The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mutations
Mutation description: The ability to raise the temperature and radiate heat from his hands and body to varying levels, from a warming touch to setting fire to paper, clothing, or other easily flammable objects. To people he can cause shallow burns, like a sunburn, with brief contact and 2nd or 3rd degree burns with solid contact after about five seconds and the severity depends on how long he has contact Due to his mutation he has a high resistance to heat although below freezing temperatures can completely neutralize his powers. Water does not affect it and he can even cause very small bodies of water to boil, such as a small pond. Strengths: Extremely useful in hand to hand combat Weaknesses: Deke still has problems controlling his power and although he can usually keep it from affecting his clothes, he has burned them off while testing the limits of it. The optimal range of his power is touch as trying to push it to be effective due to the radiation of heat would have unintended consequences. Usually can not push his power to high temperatures unless his adrenaline is pumping, such as when he is angry.
Fighting Style
Explanation: Mixing combat strikes, learned through boxing when he was younger and through the Marines later in life, with his power. Also tends to fight dirty when he can Pros for fighting style: Can be very effective in one on one combat and can quickly neutralize an opponent with some devastating strikes Cons for fighting style: Not very good against a group of opponents as it tends to focus on one at a time. Stronger opponents can easily overpower him due to his straight forward approach and limited dodging. A missed strike can leave him fairly vulnerable
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated
History Of Your Character: Deke had a fairly normal upbringing and when he graduated high school being unsure about his future he joined the United States Marine Corps become the third generation of his family to earn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Although assigned a Top Secret clearance his job mostly involved working on computers and satellites most of the time far from combat. He did a tour in Iraq and then a tour in Afghanistan, where he was injured in a suicide bomber attack while doing a two month stint on the base defense force.
Although most of his body was protected by his combat gear, he suffered shrapnel wounds to his legs. Although it didn’t affect his ability to walk Deke spent a month at Bethesda Naval Hospital recovering from the wounds. It was during this time that his mutation started to reveal itself. Although he couldn’t feel it his temperature was running a bit hot then he noticed that his hands would cause water to steam. These little oddities only lasted for about a week and then everything went back to normal.
After he was released from the hospital he went back to his unit and it was business as usual for a few months until the night he woke up and his bed was on fire due to his mutation surfacing again. After that, things would never be the same. It started to affect his work and more and more incidents began to occur. Although he managed to teach himself some limited control over his powers, full control managed to escape his grasp.
Although with plenty of opportunities both in and out of the Marines, Deke decided to focus on trying to gain control of his powers. After a few months drifting from state to state, some research pointed him to a place in New York. Hoping that he would finally gain control over his mutation he pointed his car in the direction of New York and started driving.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: N/A Sample RP: The cargo truck bounced as it rode through the unpaved roads that wound through Camp Leatherneck. In the back, Corporal Deke Vickers struggled to hold on as they hit a particularly large bump. He cursed as he crashed back onto the hard seat, slamming his head against the armor plate that comprised the troop carrier on the back of the truck. He took a deep breath as the truck started to slow down and slid to a halt. The Sergeant of the Guard jumped out and let down the ladder that led up into the troop carrier where Vickers sat alone. The SOG poked his head up and motioned him off.
“This is your stop Vickers, hurry up.”
Vickers just shook his head, grabbed his rifle and jumped down, immediately wishing he hadn’t as his knees throbbed in pain from the nearly 75 pounds extra his combat gear added to his athletic frame. The new flak jacket was taking a little to get used to and he felt like a turtle about to be flipped on his back but he just grimaced and faced the SOG
“Alright Vickers, you’ve been assigned to ECP 2. This is the main entry control point on base for TCN driven cargo trucks. The rest of the guys here have been working about a month so you can pick up job from them but the basics are to get the drivers out of the trucks and two people search him while the rest search the truck with the dog. Got it?”
Vickers stared for a moment before nodding his head
“Roger that Sergeant, I think I got it”
The Sergeant seemed pleased and jumped back into the cargo truck and it immediately took off. Vickers watched it for a moment then turned towards the group of Marines, Soldiers, and Brits looking at him. He walked up to them and took his helmet off to wipe the sweat from his eyes.
“How’s it going guys? Corporal Vickers but you can just call me Vick. I’m replacing Corporal Bretter as the NCO in charge at this ECP. Normally I would have done a left seat-right seat but since Bretter had to go on Emergency Leave I’m hitting the ground running. That being said, who can give me an overview on what normally goes on here?”
The Marines and Soldiers started to explain to him basically exactly what the Sergeant had said to him earlier when one young Lance Corporal spit on the ground and looked up at Vick.
“Nothing ever happens here Corporal, it’s a BS duty since these Hadjis know better then to mess with us because they know if they look at us wring we are going to light their jingle trucks up”
Vick just fixed him with a glare before putting his helmet back on.
“Be that as it may Johns, we have to be prepared for anything. Be professional, do what I say, and we won’t have any problems. Understood?”
A chorus of grunts and other acknowledgements met him and he could tell that they were less than thrilled to be out here but he couldn’t blame them. It was the middle of Afghani summer and the temperature would break 120 sometimes. But, most of them were still Marines and they would suck it up. The others would learn that complaining would not make them very popular with him.
“Alright, I’ve been told that trucks start showing up around 0800. While we still have time I’m going to go check on the gunner in the tower. You guys just take it easy and make sure you’re pounding water. I don’t want to have to carry one of you back because you’re dehydrated”
He turned around and made the short walk over to the small tower that contained the 50 cal that overlooked the gate and the ECP. It was a small box made of wood and covered by cammie netting which afforded it some shade, which was his main reason for wanting to go up there. The sun was barely up and it was already uncomfortable. As he walked up the short steps to the tower the Marine there turned around and nodded at him.
“How’s it going Corporal? I‘m Lance Corporal Bell”
Vick just nodded and leaned on the short wall that the machine gun sat on. He stared up at the rising sun for a moment then turned to Bell
“How long you been on this duty Bell?”
The Marine laughed and shook his head
“Too long Corporal”
Vick smiled at his answer
“Who you with and what do you do?”
“I’m with the Engineer Battalion and I operate heavy machinery, forklifts mostly. What about you Corporal?”
Vick sighed and took his helmet off again, setting it down on the wall next to him.
“Intel. I work on computers. Boring stuff like that”
Bell smirked and took his helmet off as well. Vick just sat there staring out across the vast stretch of nothingness that surrounded Camp Leatherneck before looking at Bell again
“So anything ever happen out here Bell?”
Bell just shook his head almost disappointed
“Nope, a whole a lot of nothing”
Vick made a sound of disgust and sighed loudly. Johns was right, this was a BS duty. He was going to sit here, sweat buckets, and do absolutely nothing except search smelly TCNs and their ridiculous trucks all day. He would be more productive sitting back in the office watching movies all day.
His Major had tried to tell him that there was a good chance he would see action while he was out on this duty but looking around he had the sneaky suspicion that it would be two months of nothing but being miserable. He turned and saw the first truck of the day coming down the road towards them so he put his helmet on and started to walk out of the tower.
