The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Skydancer simply couldn't regret her choice of either the day or location for her own little private picnic. It was just approaching evening and starting to cool just a little bit. The sun was shining, however, and the city could be seen many stories below her. She rarely bore any ill will towards humans, at least those who didn't try to hurt her or her fellow mutants, but sometimes she felt just a little bit bad for them. After all, how many of them would know the simple joys of a rooftop picnic?
"Hello? Is anyone there?"
Startled, Skydancer stopped what she was doing mid-bite. Paying attention to her surroundings was one of those things she was still working on mastering. Actually combat and martial arts she was getting the hang of, it was those other things that could, potentially, lead to bad situations that she was still struggling with.
Instantly aware that, up there, the voice could be dangerous, Skydancer got to her feet and turned around. What greeted her didn't look like someone potentially dangerous but, then again, sometimes these things couldn't be told by looks alone. "I'm sorry, you startled me. Can I help you?" She held her body taught and ready, just in case.

Not posing was definitely better than posting and looking like an idiot and something told Skydancer that an attempt would pose would definately end with her looking like an idiot. It was one thing to perform in front of an audience, another to perform to an audience and another thing again to pose for a picture. The first she had done in plenty, the second she was learning to do and the third, well, that was new territory entirely.
"Do you often get to draw strange mutants," Skydancer asked, both because she was genuinely curious and to avoid awkward silence. "I can't imagine too many would randomly decide to park out on your porch." She grinned over at him, not afraid of a little self deprecating humour.
Watching as her portrait slowly started to take place, Skydancer had to admit she was rather impressed. Her own busy life had never left her time for learning art, but it was something she had always had some admiration for. "You're pretty good."

There was in time in Skydancer's life where she rarely, if ever, allowed herself a few hours just be relax. It was all training, homework and, in the short periods of time when she wasn't dedicated to those two things, family obligations. Coming to the city had taught her many new things, however, and one of those new things was the importance of actually taking time to herself. As important as training was, and she still spent a great deal of time at it, it wasn't the most important thing.
In tribute to her new life, Skydancer decided that this evening was one of those evenings that would be dedicated to herself. She had managed to achieve a sort of balance between work and play and now was a time for some of that play. All week she had spent training and working out, not only for the circus but also practicing martial arts. Now it was time to take some time especially for herself.
With a little rest and relaxation in mind, Skydancer packed her backpack full of food and supplies, as well as a nice book and prepared to find herself a perch. Many stories up, on a rooftop apartment building, she stopped and spread the blanket that was brought with her. She then proceeded to take out the dishes she had prepared (or stolen from the Mansion kitchen but it sounded better if she said prepared). Once her little feast was prepared, she sat cross legged on the blanket and began to eat.

The cavernous room Devyn found herself in was nothing short of stunning. She could not recall ever having seen anything half so beautiful as the room she was currently within. Rainbows danced upon the glittering crystal walls and ceiling, literally taking her breath away. Yet, she couldn't escape the prickling of fear that still existed on the back of her neck. Something wasn't right here, despite all appearances to the contrary.
Feeling compelled to enter the room, Devyn took a step forward and then another. Nothing changed or jumped out of the shadows to attack her. Yet, with every step she took the feeling of unease increased. Passing the threshold separating the grey tunnel from the gleaming cavern, the light touched her skin causing it to glow faintly. Aside from the faint purple light now emanating from her flesh, her skin didn't feel any different.
In the center of the room was a calm pool filled with water. It was that pool, Devyn knew, that she had to approach and it was within that pool that whatever evil was in here, would come from. From the very core of her being, she didn't want to approach the pool nor did she want to look into it because she knew, whatever she found staring back at her would be more horrible than anything she could possibly imagine. She could not halt her steps, however, and every grudging step brought her closer to that which she feared the most.

It was with a sense of anticipation that Devyn began walking down the tunnel. The tunnel was thin, barely wider than her body and not wide enough to stretch out her arms. The roof was a mere foot above her head and every surface was smooth, carved stone. It was with a sense of anticipation and just an inkling of dread that she began making her way down the mysterious tunnel. No sounds outside of her footsteps could be heard.
Devyn lost track of the amount of time she spent walking down the tunnel and of the numerous twists and turns she made. There were no side tunnels and only one way to go that didn't involve turning back the way she had come. Feeling a prickling on the back of her neck, Devyn turned around only to find that the tunnel she had been walking down for what seemed like hours had disappeared, to be replaced by a solid rock wall. That wasn't good.
Upon turning back around after realizing that her retreat had been blocked off, Devyn noticed that the tunnel had finally ended and opened up into a great cavern. The cavern, unlike the rest of the dull grey tunnel, was filled with sparkling crystal. Bright, jagged crystal could be seen on every surface. A light shone from above, although she couldn't see the specific source of said light. She blew out the candle, since it was no longer needed to light her way.

He had an interesting look about him, Skydancer decided. Perhaps it was the bright and rather unique hair that did it. Maybe it was something to consider, the next time she decided to switch up her own wig. That was one of the advantages of wearing a wig; one could change one's hairstyle as often and as radically as one desired.
Skydancer waited patiently for Blake to return. He was, she was pretty sure, a bit younger than she was though probably not all that much younger. "So, uh, do you need me to pose or anything," she asked upon his return. She had some familiarity with posing for a camera, due to her past Olympic aspiration and her current circus aspirations, but this was a whole other thing entirely.
Skydancer watched curiously as Blake began to sketch her. This was a new experience and, unexpected or not, she intended to make the best of it. Maybe this was the type of attention she'd have to get used to, with the whole joining the circus thing still in the works. Still, it wasn't really so bad and certainly a lot better than the usual murderous attention she all too often tended to attract.

Once lit, the candle illuminated the room Devyn found herself in. The room was sparse, with only the bed and the table inside. The floor was smooth stone, as were the walls. If she were asked, she would say she was in a cave, though the walls and floor were far too smooth for the cave to be naturally made. The walls went up higher than the light of the candle illuminated and she couldn't make out how high up the roof went.
Looking down at her own body, Devyn found herself wearing a pale white dress. It reminded her, in a rather disturbing fashion, of the dress she had been forced to wear the night she had been kidnapped and almost sacrificed and the thought was not a good one at all. Her feet were bare and feeling cold. The moment she thought of her cold feet, she noticed a pair of white slippers at the edge of the room and walked over to put them on.
Once the slippers were on, Devyn walked around the edge of the room. While in the center, the candle light wasn't sufficient to see the boundaries of the room, but it didn't take her long to discover them. The room was no more than 20 ft by 20 ft and was square with curved corners making up the walls. There was only a single pathway out, a much thinner stone tunnel that faded into blackness in the distance.

"Nice to meet you Blake," Skydancer replied. It still felt a little strange to her when non-mutants reacted positively to her. Maybe she had just become jaded since her skin turned purple, or maybe it had something to do with the fact that she had previously been hunted by angry mobs, kidnapped and otherwise had more than one person attempt to kill her for being a mutant. Then again, who was to say that he wasn't a mutant and just hid it better than her?
"Battle angel?" Skydancer blinked at the guy, feeling a little confused. She thought vaguely that it might have something to do with the phenomenon of anime, although that wasn't something she ever had the chance to learn about. Then again, there were many things she never had the chance to learn about or experience for herself.
"Sure, if you want to draw me, how can I say no to that?" It was a bit of an odd request, sure, but also kind of flattering in its own way. "I don't think anyone's ever offered to draw me before. Or called me a battle angel, for that matter. Or an angel anything else."

Devyn opened her eyes to find herself in a dark room. Everything was pitch black and she was unable to see so much as her hand in front of her face. Feeling around her with her hands, she realized that she was on a soft pillowee surface. She felt no hint of fear, although she could not remember where she was nor how she had gotten there.
Devyn carefully got to her feet and set her hand down onto the surface she had been lying on. It was approximately waist height and, after carefully walking around its edges, she came to the conclusion that it seemed to fit the rough dimensions of a bed. There didn't appear to be anything in the way of blankets or pillows upon the bed, however.
Taking a step away from the bed, Devyn did another careful walk around, trying to discover, by feel alone, what was in her immediate area. Her first lap around the bed resulted in nothing but smooth, flat floor underneath her feet. She wasn't wearing any shoes and the floor was slightly rough and could to the touch. A second, wider lap around the bed resulted in bumping into a small table. Feeling around on top of the table, she found a match box and a candle and proceeded to light the candle with one of the matches from within the box.

By now Skydancer was used to people staring at her. How could she not be, when she had rather obviously purple skin? Sure, it was possible to hide her skin with excessive application of makeup, but usually she didn't even bother. Finally, after many months of fighting it, she was starting to come to an acceptance of the way she was, purple skin and all so unless there was some exceptional circumstance, it just wasn't worth it to hide it.
"Sorry for choosing your balcony to rest on," Skydancer replied. At least the guy didn't seem too mad at her nor did he seem to care too much about the whole mutant thing, aside from a bit of curious staring, that is. She took that as a very good sign.
"I guess you probably don't get too many mutants camping out on your balcony, do you?" Skydancer asked with a light laugh. "I'm Skydancer, by the way." She may as well be polite and make the best of a somewhat weird and awkward situation.

"That I am," Anise agreed with a smile. The smile couldn't exactly be described as warm but it certainly wasn't hostile and, for the time being, Skydancer took that as a good sign. The struggle was going to be gaining acceptance with this new family and the key to that, or so she believed, was going to be proving herself. It was the same, all those many years ago, when she had first starting picking up gymnastics. None of the veterans were willing to fully accept the new kid in town until that new kid proved she had what it took to actually seriously compete. This might have been a little different, but the philosophy was the same.
"Let me show you around." Anise turned her back on Skydancer, black hair waving from side to side. Skydancer followed, taking in the sights and sounds of the training facility. It wasn't like any gym she had been in previously, although she could see that was essentially what it was. Everything was specifically designed to further one's skills in acrobatics, from the height of the ceiling to the equipment arrayed throughout. The actual people, male and female alike, completed the image as something truly wondrous.
"This is incredibly impressive." A touch of awe was in Skydancer's voice as she spoke and Anise nodded her acknowledgement of the statement. As the tour of the facility progressed, Anise carried herself in a professional manner just a touch south of being warm. Skydancer would gain her respect, that much she was determined to do, although whether or not her new trainer liked her was far less of a concern. Respect came first, liking would either follow or it woudln't. It was difficult to excel, however, without the respect of one's coach.
