The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sitting and watching the other acrobats at work was an inspiration for Skydancer. She had seen them perform live before, of course, actually at the circus, but practice was always something a little different. It was more authentic, somehow, away from all the glitz and glamour of the live show and without the need to pander to the crowd. It was obvious, as well, the sense of camaraderie everyone appeared to feel for one another and it was that, more than anything, that made her nervous. How was she ever to fit into a group that almost seemed like a big extended family?
Skydancer didn't have to wait long before she was approached by a thin, well toned black hair woman. The woman's hair was long and tied in a topknot. "I'm Anise, you must be Skydancer." Her voice was smooth and confident and she held out a hand, without the least bit of hesitation or uncertainty. Skydancer stood up and offered her hand in kind, shaking the other woman's hand in what turned out to be a firm handshake.
"I am. Good to meet you, Anise. You'll be helping me train?" Skydancer met the confident woman with confidence of her own. Just because, on the inside, she was more than a little uncertain about what was to come and her potential place in all of it, didn't mean there was any reason to let it show on the outside. Creating the illusion of confidence was half the battle and that half, at least, was the easy part.

Honestly, I would almost be tempted to say just have a MoTM and add to that a thread of the month, or something like that. There are some amazing threads out there and I feel as if it would be nice to give some of them a bit of a spotlight as well. It might encourage people to read more threads that are out there, whether or not actual points are given for winning something like a thread of the month. For that matter, even if we didn't have a thread of the month as an award, perhaps a thread recommending other particularly awesome threads for people to read?

Skydancer could not remember the last time she had been forced to exert herself this much or in such dire circumstances. It was one thing to train to the point of exhaustion with the end result of going to the grandest stage of them all to compete in front of the world and it was quite another to literally be running for your life. If she had to choose, she'd choose the first one every single time. Not only was it less terrifying by far, but the consequences of failure were less. No matter how bad things had seemed at the time, in the end even if she lost she'd be all right. Not so when her life was on the line.
A new shudder of fear ran through Skydancer's body when she realized that the mob hadn't been stopped by the building, but were still pursing. Why were they still pursing, what force was driving them? Was it truly that they hated mutants so much that they had lost all sense of rationality and common sense? They were in a murderous frenzy and nothing seemed to deter them from their prey, but the question was why? A question for a later time once they were safe. If they were ever to be safe again.
Another tube shot out and Skydancer jumped to the next building. It was then, she realized there was a problem. There were no other buildings in range of her tubes, no other buildings to jump onto. There were a few buildings away from the mob now, but would that actually protect them? Everything that should have prevented the angry horde from pursing had failed to do so, so why should the mere fact of having to leap buildings stand in the way now? What was driving them?
"I think I need to return to the earth." Another shudder went through Skydancer as she contemplated her next move. If the other woman, whose name she still hadn't had the chance to get, preferred to take to the skies and abandon her she wouldn't blame her. Their pursuers were like mindless storms of hatred and loathing, utterly unthinking and uncaring for anything but the deaths of those they hunted, or so it seemed to her. If this was to be the end of her, at the very least she intended to go down fighting.

Sometimes there was nothing more wonderful than being able to sit down and relax. So what if said relaxing was dozens of feet above ground on some random balcony, that didn't change any of the relevant facts. The facts were, Skydancer was tired and didn't feel like being on her feet anymore. Of course, things would be even better if she also had a chair up there with her and some way to levitate said comfortable chair back to the Mansion without any physical effort at all, but one couldn't expect miracles.
“It’s kind of dangerous for you to be here.”
Skydancer jumped and may or may not have let out an 'eep' depending on how willing she was to admit to such a sound coming out of her mouth. Clearly, in her exhaustion, she wasn't paying nearly as much attention as she should have been and, if she wasn't careful, that kind of inattention could end up with her getting seriously hurt or worse. Even if, for all intents and purposes, no one should be able to get up there with her.
Skydancer jumped back up to her feet and spun around to face the voice, tubes wrapped protectively around her. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize anyone was home." That sure did sound stupid now that she said it out loud. Why had she thought it was a good idea to just park on someone's porch again? "I just needed some place to sit down for a few minutes." Didn't make it sound any better, but at least it had the advantage of being true.

Skydancer hadn't been at The Mansion for long, but all ready it felt very much like home. In fact, it felt just as homey as her parents place had felt when she lived there. It felt like a lifetime since she had lived with her family but, in truth, she knew it was only a year. So much had changed in the past year and, perhaps, so much more would change in the next one.
"Welcome to my home," Skydancer spoke to Kitra and Allison as she beckoned them inside. "Here, you don't have to worry about anyone discriminating against you simply because you're a mutant or have purple skin." She smirked at Allison, having finally come to accept that her purple skin was a part of her, whether she liked it or not. Besides, it gave her character, right?

It was a little after nightfall and Skydancer was slowly making her way back to The Mansion. It had been an especially difficult afternoon of training as she tried to pick up a new skill for use in her soon to be debut at the circus. Her skin, amazing as it was, might not have shown any of the numerous bruises that would have shown up on the skin of any normal person, but just underneath every one of her muscles ached abominably and she couldn't count the number of times she had fallen and crashed to the ground. Everyone agreed, however, that it was all part of the process of getting good and it was just something she had to accept.
The rooftop trip from the circus training facility back to the Mansion was something Skydancer made regularly and had become second nature. Tonight, however, she just didn't have the energy for her usual breakneck adventure home. Thus, instead of choosing a novel path back and following it as quickly as possible, she chose to take a much slower pace. Her muscles were simply protesting far too much for any other option.
A purple tube shot out and wrapped itself around the bar of a balcony in the building across from Skydancer. She leaped and allowed her momentum to work with the strength of the tube in order to make it possible for her to swing onto the balcony. Normally she would have been off to the next building a mere moment later, but tonight all she wanted to do was rest. Deciding that, so many feet above the ground, there really wasn't that much of a risk of people interrupting her, she sat down on the balcony, tubes splayed out around her. She would only rest a moment before continuing, honest.

There were few things in life more thrilling than jumping and swinging from rooftop to rooftop at top speed. The risk of serious injury or even death was always there because there was always a risk, with every leap, that she'd miscalculate and miss her next handhold. It was that risk that made travelling in such a manner so addicting; a risk that no flyer could ever fully appreciate. Because in flight, or so she imagined, everything was certain and there was very little skill involved; unlike with swinging.
As Skydancer swiftly made her way back towards the Mansion, she maintained her awareness behind her, seeking any sign that her opponent might be catching up. At first there was no sign at all of him, but she had been given a head start so that wasn't surprising and that didn't cause her to slow her pace any. Competition was what she lived for and it jut wouldn't be right not to give it her all.
It was the smell of smoke that eventually gave away the fact that her opponent was catching up to her. Skydancer smirked to herself, re-applying herself and attempting to gain speed. A tendril shot out and grabbed a hold of a fire escape ladder and she swung onto the next building, this time a story up. Faster he might be, but that was no reason to give up or give in. Besides, The Mansion wasn't much further.

"Do you know how to defend yourself," Skydancer asked Allison in a serious tone. This was the second time she had encountered the woman and lead to less than ideal circumstances and she was concerned about her well being. "I don't even mean with your powers, but just in general." Because not everyone's powers were as dangerous as her own.
"Definitely taxi," Skydancer answered, beckoning both women to follow her. "Its a little bit far to walk." Not everyone could travel at high speeds from the rooftops. Her high speeds weren't even all that high compared to some, but after the experiences they had just been through, going the easy route seemed best.

The more Skydancer heard about this strange little island the more bizarre and surreal it all seemed to be. And yet...and yet there was something that just felt right about it; authentic. Nothing that was said seemed to be dishonest and while she wasn't entirely certain of the motivations involved, it all seemed to be just as the Doorman said it was. Bizarre to say the least, but who was she to reject such a good thing? This was, perhaps, just what her sanity needed.
"If we're allowed to stay here and enjoy this place, then of course we're willing to help," Skydancer answered. No, none of the others were allowed to dispute her volunteering them. If everything was as it seemed, and so far she had no reason to suspect that it was not, then red giants and lava men or not, it was only fair that they give back a little bit.
Skydancer turned her attention back to Venus and Aedus. "I would love to take a look around the island. Would you to care to accompany me?" The dispute between the other red men wasn't any of her concern and something she'd rather avoid. Venus and Aedus both seemed nice enough and she could do with avoiding whatever conflict happened to be brewing.

Interesting idea which I rather like. I'm not sure that I necessarily like all the suggested award categories specifically, but the idea as a whole I think has a lot of potential. Personally, of the potential awards mentioned, favourite thread is the one I like the most and hope someone does something with.

The fact that the other mutant seemed to be avoiding the question regarding his powers, just a little bit, only served to make Skydancer more curious about them. She could wait, however, as discovering their nature seemed to be imminent. Patience might not have been her best trait, but it wasn't something she struggled with too much either.
"I look forward to seeing what you can do," Skydancer answered with a smile. The vast variety of powers out there was fantastic and made every potential new discovery a mystery. In the few short months she had been at The Mansion, that mystery only served to make the adventure more intriguing.
"I guess you're lucky in some ways to have a non-dangerous power," Skydancer mused out loud. As she spoke, she followed Sam, anticipation regarding what was to come building. "My power is. Or rather, it can be. But I'm fortunate in that its not really accidentally dangerous, you know? I can hurt people but its not at risk for getting out of control or anything."
Way to go, now she'd probably just convinced him that she was some sort of creepy violent freak. Good job.
