The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kealey was paying close attention to how her trainees responded to her reprimand. Could they both have acted with more force than they chose to use? Absolutely. Did that excuse them harming the guards when they’d been given explicit instructions not to do so?
William didn’t speak, but Kealey could feel his consternation and self-righteousness…derision even? Blue eyes narrowed slightly in the teen’s direction. Kealey didn’t know the boy well, but it appeared that maybe she needed to remedy that fact. Did Shin know him? Who, exactly, had William been working with for a mentor?
Questions for later.
Aston was annoyed too and all of this doubt made Kealey doubt herself a little bit…whether she wanted to or not. Ashton mastered his emotions though and acknowledged her criticism. That was a mark in his favor. Regardless, it was time to move on.
Lee and Tarin were clearing up the guards, moving them to a safe location out of the way so they wouldn’t be incidentally injured. Lee was moving very quickly and Tarin seemed concerned. Surely Lee knew what she was doing. The woman was nothing if not meticulous and Kealey had no question in her mind that Lee knew her limits.
The redhead and the other Will were chatting, the former asking the latter for help with an injury. Had she been hurt in the struggle with the guards? Kealey didn’t remember her being struck…right now it didn’t matter. There wasn’t time. Will offered to give the redhead’s eyes and ears a tweak as well? What had he said his powers were? Sensory manipulation?
Taking not of that and filing it away for later, Kealey laid out her plan.
That finished, they were ready to head into the Museum proper.

Will seemed amenable to sharing the stories from social media and Kealey listened intently. Enrollment at the school was relatively small, so the chances of A LOT of people sharing stories online were probably wildly exaggerated.
Still. Some of the things Will said did ring true and Kealey laughed, ”Things would be much easier if we could build a secret army…I can tell you that much. We are honestly stretched a bit thin at the moment as I’m sure you realized at the Museum. My husband and the other active full members of the team were dealing with the summoned King while we were at the Museum.” the laugh had faded from her voice by the end of that admission and she shook her head slightly before she smiled again.
“The holograms are true though, as are the more mundane things you mentioned.” They didn’t really keep the danger room a secret. It was a useful tool for students to train their powers. It was hard to hurt a hologram and the room itself could handle a lot before things were truly dangerous.
As Will relaxed, Kealey took a deep breath herself and nodded as he asked for water. That was the simplest of the options and she moved to grab a bottle from the small fridge in the office and offer it to Will as she sat in the other seat on this side of the desk as opposed to the one on the other side.
Will had a question of his own and it was only fair that she be willing to answer, even if the question was a bit of a shot to the ego. “I came to stay in the Mansion in twenty-ten.” she admitted, ”I’d come to the States a couple of years before…” That was a long story.
”I got mixed up in some trouble and a friend of mine here at the Mansion helped me and then helped me get set up to live here for a while.”
Kealey paused for a moment, making sure that the facts were straight in her head before she continued, ”I’m not sure exactly when I officially joined the X-Team, but it was probably around twenty-twelve. I’ve never been a terribly active field member. My powers don’t lend themselves very well to active combat, but I’ve led teams off and on in the time between and mentored a fair number of students and team members. I retired from active duty a few years ago after I graduated from fashion school and started up my own line. I was just getting ready to step back into duty when we found out about Michael so I put those plans on hold until now. The Museum was my first day back on the job.”
Kealey didn’t mind sharing, especially not when it helped dispel the misconception that somehow the X-Men were untouchable. They were just people with lives and, sometimes, other jobs who were just doing their best to keep everyone safe.

As time went on, Will seemed to be relaxing a bit. That was excellent news and Kealey decided to give herself a bit of leniency towards her earlier faux pas. In the future when she reached out, unsolicited, to try and speak to folks she would be more forthcoming with why she wanted to meet. It wouldn’t do to make people an absolute wreck before they’d ever set foot in the Mansion.
Inside now, Kealey once again found herself nostalgic at the excitement and curiosity that the entryway was inspiring. At one point all of this had been new and exciting to her too. At another point it had become work. Now…now it was getting exciting again. A new opportunity, with new recruits and trainees that needed mentoring.
Will spoke and Kealey blinked slightly as she looked over at him, slowly pulling from her train of thought and back to the conversation at hand. She was going to have to pay more attention and stop being so easily distractible or this meeting was going to go as poorly as the invitation had.
”Oh my gosh, I don’t even know the last time anyone edited the website. I can only imagine the things it says…” Kealey said with a small smile and a shake of her head.
Social media? The blonde stayed away from it as much as humanly possible, but she couldn’t only imagine the things they said.
”You’ll have to fill me in on the newest social media rumors. My husband and I had a baby about 8 months ago and I’m only just starting to catch up with the world.”
It seemed that Will was happy enough for her to begin asking questions, even if he seemed cautious to do so.
Kealey nodded, “We can talk in my office.” she said, turning and leading the way down one of the corridors. This direction led to the more administrative side of the Mansion and “Kealey’s office” was actually a shared space that various people in the Mansion used when they were doing administrative duties. Gone was the time when Kealey had held the official position of librarian and had a real office to call her own.
Once they were in the room, Kealey gestured at one of the chairs on the front side of the desk. ”Can I offer you some water…or soda…or hours old terrible coffee?” she asked as her fist set of questions.

Coming down the steps had been the right move, Kealey decided as some of the previous nerves seemed to be calming as proper introductions were made. There was security in knowing who you were dealing with and just because they were meeting at the Mansion didn’t mean that they had to keep things formal.
No, in fact, Kealey much preferred that things say casual and relaxed. Despite the fact that she hadn’t had too much trouble with her power over the last few years, it still helped her think and keep things straight when the people around her were calm and regulated.
Calm wasn’t quite the word that Kealey would have used to describe Will at this point, but he definitely wasn’t panicked. A point in his favor.
When she complimented his actions at the Museum, Will appreciated the sentiment and Kealey couldn’t help but smile. It was good to know that he wasn’t too aloof to acknowledge his own accomplishments.
He was also a very good liar.
Most people probably would have missed it, but the easy smile and easy handshake and casual posture were hiding far more complicated emotions that Will didn’t want to show. He also must not have remembered what she could do and Kealey wondered for a moment if she should reveal it or not.
Maybe not right away, she decided as Will acknowledged that he had been surprised by her text. ”I’d imagine so. It isn’t every day an almost complete stranger texts you out of the blue on a number you didn’t give out. I apologize for that as well. I tried more conventional means of getting ahold of you, but my only options were not very forthcoming with your contact information.”
And Will was curious about the Mansion. Turning to survey it and letting Will’s emotions wash over her as she looked, it was kind of like seeing it for the first time so many years ago. Kealey could still remember it like it was yesterday, floating down into the gardens on a pink tortilla chip the day after Shin had saved her from that psychopath Roland.
Now was not the time to reminisce though and as Will pointed out that there were lots of rumors, Kealey could help but laugh a little. ”A fair number of them are probably true.” she said, moving back towards the stairs and indicating that Will should follow.
It wasn’t long before they were standing in the entryway. It looked like any old Mansion would be expected to look. There was a chandelier and two sweeping staircases on either side of the entrance facing wall. There were hallways adjacent and a lot of wood tones.
”More than anything though, we’re a school, and a safe place for children and adults who are learning how to exist in a world that isn’t always ready for what they can do.” she explained. ”Do you have any questions to start? Is there anything you’ve heard about that you’d want to see? Or should I start to pry?” she asked directly as they stood there.

The guards at the gate had been given explicit instructions that when Will arrived he was to be let in with no questions asked. There was absolutely no reason to overwhelm the poor man and make things needlessly difficult.
It was nearly six o’clock now and Kealey stayed right where she was, waiting for the arrival.
It wasn’t a terribly long time before Kealey could feel a jumble of emotions approaching from the direction of the gate. Unless there were multiple people approaching, Will was feeling lots of things and Kealey suddenly felt bad for not saying more when she had sent the initial text.
As soon as Kealey could see her guest, she made her way down the stairs, curls bouncing around her shoulders to meet her guest as much of halfway as possible. The intention here hadn’t been to intimidate or impress, simply to provide an open invitation to a place that didn’t necessarily hand them out with candy. That had backfired a bit though and it made Kealey positively itch to make things a little easier.
She didn’t though. Kealey had learned a very long time ago that playing with the emotions of others when not invited or necessary could have unintended consequences. It was also a terrible way to earn trust.
”Hello Will!” Kealey said on approach, ”It is just Will, right?” She said, Irish accent lilting slightly here and there. Hopefully she’d gotten Will’s name right, that was how everyone had referred to him on the day, so Kealey had assumed.
Because Kealey had worn flats today, Will was taller than she was (as was almost everyone) and dressed casually. Good, Kealey was dressed down too in a simple sweater from her fall line and jeans.
”I don’t think we were ever properly introduced. I’m Kealey, welcome to the Mansion.” she said, offering a hand to shake before pausing for a moment, her head tilted slightly as she studied the younger man in front of her, ”I’m sorry if my invitation made you nervous or uncomfortable. It wasn’t my intention at all. I was impressed by you at the Museum and simply wondered if you’d like to know more about the Mansion.”

It was a while before Kealey had the time to check the response to her message. When she did, Kealey desperately wished she could read emotions over text. There was a typo and some improper capitalizations, but in this day and age that didn’t mean much.
Kealey hadn’t responded. The date was set and too much communication was pretty much as bad as too little. Besides, Kealey vastly preferred in-person interactions where she could gauge the situation as it progressed. There would be plenty of time for conversation on Thursday.
Still…Kealey wished she knew how Will had felt about her reaching out. Was he eager? Apprehensive? Absolutely freaked out that she’d managed to get ahold of his number? All of those things were possible, but would not be clear until Thursday so Kealey did her best to put it out of her mind.
The week had passed as most weeks did and when Thursday rolled around, Kealey had found herself eager to formally meet this new person. Kealey had assumed that, like most, Will would be excited or at the least curious to get to see the Mansion. For safety reasons, it was closed to the public and most people went their whole lives without seeing inside. Going off of rumors tended to exaggerate the place, but it was still impressive at first sight.
Kealey’s goal tonight was to make a connection and find out more about Will. The fact that he’d been willing, if not necessarily eager, to help that day in the Museum boded well, as did his association with Lee. That association had turned out to be rather brief, and when it had become obvious she was curious in an X-Man capacity, Kealey’s friend had become rather tight-lipped on the subject. That was a problem for another day though. Lee’s faith in the X-team was rather non-existent despite the fact that her son was studying at the Mansion.
It was Thursday evening, as arranged though, and as Kealey noted the time she made her way from the Library and through the school to the entryway of the Mansion. For a Thursday night, the Mansion was rather subdued. The feelings of children and teenagers were always chaotic though and it brought Kealey back to a time where some days it had been hard to come out of her room for all the swirling and surging emotions that had been present. Things were easier now, but Kealey also spent less time in environments like this and realized that if she was going to become more active again, she needed to reacclimate herself to busy environments.
A few moments before the appointed time, Kealey pulled the large front door open and made her way outside to wait. The weather was starting to turn and it was chilly, but the blonde didn’t mind, she was focused on looking for a new set of emotions so she could set the proper tone for this meeting.

A response didn’t come immediately. Kealey hadn’t really expected it to and she was more than happy to be patient. Kealey was also prepared to never get an answer. Unsolicited, personal texts from the paramilitary organization based in your town weren’t often met with much excitement. This had been a proverbial shot in the dark and Kealey was fine setting the pieces into motion and leaving the rest for Heaven to sort.
Looking back to the laptop where Kealey was meticulously researching childcare that could work around the schedule that Mansion would require if she took on a more active role again had been the prevalent task on her mind. Shin was good at many many wide and varied things, detailed research into the seemingly thousands of childcare options in the city was not one of those things. A Nanny situation would probably be the easiest, Kealey knew, but that involved bringing yet another person into their sphere and she was already overwhelmed often enough as it was.
The text notification on the blonde’s phone pinged and she picked up the phone to see that the return text had come quite a bit faster than she had thought it might and a wide smile spread across the blonde’s features as she read the words on the screen.
It seemed that Will was amenable to meeting. He was open in the evenings unless it was a weekend and that suited Kealey just fine. Barring an emergency, coordinating with Shin so she didn’t have to bring the baby would be as simple as sending him a text when she was done here.
That decided, the blond started tapping away with her thumbs.
Yes, that’s the one. It’s not an urgent matter but I most definitely think it’s the other way around as far as owing one is concerned. We greatly appreciated your help in that situation. Thursday around 6:00? I will let security at the gate know to expect you then and I will meet you at the doors.
Pleased with herself for her successful communication and glancing at the clock to see that her practice session with the student empath was about to start, Kealey pocketed her phone and headed towards the library where they’d chosen to meet.

If one thing had become clear to Kealey as the events at the Museum had unfolded, it was the fact that she needed to take on a more active role in the X-Men. She’d been informally retired from active duty for years now as she got her fashion line off the ground, but it was pretty much self-sustaining now and she’d already been taking on more work at the Mansion when she’d found out she was pregnant.
That whole thing had put a hold on her taking back a more active role and once Michael had been born Kealey hadn’t one much of anything other than wander around in a haze of baby emotions for four months. Now, with Michael passing the six month mark, things were getting much easier. The attack on the city had been a wake-up call and Kealey was once again getting back in the proverbial saddle. The X-Trainees were rough and mentorship was not what it should be.
Numbers weren’t exactly what they should be either and a thought had occurred to the blond one day as she was at the Mansion, waiting to work with a young empath who had moved in several days prior.
Kealey had been surprised when two newcomers had shown up at the Museum with Lee and Tarin. They’d both shown themselves to be more than capable in a tense situation and even if they weren’t ready to sign up for the X-Team, having them somehow connected to The Mansion could only be a good thing.
To that end, Kealey had spent the next little while searching out their information. Lee had been a dead end. Despite the fact that the two had shown up with her and Tarin, Lee had either not had or had not been willing to share either persons information. That had left Kealey no choice but to use other means. Luckily the resources of the X-Men and the Mansion were nearly limitless and after a significant amount of work, the blonde had found herself writing a text. A phone call seemed somehow weird in this scenario, but a text seemed far less threatening.
Hello Will. My name is Kealey Shinbo. We met at the museum a few weeks ago. I’m reaching out on behalf of the Mansion and would love to arrange a time to sit down and talk. I’d be happy to host you at the Mansion, or you’re welcome to choose another location. Please reach back out via text or feel free to call this number if you’re amenable.

Well. Everyone sort of listened. In general there was loosely organized chaos. Heaving a sigh as she continued to move forward, Kealey tried to continue focusing on the guards even though she knew there wasn’t a lot she was going to be able to do. At least one of the men was absolutely terrified and it sent a shiver down the empath’s spine as she moved forward, tamping down that terror. Despite what was happening, the guards had no reason to be afraid of them. Except that they kind of did.
Ashton and his riot shield and William and his powers had incapacitated two of the guards. The other Will had successfully incapacitated a third and the tall redhead was working on getting them secured in a fashion that would render their attempts at escape or deterral useless.
Lee had successfully incapacitated two of the guards on her own and with the help of Tarin’s spirits and was already scolding Ashton and Ion for hurting the guards that they’d decided to take on. Which was…fair…but also not her job. Had Lee wanted to run a team of X-Men or their recruits, she’d had plenty of opportunities to join up.
Realizing that the tension of the situation might be bleeding into her own feelings, Kealey took a deep breath and a moment to regulate her emotions before she started speaking again. There wasn’t much more to organize, but the cat would be out of the proverbial bag now that they had attacked the compelled guards. The cheerleading outsider was a distraction and Kealey reached out to tamp down some of that manic happiness in hopes that he would calm and be helpful.
That accomplished and leaving Lee to incapacitate the guard that had approached her, Kealey moved around and towards her trainees.
”William.” the blonde said tersely, ”You were told not to harm the guards. They’re innocents in this and no different than the general public. Not only that, but our image is everything, especially right now.” she said. The media debacle with Sam had not done much for public opinion of the X Teams.
Swinging her attention to Ashton, Kealey addressed the man in the same terse voice, ”That goes for you too Ashton. They didn’t walk into work today planning on this.”
Looking at the rest of the assembled folks, Kealey shook her head, ”Nobody else here is on my team, so I won’t presume to issue orders.” she said, glancing over her shoulder at Lee, ”But if we can’t work together this is going to get ugly fast. If I know anything about situations like this, it's that when we get inside it’s going to be chaos. We cannot add to the chaos…”
Taking a deep breath, Kealey let it out, ”Here’s what I’d like to do…”

Things were certainly moving now.
As she handed out mission assignments, Kealey couldn’t help but notice the mild irritation lobbed her way from Ashton at what she’d told him to do. He probably did have a point, she thought, and there might come a time when they were inside when she’d call on him to help in a more specific sense. Kealey needed good people in all of the places though and the first priority was going to be actually getting into the Egyptian wing.
Kealey finished speaking and nodded slightly as Lee took Tarin off to the side. Between Kealey’s powers and whatever it was Lee said, things got much better there. Watching them for another brief moment, the empath had to think that they were good together, but time would tell how good and if it extended to a fight.
The other two newcomers seemed to respond well to the emotional tweaking as well. They were farm more calm now that their nerves were settled and Kealey watched as the other assembled members began to talk, plan, and share ideas.
This wasn’t the best planned mission Kealey had ever oversaw, but with the time she’d had to plan, it was the best that things were going to get and she was satisfied.
As expected, the guards didn’t stay away for long and before Kealey knew it Lee was heading towards the group. It might have been better if this part of the plan could have been a bit more coordinated, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. Almost before she could act…everyone else did. Kealey supposed that was a good thing because as Lee grabbed the guard by the wrist, Will turned and grabbed another. His nerves had settled quite nicely, Kealey had to think. What had he said he did? Sensory manipulation.
As that happened, what had to be spirits winked into sight and grabbed two of the other guards. Tarin was still standing where Lee had left him, a look of rapt concentration on his face as he presumably did whatever it was to control the things. They still made Kealey wildly uncomfortable and she suppressed the urge to cross herself as she took in the rest of what was happening.
The redhead named Quin had joined the fray and seemed to be grappling with a guard.
William (this had the potential to get confusing) had stepped amongst the guards now and was using his powers to subdue them just as effectively as everyone else was.
Then Ashton went to work. One second he was here, the next second he was there. Then there were tennis balls, riot shields, there was a gun somewhere in there, no…it was where Ashton had been standing minutes before. Now he was calling for zip ties and things seemed to be under control, or soon to be so.
Walking forwards towards the mix, Kealey did her best to pick out the emotions of the guards. Their sense of purpose was so strong and Kealey narrowed her eyes as she tried to manipulate the feelings around that. There was desperation there, and no small amount of fear. Those emotions she could change, but something about the sense of purpose eluded her. It was almost like it wasn’t an emotion…
”It’s as we thought,” Kealey said loudly, moving forward towards the group, fighting wasn’t her strong suit, but this she knew, ”They’re being compelled to act. They’re going to keep trying, they can’t do anything else. Render them unconscious if possible otherwise they’ll hurt themselves.”
Things were starting to move from motion to action. The team was assembled, rag-tag as it was, and it was almost time to get inside and see if they could accomplish their goal.
It turned out it was a red-letter day to come out of retirement and Kealey found herself directing a group with wildly varying degrees of experience. With those varying degrees of experience came varying degrees of comfort and readiness. It was a lot in such close quarters and as Kealey opened the door and exited the car she worked to sort out the tangle of emotions from the assembled group.
William was fairly stable as far as his emotions were concerned. Nothing had changed since they’d made it to the museum. That was good. A less experienced member of the team should have a healthy dose of nerves. It kept them cautious and from being rash or making silly decisions.
The odd man in the back who had identified themselves as ‘Zek’ was downright happy and eager despite the fact that Kealey had just explained the stakes of their situation. It was an incredibly odd reaction and Kealey still didn’t know exactly what to think. She decided that he fit well into the wildcard category and would proceed accordingly.
Ashton was waffling back and forth a bit, but was what Kealey would generally acknowledge as regulated at the moment. There were varying emotions at varying levels, but Ashton seemed to have them under control. Fine. That was fine.
Lee’s emotions were probably the closest mirror to Kealey’s in the group. There was healthy worry there, but it wasn’t overwhelming. There was another, more nuanced concern, some aggravation, and simple resignation. Kealey could empathize on a level beyond her powers. Kealey knew Lee pretty well and neither of them was particularly interested in participating in these kinds of things anymore.
And that’s where things stopped being easy.
The other three in the group, despite their fairly cool and collected appearances were really anything but…
Tarin, who Kealey had only spent any appreciable time with once before today was a tightly coiled bundle of nerves. As he had the first time they’d met, he was studiously looking anywhere but at Kealey and the blonde reminded herself that this was not the same Tarin she had known previously. Lee had suggested some things, but this level of anxiety came as a bit of a surprise and Kealey looked away from Tarin to make eye contact with Lee for a moment before turning to the other two.
These two were nervous, reluctant, scared, but there was also some quiet determination there. Potential. They weren’t a part of this world, at least not yet and they were overwhelmed by what they had found themselves pulled into. Still, if Lee had thought the two of them capable enough to help…
Kealey knew she was making a decision that could get people who weren’t even a part of her team hurt, but more help was better.
They’d all shared as much as they could in the short time they had about their powers and Kealey nodded. Side conversations were happening, offers of help, more context, all the things that tended to help with group coordination. It was time to act though, all the planning in the world wouldn’t accomplish the task.
”Thanks to Tarin’s information we’ve got a plan now. I’d assume that the guards aren’t going to stay away forever and if they are being mind controlled, someone is going to eventually notice that I’ve been messing with them.”
The little blonde shook her head and took a breath, focusing to try and keep her own emotions at bay as the influence from the others in the group tried to push them askew. ”The most important thing we can do is get the ankh away from the Mystic Woman. According to Shin and Michael that’s the key. From there, if we can neutralize Ahk, we do so…if not, we get away with the artifact.”
”We neutralize all museum employees as gently as possible, but full engagement with Ahk and anyone she directly summons. Do your best.”
The nerves were starting to get to her a bit and Kealey reached out to the three who were the most affected, gently pushing down that particularly emotion. It didn’t disappear, it was dangerous to completely remove all caution from a person, but hopefully it would take the edge of and help them make good decisions.
[colo=deeppink]”I’ll be heading for the Egyptian wing with William, “ [/color] Kealey said, nodding to the younger X-Man who was beginning to glow, ”Lee, I’d like you…” she hesitated for a moment, ”And Tarin to join me…we are going to need support from the outside too, and help to keep the way clear. Can everyone else do that?”

The strange new person who seemed to be able to materialize things out of thin air was just there to have…fun? They also didn’t know who Shin was, and seemed to have some interesting ideas about how things here could be managed.
Kealey frowned at that as the younger man made his way into the car. They were here to have fun. Kealey had interacted with people like this before and they tended to want to increase the chaos of a situation instead of making things more organized.
”We’d very much appreciate your help.” Kealey said, ”What’s going on inside the Egyptian wing is dangerous for everyone in the city and people are risking their lives to try and handle other parts of this threat.”
Her Husband was one of them, Kealey thought, glancing down at her ring…still firmly in place. “And while I understand that there’s something to be said about not taking things too seriously….this is not one of those times.” she was going to try to do this the diplomatic way first, without powers being involved, but if she needed….hopefully it wouldn’t be necessary.
The guards were approaching again and William backed the car up more as Kealey narrowed her eyes slightly in their direction and did the same thing she’d done the first time. Just like the last time, these three wandered off back towards the museum.
The man that Shin had sent was Ashton. He was also overwhelmed, annoyed, and distrustful. It made Kealey want to fidget and she took a deep breath, ”I’m Kealey, an empath. I’m currently making sure those guards stay away from us.”
She didn’t know what else to say currently, until the rest of the people Shin had mentioned arrived, there wasn’t much to do.
Suddenly, there was someone else in the car and Kealey nearly jumped out of her skin as the man appeared in the back seat between Ashton and the other newcomer.
“Oh…uh, hey.” The person said. They didn’t look quite right and the strangest thing of all was that Kealey couldn’t feel any emotions from him. He also look like he’d stepped right out of a gangster film.
“Tarin and Lee and two other kids are gonna be here in a minute. They sent me ahead to let you know.”
Tarin and Lee? Kealey’s eyes got a bit wide and a smile spread across her features, ”That’s very good news.”
Taking a deep breath, Kealey addressed the car, ”Alright…so once they get here….” she said.

As the guards made their way back through the parking lot and the younger man climbed into the back of the car, Kealey frowned thoughtfully. Surely those guards weren’t working willingly for the Mystic they were there to stop. That complicated things significantly. ”We’re going to have to be careful not to injure those guards.” she said softly. ”Or any other museum employees.” The blonde shook her head as she thought…she wasn’t much use as far as long term incapacitation was concerned, it took much concentration.
William spoke and Kealey looked up, pulled from her thoughts by a figure…a person, sliding down a rope and falling to the ground on the side of the car. William asked if this was another of the people Shin had sent to help and Kealey shook her head, ”I don’t think so…but if they can help…”
The man in the back was talking again, pretty much confirming what Kealey had thought about the guards and Kealey rolled down her own window.
”Did Shin send you?” Kealey asked, focusing on the newcomer’s emotions for a moment. They were…interesting. If she’d had to put a word to them she’d have called them…chaotic? They were something, but the person outside the car seemed happy to be there.
”If not, are you here to help or hinder. We really don’t need any of the second kind.”

The call from Shin had come as a bit of a surprise, especially when it turned out to be a call about Mansion business as opposed to simply checking in on Michael or discussing plans they’d made.
The call was about a child, but not theirs, and it appeared to be a situation in which Kealey was particularly well suited to help.
The scenario brought up bad memories, memories that the blond had not thought about for years. Memories of a time when simply existing had been overwhelming at best and completely unbearable at its worst. It had taken her years to get a handle on things to a point where she could actually function in a public setting. It had been years more before Kealey had been truly capable of drowning out the emotions of others and their influence and be sure that the things she was feeling and acting on were her own.
Shin had helped so much with the second part. Having someone whose emotions she knew almost as well as her own had given Kealey a tether, something to latch on to when things got overwhelming. A baseline to always reference when her own emotions felt out of control.
Michael was having a good day and good days were becoming more and more common as the infant grew into a baby…he was also sleeping far more consistently which made everyone far happier.
Regardless, helping Shin meant finding a sitter for Michael and luckily Lee had been available and willing to help…a Godsend considering the fact that at least one of Michael’s parents recognized the fact that Mansion business was no place for a baby.
Things had moved quickly then and Kealey couldn’t help but get a little lost in memories as she and Shin made their way to the designated address. Kealey could feel all of the emotions of everyone in the building, but there was a definite feedback loop that had formed in the unit that they were now approaching. Focusing on it brought everything into even more stark recollection.
Clicking her tongue slightly, she shook her head, curls bouncing around her face as she did so, ”The poor thing…” she said to Shin as they approached the door.
That said, Kealey reached out towards that feedback loop with her powers, attempting to calm the maelstrom raging in the child’s mind by ramping down each of the raging emotions.
OOC - I don’t know how their powers will interact. Generally if a person indicates that they are feeling something, Kealey is able to either amp it up or ramp it down to nothing. She must be able to touch someone in order to introduce things they’re not already feeling.

They pulled into the parking lot of the museum and Kealey frowned as William spoke. Someone was already here, and they were being hampered in his attempts to enter the building.
Was she sure that this was the right place? ”Absolutely.” Kealey said. Shin had said that this was the place they needed to be and he simply wasn’t wrong about things like this. Not when it mattered as much as this mattered.
The guards didn’t seem particularly malicious. Determined…focused…but not particularly malicious. They had the feel of people who wanted to do their jobs and were good at it. They were moving from the doorway of the museum now, the man they were probably supposed to meet approaching at a faster clip than the security guards. Their feelings hadn’t changed, but other man’s had.
He was concerned, about what Kealey didn’t know, but it was there along with a myriad of other things that seemed more like personality traits than situational feelings. It had taken years, but Kealey had eventually learned to tell the difference.
”This is one of the people we’re meeting.” Kealey said as he approached the XUV and she rolled down the window.
The man was babbling now, talking about how much the guards cared about what their boss wanted done and Kealey realized that they did indeed care quite a lot.
Well. They had cared a lot. Now they hardly cared at all…as was made evident by the fact that they started to wander away from the car and its inhabitants. Kealey kept a hold on that emotion just in case something else was at play here and someone else tried to make them care again.
Was her husband’s name Shin? At that, the blond smiled, ”You must be one of the people he said we’d be meeting. Hop in, easier to keep a low profile until the others arrive…do you know who they are?”
