The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She could see the confusion and his face and didn't blame him. She was still struggling with the idea herself and she'd at least had the advantage of going to the other world knowingly. Not voluntarily, mind you, but at least she'd been aware of something dramatic happening and she'd eventually managed to get herself back home again. She could only imagine what it must be like to suddenly wake up to the realization that everything you knew and everyone you loved was literally on another world.
"The timeline sounds about right," she responded thoughtfully. "The eclipse is when it first opened. I, um, I think it's stable. You could try to just go through it again, probably." Or in so trying be torn into a million molecular shreds. That was also a possibility. Probably not a large one since she'd gone through fine twice but also not a zero one.

Even as she'd begun to feel more at home among humanity, it was impossible to escape certain things about her nature. The most obvious, of course, was that she was a walking corpse who couldn't stand the direct touch of the sun without burning and blistering painfully. Mutants, some of the most tolerant ones at least, might be able to accept her as she was, but that was a lot to swallow for most mere humans. That, however, wasn't the greatest of her problem. Even many saw her as a monster, she didn't need their approval and, for all her morose and withdrawn nature, she didn't lack in self esteem. No, her greater struggles revolved around the balancing of her dino and human natures.
Before her most recent foray into the woods, Amber couldn't remember feeling claustrophobic, but after her return she most certainly did. It wasn't closed in spaces, per say, but rather brick and stone and wood walls and ceilings around her, especially as she slept. There was just something that felt unnatural and unwanted about it. What if an enemy approached and she needed to leave quickly? Living at the Mansion that was likely a foolish and unlikely thought, but she'd learned to always be on guard because sometimes danger came from unexpected places. Rational or not, it wasn't a feeling easily discarded and sleeping with the window open only went so far in assuaging it.
Beyond that, lately she'd began to feel a claustrophobia of a different sort, a need to get away from the throngs of people always about, not only in the Mansion itself but also in the city as a whole. More and more she'd left the Mansion grounds to shift and find a park to sleep in and, even when remaining on the property, she'd begun spending ever more time outside. It felt like the two sides of her were warring with one another an that war was coming to a head. Instead of waiting for that proverbial explosion and breakdown, she made the choice to leave the city entirely. Not for months or years at a time like she had last time, but for a few days or a couple of weeks. Camping, some might call it, except without the need for a tent, food or supplies. The joys of being a mutant who could transform into creatures that could survive with skill and finesse anywhere she decided to go.

Since Amber's return to the city, she'd made a lot of progress. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt so comfortable living in her human body among her fellow mutants, if ever. If she still didn't quite feel like one of them, she no longer felt like something entirely foreign. During her many long years spent living in the woods she'd almost forgotten what it was to be human. There, survival was the primary priority and it was easy to simply let go and give into the instincts of the creatures that lived within her. Unlike some shapeshifters, those instincts were mostly buried deep and easy to control , but that didn't mean they didn't exist. It was easier, in so many ways, to live as a predator in nature; easier and simpler.
The human world required a lot more than food and shelter. Maybe it was speech that complicated things or maybe there was just something inherently complicated about humans and their nature, but they came with what sometimes felt like an infanent number of social rules and guidelines that often didn't make any inherent sense at all. The need for clothing and modesty was one of the ones that baffled her the most, especially in warm climates. Clothing for warmth she understood and had once required herself, but what about during hot summer days? Modesty was the reason. It wasn't right to walk around naked, apparently. Baffling and only one baffling thing among a barrage of baffling things. How to talk, how to walk, where to look, how far to stand, all of these things and more served to complicate interaction. It hurt her brain.
Even with such endless challenges, she'd finally started to reintegrate. Maybe she'd never be an expert at human behavior but at least now she was starting to learn and re-learn the most important rules and with each thing learned, she felt more comfortable and more at home. For all the peace of being a wild beast, the loneliness was worse than almost anything else and it was that loneliness that had compelled her back into the human world. Despite everything, it was a choice she didn't regret making. She was, after all, human just as much as she was dino.

Amber didn't lack in self confidence, not really. She wasn't ashamed to be who and what she was and she knew herself to be more than capable when it came to survival. Literal years spent living alone in the wilds made it quite apparent that she had survival skills in droves. For all her physical skills and a reasonable collection of mental skills to go with them, however, social skills were another matter. Humans and mutants alike were often puzzling to her with their many social rules and foibles which often made little to know sense. Partly because of her lack of understanding, she remained reserved and quiet, mostly content to remain in the background.
"I'm being serious but if I hadn't been there myself, I would probably also disbelieve. It is pretty amazing, isn't it?" She offered a smile at his little joke. Lying was one of those human social skills she'd never really learned. "I still don't really know what to think of it all. Do you have any idea how you might have ended up here, if you did actually come from the other world?" It was quite the mystery.

"Sushi?" she asked, a little taken aback by the blunt question. It took only a moment to collect her thoughts. "I do." Sushi was good, sushi was a food she could always eat without having to worry about getting sick because of nasty preservatives and artificial chemicals. Sometimes it could be a challenge to find things that were safe for consumption.
The other girl continued, suggesting that she was looking for a sushi partner. Or salmon. Or something equally fish related. "Oh, I don't think I've ever been invited out for dinner before." Because she was a socially awkward, sometimes morose undead dinosaur girl. People such as her didn't get invited out at all, really. At least, not for social reasons and not outside Mansion grounds. Well, except maybe her sister Aura but she didn't really count since her sister was even more socially awkward than she was. However, the liked the thought of being invited out and even better when the 'my treat' was added to the end since she didn't really have any money to speak of. Everything she owned was either provided by those who ran the Mansion and much of her food she hunted for herself. "I would love to go out and find some sushi with you although I don't know where we'd go at this time of night."
"We're not supposed to go out alone at night?" Well, that was new. Of course, she was technically and adult so that rule probably didn't technically apply to her but she couldn't remember ever being aware of the rule back when she had been a teenager. Maybe the rules had changed? Or, more likely, maybe she'd just decided she didn't like that rule and conveniently forgotten it. "We're not supposed to kill people either," she offered helpfully; that was a rule she definitely did remember. "I'm Amber. Nice to meet you. Those robots are terrible"

The myth of dragons was probably birthed out of the discovery of giant dinosaur bones and why not? A dragon might well have been a dinosaur with a few tweaks here and there. Of course, no dinosaur could blow fire (that she'd ever encountered, anyway), but humans liked to embellish certain things and impart certain supernatural traits where they could. She wasn't entirely certain what a dragon girl had to do with her, but she had to admit that dragons were pretty cool. She offered a thumbs up in return although the gesture was somewhat awkward and she couldn't quite place why the mention of a dragon girl disturbed her slightly.
At the mention of when the memory issues started, certain things began to fall into place within her mind. "A few weeks ago I fell into a rift between worlds." Her words were tentative as she was unsure if her own experiences were actually related, but it was at least a place to start. "There's a whole separate universe out there. There are X-Men there just like there are X-Men here. Everything is kind of the same but also different. Is it possible that you might have accidentally fallen through the rift too? It might explain why so many don't seem to know you anymore and why people think you're acting so strange lately." It was hard to imagine falling through the rift and not realizing it; her own trip had been rather dramatic, but anything was possible. The implications were disturbing. If there were two versions of Manti there were probably two versions of other people as well. Including her. That was an uncomfortable though.

Amber rarely slept at night, which wasn't to say that she rarely slept. If anything, she likely slept more and better than many. Sunlight, however, had always been dangerous for her to be around, at least while in human form. The sun burned her sensitive skin and when she did go outside during the daylight hours it was only while covered head to tow with fabric and only for short periods of time. Well, either that or go out as a dinosaur which, while lacking any of her human weaknesses, had it's own problems. Problems mainly involving terrifying innocent by-standards who weren't exactly used to having zombie dinosaurs running around. As a result, the night was her time.
It wasn't too late when she wandered out of her own room in search of something to do, early enough that there were still a handful of students wandering the halls. It might have been too late to do anything interesting. Somewhat claustrophobic and more than a little socially awkward, she'd been trying to work on her anti-social tendencies. She'd all ready done the whole living as a hermit dinosaur in the woods thing. Twice. In the short term it may have had it's perks, but long term it just didn't work. At all. Crushing loneliness had compelled her back into civilization and, for all that she was back among other mutants, loneliness was something she still struggled with. Go make some friends, Ghost might have said, but how exactly did one go about doing so? That was a very good question.
Turning a corner, she came across a young red head who seemed to be on a mission. She smiled, fearing it probably came across more as creepy than welcoming. "Hi. You seem busy at this late time of night." Awkward. Painfully awkward. Maybe she should just run back into the woods and continue hermiting after all.

"I'm the dinosaur girl." She looked at his expression, trying to glean a bit of recognition. In her human form, she knew she was unique. How many corpse girls could there be, after all? Certainly none other that she'd had the opportunity to meet. In her other forms, she was even more recognizable. Most of the reaction she'd gotten when she'd displayed her powers ranged from terror to excitement to some combination of both. Dinosaurs, generally speaking, were considered pretty awesome, or so she'd gleaned. Either way, a walking, breathing dinosaur wasn't something that was likely to be forgotten easily.
She wasn't the best judge of tone of voice or body language, but even she managed to glean that he seemed maybe even more confused about this whole memory loss thing as she was. Understandable; she had nearly a year of lost memories when she was was trapped in the Brazilian rain forest as a deninonychus. Blank spots in your memory were scary things. She still didn't' know how many she'd hurt or killed during that time and would never be completely comfortable with that lack of knowing.
"When did it change? I mean, when did people stop knowing you?" she asked, concern in her voice. Maybe with more information she might be able to help.

It sounded almost like Leon was going to call her by another name but then he stopped himself. Maybe he'd forgotten her name; not really that surprising. They'd only only met once, after all, and she hadn't exactly been at her best during that meeting. But then he suggested that he thought she was someone else and introduced himself by a different name. Not only that, but he was acting very different than the first time they had met. Had she just encountered him on a bad day? He certainly looked the same and his scent was the same too. Or was it? Had there been something just slightly off about it? In her current form, limited as it was by her weak human senses, she couldn't be sure.
Since Manti no longer seemed concerned about human touch, she wasn't concerned either. Remember the warning about the poisonous barbs, she walked closer and took the offered hand, careful to only touch the skin she was pretty sure was safe. She offered a toothy grin in return, all be it once presently lacking in meat-cutting incisors that were present in so many of her other forms. "I don't usually bite either." Not while human at least. And not normally unless she was hungry or angry.
"You're acting very different than when I last saw you." The words were spoken bluntly and directly. Finesse was not one of her skills.

Since the first time she had chosen to visit it, Amber had taken a liking to the hedge maze. It was a place to escape the business and chaos that often existed within the walls of the Mansion. It was a place she could get out and think, a place that was natural even if it was a tamed sort of natural. It was also a place she could safely transform without having to worry about scaring anyone or being mobbed in the street. Both those things she'd had experience with and both were most decidedly better avoided.
Lately, Amber had a lot to think about, especially after her unexpected foray into the other universe. That there was a whole other universe was shocking, to say the least. The question of whether that also meant there was a whole other her was a confusing one to ponder that elicited a barrage of hard to describe emotions. She'd been out there since dawn in her deinychus form, mostly sunbathing and switching between sunbathing and napping. It wasn't a bad way to spend an afternoon, all things considered. Dusk was now coming, however, and hunger helped her decide that it was time to re-enter civilization.
Trotting along to where she'd stashed her robes, a vaguely familiar scent floated out to her. What was his name? Leon? She'd only met him once and felt she'd left a very bad impression. Maybe now might be an opportunity to change that. Changing back into her human form, she put her robes back on and walked into the open. It wasn't quite dark yet but the sun's dangerous ways had been blunted enough to not be much of a concern. Spotting him not far from her, she called out. "Hello? I'm not sure if you remember me, but we met a few weeks ago. I'm Amber." Remembering that he seemed to have some issues with people getting too close, she kept a healthy distance between them, not approaching closer than she hoped he'd be comfortable with.
Amber smiled back. It was easy to feel at ease with Devon. Aura would probably tell her not to drop her guard because anyone could be dangerous. Experience had taught her that danger sometimes came from unexpected quarters. Still, it was exhausting to remain on edge all the time. Life for her was hard enough having to balance the different aspects of self without also having to constantly question the motives of everyone around her. For all that she'd gone through during her short life, she hadn't become jaded to the people around her. Antisocial and sometimes uncomfortable with social interaction without a doubt, but never jaded.
"I know some of the people in her passed really messed with her head, but she's always been steadfast in pursing what she believed in." Single minded and obsessed might be appropriate words as well. "I think maybe I sometimes help balance that. I don't hate humans like she does. I don't think I seek a ruling mutant order." Although that was a confusing topic. She wanted to follow her sister and believe in what her sister believed in because she was her only remaining pack. But did she really? That was a more difficult question. She didn't necessarily feel a great love towards humans; they were often weak and foolish and in the wild her teeth and claws could kill them easily. She didn't feel any animosity towards them, however. Or at least, not towards the ones who didn't deserve it.
The words Devon spoke felt more in line with her own beliefs than any other words she'd heard. The X-Men were often naive and seemed to want something that was destined never to occur. At her core, her affiliation with the Order had always had more to do with her father and sister than it did with any true conviction she'd had with their ideals. She fought because her pack required it, not because she held that passion. In many ways mutants were better because they were stronger but why the need to try and dominate lesser creatures, if indeed humans were that? Were there more than two options?
"I want to help my people. I don't want to kill humans to do it." She would if necessary. She had in the past. It wasn't something she was ashamed of, but nor was it something to be proud of. It was what it was. Death was a part of life. She was a predator and killing was a part of being alive. "I try to help Aura understand things beyond fighting and killing. Things about living in the greater world." Funny, in a way, coming from her who often struggled with the real world as well and especially the social aspects. Next to her sister, however, she was almost an expert. She took a sip of water, deep in thought.

Alas, there was no offer of a greeting hug and Ambrosia was good enough at reading body language to know that Sam probably wasn't the type to just casually hug strangers. A little disappointing, perhaps, but these were not the sorts of things one should ever push. Consent was a beautiful thing that should never be ignored.
"Or something," she responded with an airy laugh. "More of a long weekend than a vacation. Vacations cost money and retail does not make a lot of it." A little it of a grimace, but her tone of voice made it clear it wasn't something she was too worried about. "Where are you from? How are you liking it here?" Of course, the questions were likely to open up questions of their own and it was still a little tricky to explain the whole alternate universes thing, even if all evidence suggested it to be true. Gods knew, there were still people out there that believed the earth was flat, so what was a little alternative universe evidence when confronted with that kind of ignorance? Or maybe that type of crazy had always believed in alternate universes and the rift was just support of the conspiracy. If that was true, did that mean they were right about the earth being flat too? Even to think about it hurt her brain.
"Definitely an adventurer. I tried to get some friends to come with me but sometimes that's a little easier said than done. No sense of adventure." She shook her head in mock dismay. It would have been great to have brought a couple of her besties with her, but there was no denying that she was having a blast here on her own. She noticed the way the other woman watched the people around them but didn't make a comment on it. Neither caution nor common sense were here strong suites but, especially in a busy club, it wasn't a bad thing to remain aware of one's surroundings. She rarely allowed herself to become too intoxicated but even completely sober she'd been known to get herself into trouble from time to time by doing or saying something dumb without thinking about it. "Do you travel alone often?"
