The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kitra stepped out of the cab and stepped towards the front gates of the Mansion. The gates were actually open, which was cool. She had been pretty sure that they would have to call someone.
Kitra shrugged and stepped through the open gates and looked around at the grounds. She hadn't been there for a few years now and the place had gotten a lot more lush and more trees had popped up. Kitra took a few steps before stopping and turning around to wait for Allison and Skydancer.

Skydancer hadn't been at The Mansion for long, but all ready it felt very much like home. In fact, it felt just as homey as her parents place had felt when she lived there. It felt like a lifetime since she had lived with her family but, in truth, she knew it was only a year. So much had changed in the past year and, perhaps, so much more would change in the next one.
"Welcome to my home," Skydancer spoke to Kitra and Allison as she beckoned them inside. "Here, you don't have to worry about anyone discriminating against you simply because you're a mutant or have purple skin." She smirked at Allison, having finally come to accept that her purple skin was a part of her, whether she liked it or not. Besides, it gave her character, right?
Skydancer was… really proud of the Mansion, apparently. Allison met her smirk with an amused look. The Mansion did look nice, and the philosophy sounded good, but… “Sanctuary’s the same.” And Sanctuary was her home, that didn’t care if she wasn’t interested in business or didn’t feel like lying to be successful or didn’t want to be used as eye candy to lure the best fresh-out-of-college boys to work for them. And that, in its way, was more important to her than whether they cared if she was a mutant.
Of course, Allison always had the option of not looking like a mutant if she didn’t want to, so she could see why it was more important to Sky. Still, though, Sanctuary didn’t discriminate either, and it was always nice to know there were multiple havens, even if you didn’t strictly need more than one at a time. The fact that others existed--and thus, other people who weren’t prejudiced existed--was nice in itself.
Kitra couldn't help but grin, Skydancer really liked the Mansion and its non discrimative ways. Of course she couldn't blame her. She wondered idly who might be around still. Kitra continued inside towards the common room.
"Ah, is that where you might be staying Allison?" The way she said it somewhat seemed to match how Sky had proudly pronounced the Mansion. And Allison responded in like terms, well thats what it seemed anyway. Kitra smiled, "I had friends here and I'm sure I have friends over in Sanctuary still." She paused and frowned thoughtfully, "Though it's been a few years since I've been in the states so not quite sure who is around anymore."
Kitra then clamped her mouth shut as she realized she had been babbling. "Sorry I tend to keep talking without realizing unless someone shuts me up, or starts talking themselves." She fell silent and looked slightly sheepish.

It was good, in a way, to hear that Sanctuary had the same sort of atmosphere as The Manison did. Skydancer had made several attempts to go see the place for herself but so far, for one reason or another, she hadn't quite made it there yet. Hopefully one day she would manage it, as it was still firmly upon her list of things to do.
"Its good that there are options for mutants. I spent a year living on the streets before coming here and I know a lot of mutants who have similar stories. Places like The Mansion and Sanctuary work to change that, I think." It was something she used to be ashamed of, but now it was just part of her past and who she was.
"You used to live around here," Skydancer asked. "I'm afraid I don't really know too many people. Between learning to defend myself and others, and training to become a circus acrobat, it doesn't leave much time for socialization."
Allison’s self justifications did not work nearly as well once she’d obviously been caught. She blushed slightly and looked away to hide it as she answered the paper girl’s question. “Yeah, I’m at Sanctuary.”
…The Mansion did look nice. She didn’t particularly feel like saying so, though.
She didn’t have much of an answer for Skydancer’s comment, either. ‘Oh, yeah, I live at Sanctuary, which is a homeless shelter, technically, because I was being stubborn and not actually because I need to. And am still being stubborn. So, actually, there was never any danger that I’d be homeless at all, ever, unless I decided I wanted to be.’
Not a comment she felt like making.
Nor did the rest of what Skydancer said make her feel much better. She wanted to be able to defend herself and others… but she was still stuck with running away. Or, if others were around, letting herself get hit as a distraction. Which, really, tended not to work well. She really needed to stop needing to be saved. Even if people did keep saving her.
…Most of the time. Not quite everyone was able to steal weapons from far away like paper girl was.
…On which note, it said something that Allison had gotten so used to odd names that ‘paper girl’ didn’t register as not a name until she thought about it. She blinked, looking away from her deliberate examination of the sky in order to look at the paper girl. “What’s your name?”
Kitra's face turned a slight shade of red. "Heh, sorry about that. Name's Kitra." She looked sheepish, "Things got a tad heated back there, didn't realize we hadn't been properly introduced." Kitra continued to look sheepish and nor did the red on her cheeks go away. She shook herself mentally before pulling out her sketchbook to check on few things.
Kitra grimaced, in all the excitement she had nearly forgotten about a project for a rather wealthy client. She had contacted most of her clients the night prior when she had returned to new york. Quite a few had already given her projects they wanted completed. It was quite the simple project actually, they had given her a list of birds from several different types of climates to put together in one picture. It wouldn't be hard, she already had a layout pictured in her head. And the client wanted it in colored ink.
Kitra blinked a few times and continued to exam her other clients requests. This was her way of getting rid of being embarrassed. Dive into something else. Even if it meant that she had become rather oblivious to what was going on around her.
