The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Skydancer did not like guns. Not that she had much experience with them, but what little she did have made her hate them. At close range, she knew there were few who could stand up to her tubes but guns gave whoever was wielding them an unfair advantage. She especially disliked guns that were pointed at her and, just at that moment, she made a rather obvious target.
Shots rang out and, in a desperate move, she dove behind a nearby crate and heard a pair of bullets ricochet off a wall. Concerned with getting her own self out of there alive and all in one piece, she spared little attention towards the other mutant. If Aura couldn't take care of herself then she would make the thugs suffer for the suffering they themselves had caused.
With what she hoped was an intimidating battle cry, Skydancer lifted her head out from behind the crate just long enough to target a pair of thugs and send her tubes shooting out towards them. Guns might have been a disadvantage but the relative close quarters of the warehouse gave her an advantage in turn. Short range she may have been, but unlike most short range mutants, she wasn't limited to mere hand to hand. Her tubes gave her up to 30 ft of reach which she intended to use to their fullest.
Each of the two tubes she shot out wrapped squarely around a thug, one around his wrist and the other around his neck. One of them screamed; she guessed the one who's wrist was ensnared as the other would be having problems even breathing. Both guns went down. She hurled the one who's neck she caught at a third thug, sending them both tumbling to the ground. Of the remaining thug she squeezed until she felt the snap of his wrist breaking and an agonized cry to confirm what she had done.
"That M drug sure changes the agme"
Skydancer's head remained out just long enough for her to catch a glimpse of the man changing before she ducked protectively down once again. Things had just gone from bad to much worse.

Late nights were becoming something of a pattern for Skydancer. Acrobat practice ended late and actually arriving at home came later still. She found, increasingly, that she enjoyed the peace the night had to offer, both on the rooftops and when she opted to travel by more conventional means. Travelling by conventional means was far overrated.
As she had many nights prior and likely would many nights in the future, Skydancer traveled by rooftop. Her mutation combined with her acrobatic training made her uniquely suited to that form of travel. Through a combination of running, swinging and jumping she found she could make quite good time getting from place to place but it wasn't even a matter of how long or short it took, it was a matter of the trip itself. The fact was, it was fun being a mutant, at least when she wasn't getting yelled at and attacked for that fact.
Skydancer almost missed seeing the distinctive pink aura from the mutant below her. She had only met the woman once, on the day she had arrived at the city, but she was hard to miss once seen. Deciding to pay the girl a visit, Skydancer jumped to the ground, a pair of tubes cushioning her fall, just in time to see Aura enter a nearby warehouse. A moment later she heard gunfire and, knowing she couldn't let the other mutant face whatever was in there on her own, she sprinted to the door, several more tubes bursting from her purple flesh.
"Leave her the hell alone," Skydancer called out, tubes extended in front of her as far as the walls of the warehouse would allow. Hopefully intimidation would be enough as she really really hated bullets.

Only moments after Skydancer's own arrival, a second woman arrived and one with a distinctinly wolf-like appearance. She was well muscled and, by the speed in which she acted, Skydancer had to assume that she was no stranger to these sorts of confrontations. Were they not in such a potentially dangerous or even deadly situation, she might very well have taken the time to observe and study the woman.
Skydancer inclined her head curtly towards the newcomer before returning her attention to the thugs and their would-be victim. Knives began coming out of hidden pockets and she had to question the wisdom of that. Were they all suicidal or was the hatred of mutants simply so much that it clouded any sort of better judgement they might have? If the latter, they lived in an even sadder world than she had come to believe.
The dragon lady was the first to actually draw blood although the wolf mutant had been the first to succeed in an offensive dispatch. Not to be outdone, Skydancer glimpsed the man lunging at the dragon and it took only that moment of recognition for one of her tubes to shoot out and wrap itself tightly around his wrist. She squeezed and felt bones crack and the knife clattered to the ground as the man called out in pain.
"I could do a lot worse," Skydancer hissed at him, anger evident in her voice. She didn't want to hurt anyone but how could she be expected to simply stand by when such injustices were taking place. "You should be thankful I have a care for the sanctity of life, even if you don't!"

Sometimes Skydancer was glad of the fact that she was so adept at travel via rooftop. Not only did it provide a most excellent workout but it also meant she got to avoid an ever more hostile city. While she had always felt like a freak who didn't quite belong, her time with the circus had helped curbed that, allowing her to be more comfortable with who and what she was. Unfortunately, recently, the residents of the city weren't nearly so accepting. She had seen the video, of course, and had some strong opinions of her own on it. Hell, she had gotten involved in some of the blowback from that video. If only humans and mutants could learn to just get along things would be so much more comfortable for everyone.
Skydancer shot out a tube and wrapped it around a pole sticking out of the top of the nearest roof, running and using her momentum to vault onto the new roof. People rarely looked up unless they had a reason to and besides, in this city was it really so strange to have mutants running around on rooftops? Surely she couldnt' be the only one. Not only was it more peaceful above the crowd, but it allowed to to view the city in a different perspective than most and to see things that most were likely to miss. It wasn't a bad life, really, and that she could thinkt hat was a testament to just how much she had grown in recent months.
Looking down below, Skydancer didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at first. It was the milling of a small crowd around what could be none other than a fellow mutant that caught her eye. She was too far to read expressions or to clearly hear what was being said, but their body language was clear enough. The one in the middle was a mutant and they didn't appreciate mutants in their city. It wasn't right and it wasn't fair but it was the reality of their existance as visible mutants. Hatred and violence, for some, was a way of life.
It was when things turned violent that Skydancer decided to take action. Violence wasn't something she appreciated, perhaps going so far as to state that it was something she greatly disliked. However, she wasn't about to let someone get hurt by her own inaction, not when she had every opportunity to jump down and actually do something. Her power, aside from allowing her thrills and adventures few others could experience, was dangerous and sometimes it was appropriate to take advantage of that fact.
It was right around the time that the dragon mutant roared that Skydancer jumped to the ground. Two purple tubes shot out of her chest and one out of her back, whipping to the ground and supporting her jump to the earth. Once earthbound she stood straight, razor shart tips pointed threateningly at the thugs and she glared threateningly.

Sounds like a plan. Skydancer can be pretty much anywhere in the city relatively easily and being visible mutants makes it easy for everyone to at least be able to spot one another in a crowd.

I need to get Skydancer back to being more involved so I volunteer for a thread. She's got an independent streak of her own and only recently come back into the city. She's slightly on the good side of neutral and a visible mutant in her own right.
In fact, I'd even be open for a thread between both Drake and Emerald, if both of you would be open to that idea. I don't believe Skydancer has yet met Emerald but I think she'd find a lot to respect in her.

“If you want to get to the roof, we should go out the back. The cops are probably here by now and while I can hide myself I'm not going to watch as a fellow mutant gets dragged away for nothing.”
Skydancer nodded her assent to the suggestion. Just because she was more comfortable on the rooftops didn't mean she felt any need to take unnecessary risks. As she hurried closer to the back door, she grabbed a scarf hanging on a rack and wrapped it around her neck and head. It was winter so it wouldn't be too unusual to see a woman wrapped in a scarf and, more importantly, it helped to obscure her purple skin. It might not be enough to hide her entirely but, if she was smart, it might be enough to avoid a second glance.
"I’m not super interested in anyone getting in trouble, so do me a favor and stay out of it. Try to go toward the back of the store."
"Thank you," Skydancer spoke to the other woman curtly and precisely. It seemed a safe assumption to be made that she was likely a mutant, possibly even responsible for the glass incident. Luckily for her, she didn't have skin that made her stick out wherever she went so it was probably easier to hid her involvement. Assuming, of course, that she had any involvement.
The store was less chaos than Skydancer might have expected, with a majority of patrons making their way outside. Those that remained seemed justifiably panicked and Skydancer wasn't as gentle as she might have been in pushing them out of her way in trying to reach the back exit. As the sirens came ever closer, however, haste was clearly of top import.

"Acrobatics? You must be entertaining to see in action,"
"Now that you mention it," Skydancr answered, "I suppose that I am pretty entertaining." She didn't consider herself to be particularly egotistical, but she did have a pretty good handle on her abilities. Besides, the crowd seemed to like her. She dug into her bag and pulled out a card with the name and website of her circus troupe. "If you're ever looking for a day of entertainment, this is who I work with." She handed the card over.
"I'm afraid my healing skin doesn't help with much that's more serious than paper cuts," Skydancer replied with a sheepish shrug of her shoulders. "Paper cuts, minor cuts and bruises, that's about it. Seems to be a skin only sort of thing. So, probably not so much more useful than your fur."
At the name offered Skydancer extended a hand for shaking. "Pleasure to meet you."

Skydrancer drew all of her many tubes back under her skin save one, coming out of her shoulder, which she wrapped covertly around her arm. The small wounds healed within seconds of their disappearance inside her body. Now that the confrontation had moved beyond the mutant woman, becoming unseen seemed to be of more important than anything else. The one she kept out, just in case it should be needed. Always be prepared should things turn bad and things seemed disturbingly likely to turn bad. Or, perhaps more accurately, to turn worse than they were currently.
Skydancer nodded at the other woman's advice to act natural. If that was even possible as a purple skinned mutant she wasn't sure, but for the time being that seemed the most prudent option. In her experience cops rarely went looking on the rooftops and rarely even bothered to look up, but then again she was rarely in a situation in which cops had cause to seek out mutants. She knew she wasn't the only mutant to lurk the rooftops. Still, even if they were likely to pursue up there, she felt more comfortable high above than stuck on the ground. After all, pursuit or no she had advantages up there that they could only dream of.
"Maybe… you might just look good in that. I assume they're here for you, after you broke all those windows…"
Skydancer looked up from her browsing of shirts to the new voice that spoke. "No," she answered, voice somewhat cold and precise. "But they will assume it is." The curse of being a mutant who couldn't easily hide or, at least, couldn't hide without all due preparation. Sirens. Not a surprise but very unwelcome all the same.
Skydancer turned back to the instigator of the whole situation, almost forgotten if not for the fact that she had just handed Skydancer a shirt. "You may be able to blend in, but I fear I may have no choice but to take to the rooftops."

CRASH!!!
The unexpected noise caused Skydancer to jump and she very nearly impaled a poor man standing a little too close to one of her waving tubes with the shock of it. Lucky for her and even more lucky for him, she had better control than that. Maybe without her long months of training as a circus acrobat things might have turned out far worse for the both of them, but that wasn't exactly something she cared to contemplate.
”We need to move...now. Unless you want to join the gargoyle from the video in the hospital.”
Skydancer nodded, allowing herself to be pulled. The shattering glass was only going to distract the panicked crowd for so long before they turned on her. Of course, that was kind of the whole point of the display, to focus their attention on her instead of the mutant they were previously confronting she she was at least moderately certain she could defend herself if need be, but not without hurting a lot of people. And not if any one of them had a gun and happened to be brave and/or stupid enough to actually use it.
It seemed to be a good leap in logic to assume the glass breaking was mutant caused. What Skydancer most wanted to do was ascend to the relative safety of the rooftops, but she couldn't do that in good conscience unless or until she knew that the mysterious third mutant, whoever he or she was, was safe. She looked around frantically but, try as she might, couldn't pinpoint who it might be.
"I think there's another mutant here," she spoke to the woman grabbing her, just loud enough to be heard over the chaos. "We need to find them then I can take us to the rooftops. We'll have a chance to escape there."

As Skydancer made her way closer, the words suddenly became more clear and with every word she heard she felt a deep sinking feeling in her chest. It wasn't right, the words being spoken, the idea of mutants being locked up like dangerous animals. Such views were exactly why it made things so dangerous for mutants like her, who couldn't easily hide, to even do something as simple as walking around outside in safety. She was lucky as her power allowed her to defend herself, but she knew there were though who weren't nearly so fortunate.
The woman defending the mutant girl laid bare the fact that she was a mutant too, one who could apparently make herself go unseen. Not, apparently, at the moment although now that it was mentioned, the argument was attracting less attention than seemed usual. Skydancer didn't' know if she had any ability to defend herself but she wasn't about to take that chance. If the mutant girl should get injured or worse because of her inaction, knowing that she could help, she wasn't sure she'd be able to live with herself.
As Skydancer approached, more people glanced in her direction and began muttering as they took note of her purple skin. She ignored them. Tubes burst out of her skin, one on each wrist, two from the back of her neck and three down each side of her torso. She felt the familiar brief flash of pain as they pierced flesh before that pain faded within a few second. Now people were really taking note of her as she spread her tubes out around her body, lethal tips gleaming.
"I think you ought to leave the woman alone. No one wants anyone to get hurt." So maybe subtlety wasn't her strong suite.

Skydancer had learned to enjoy the reactions her power sometimes provoked. It hadn't always been the case. Back before she had joined the circus, she rarely felt like anything more than some sort of freak of nature, but she had learned to revel in what she was. So what if people stared, at least make it something worth staring at. Of course, picking up a can of Pringles wasn't nearly so impressive as her usual acrobatics but a reaction was a reaction.
"I... imagine that makes for quite the party trick,"
Skydancer grinned back at the deerman. "I suppose you could say that. I'm an acrobat by trade and these tubes kind of make my show. You have to have a gimmick to make it as a public spectacle and this is mine."
"Does it hurt?"
"A little," Skydancer shrugged. It was a pain she was used too. "But my skin heals real fast. I'm Skydancer, by the way." Since they were both conversing and exchanging money for goods it seemed introductions were in order.

In truth, Skydancer hadn't actually noticed the marks on the wall until they were brought to her attention but now that she did see them, she couldn't help but think the man before her must be quite impressive with a head full of antlers. "I'm sure those must be an intimidating sight, not to mention potentially dangerous." She took a sip of her bottled water, grateful for its cool refreshment.
Skydancer caught the hint regarding her own powers and smiled. While her purple skin she might have considered a curse once and, if truth be told, sometimes still did, her actual powers were another matter entirely. They allowed her to do things that most people could only dream of and it was difficult not to feel blessed when fully experiencing what they allowed her to do. Mixed blessings indeed.
"It's a lot more impressive when outside and I can really give a proper demonstration regarding what they can do, but this should at least give you an idea." At those words, a tube pushed itself through the top of her wrist, razor sharp tip causing a brief burst of pain. There was a drop of blood before the wound closed a moment later, healed around the tube now outside her body. It waved in the air a moment before she sent it out to wrap itself around a container of Pringles. It then set the Pringles down upon the service desk before disappearing back into her skin, the mark disappearing within seconds.
"I don't usually eat junk food but what the hell, right?" Skydancer began digging for a bit more change.

Purple or not, Skydancer knew she had certain advantages over other visible mutants. In particular, there was no way for anyone to predict, based upon her unusual skin alone, what her powers actually were. The prospect of the unknown alone was enough to dissuade many potential assailants. Of course, there was no way to know for certain that a mutant with the printings of an animal actually had abilities related to that animal, but it was an assumption that was easier to make.
"If you don't mind my asking, do you have any powers beyond being furthered and feathered?" Not wanting to take up the man's time with simple idle chit chat, Skydancer walked a short way to pick up a bottle of water and placed it on the till, fishing out some coins to pay for it. Soda pop had never been much to her liking.
"Well, I guess a local gym might be useful," Skydancer answered, quite content with the change of subject. She hadn't meant for things to get quite so serious with a complete stranger. "I'm something of an acrobat and a gymnast so physical fitness is important." And sometimes the exercise of jumping from rooftop to rooftop and swinging from building to building just wasn't feasible, no matter how much fun it was.

One of the things about getting a new apartment after a prolonged absence was that it was necessary to actually equip one's apartment with what was needed to live. Furniture was the first order of the day and that she had managed to deal with all ready, second hand and soon to be delivered to her, admittedly, rather run down little one bedroom apartment. That done, the next order of the day was to actually fill her kitchen with the tools needed to cook with. Not that she was a fantastic cook by any means, but she could make due. Making due, however, required dishes and that was what brought her out of the house that afternoon.
Immediately after leaving the safety of her four walls Skydancer was stared at and, in hushed tones, remarked upon but that was something she was used to by now. In the past it had bothered her a great deal but now she was better equipped to simply file it away into the background. No, she wasn't exactly happy about it, but her skin was purple and that was the way of things and she just had to learn to deal with reality. Reality, as it turned out, was much easier to deal with when one wasn't distressed at every little thing, especially those little things she couldn't' change. Like being a purple skinned mutant, for example.
The afternoon started out well enough, with the acquisition not only of dishes for eating on, but also some cutlery and a pot which she stored in her backpack. Although cold with winter, it was bright and clear out and that made her time in the city all that more pleasant. A coffee, she decided and then a return home. Home was something she hadn't had in a long time and it was a comfort to have one again. Coffee was something she really couldn't live without.
As Skydancer approached the coffee shop, however, she began to hear shouting and it didn't take a genius to figure out what the shouting was about. It was about the video of the mutant girl that had come out not too long ago, a video that got just as much attention in her little circus troupe as it seemed to in the rest of the world. While her circus troupe, however, was mostly sympathetic to the mutant plight, much of the rest of the world wasn't nearly so understanding.
Worried that the argument might escalate into violence and, even worse, that there might be a mutant on the receiving and of that violence, Skydancer made her way closer, trying to remain as casual and unassuming as possible. She wore a long jacket and hat as well as gloves for the cold. It meant her purple skin wasn't quite so apparent as it might have been during the warmer summer days, but it was still very much purple and more than a passing glance would reveal that. If it was two quarrelsome humans she'd just pass them by and hope to remain unnoticed. However, if there was a victim, especially a mutant victim, she could hardly justify not trying to help.
