The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"We have X-Men on my earth too." It was going to prove interesting learning about the similarities and differences between the two earths. She'd not had much interaction with her own earth's X-men given her association with Aura and therefore kind of being on the opposite side of the fight. From everything she'd heard, however, it sounded like they did good work even if their philosophy was a tad naive sometimes. Survival of the strong was something that applied even if it wasn't always the most desirable. At their core, mutants and humans were just very special animals and still influenced by baser animal instincts. Still, it would be good to have someone with the experience to deal with whatever the hell was going on.
Sirens could be heard in the background as well as loud bangs that sounded suspiciously like gunshots. In a chaotic situation like this, was it any surprise that people might be shooting at one another? Chaos and anarchy always lead to violence and theft and she'd be surprised if this situation were any different. She felt no desire for others to be hurt, but she didn't feel much grief towards the situation either. People got hurt and died, it was all a party of being alive. Hopefully those she knew and loved remained safe.
"Going somewhere less exposed might be good. I don't mind if you give out my name." Why should she? It wasn't like her name was attached to anything especially bad. On her earth. Then again, if there were X-Men on both earths, did that mean there might also be duplicate people on both earths too? Was there another Amber living here? The thought elicited a barrage of confusing emotions, none of which she had time to process right then.
She nodded her ascent. "I can shrink. You might not want to watch." She knew her transformations to be disturbing things as bone and flesh warped and contorted as she became another creature. They were also horribly painful although blessedly short. Within a half a minute she became a Mecistotrachelos, a small prehistoric gliding lizard not much larger than a mouse. Once changed, she ran up to Benji, seeking a pocket she might safely hide in while they traveled. The shirt she'd been given remained in a crumpled heap on the ground.

After the physical exertion of dancing in the hot club, it felt good to be outside in the cool night air. Proper temperature regulation was important. "Oh, I don't smoke but thank you for the offer," she responded, waving the cigarette away. She had her vices but those were only for special occasions or raves. Cigarette smoke was a strong and unpleasant scent, especially given her enhanced sense of smell. The other woman was being polite about her habit, however, and that was appreciated.
"What about you? Been here before?"
"Afraid not. Not from around here." That was an understatement. Only weeks no one would have believed her had she said she was literally from another universe. Now, it was pretty common knowledge that a rift between worlds existed although it still felt like a pretty damn unusual reality. "So far, I like the vibe though." Of course, inside the club it was too dark to really see her unusual eyes or ears and she'd only just ventured outside, so that opinion could change in a flash. Still, it was a certain kind of person that was attracted to a certain kind of club and she'd found many accepting people in the scene back home. Maybe this world would be similar.
"I'm Ambrosia." She wanted to offer a hug but some people just didn't get casual hugging. What a shame. While Ambrosia liked to consider herself a good judge of people, others had accused her of being to quick to trust. It was probably true, but why think the worse of someone until they'd actually shown themselves to be bad?

Amber is another nocturnal dweller and has similar, although I think possibly somewhat less severe, issues with sunlight. PM me if interested in a thread.

I can throw Amber into the mix. Does Victoria still live at the Mansion? Zombiesaur meet vampire? I'm on temporary hiatus with my other two characters at the moment but still pretty active with Amber.

There was time to decide the direction of her future. Probably. If she was feeling optimistic about her chances of continuing the almost life she currently lead. And oddly enough, she did feel just a little bit optimistic.
Amber wasn't surprised that Gemma had an answer ready in hand for her question as it was unlikely she'd been the first one to ask that question nor was she likely to be the last. "I guess, in some ways, it must be just has hard to find out you're an adapted as it is to find out you're a mutant. It still kind of makes you a freak, right?" The use of the word 'freak' was a tricky one. Most 'normal' humans thought of mutants as freaks and some mutants embraced the term as something to be desired. Amber herself wasn't quite sure what she thought of the word, but in this case it seemed appropriate. "Or does being an adapted make you and ant-freak?" She offered a bemused smile, her tone of voice conveying that the questions wasn't entirely serious.

She laughed at the image of bears in central park. When you really thought about it, it was a horrible thing to do. Wild bears were dangerous and the humans who frequented the park were almost certainly not equipped to handle a wile bear. If left unchecked, they could maim and kill and probably worse than that. Of course, her sister wasn't likely to ever think of the innocent humans in the way of her hunting game and most mutants were likely to have a stronger chance against the bears than any of the humans were. "I'm sure she had her reasons for not approving of bears in the park."
"Organizations need both fighters and thinkers." These were the sorts of things that she'd been considering a lot recently. Did she want to just be another fighter? Another soldier in the war, just like her sister? She wasn't even sure she wanted to be a part of the war at all, let alone just another fighter. "And eventually we're going to win, right? When that happens, we'll definitely need people with other skills as well."
Amber had learned to take change in stride. The learning hadn't been easy, with the abandonment (and partial return) of her family and the jarring changes between the time she spent in the woods and the time she spent in the city, but learn she had. Change happened and it had to be dealt with. "We're never going to get Sanctuary back, but maybe this is an opportunity to make something different and better." So far it looked to be off to a good start.

(OOC: Using AV character Ambrosia)
IC: Ambrosia liked this new world. When the rift had first opened, she'd been one of the first people through. Well, maybe not one of the first first people, not one of the people that got dragged through, kicking and screaming (or so she imagined) that first night; but one of the first people who had gone willingly after that. Just as soon as it was confirmed to be a portal, of sorts, between worlds. Her world and this glorious other world, both similar and different from her own. With the mystery, intrigue and adventure lying just on the other side, how could she resist?
It had been weeks now, since that first tentative flight made to the other side and during those weeks she had made numerous forays through the rift. Her first few trips she'd flown in as a tiny dragon, just in case there was something dangerous waiting for her on the other side. However, as her number of trips increased, so too did her confidence. Really, this world wasn't any more dangerous than her home world and she wasn't at any greater risk as a human than she would be at home. Sadly, there still seemed to be some bias against mutants but she'd always been quite capable of taking care of herself. There was just something irresistible about exploring such a great unknown as a whole other universe that she couldn't seen to resist coming back again and again.
The next step in the adventure, she'd decided a short while ago, was to graduate from day trip to weekend trip. So, she rented herself a private room in a local hostel and made plans to go clubbing for the night. The room itself was small but clean although the exact size and shape didn't matter much as she didn't intend to spend much time there. In fact, she spent only enough time there to get her key, drop her bag and leave to find herself a night of adventure. Others might need actual companions to go out dancing, but not she!
Not knowing much about the local clubs, she entered the first one that caught her eye. The base was thumping and there were quite a few people around. As was often the case in her life, she stood out from the crowd, wearing what might be described as a mix between hippy and belly dancer. Her long skirt swished as she walked and she wore numerous bangles upon her wrists and around her neck. The first thing she did upon entering was order herself a drink before gliding out to the dance floor. It had been far too long!
For a time she danced, allowing the music to flow through through her and moving as it bade her. Once her drink was finished, she wandered outside to cool down. While she didn't smoke (dirty habit, but she wasn't one to judge), she'd often found being outside among those who did to be the best place to meet people. Sitting down at a nearby mostly empty table, she offered a broad smile to the woman sitting across from her a shaved head. "And how are you this fine evening?" Her voice was cheery and her expression inviting.

This was definitely the life. Here she was, sunbathing on the beach, eating mango slices and talking to a curious young man doing the same. It would have been a lot less pleasant had he been less accepting of tiny talking dragons, but who really, who wouldn't fall under to enchanting and adorable spell? Enchant and delight was what she did!
"Yup, right through the portal," she agreed, taking another mango slice. "I meant to return home when it was still night but kind of fell asleep. It's a little public for a dragon to be flying around, so I came here instead." She offered a toothy, cheeky grin. Time management had never been her strongest trait.
"So how about you, what's your story? You don't seem especially bothered by the presence of a mutant." That trait was far from a given even when confronted with cute.

If nothing else, it seemed like Benji had some sense when it came to dealing with unusual situations. He didn't panic and began formulating a game plan, which was something she could appreciate and respect. From experience, she knew not everyone would be some calm minded when confronted with the seemingly impossible. Hell, her first reaction hadn't been entirely rational although she was feeling more mentally in control now. So what if she was in some sort of strange alternate universe which may or may not have a path back home; she was alive and physically whole which meant she could work on a solution. Not to mention learn about the place she'd ended up in and, now that some of the initial panic had dissipated, seemed like the start of a fascinating adventure. Who knew, maybe this place was the mutant paradise her sister Aura had always striven for.
She nodded at the suggestion of the motorcycle. "If you have an extra helmet I can ride behind you. If not, I can change into something small enough to fit in a pocket." Dinosaurs had a reputation for being large, lumbering beasts but that reputation wasn't entirely accurate. There were just as many small, sleek dinosaurs as large ones and she wasn't, strictly speaking, limited to just dinosaurs. The era in which her different forms came from was just as varied as the present world and so too were her potential variety of forms.
When Benji walked a few feet away to make his call, it was frustrating to not be able to hear the entire conversation. In almost any of her other forms the few feet of distance wouldn't have been an issue but, as always, her human body possessed inadequate human senses. She caught bits and pieces about 'another world' and the 'eclipse' but couldn't make out the the full conversation. It wasn't that she didn't trust him; so far he'd been nothing but helpful, but life had taught her that caution was often warranted and knowledge was always worth having.
"So, where to from here?" she asked once he'd returned from his conversation.
So, Gemma had a positive association with Devon as well. That had to be considered another positive mark. Maybe her worries had been simple paranoia. Still, how could she do anything but make sure things were on the up and up considering her long association with the place? Just because they were proving to be false this time didn't mean their presence was entirely without merit.
"Not telepathic," she answered. The words' thinking of her' did not always imply good things when it came to her dear sister. Aura had a reputation for violence, blood and fanatical mutant supremacy and as much as she adored her sister, she knew her reputation to be warranted. More than warranted. 'Blood' and 'violence' were probably the two most common adjectives when it came to Aura. With the word 'monster' not being far behind. Of course, most who chose to use such words didn't know the woman and didn't have any interest in knowing the woman. Reputation was enough to warrant judgement, no matter how harsh.
"She's doing well. I can let her know that you're still interested in speaking with her, if you like." A pause for thought. "Do you...know about who she is? What she's done?" Hard to imagine he didn't. "Do you adhere to her philosophy as well?" She set her unsettling black eyes upon his.

So the disappearances were going both ways and teleportation sounded like the right word for her. One moment she was somewhere familiar and the next moment she was...not. What better word than teleportation? Portal, maybe? Teleportation portal? "Blue box," she asked, confused and coming out of her own thoughts. While she did her best to balance the two sides of herself, dino and human, neither pop culture nor television were high up on the list of things to learn about.
"I think maybe I went through some kind of portal or something. Everything around is similar but different. Different colours, different locations, slightly different shapes. It's almost like wherever this is is a slightly distorted mirror world or something." Surely that didn't even make sense, but what else was she to believe? So far she hadn't heard any better ideas.
At least he had an idea about someone who might be able to help. "Anyone with possible insight should probably be called," she agreed. Maybe someone had a better idea than her what the hell had just happened and where the hell she now was. "I'm Amber. So, I take it you might have some idea where to go from here?"
