The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aurum tumbled as Lenna shoved him forward roughly, releasing his arm.
"If you thought I was helpless," the woman sneered. "What about some lame-brain thug you try to stop on the street. It doesn't take skill or brains to use a knife or pull a trigger."
It was a lesson. A harsh one. And as he rubbed his arm, he decided it was a fair one. "Yeah, okay." He fired back. His ego might have been bruised just a little. "Maybe this way of helping isn't the best one..."

She thought it was a pointless conversation. Aurum disagreed. "You should be thanking me," His voice was heated as he took a step after her, clearly in the wrong, but missing the fact. He hadn't yet made the appropriate connections to deduce his wrongness. "Your purse is back. If I hadn't stuck my neck out, you'd be down your money. Your purse. And given a whole lot of trouble over a stupid little mugging!"
What the hell was wrong with her? What the hell was wrong with everyone? Why did they keep telling him being a nice guy was equivalent to finishing last?!

On the outside, he gave no hint of being upset about what she'd said. Nowhere would you have found a straighter face. But inside, a vein on his forehead twitched as one eye squinted and he stared at her under his dark rain cloud like she was a freaking idiot. "Why is it people always tell me that..." He muttered with a sigh. A hand casually ran across his forehead to his hair.
"Maybe because it's good advice and playing the hero will get you killed," Lenna said to him, before turning away. It didn't seem like there was anything more to talk about with this man.
"Bull crap," Aurum spat. Lenna paused. "If I hadn't stuck my foot out, he'd have gotten away. I can take care of myself. And doing nothing is worse than trying something, even if you fail."

"Oh, you mean my girlfriend." Aurum snapped. He suddenly realized he'd snapped at the realization, and quickly stuffed his hands into his coat pockets. "That's the only time I've had a drink stuffed in my face. So it kind of stands out."
The entire night, he couldn't recall. Just that he'd helped Riley home, he remembered. And something else. Ah, but it didn't matter. "I still don't remember you, I'm afraid." He confessed.
What? Was this some sort of situation where she baited him with being a witch, then tried to get his interest so she could lure him out for conversation and drinks? He couldn't see much point in the conversation, other than idle chatter, because that possibility wasn't happening.

Though she sounded like she knew him, he really didn't remember her. Passed the woman her purse uncertainly, eyeing her warily.
"Do I know you...?" He said slowly. Had she been someone who'd thrown a beer at him? But that didn't even happen... except for that one time with Riley. He didn't make a habit of pissing women off. Unless they were Riley. And-- Well, wait. Something clicked. He brushed it away.
He'd got her purse back. As far as he was concerned, the conversation was over. If she wanted to start a fight, she could do that. But it'd be with the wall. He'd be long gone.
An average day. The late January chill was in the air. The sky was gray, yet the sun beat down. Unfortunately, not hot enough to dispel the cold. Being in crowded places helped, with the body heat, but he'd still chosen to wear a scarf. It was red against the black of his suit, and he really shouldn't have been doing what he was doing in it. Riley would never have approved. Then again, when did she ever of his Good Samaritan schtick? He stuck a leg out.
A man who'd been running fell neatly onto his face. Crouching down a moment, Aurum extracted the purse from the sweaty male's greasy grip. The man was out cold, but definitely alive. A small trip like that wouldn't kill him. As he turned to catch the purse's owner's attention, he also managed to dual-task in flagging down a police officer.
"Mugger." He nodded to the balding and mildly overweight man. "Didn't mean to bump into him like that. Ah, here's the purse's owner now."
The police officer was about your average height for an African American woman. She wasn't as tall as the woman she turned to. An eyebrow arched as she asked the woman "This your purse?"
I'd like to nominate James Ellen for Mutant of the Month, January.
James is a lot of fun to thread with. I'd had plenty laughs reading his posts. His character is so awkward, but so honest. He's great! I think he'd make a great mutant of the month!
"I can think of a few things," Aurum smiled. He left her to ask or assume. The 'charming, disarming' smile move was weaker than usual, due to the black eye, but... who knew?
Getting a job wasn't a bad idea. She could be a career woman. It'd give her more to talk about when he came to visit, and more to do when she wasn't on-the-job. All around, it seemed like a good idea.

"You think they'd care? I have an aunt who was on Magnum. She's a realtor, and she does fine."
He smirked at her, happy she liked the idea. He had to admit, sitting at home all day had to be boring. "Feel free to wear a pencil skirt and put your hair up whenever you want, by the way. Doesn't have to be taken seriously, or for a job. You'd look good."

"Bet you looked good," he replied matter-of-factly, then moved on. "What kind of job do you think would interest you? It'd have to leave time for me and your modeling. By the way--" He kissed her again, on the cheek. "That's for the pillow smash."
"There are a lot of options, if you're not too picky. Fast food is out of the question. Office jobs are boring... though you'd look killer in a pencil skirt." He held his chin as he considered it considerately. "White blouse and glasses. Librarian's the same. You could put your hair up and let it flow down as you shake your head. Could take up more modeling gigs, for chain stores and the like, or try acting. You could even try selling houses." He finished his list.

"Ultimate Fighting Championship?" He suggested innocuously.
He didn't see the pillow coming at 300 miles per hour until it hit him in the face. He laughed as he caught it.
"Kidding, kidding. Although I bet you could take out the green ranger if you tried. Seriously, though, I still think cooking would be a good hobby. But if you want to leave that to me... scrapbooking? Video games? Reading? Writing? Arithmetic? No on that last one. You aren't Shin. Maybe you could take up being a part-time mechanic, or get a second job?" All of them could potentially be good options, although all of them could also be really bad. The image of Riley trying to fix a car, nose with a spot of oil, hands all greasy, wrench in hand, was a funny one. Although he preferred the imagine the pin-up version of that mental image.

He knew he really shouldn't have laughed, but... he was a jerk.
"You don't need to change lives to have a hobby. But maybe we can teach you knitting, or some more recipes. Cake-baking. Or how to make a pot roast. Or how to be the most beautiful woman in the -- wait, no. You've already got that hobby down to a science. My mistake." He smirked.

The blushing was very cute. It was something she didn't do all that often... at least, not when he was looking. He suspected, it wasn't something she did when anyone was looking. The look before the blush had been thoughtful, considering... but he vastly preferred the blushing. She fretted with the ice as she waited on him to not talk about the weather.
He turned off the TV with his mind... by using the remote.
"How was your day?" He asked. "You've already heard about mine."
