Character
Personality: Micah is friendly and nerdy, and a little bit awkward. He likes making friends and meeting new people, but can also be really insecure when it comes to social situations. He rambles and mutters a little too much, but if you manage to follow everything he says he’s really quite charming and funny in his own sort of “could probably use medication” kind of way. You’d be lucky to have him as a friend, because once he learns to relax around you he’ll stay with you till the end. And while Micah is a super-genius, he rarely acts like one. Instead, he comes across as merely clever, witty, and resourceful. Hobbies/ Interests: Avid reader, secretly plays Pokémon a lot more than he should, Loves to teach and tutor others Job or part time job and description: (if applicable) Worked at a library before his mutation occurred, previously attended NYU to become an English Teacher Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Micah worries that his strange powers will stop him from ever being taken seriously as a force of good. He’ll have to prove to both his fellow mutants and himself that he’s a force to be reckoned with. Special talents: (not related to mutation) Micah ran track in high school and college, so he’s pretty fast with good reflexes.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Too good. Micah hates doing anything that could possibly be against the rules. It makes him sort of panicky, but that doesn’t stop him from being there for people.
Mutations
Mutation Description In short…
Since Micah’s mutation activated, Micah’s real brain has been replaced with 333 Marbles which are held where is human brain used to be. The marbles serve the function of regular neurons; controlling behavior, memories, and thinking. These marbles glow with psychic light. His unique brain structure comes with unique benefits and disadvantages.
Mutation Description In not short…
Micah’s mind was always genetically predetermined to take a superhuman mutant form. However, just as the Lodgepole Pine needs fire in order to germinate its seed, Micah’s brain needed a traumatic event to force it into radical evolution. Had Micah experienced a head trauma as a younger man, his mutant brain would have perhaps mutated normally, turning his brain into the most perfect mind on the planet. Paradoxically, Micah was never lucky enough to have experienced head trauma serious enough to trigger his X-Gene’s activation. So Micah grew older, and remained human past the normal teenage years of mutant manifestation. Like a bomb that doesn’t detonate properly, Micah’s X-Gene started decaying once its activation was delayed, causing the gene to behave erratically. In a desperate attempt to maintain the proper timeline of manifesting his mutant powers, his X-gene attempted to accommodate for the delayed trauma by weakening Micah’s skull to make it more susceptible to trauma, even going as far as creating passages in his nose and ears to aid foreign invaders. As a desperate last attempt, his genes even began to influence him to partake in dangerous behaviors that would threaten the safety of his brain. Despite all this, Micah’s gene wouldn’t get the trauma it needed until he was twenty years old when finally, by inducing the urge to stick a marble so far up his nose it killed his brain, his mind was finally destroyed.
His mind took advantage of the marble’s glass structure by mimicking it and converting all of his neurons into marbles, and turned all of his thoughts, memories, and skills into psychic light to be stored in the marbles. Because of this, Micah’s marbles glow slightly. The glow is his thoughts, and the marbles communicate with each other through light. While Micah’s mutation was generally successful, the delay caused his mutation to be flawed. The weakened defenses in his cranium still persist, and while the tunnel to his nose is still blocked by the original marble, the tunnels in his ears remain open and can cause his marbles to shoot out during impacts.
Strengths: Micah no longer “learns” as much as he psychically records memories onto his marbles. This allows for a much faster rate of learning. More often than not, he can memorize any information after seeing it just once or twice, depending on how complex the information is.
Like a normal human brain, Micha’s brain has a nearly limitless capacity to learn and hold information. The advantage of his marble brain is that he can access stored information he has learned much faster and far more efficiently than a normal human.
Micah also possesses a very high level of resistance to telepathic manipulation, since normal telepathy is meant to target minds made out of neurons, not glass marbles. He is also undetectable by Cerebra.
Only one marble in Micah’s brain is resistant to falling out (see below for more details on how he “loses his marbles”), and that is the original marble Micah accidentally lodged in his brain. It’s stuck in his cranium pretty tightly, and because of this Micah’s mind stores most of his involuntary bodily functions on this marble so that if his other marbles fall out, even if he is otherwise incapacitated his brain still has this one critical marble to maintain basic bodily functions such as breathing and pumping his heart.
Weaknesses:
Moderate/heavy impacts to Micah’s head (including violent sneezing) causes the marbles to fall out his ears. He can lose anywhere from 1 to 3 marbles per impact. Without the marbles inside his head, Micah cannot access any information recorded on those marbles. Normally, if only a handful of marbles fall out, he can put them back in himself, but if too many marbles fall out he is incapacitated. (He hopefully has a good friend nearby who will put them back in his ears where they belong).
Here’s a breakdown of the number of marbles lost/the effect on Micah
1-5 Marbles = Minor Headache 5-10= Moderate Headache 10-15= Severe Headache 15-30= Unbearable Mental Pain 30- 322= Incapacitated 333= Dead
Micah’s marbles have a glow that diminishes when the marbles are outside his brain. After three hours of being outside his mind, the marble fades completely, resulting in the loss of the information stored on the marble. While Micah can put the marble back in his brain to be used again, he can never recover the lost information. He must relearn it again.
Micah cannot record memories on “normal” marbles. The only marbles he can use to store memories on are the 332 that were created during the advent of his mutation plus the original marble that got lodged in his brain.
Micah’s body also cannot create more marbles to use. He is limited by the ones created at the onset of his mutation.
While Micah also avoids malicious telepathic manipulation because of his unique brain, he is also immune to good telepathy, such as telepathic communication among his friends.
Micah’s brain is not compatible with Cerebra and Micah cannot use it to locate mutants. His brain structure is too unique and inhuman.
While Micah can learn rapidly, developing a skill’s usage still takes time. For example, he can memorize every move in Taekwondo overnight, but it would take weeks of training to turn him into a skilled fighter.
Micah is highly vulnerable to mutants with psychometry, or the ability to read psychic imprints left on objects. His mind is nothing but objects with psychic imprints, so a mutant with psychometry could access his every thought/memory with relative ease.
Micah is also highly vulnerable to the effects of the Adapteds. His mind only functions because of his Mutant power, so anyone who nullifies his powers also nullifies his entire mind. Micah begins losing consciousness the moment he enters an Adapted’s sphere of influence. Within 1-2 minutes, Micah enters a completely catatonic state. His brain isn’t destroyed or damaged permanently, but it also can’t function in this state except to keep his basic bodily functions working. Micah can only regain consciousness after he is outside an Adapted’s range for another 1-2 minutes.
Special Note: Mutants with power-stealing abilities have an effect on Micah similar to that of an Adapted, but as a very general rule the effect is to a lesser extent. Micah begins to feel numb and it becomes harder to think as his power is depleted, but overall the exact effects on Micah will vary depending on the strength of the mutant who is stealing his powers.
Secondary mutation description: none as of now
Fighting Style Right now, Micah can only use his wits to get out of potentially violent situations. If that doesn’t work, he runs. (though he’ll hopefully become a better fighter as time goes on) Explanation: Micah knows much more about running than fighting Pros for fighting style: It can get you out of tight situations Cons for fighting style: The villains laugh at you.
Faction Allegiance The X-men/ The Order/ The Kabal/ Other/ Unaffiliated Unaffiliated as of now, but very interested in becoming one of the good guys.
History Of Your Character: Before the mutant craziness of his life, Micah lived a normal life. Raised by two loving moms named Nancy and Cheryl, he succeeded in school by studying and working hard. He was never exceedingly popular due to his sometimes crippling awkwardness, but those who knew him loved him a lot. And then his mutation happened. Micah was watching Wolf News, and decided sticking a marble up his nose would suck less and possibly be more enlightening. He had never, after all, had the childhood experience of sticking a marble up his nose, and was curious about what would happen.
Well, as they say, curiosity killed the cat. In the middle of Micah’s attempt to reclaim a childhood memory, he sneezed violently, lodging the marble in his brain and destroying all brain activity. His brain responded by activating his x-gene, which decided that the best solution was to simply replace all brain activity with neurons that mimicked the composition of the invasive marble. (Note: this is the story of Micah’s mutation as he knows it. For a more detailed account that he himself is not aware of, see the above section titled: Mutation Description In not short…)
Micah was unaware that his body had radically changed. He woke up, remembering his escapade with the marble, but not remembering the violent brain-death that had resulted, and not really remembering why sticking a marble in his nose felt like such a good idea in the first place. He was upset that the marble couldn’t be found (what if it was still in his nose?) , but was more upset by the fact Wolf News was still playing in the background.
Still unaware that his mutant power had activated, Micah went to work in the local library. At first everything seemed normal, but then he realized his head felt strange, and he heard the clattering noise of marbles whenever he moved his neck. The final straw was when he sneezed and a glowing marble flew out of his ear and it wasn’t even the one he stuck in his nose. The rest of that story is recounted in the sample roleplay.

The doctor gave him a cold look. “Is this a joke, Mr. Bennington?”
“No.” Micah squirmed uncomfortably. He always felt like doctors knew he was lying, even when he wasn’t.
She pulled out an x-ray of Micah’s skull. “So let me get this straight. You came to the hospital because…”
“…because I put, well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, for whatever reason. I mean, lots of kids put marbles in their noses and I never got the chance to try and-“
“You are hardly a child Mr. Bennington. But given your recent adventure with this “marble” you claim to have inserted in your nose, it’s a wonder your parents let you stay at home alone. Who knows what you’ll stick where.”
“That isn’t, that’s not very nice. You really should be nicer to your patien-“
“Please do not interrupt me Mr. Bennington.”
“Sorry ma’am.”
She turned again to the x-ray, the scrunched her forehead and put her glasses down. “Micah, how many marbles did you stick in your nose?”
“Just one. More than that would’ve been pretty stupid.”
“ ‘Just one’ was already pretty stupid.”
“Touché”
“But you’re certain it was just one?”
“Well, yeah. I think I would’ve remembered sticking more up my nose.”
She sighed and took a swig from her coffee. “Well good news. I think I can explain where the other marble came from, and maybe even that splitting headache you have.” She passed the x-ray to Micah. “Now, I’m an experienced Doctor, which basically means I’ve been practicing medicine for longer than you’ve been alive. So while I normally wouldn’t expect a patient to be able to examine his own x-ray, I think even an English major like you can understand this.”
Micah looked at the x-ray. “Whose brain is this?”
“Yours.”
He shook his head and tried to hand her back the x-ray. “No, this can’t be me. This person has a brain full of marbles.”
“And how do you know your brain isn’t full of marbles?”
“Because then I’d be dead. You can’t live without a brain.” “And yet, here you are.”
Micah thought, then examined the x-ray again. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the silvery blue marble that had fallen out of his ear earlier when he sneezed. It had been a brilliant glowing blue when it first came out, but he noticed its shine had dimmed since he first discovered it. “So this came from inside my skull?”
“Yes, and I’m no expert on Mutants, but I bet the reason you have such a splitting headache is because part of your brain is in your hand. That’s enough to give anyone a headache.”
“I’m a mutant?”
“Either that or you’re just a regular human who survived having his brain replaced with glassware.”
“Well, I, er, suppose that adaptive mutations aren’t entirely unheard of. I mean, look at how bacteria have adapted to resist penicillin. Maybe my brain adapted to the foreign intruder by mimicking it and then finding a way to use the glassware as a new type of neurological medium.”
“Yes and, while that’s very interesting, it means there’s nothing else I can do for you. You’d have better luck seeking out some freak doctor to look at your freak brain.”
“What about my headache?”
“Hmmmm. Normally I wouldn’t risk further damaging a patient’s brain, but all things considered I doubt there’s more damage I can do to you than you’ve done to yourself. Give me that marble that fell out earlier.”
Micah handed her the marble. The doctor grabbed his head. “Which ear did this come from?”
“Um, my right one why do you ask, wait, what are you OW MARY MOTHER OF JESUS!”
Micah’s ear stung. “What did you do that for?”
“Well, I figured that if it came out your ear I could put it back in.”
“You figured? You took an educated guess and shoved a marble in my ear?”
“Well, yes.”
“You’re crazy!”
“Probably, but you shoved a marble in your nose. You have no room to judge.”
“You could’ve destroyed my ear!”
“But how do you feel?”
“My ear hurts!”
“Yes, but how does your head feel, numbnuts?”
“My head? My head feels… fine. Actually, it feels… amazing.”
“Yes, well, now that all your marbles are back in your head, I thought you might.”
Micah stood up. “I’m leaving now, before you shove anything else inside of me.”
“You aren’t my type sweetheart.”
Micah left the office, grabbing the x-ray of his brain as he walked out. He looked down at the x-ray again, still hoping it was all some sort of dumb, bad joke. Was his brain really full of marbles? What the h*ll kind of mutant power was that?
