The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena pouted. She was worried about Sylar, living underground couldn't be terribly fun, or good for you, for that matter. She was concerned that someone else would meet him and try to take advantage of him, of course, it isn't as if they could really hurt him, his Armour looked pretty solid and those claws looked pretty nasty.
Serena looked at Sylar, wondering if she should press the issue and then decided against it. "Alright, you said you had my scent? if you ever need anything, come and find me alright?" Serena's concern was evident in her voice.
Serena giggled at Regan's purring, it was so sweet, some people may have thought it was awkward, but Serena thought it was really nice, a lovely show of affection. Serena was really happy to have decided to come out here to see Regan today.
"Not too bad thanks, still haven't started classes, was meant to this week, but there was a mix up with something, Little nervous to tell you the truth." And she probably had reason to be, high school was bad enough as it was, without the class having powers... but a group of high schoolers, with potentially explosive powers...
Serena smiled at Regan "Love what you've done with the place," Serena said in a sarcastic, yet playful tone. "Need a hand?"
Serena smiled at Sylar, he seemed to be mulling over the idea, that was good. If he decided to come, Serena would be most delighted. She didn't know if he understood the concept after so long in isolation, but she would like to be his friend.
"Yeah, I've lived there for a couple of months." Wow... Time flies. Serena thought it hadn't been nearly that long since she had first ventured to the mansion. She loved it there. It was so... homey, she was surprised at how much she cared for the place.
She loved so many things there, the people for one thing, the layout, the grounds. Her roommate, who was awesome... Her thoughts were interrupted by Another comment by Sylar. "Of course you are silly." Serena said in a soothing tone.
Serena's smile grew as she stepped into the room and moved towards Regan, then it changed into a grin. "Actually, I came to see you Regan, I wanted to see how you were doing, and if you would like a hand." The warm feelings that flowed from that British accent could light up a whole room.
As the morning sun filtered through the windows of the green house Serena stepped closer to Regan and pulled her into a hug, ignoring the mess of the greenhouse for a moment. "How have you been?" Serena asked.
It was nice that it was relatively mild weather today, Serena was getting away with just a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. She loved it when she could be more versatile with what she wore.
Serena shook her head. "As far as I know, we don't recruit anyone, My friend brought be there because she thought I would be safe and could be happy there, I am offering to take you to visit and see what you think." Serena said, with... was it possible to carry a smile in your voice?
Serena felt sad for a moment again. His voice was rather emotionless a lot of the time, to feel nothing for art, or music. Also, it really SUCKED that he couldn't see, although again, it may have been a good thing, he seemed easily scared off, he might have run from the sight of a 17 year old hovering her blood in the air...
"It's not that far... about a 15 minute walk from here near the canals by the hudson, maybe slightly less through the sewers if you want to be completely concealed on the way there... that is, if you want to come.
Serena really hoped that Sylar would come, she thought he could really learn to enjoy life at the mansion, where people wouldn't judge you just because you were a mutant, where they would accept you as family and help you come to terms with who you are.
She somehow doubted, going by Sylar's description, that his Family had been anything like that... Hopefully though, he would see that the mansion was like that and he would join and become part of it.
Serena wandered through the mansion grounds aimlessly for a few minutes, she wasn't entirely sure where she should go looking for Regan, well, she thought she'd start at the green house. A voice in her head mumbled something about her not asking Liz for directions before leaving this morning, shut it she shot back.
She walked around the grounds humming, she was loving the mansion, everyone was so friendly, she had an awesome Roommate, with a very obnoxious parrot. Serena mentally giggled at the thought. Even though she had an annoying bird as an extra roommate, he was sort of amusing. She had to admit.
Serena was dressed in a turquoise tee shirt, her new bracelet from her brother, and even her new blood red hair pins, funnily enough, she had actually acquired both on the same night that she had met Regan.
She walked around, continuing to hum, only getting the occasional odd look from other students, a fair few of them had already seen her around and seen that she was a little odd, yet very bubbly and friendly, so most of those people didn't really question her being in such a nice mood.
She turned the corner, she could see a small building, comprised of mostly glass, she knew what such a building would be called... It was the greenhouse at the mansion. Serena approached it, she saw a familiar bipedal cat standing inside.
Serena picked up pace and opened the door "Helloooooooo" She said, barely containing giggles at seeing her furry friend again.
Serena hadn't even notice Victoria walk up to her so she jumped slightly when she wrapped herself around Serena in a hug. Then the tension in her shoulders dropped even more and she wrapped her arms around Victoria, she felt much calmer when she was with the little girl, she didn't know why.
She cleared her throat slightly and looked to Gemma. "It's alright, and thank you. I've got it together, at least for now. My brother wouldn't want me to be all down right now, he'd want me to get myself sorted out so that I had a place to stay and maybe switched schools after finding out I was a mutant."
Serena's wave of sadness, which had been suppressed, was suddenly replaced with a wave of pride, her brother was managing to look after her, even from the grave Eh? She was so happy to have had such a great big brother. Thank you she silently thought to him.
Serena smiled at Victoria, she felt a wave of relief, a lot of the tension left her shoulders. She could rest, she could finally rest, that was a very good thing. "Thank you Victoria, it means a lot, I could seriously use some rest."
Serena smiled and gave the young girl a gentle hug for a moment and then stood up and patted herself down, knocking some of the dust from falling in the alley earlier that night, She then turned to Emerald. "Thank you as well Emerald, if anything I at least got some company and more accustomed to the idea of being a mutant this evening."
Serena then proceeded to give the tall red headed woman a quick gentle hug as well.
Serena smiled at the boy , Sylar was a nice name. "I'm Serena. Sylar is a nice name." Serena was pleased, he seemed to be engaging in the conversation and chatting to Serena, his name was a good start, now that she was on a first name basis with him, her responses would hopefully get across better.
Serena decided to try straight up honesty, cat and mouse was beginning to drag on for too long. "Look Sylar, I'm going to be perfectly honest with you, the world out there isn't that great, but the mansion has safety in numbers and they could also clear things up with the cops so they wouldn't go after you,"
Serena took a quick breath "The reason that I was asking you about it is because they are nice people and it sounds like you haven't met that many, honestly, If my friend Tses hadn't found me and brought me to the mansion, I'd probably be dead, or in serious trouble by now."
Serena took a moment to think about how to respond to his slightly earlier question about beauty "Beauty is something wonderful and amazing, it can dazzle you or leave you breathless, a lot of people associate it with just looking attractive, but it's more than that, it's things in life that amaze, music, art, personality. All of the things that I think make life worth living." There was the elegance and wonderful tone in Serena's voice as the words poured out that surprised her, she hadn't realised she could be that passionate.
Serena listened to Liz babble on about it in excitement, her jaw dropped. Serena had been crossing her fingers that Liz wouldn't freak out like she had been expecting her to do,no instead she was bouncing with excitement... Not literally obviously.
Serena looked slightly awkward for a moment "Well you see, as I said, I can't really control it and as far as I can tell it's only outside of the body, I guess I can sorta shape it and change it's form..." Serena wouldn't lie, she felt awkward.
Liz was standing there, getting all excited about a power that could very easily accidentally kill someone. Although... the night before she had used it for self defense and she had managed to do it without hurting anyone. Maybe Liz was right, maybe she should learn to control it.
"I guess your right, about learning to control it I mean, at the very least I should learn it so that I don't accidentally hurt someone." Serena gave Liz a small smile.
Serena felt awful for this teenager, he sounded like he had spent his whole life in fear and hiding, at that his parents had instilled a lot of that fear, that was despicable. "It's true humans are an easily scared species, but that is of things they do not understand."
Serena gathered herself, drawing on her feelings of compassion, she really truly wanted to help this boy. "If you saw a beautiful creature, of any kind, maybe a large cat, a lizard with shining scales, would you call that a monster? Serena said asking the question in a rhetorical way, with something warm in her voice still.
"Mutants are no different. We have every right to exist and sure some humans are scared of us, but some will go out of their way to help us because like I do, they see us as people, no matter our appearance or what we can do." Serena's voice was gentle, almost motherly, or what you would expect a loving parent to sound like, or maybe a sibling.
"And yes they know we are there, most of them don't mind, and because there are so many of us, the nasty ones stay far away, where they cannot ridicule us or try to harm us."
She took a deep breath. "By the way, do you have a name?" Serena's words would come across better if she could address him on a first name basis, then the words would make more sense. He might take to them better.
Serena listened carefully as Liz explained how her mutation worked and how it could be overwhelming at times. She expected that although it could be, Liz still loved it and accepted it as part of who she was, that was something amazing.
Serena suspected, in a small corner of her mind, that she would have to do the same thing one day, but that day was a ways off. She quieted down the small, uncertain section of her mind and focused on the conversation with Liz. She was shocked by the amount of creatures around.
"Sounds like your head must get plenty noisy..." Serena murmured. She tried to imagine what it would be like, all of those emotions you could feel in your head at once... It was even harder to imagine by the fact that they were animals so were obviously more instinct driven then humans.
Serena wondered what she should say to Liz's question about her own mutation... Then she gave a mental sigh, if they were going to be roommate, and, more importantly friends, Serena would have to be completely honest with Liz.
She smiled to Elizabeth. "I guess you'd have to find out eventually considering we are roommate s." Serena took a deep breath, suppressing bad thoughts as best she could and thinking of how to word her reply to Liz, simultaneously.
She opened her mouth and spoke. "I guess the best way to describe it would be Haemokinesis? I can telekineticlly control blood. Although, I can't really control it itself, to be honest I have only ever used it on purpose once..." Serena's words sounded heavy.
She really hoped that Liz wouldn't be creeped out too much, or wouldn't want to get a new roommate, she really liked Liz, she seemed like she would make an awesome roommate.
Serena felt a small smile as he said sorry, so he could care for others, that was a start to filling in some of the blanks to this guy. Serena's smile turned grim. "Yeah, he's not going to kill anyone else." Serena said quietly.
Serena wondered what the boy's family might have been like, either dead, or pretty bad for him to end up in a sewer like this. She looked grim when he answered her unsaid question. She felt bad, and then realised if he had been living like this for so long, he was probably far beyond anger or sadness by now.
Serena pondered what he said for a moment, what could she say? Her brothers words bounced about in her head, something about being sincere and true to your heart being all you could really do and hoping for the best.
Serena decided to listen to her older brothers words. "When I say family, I don't mean just blood ties, trust me I know about them. What I mean is a group of people who accept you for who you truly are, who will love you no matter what. That is what I have found there."
Serena got slightly stern, but still very clearly sincere and the warm feeling was still threaded into her words like a stitching she hadn't meant to implant and couldn't shake. "Stop calling yourself a monster, you are just someone who has been mistreated. My friend Regan is a bipedal human sized cat, who turns into a saber tooth, another friend has a pair of wings and a lions tail, he turns into a gryphon, another is a wolf that turns into a werewolf on fullmoons, they are no more monsters than you are silly."
on the last few words of Serena's sentance compassion flowed into them, like a river flowing into an even bigger ocean.
