The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

I have been on and off lately, so I might as well post here: with all the job hunting and vacation coming up and more frequent visits home I probably will be gone for a while. I will log on from time to time and keep up with the few threads I am in, but posting and on-line time will be reduced to sporadic or nonexistent in the next few weeks. I'll be back after the end of summer once life is more or less settled.
Lily sat down onto a chair that miraculously appeared in the moment she stepped away from the proceedings, and watched Carrick with a smile. Her presence was the guarantee that they would treat him like any other customer, or maybe better. She knew that not everyone likes mutants, but in places like that, money cam before genetics. She suspected that Carrick would want to pay for his own clothes. She'd settle that later. Once they left Carrick alone for a few moments, she allowed herself a bright smile. "Relax and enjoy, Carrick" she chuckled "It'll be over soon. I know it is not comfortable, but everyone has to suffer through things like this if they want to look dashing at a dance..." she watched people return with the chosen clothes and nodded "I like that one too." Once they were done with the gryphon boy, Jewel took matters into her own hands. Everyone was very polite to her, as she arranged for the suit to be modified to the wings and the tail, as soon as possible, and paid for when it was ready. Then she turned back to Carrick with another bright smile. "I think we are all done here for now. Let's go find the rest of the things you need."
He agreed. Lily was content with that for the moment. They would think about it more, and talk about it some more, and come up with plans and solutions, and work on the problem till he rgeained his powers. It would take time and effort, and lots of hours in the danger room. But for now, he was not giving up hope, and it was all she needed to know. She was quiet for a few moments, thinking about options and what not. They could head back inside to the dance, and join the others once again. There was a party going on, with all the students, and music, and dancing, and drinks. Then again, they'd just agreed minutes ago it was better to be away from that. Especially for Shawn. "Or what." Lily decided, smiling up at him playfully, before she turned around and headed back to the building, pulling him along by the hand.
"I know. I'm sure I'll get it back. It's just a matter of time. And that's something one thing I don't want to do is wait." "That's the spirit" Lily smiled, and returned the kiss "I am sure you'll find a way" she added, resting her forehead against his "It might need a lot of work, and time, but..." she chuckled as he thanked her for being supportive. That was what girlfriends did, right? She had never been a girlfriend before, but she had been a friend, and she had a pretty good idea how to comfort people. "I will help you as much as I can" she promised and she hugged him "But, not tonight. Tonight is for... well, it's for the students to party, and for us to not worry about it." she giggled, leaning up to kiss him again "How does that sound?"
Lily chuckled as she watched the boy stretch his wings; as cool as he looked to people used to living with mutants, they got quite a few awkward glances in this part of the town. She understood how it must have felt like for him to sit in a car instead of flying. Or at least she had a fair idea. The awkward glances continued as they walked into the shop, but they didn't last for long; Lily's presence spelled money and grace, and they knew better than to insult the young man she point out as their customer. Clerks skittered in every direction to find the perfect suit for the gryphon. "You can't try them on now, of course" Lily smiled at the boy "But that shouldn't be a problem. Just find what you like the most, and we'll make sure it fits in the right places." she chuckled, ruffling the feathers on his wing.
"And it feels like part of you is constantly missing, every time you try to do something, even when it has nothing to do with your powers, it's still just not the same." she nodded. She remembered the one month in the camps when her powers were blocked - not by the collar, but by her own will, true, but still not being able to access her natural abilities was the hardest part of all. After all that happened to Shawn, not having his powers was what hurt him the most, and it hurt her too to see him suffer like that. "It only takes a short time in a school full of mutants to take powers for granted" she nodded as they walked on "You couldn't even imagine life being normal..." she was quiet for a while before she stopped and turned to look up at him. "I know it's not much, but I can tell you one thing: you might not be able to use your powers, right now, but you didn't lose them." she put her free hand against his chest "The silver is still there, I can sense it. It might take a while, but..." she smiled a soft smile "... you are not plainly human just yet."
"Thanks for getting me out of there. One song was long enough. I don't like people staring at me now." "I know." Lily nodded, and she smiled too, for him "I know how it feels. I have been there, remember? You have another two months of sulking ahead if you want to break my record." she chuckled, sqeezing his hand. Here they were again, dangerously close to the topic of who got it worse, and she didn't want to go there, not now or possibly ever. It was pointless to think about things like that, and it didn't help Shawn feel better. She knew she wouldn't be able to solve the problem in one night, but if she could make him feel more at ease, or coax him into talking about anyhting really, it would mean a lot. "You can always count on me to heroically rescue you from school dances." she added with a serious face.
"Elizabeth..." Lily nodded "I don't think I have met her." she chuckled as Carrick added the part about being just friends. She didn't find it amusing because she didn't believe him, not at all. She just noted the haste he said it with. "Just friends. Got it." she nodded again "That's cool. I always went to dances with my friends. I didn't have a boyfriend till I came to the Mansion." she told him, hoping it would make him feel less awkward about actually having a date for the school dance. "James Bond" she arched an eyebrow "All right, I'll see what we can do about that." she nodded "And I know a place where they can adjust the clothes you choose for the wings and the tail." she added with a smile. Lily parked the car and walked with Carrick down the street till she found what she'd been looking for: a men's clothing shop that looked fancy enough for her taste, but not fancy enough to scare the gryphon away. She smiled at him. "Ready?"
Lily laughed as the gryphon boy hugged her; it was like suddenly having a little brother. A very excited, cheerful little brother who was happy with the gift she gave him. She smiled and patted his head, and watched him as he examined the pendant and the necklace. "I'm glad you like it" she nodded, her cheeks slightly pink with pride that she managed to create the pattern he wanted "Try not to lose it. As long as you have it I will always be able to find you." she winked. That last part was both a promise and a warning: the gryphon was not off the hook for what he did, or what he seemed to be doing when she met him. But then again, he was a kid, and a good kid too, most of the time. She'd keep an eye on him and make sure he didn't stray. "All right, Carrick" she smiled "Let's go home."
Shawn remained silent, and she didn't mind. They walked hand in hand, and ended up at the entrance hall. People who came late for the dance were still arriving, and walking towards the Danger Room. It was almost dark outside, the last half an hour of twilight. Lily smiled as they walked outside. "So quiet" she observed as they walked away from the front door towards a more peaceful part of the Mansion grounds. It was warm outside, the heat of the summer day still lingered around them, and even though Lily was only wearing a dress, she was quite comfortable. "Give it a few hours and the garden will be full of teenagers..." she chuckled, tugging on his hand playfully "Come on, Shawn. Talk to me?" She didn't really expect him to talk about anything serious. She just wanted ho hear him speak.
Lily didn't have a place in mind when she suggested to take a walk with Shawn. She'd enjoyed dancing with him, and she knew it would have been easy to convince him to stay and dance some more... but his thoughs seemed far away tonight, and she didn't blame him for it. When she was younger, Lily used to believe she would miss half the world if she missed a ball or a party. She'd since discovered there were more important things. She still held his hand as they walked away from the Danger Room. She didn't really want to turn their evening into some talk session about problems; she was content with some peace and quiet. Where they would end up going, it didn't really matter. "I'm not really taking you anywhere" she smiled up at him "I just thought... a walk would be nice." She'd give him time to talk. Or stay silent. It was his choice.
"Nope, no alcohol" Lily smirked as they walked over to the tables "Last thing we need is a bunch of mutant kids getting drunk. But, we have punch." she chuckled, winking at him "And somebody should be keeping an eye out for the drinks so nobody comes up with the genious idea of spicing them." she added with another smirk as she looked around "Good thing we trust out students. Every single one of them." She poured drinks for both of them, and looked around again. Another song started; people were dancing, talking, laughing, enjoying themselves. It was good to see students having a good time. And their teammates too. "Come on, Shawn" she took his hand again "Let's take a walk."
Lily paused, glancing down at Carrick. It was only natural for a winged creature to not like the underground. She sighed, and winked at the gryphon boy. "Fine, we'll take Shawn's car. But it's our secret, all right?" She walked down to the garage with him, and in no time they were on the road. Lily drove safely as she usually did, took extra care of the car, and make sure Carrick fastened his seatbelt. "All right, before we start looking for shops" she glanced at him as she drove "I was being serious, you know. Also, do you have anything in mind that you'd like? Any ideas?" she paused, then glanced at him again "It usually speeds up the whole process if I have something to go on." she added with a sliht smile. She knew that even if he asked her to help, he probably still didn't want to spend more time shopping than it was necessary...
Lily looked at the family crest and arched an eyebrow. She couldn't help but find it very cool. He would no doubt be very popular with a tattoo like that. She smiled at the gryphon boy. "All right, I can try" she took the necklace back, and it wrapped itself around her wrist as she took another bit of her silver bracelet and shaped it into a pendant. "Let me see." she kept glancing at the tattoo as she formed the piece of silver and slowly the same design started to appear on it; it was not easy, and Lily bit her lip as she focused on useing her powers for precision work. Ater long minutes, she smiled, and attached the pendant to the necklace before handing it back to him. "There you go. I did the best I could. I hope you like it."
