The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There were good days and bad days in working for Haven. Occasionally, there were catastrophic days. Sometimes there were quiet days. And all too often, there were boring days. Today was one of the latter.
Sveta was sitting in a high end restaurant, having decidedly less fun than she had when she went to these places with people like Zselyke. Today, she shared a large table with an assortment of people from various organizations that collaborated with Haven, and decided to have a fancy lunch on Haven's dime. At least Sveta was not the only one expected to entertain anyone. The conversation meandered, from professional topics to food to whatever. Sveta's mind began to wander too. She hated these socializing events. It felt like no work was getting done at all.
Her gaze wandered too, scanning the other tables more out of habit and instinct than anything. And then, she noticed a familiar face.
No way.

There was an explosion and Sveta backed away. That was... alright, at least the door was open. The fireman made his way inside.
>>"It definitely isn't, ma'am! Might be a mutant! It's okay, I can handle fires, even non-normal ones. Is there anyone else up here? Or in the building?"
Sveta didn't take the extended hand. She held her ungloved hand to her chest.
"This building is supposed to be unoccupied. I was just checking on the real estate..." Through the fire escape, oh well. She can explain later. "Let's hope it's not a mutant..."

Fire department. Great. Right now, she would take it. Sveta backed away from the door, which was predictably (and securely) locked. She was not even sure they could break it easily. Damn. It would be horribly ironic to be done in by her own safety measures. He coughed, eyes watering. There was the sound of roaring flames outside. She expected the hiss of water or something, but so far, nothing came.
"I don't think this is a normal fire!"

Sveta swore. She moved to the window first. The building was locked on the gorund floor, so the best way out was... Not the window, apparently. How was a metal fire escape even on fire?! That defeated the entire damn purpose. Also, the laws of physics.
Goddammit.
She moved to the hallway door, but the handle was hot, even through her glove. Sveta hissed, pulling off the glove on instinct, waving her hand and swearing in Russian. The smoke was thicker now. She picked up a towel to hold it to her face. Somewhere in the distance there were sirens. For lack of a better idea, she picked up a frying pan and banged on the door. She knew better than to try to open it.
"HEY!!"

Some days, it was just one fire to put out after the other.
Most days, it was a figure of speech.
Today, it wasn't.
Sveta was not sure who started the fire, but it was very clear that it had not been accidental. She was doing the rounds, visiting the safe houses that Haven kept up - some on the record, some off. She had checked them regularly lately, especially since the attack on the Mansion. Since Travis. Most were occupied at the moment, but some stood empty, stocked and ready in case they were needed. She was just checking an apartment on the sixth floor of an old brick building in an unsuspecting neighborhood, when the fire started. The building was officially empty, but the upper floors were still in decent repair, locked from down below, which made it a decent safe house. Haven kept it that way. Sveta had reached the apartment through the fire escape, unlocking the lock installed on the window. And then, somehow, there was smoke. And fire. Both from the window and from the hallway the apartment opened to. Shit.

>>"I'm sorry someone took advantage of your kindness. But trying to be kind isn't a mistake; especially on a day like that."
"Yeah well... in my personal history, evidence to the contrary keeps piling up." Sveta noted with a frown. And it had not even been kindness. She had told herslef she was keeping Travis at arm's length. Clearly, she mad miscalculated that.
>>"Are you willing to tell me what happened? Not sure what help I can offer, but I'm happy to offer anyway."
Sveta sighed, sipping her drink.
"I... allowed him inside Haven. And he attacked a kid. A toddler." she frowned deeper. "Locked her powers away somehow. We tried to catch him since, but he keeps slipping away. That's actually why I came... To see if you have any useful information on spells like that."

If there was a line between "may I touch you" and "I'm gonna plonk my bubble butt onto your lap", Madison was clearly unaware of it. Sveta smirked, somewhat surprised, but let the girl settle in and steal some of her champagne. She never really had a pysical touchy-feely relationship with any friends, for obvious reasons... or many friends. For obvious reasons. But this was a very low risk situation. For now. She smirked at Bubbles asking a question that was clearly suggestive. Then again,t he girl could have read the phone book and make it sound like a booty call.
"Well... exciting is one word for it." She sighed. "I... made a huge mistake, trusting a mystic. And he took advantage of it, during the chaos of the battle at Xavier's."

>>"To be fair, I never left. Not if I want to stay on pace to graduate this Summer. That wouldn't be good girl behavior, after all."
Sveta chuckled. Bubbles was flirty even when she did not try to be. And it was not a big surprise that she was in school. "Let me guess... labor law?" She ventured. It was not an unlikely guess. Madison was clever, and she clearly cared for having a well managed workplace.
>>"Before we continue, is it okay if I touch you? I promise I haven't developed a mutation since your last trip here."
Sveta nodded. It was strange, being asked without prompting. And this was not why she was here at all, but it still mattered.
>>"As much as I'd love to think you were just craving a private show, I was told you wanted to see me about something?"
Clever girl.
"Yes" she admitted, her smile giving way to something more serious, and a little awkward. "I guess we can say... I learned a lot about mystics since we last met."

Sveta smirked at the young woman. It felt like a lifetime ago that she had been here with Zselyke. Back before she knew jack sh*t about mystics... before the battle. Before Travis. The friendly, cuddly mystic stripper now felt like a whole different person. But as she walked in, she was still herself, and made Sveta smile against her better judgment. In the private booth, the outside world disappeared for a short while.
"Hello, Bubbles" she chuckled, raising her glass of champagne. "I see you have gone back to school..."

"He's a damn spineless sneaky bastard is what you mean" Sveta sighed. She preferred to face someone head on if it was going to be a fight at all. "Alright... Let's coordinate on this. And let me know how your talk went with Jude... good luck."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Sveta sighed and nodded. As good a plan as any, as long as the mystic did not pull any more nasty tricks out of his hat. Or other mystics. These f***s never went alone, it seemed.
"I wish we could do this outside the Mansion" she muttered. It had just been rebuilt, but the scars were still there. Those kids didn't need any more trauma in their life. They already qualified well enough to be vigilantes. "Do you think... he works with others? Didn't seem like the cult type, but now I don't trust anyone anymore."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Sveta smirked at him. "Now you are speaking my language." Tactically applied violence. And making that ***hole hurt. She tilted her head. "Even if you don't need your powers, though... he can make them go haywire, like he did with Sam. And it also caused some sort of a seizure... not sure if that was a side effect of the haywire or not. And now I am more cautious about getting anywhere near him myself. My powers don't do much on their own but still..."

It was official: Sveta was living in some weird 21st century remake of a detective noir movie. (And not just courtesy of Zselyke's frequent visits). In which she paid a stripper for a private dance with a straigth face, so she could have a friendly chat with them away from prying eyes. Luckily, the staff of Hexes handled most requests like they were the most natural in the world. Including this one.
Sveta collapsed in the booth and rubbed her temples with gloved hands. What a freaking week. Weeks. Months. Devon was back at least, but running Haven was still a full time job, let alone dealing with the fallout of the Mansion battle. And the security breach. And hunting Travis. She just wanted some peace and quiet. And a talk with a mystic she could actually trust. That list was very, very short at this point.

"Sh*t." Sveta muttered, adding some curse words in Russian. So not only was the guy not caught yet, but if Ranger's gut feeling was right, then the threat to Iris was not over either. She ran a gloved hand through her hair. "Alright, I'll let Mirror and Rebecca know. They can up Mansion security... And we need to figure out how we are going to catch that ***hole. Especially with the shapeshifting."

Everything Ranger said made sense. Sveta felt a sense of relief, having someone to talk this over with. Sam had been all about the offense, and he was emotionally involved in this whole thing, being an uncle to the kid. Ranger was more logical. Her eyes widened at that last comment, though.
"You think he'll go after Iris again?"
