much for being a word smith.
Serena was very glad to hear that Cait was eager to stick around, she was new to this whole dynamic, but she also wanted to explore it more. It was exciting. It got more exciting with the look Cait gave her. "I think I'd like that." She murmured quietly, cheeks burning.
Wait, floating weapons? That sounded so familiar... Serena couldn't place it. "Hey Cait, I've a slightly peculiar request for you, if that's okay." She paused before asking "Could you show me your mutation?"
My word, the girl was getting bold if she was giving out kisses without bursting into fire. "Yeah, it's certainly been a while, a dimension and some fractured memories since I've been able to cut loose." It was weird, Serena was easy to talk too. So much so she kept giving away information she probably should keep close to her chest.
Not like she'd let slip she was an X or anything.
"I'm glad to hear it sweetie," she replied warmly, "you're pretty great to hang out with, among other things, so thanks for wanting me to stick around."
Raising an eyebrow at the request, "What, haven't seen enough of me to satisfy you?" she teased. Thinking it over she couldn't exactly find a reason not show off, and frankly of any person on this side of things was going to see her power, she reckoned her new friend would be one of them.
Hold out her hand and forming the image in her head she pulled the dagger into place in a practiced thought. Setting it slowly spinning over her palm she gave Serena a look. "Pretty weird right. Almost looks like it's made of wires or something but it is pretty strong. Sharp too so be careful dear, no need to get blood over your nice sheets."
That sounded like a whole ordeal, Serena had thought about that situation quite a bit since her disastrous encounter with Ami. She couldn't imagine how people dealt with the whole shattered memories situation. She'd been busy enough in her own way that she'd not done anything... like that, for quite some time. She had also been getting over her own relationship problems, in fairness. "I'm glad that's over and done with, glad also that I could be the one to provide you with some... Relief." She added sheepishly.
Serena averted her eyes once more with burning cheeks, leaning against Cait gently. "I don't think I have seen enough of you, no." She admitted quietly.
Serena couldn't be right about this. Surely not. She paid close attention to when Cait used her mutation and blinked slowly. There were... definitely similarities, it was down right the same mutation in fact. She even manipulated her arm in the same way... almost. Artair was very raw when he used his power, Cait had an elegance about her that Serena had come to expect, which was also conveyed in her power.
"That is... strangely beautiful." She admitted, her eyes straying up to meet Cait's once again before she glanced away again, still gently holding the sheets for a few moments before she spoke again. "I don't suppose you have any siblings, do you Cait?" She asked before giving up on the hope of sneaking getting dressed while Cait was here, she had seen Serena naked already after all.
She stood and dropped the sheets, blushing fiercely while she gathered some clothes and got dressed into some casual clothes, trying not to think about the potential of a woman she'd just met staring at her too hard.
Smiling when she heard yet another adorable admission from
Beautiful? Now that was one thing she hadn't heard about her power. Freaky? Yes. Scary? Oh too many times but beautiful, no that was something new. "I suppose it can be, in a way. Pretty nasty in practice unfortunately, especially when you're not a fan of hurting people." Cait had always struggled to reconcile her reasons for being an X with how, well violent, her power really was.
Blinking at the sudden question, she narrowed her eyes at Serena. "That's.....a weird direction to go. And no, I'm an only child. I do have a few cousins back home in Scotland but other than that it's a pretty small family." All the shame really, she would have been an awesome big sister. Giving advice and protecting and of course all the hugs possible. "Why? I mean, I'm not upset or anything and I'm always happy to chat about family stuff with friends but that was a little out of no where dear?"
Did she know something? Had she met Cait double?
Nah, that was insane. Especially since Serena hadn't recognised her at all and was very clearly good at noticing pretty girls. No it was probably a coincidence or something. Also why was she thinking stupid things and nearly missing Serena leaving her cocoon.
Of course Cait watched her. Totally non creepily. Totally not with any thoughts or intentions cropping up.
Cait's power had definitely confirmed some suspicions. Serena didn't think it was particularly odd that she found it pretty, glowing colourful and intricate, what wasn't to like? She had no issue with it being in the shape of a weapon, she was pretty confident Cait wasn't the type to injure people. The stray thoughts did bring up an amusing memory of Artair making a tower shield to hit something with, instead of say... A club, or a sword or anything else useful.
She tilted her head in amusement before replying. "Sweetie my power is telekinetic control of blood, trust me I don't mind powers that can be dangerous. It's pretty, like it's owner." Serena could flirt. Kind of. Badly.
Serena sighed. "Well, I ask because I think I might know who your equivalent on this side is." How long had it been since she'd seen Art? She actually couldn't remember. Damned vanishing off the earth. "Er... He's a guy, and don't worry he's not like an evil twin or anything."
Serena chuckled and turned around, now mostly dressed. Okay, maybe she was feeling a bit more adventurous than usual and wasn't technically fully dressed. But hey, they were in her apartment and she was feeling unusually confident. "Actually I feel a little dense for not putting something together sooner, your accent is much less pronounced, but the hints of it are there unless I'm mistaken." She admitted with a slightly timid smirk.
Serena held out a hand to Cait to help her up from the bed. "Comeon, we can talk more over some breakfast."
"Wait, you can control blood and this is the first thing I'm hearing about it? That is so freaking awesome!" Could she like move it through the air and throw it around. Oh god could she mess with it in peoples bodies? That would be freaky. And amazing. Fremazing. Narrowing her eyes, "Could Alice do that too? Because I am learning more about her here than well, when I knew her."
What. The. F**k.
This was getting real weird. Cait knew Alice. Alice was evil Serena. Serena now knew Cait. And Serena knew....not so evil Cait. Who was a guy. "I'm.......a guy? And, erm, what do you mean accent? If he is me it should be the same. Or, well, deeper but still the same." Because that's the only logical thing for her....twin.
And logic always applied to trans-dimensional people copies.
Accepting the hand and pulling herself up, "Yeah, I uh, think I need some food because I can't deal with being a guy without something in my stomach. This is not a empty belly convo." Or really a post fun times, hungover conversation but apparently she didn't have a choice in the matter because stuff got real.
Serena really felt like she'd done more blushing hanging around Cait than she had done for the entirety of the last year. This time it was nothing remotely sexual, or awkward. It was genuine fluster, she'd not expected that reply. "Oh. Well thank you." She replied sheepishly. Ah, of course. Alice. "Yes, far as I could tell she was mostly the same." Serena shuddered visibly, remembering the vampire thing. It hadn't been like, a sterotype out of a movie or anything, but she definitely had nightmares about her doing the same sort of thing. Creepy.
The previous night's injection of confidence still fairly fresh in her, a slight teasing grin crept at her lips. "Cait, you are most definitely not a guy. I can verify." Her cheeks were still a little flush, but her face was much more playful than outright embarrassed. "Well I suppose you could say that it's similar, but his is much more pronounced?" Serena stared for a moment at Cait's facial features before adding "Funny I didn't put it together sooner, I guess I was distracted by attraction. I do so love Scottish accents."
Serena gently led her into the kitchen and pulled out a stool for Cait while she pulled out some pans and acquired some eggs, popping some bread into the toaster. "So his name is Artair, and well. He's not evil or anything as I said. A little grumpy but a good person." She paused for a moment, staring at the butter melting in the pan, trying to think of the right words. "He's a doctor, well training to become one at least." She turned around and flashed Cait another smile.
