The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>> “They fired my brother, and I am mad!”
Sam sighed heavily. It sounded like a kid but with mutants and the red skin he couldn’t be too sure. Looked like less action and more talking. It wasn’t always a bad thing. It could have been said that others on the team thought Sam could use some work on his diplomacy. Something the icemancer had little patience for now. Between mystics and everything else going on in his life he was short on it.
>>>”Hey Sam,”
Sam waved a hand to Shin, a voice he recognized instantly. The bulge on his chest was new though. The body heat was off and it caused him to look at the shardmancer as he approached. Kealey had the baby!!!! Ever since his mind control years ago the icemancer melted when he saw the little kids. He was a father, well not really. Those kids were an illusion but the feelings were still there. Sam at one point was a father. The best job he never actually had.
His expression went from irritated to ‘awwwwwww’ then to irritated again. Sam got distracted and sidestepped a bubble. ”She had the baby!?!?” Sam asked looking back to bubble boy. ”Give me a second. We can talk in a second. Keep doing... whatever you are doing.”
”When?” Sam asked Shin. ”How’s Kealey?” he asked as a follow up, then added. ”Wait does she know your in the field with them?” Sam pointed as a bubble flew between them. ”She’s gonna kill you... shes gonna kill me?” he asked wondering if he was now an accomplice.
“Hey!” the kobold yelled as Sam turned back to see a bubble engulfing his finger. The icemancer got distracted once again and turned to see his finger get pulled towards the bubble as it was expanding trying to engulf the childless X-man.
”Sorry! Not ignoring you. But... baby!” ice erupted from his fingertip that was engulfed causing the inside of the bubble to fill with ice and snow causing it to get bigger in the process. ”Not what I was hoping would happen...” the bubble engulfed his forearm as Sam kept trying to walk backwards faster than the growing bubble.

”What the **** is going on today?” Sam asked to himself and anyone on the comms that wanted to chime in. It was like everyone decided to do some crime today. Everyone one... Another beam of blue shot from his hands as he slide from high above the streets pinning a purse snatchers feet to the ground with a block of solid ice. He face planted and the lady chasing him grabbed her purse and waved to CS before running off. He hoped it was her purse at least, with today it could not have been but he didn't’ have time to investigate.
His private line with Liz chimed back with the first response. ”17 huh?” he smirked making the count himself with delay. Did apartment fires count as one or multiple? He’d count it for one right now. Even though she was beating him. ”Impressive. I’m guessing bluffing your way to get them to surrender?” he asked as he looked off to the side and saw a bunch of birds flying low behind some buildings.
Her powers scared him sometimes. To be able to control that many at once? The thought just gave him a headache. ”Well with that purse snatcher I just got that brings it up to ten for me. Still think the apartment complex on fire counted for more but it’s still early and I’m enough of a pessimist to know that there are more people up to know good.” he said diving low as two men climbed out of a storefront window carrying a handful of appliances.
Another beam of blue before he erupted the slide back over the buildings. The beam of ice hit the pair and their legs became frozen to the ground in a thick chunk of ice. ”You’ve been calling them all in right?” Sam asked imagining Liz trying to multitask while controlling all those birds. Again, her abilities scared him sometimes.
Another direct line was to a handful of officers in armored vehicles following the icemancer. They were on pick up while he was sliding around the city. He set it up so Metazoa had a team following the birds as well. More than likely from a distance.
”..... Got reports of a flash mob in times square. Private Dancer escaped from prison last night. You think he can control that many birds?” he asked with a smirk and changed directions with the news of the mob.

There was a several reflections of light as Sam slowed his next punch. Shards. No... No... No! No!”NO!” his punch slowed as it was encased by his friend. Someone who didn’t understand the situation. Someone who right now was getting in the way. ”NO!” the shards danced around the icemancer quickly forming a cage around him. ”Shin! SHIN! STOP! I’M NOT DONE YET!” Sam would have stopped eventually, after he beat Travis an inch away from death. He earned that much at least.
Ice surrounding his fist was pierced by the shards. They were sharp, unexpected and dug into his skin as he tried to power through the constructs from his teammate. That was when he felt weightless, ”SHIIIIIN!!!!” he flew away from Travis. His vision obscured by the light catching the shards at different angles. He tried to look past them, command his clone to finish the beating but he was too slow, and the construct didn't’ have a humanlike shape anymore meaning when he was pulled out of range it remained motionless.
Parts of his body felt warm. He was bleeding. It didn’t matter where from. It happened fast and Sam was trying to focus on making sure the lesson he was teaching Travis was finished. It wasn’t. It might be one of Sam’s greatest regrets later in life. He was flying upwards as his body shifted in the armor, more cuts. More blood filled the inside of his ice armor that was being cut from every angle. His powers tried to resolidify the ice but for every inch it healed it was also cut in another location.
”SHIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN!!!!!!!” roared Sam as his anger and frustration had no decent outlet.

”You serious?” Sam sighed loudly when he got there. Bubbles. Everywhere. This wasn’t the call he was expecting. Usually when he got a call there was less... a bubble floated by with a half eaten sandwich in it as someone chased it. Whimsical was the word he’d use to describe it. In fact this would have been a great job for the Trainees.
There were none around though so Sam sighed. Maybe he’d have one or two follow him around when he went out on patrol? No, not all of them could move as fast as he could in the air and the ones that could, he’d doubt he’d have the patience to play babysitter.
Might as well make this quick. ”I get it.” Sam said finally wanting the man to shut up about deadlines and how behind they already were. The man complaining about headaches and unions was starting to become the thing he was complaining about. ”Mischief isn’t normally something we deal with but... I get it.” Sam said as he sidestepped a bubble inches from his face. No telling what they did when they popped but Sam had a feeling he was going to figure it out.
”Have everyone take a lunch. I’ll handle this.” he said as he started to walk over towards the mutant. ”Any reason you are making bubbles here?” Sam asked trying to understand the situation a bit more.
Nothing else mattered. He needed to make an example of Travis. They’d be the example why not to mess with the X-men anymore. Why they should never set foot on the mansion grounds. Why never to experiment with magic on a mutant. The icemancer didn’t care what happened to him. He wasn’t thinking clearly. Either he dealt with this, or Mirror would have.
Sam didn’t have a family like Maya did. Eve would be okay, the others he took under his wing were already grown off to school as constructive members of society. Cora on the other hand... she might understand. She might not. Either way Sam was going to go through with it.
Travis fell, looked forward then looked back. There wasn’t panic on thier face. Shame. All this ice and snow Sam figured he’d put some fear into them. No matter. Once he started he’d get the reaction he was looking for.
The clone was the first to arrive, sending a kick right to the gut trying to get them to double over. The slide slowed as Sam arrived touching down. He walked casually over as the clone continued to assult the downed mystic.
>>>”Sam! STOP THIS! It’s a bad idea.”
It was Shin, a good friend. The icemancer didn’t have a ton of time to do what needed to be done. Shin could stop him with his powers when he arrived. There were few who could counter his power right away. Jorge and Mirror being the fastest with their abilities Shin couldn’t stop his aura effect just the immediate one without injuring the icemancer.
He ignored his friends command. It was a bad idea but it didn't’ matter. A lesson had to be taught. The mansion and all it’s residents were off limits. The clone grabbed one of Travis’s hands and dragged the mystic up only to be smacked down by an icy fist from the icemancer. The clone kicked again.
>>>”It’s not,” Necessary. Hey. What is going on?!”
This time Sam responded, lifting Travis up by the collar as the clone grabbed both arms and held the mystic upright. ”A LESSON!!!!” Sam shouted. Not aware that the camera crew was already scrambling to film the whole thing. ”Isn’t that right Travis. You are going to be the first example that is long overdue. You know how many times I had to rebuild my home from zealots like you!?!??”
The icemancer didn't’ wait for an answer. It was too many. He threw an uppercut into his stomach, hard. He didn’t hold back. There was too much rage pent up, years of it. Years of suppressing what he was trained to do. Years of suppressing the monster that Travis believed him to be. He was right. Sam was a monster. He had just been trying to hide it for all these years. Pretending to be something he wasn’t. Someone who could redeem their previous deeds.
He was loud, he didn’t care. Sam was pissed. The camera crew were set up now. ”YOU WILL REMEBER THIS! EVERYONE HERE IS UNDER MY PROTECTION! YOU EVER THINK OF TESTING YOUR MAGIC ON ONE OF US EVER AGAIN, REMEMBER THIS!” Right hook to Travis’s face followed by an uppercut from he left.
Ice climbed up Travis’s feet pinning him in place as the ice clone started to change shape to wrap around the torso of the mystic pinning him further but pulling his arms back so Sam had clear targets unhindered by the body’s natural reaction to guard itself. Another punch to the face and Sam continued to shout, ”She was a child and you used her as a Guinea pig! She’s human! More than I can say about you!” Another punch to the face, as the clone bent one of the arms in an unnatural angle until it broke.
”YOU WILL NEVER TOUCH MY FAMILY AGIAN!!!!” another punch to the gut. Sam felt a rib snap under his fist and he pulled back. His lone eye had tunnel vision. His thermal sense however detected others around but paid them little mind. Shin was there, he knew that but everyone else? It didn’t matter. No one was going to stop him from making an example. It was clear, everyone thought the X-men were too weak. The mansion was too weak.
The unbroken arm became the next focus as Sam eyed it then leaned in towards the beaten mystic and whispered, ”I wonder, can you cast with all the fingers in your hands broken. What about frostbite?” the com in his ear would have picked the threat, meaning Shin and whoever else on the X-men were listening in could hear.

They didn’t. That was why Sam was taking this so hard. Mirror was one of the least selfish people he knew, in fact the mere thoughts he was having on ending Travis so Mirror didn’t have to would have pissed Mirror off. That was okay though. His friend didn’t need to take a life. To know what it’s like. To see another face when you nightmares that won’t end. Sam already had them. If he could prevent his friend from having that... it was fine by him.
”I’ll do what I can.” he said not promising. Those could be broken. Like his promise to keep conversations drama free for a friend. He thought he was able to do that but it was clear he couldn’t. Hence the current topic.
”Surprised you aren’t trying to stop me.” he said not making eye contact. ”I have to find the guy first.” he had law enforcement looking for him. He had vigilantes looking for him. He even had Carrick looking for him. If he called in any more favors others would be looking for Travis for different reasons.
Taking another sip of his coffee he sighed and decided that this conversation should end before anything else he might come to regret is said. ”It was good seeing you Lee. Sorry I couldn’t keep it drama free.” the icemancer stood.
”Tell Kev, I already got sometimes saved in the danger room when he is ready. It will be good to see you two more.” he said honestly before excusing himself. ”Call me if you need anything ya?” and with that Sam went for the exit.

”I don’t know. Magic is new to us and we are just figuring this stuff out. Becca lost her powers when she drank something that gave her access to magic. So it isn’t to hard to believe it is related that way.” his tone took on a more cold one as he explained. This was a subject he had been investing so much time recently.
”Iris?” Sam asked, ”She’s fine, she's young. She still doesn’t know why things are different now but she knows something is.” his hands indented the cardboard cup even more as he continued, ”She gets sad when I pick her up and don’t turn pink or sprout a tail. Depending on the day of the week.”
Her hand touched his and he stopped crushing the cup. He looked down at her hand on his for a second and listened to her words. ”Doesn’t feel that way. Opposite actually. The amount of times they pulled me out of the gutter saved me. I couldn’t even catch the guy that did this.” he sighed loudly pulled his hand away from hers and scratched the back of his head.
”I’m doing everything to make sure they don’t get a chance to do anything to him. I’m going to be the one to do it.” he said truthfully.

”Not just the mansion. It’s fine now.” he said glossing over it was destroyed recently. There was no way she didn’t know about that incident. They had done everything in their power to protect the students and they did. Sure he and some of the others who fought the mystics got injured heavily but that was what the healers were for and that was what he was there. To take the beating so no one else and to. It was something he excelled at.
”Bigger.” he said sighing. No point in lying right? ”X-gene or not the students there are safe. Kevin will be safe there. They are well protected and they will continue to be. This was an isolated incident. One that I’m going great lengths to insure never happens again.” his hands tightened around his coffee cup causing it to warp.
His jaw clenched and he had the urge to yell but he fought it. Just verbalizing the situation was enough to make him want to hit something. ”Maya and Becca’s kid Iris... her mutation was stolen by some... fanatic mystic who wants to remove X-genes.”
”I had him... and I was cocky and he got me good.” the images of Becca and Maya and Iris flashed through his mind. The look of Maya had. He had been there. Lived it. He was going to make sure they never have the chance to do anything like that.
”I’m worried what Maya is going to do to this person if I’m not there to stop them. I’m worried about my friend, Lee.” he was sad and angry. He knew the feeling of not being able to protect his kids. They might have been illusions but they were real to him all the same.

>>>”Thanks Sam. I appreciate it,”
The icemancer smiled in response. It was a sheepish smile but while he could lie to a lot of people, Lee made it difficult. Sam didn’t say anything at first but then nodded his head into a cup of coffee. Wondering what he should say next. Should he just leave?
>>>”Things have really been that bad since the last time we talked?”
”I used to be good at lying.” he said finally. ”Long life.” he finally answered. ”It’s been worse before but it could be better.” he was struggling with his own coping mechanisms for his anger and frustrations. He hadn’t been as bad with the drinking as the past but his need to exhaust himself instead of dealing with the real problems were as bad as ever.
”I’ll spare you the details but I’m alright. Really. I will be at least. It’s everyone else I’m worried about.” he said looking to his sooted knuckles. One of them looked like there was a speck of blood ot it. He ignored it and took another sip of his drink.
”Maybe I should get going...” he said finally looking to the door. She requested no drama. He thought he could do that for her. She deserved it. Especially what she had been through with Tarin.

”Yeah... I get it. Teenagers rarely think about things though.” Sam said in agreement. Sam said almost forgetting who the father was. Tarin could medium. They could see, speak and be possessed by dead people. That would have given the icemancer cause to get the screening. Energy vampire was one thing but seeing ghosts and hearing their voices... Sam shuddered and shook his head before taking another sip of coffee.
”Ah, the coffee dates.” Sam said remembering vaguely. They were friends then too, a bit more awkward situation then between the two of them but that was a decade ago and since then Sam grew as a person. Since then he had run into a telepath, lived countless lifetimes with a family that were a mind game for said telepath. Became an alcoholic, got clean. Adopted a friend who became a kid and even deaged himself.
”Don’t take this the wrong way but I vaguely recall you in the morning. I get hit in the head a lot.” he said chuckling, the mansion healer DocProf would argue too much. ”I just remember you could out drink me when it came to coffee.” he said honestly.
”Nice. I got a list of a few if you ever need any. Ones a former student at the mansion. Might have seen him or heard of him. Irish kid, more than trouble but he can get a crowd going... he’s booked for the next decade out on St. Patty’s day though. Lost a bet.” Sam didn’t mention who lost. Both parties would continued to argue that they were helping the other out.
The question should have been something Sam was prepared for. Staring off into the distance he wondered what was a safe topic for her other than his work at the bar. He was still trying to convince Lee to come around more. So should he mention the fact that it was destroyed recently? That they had mystics coming around so often to put wards on the school? That he had been tracking someone that broke into the school to test some magic on Mirror and Becca’s child without consent and stealing their toddlers daughters mutation? Something Sam personally felt responsible for seeing as he was laid out by the same person?
Should he talk about the summoned demon he slayed? That was kinda cool. No... Should he talk about Eve. She was a student at the mansion and now his adopted daughter. Also the resident firebug. No, that might fall under the drama category. He’d be the first to admit it was a weird situation. ‘Drama’ something Sam had decided to avoid for the sake of Lee.
Maybe the time he got kidnapped recently and had to have Liz and Carrick rescue him from his evil Ex-telepath that first played mind games with him? No... that probably wasn’t a good topic either. Nor the multiple relapses with alcohol he had recently. She didn’t need to know that.
He didn’t make eye contact. ”Same old song different day to boogie.” he finally said deciding that most of his life would have fallen under the drama category.

Nodding and fully understanding he agreed. No one should have to deal with bigoted parents. It was also more reason in Sam’s opinion to have Kevin do the screening for the X-gene, but he wasn’t going to continue suggesting it. Lee had her reasons.
He almost choked on his next sip of coffee at the groan. Was it that far out of the question? He knew Lee always had strong opinions about his team and the work they did but a groan? Her gaze was what solidified his thoughts. Grabbing his chest and coughing a few times. ”ooof. Yeah, I get it. For you, though if he asks anyone else running the teams you might have to talk to them about it.”
”Though it might be easier to convince the other team leaders if you came around a bit more.” he held up his hands to frame Lee’s face from afar. ”Maybe with a rookie status. You could pull off the suit. Heck you might even lead his team.” he was teasing now and knew it was a long shot but he still liked to surrounded himself with people he trusted. They were hard to come by as of late.
”Sounds like he is a handful now. Must get that from you. Energy to spare. Interesting.” he mused as he stroked his chin. Surprised the hairs on his face didn’t burn off during the recent altercation. Did he need a shave?
”I’m looking forward to seeing Kevin again. Sure he’s a cool kid.” realizing he was pulling the conversation to the team again he took a moment to sip his coffee and stare at the soot on a few of his knuckles.
Looking back up to Lee, ”How’s everything else? Feel like it’s been a bit since I saw you last.”

”Fair enough.” Mothers knew best. That was something Sam had to remind himself during the conversation. ”No telling if a planned fight even triggers a mutation.” he added. Usually it was a time of high stress or puberty. Lee’s from the sound of things was common timeframe for powers to emerge. His own not so common.
”He’s your kid. He’ll probably keep me in there longer than I want.” he smirked into his coffee mug. ”And if your powers are hereditary or some variation of it I’m sure he’ll have more energy than he’ll know what to do with.” Sam said raising his eyebrows.
”It would just be a check if he has the X-gene.” there were other methods to determine if he had powers what they would be. Precogs were unreliable at best though. The future was never set in stone from his understanding.
”Who knows, might even want on the Junior X- team.” he said floating the idea. Something he was sure Lee would disapprove of. The young X-men roster was full of teenagers who wanted to do good. Far less dangerous than the actual team but they did get to travel a bit. Usually search and rescue or crowd control.

”Don’t I know it.” he said smirking and already shying away from the swat before it landed. He was teasing of course but also knew what Lee was capable of if she wanted to land something more than a playful swat. His lone eye shifted from the tables and chairs being so close together. There be a lot of collateral damage. Good thing he wasn’t worried about that.
”He still doesn’t know what his mom is capable of?” Sam asked chuckling, ”You want to throw some gloves on and go a few rounds to show him off what you can do? Doubt he’d want me to teach him after that.” how much did Kevin know about Lee? What she can do. Sam figured the energy leeching was obvious but then again, Kevin could be immune to it.
”I’ll share some stories with him next time I see him. Might put you in a whole knew light.” Sam said jokingly.
”Doc can run a scan on him. They stopped doing the blood tests a while ago. Found out too many kids don’t like needles. Doesn’t help if they burst into flames while doing it.” or when he was a child freeze the doctor who performed the blood draw. He didn’t say the last part. Lee didn’t need to know all the details.
Sam took a sip of his coffee and then cleared his throat,”Might sound like I’m lecturing, I’m not. Just an observation. Can’t keep him in a bubble. Kids get into fights, be better to know what he is capable of then to have his powers trigger unexpectedly. At least he’s telling you he wants to join a fight club. Bring him by to check out the campus at some point. We just remodeled. He can see the danger room. Kids love that place.” the mansion was destroyed recently hence the ‘remodel’ though he was pretty sure Lee would have hear about it at some point. Even if she was trying to avoid the news.

”Thirteen?” Sam asked out loud over his coffee mug. ”Wow... I feel old now. You must feel that all the time.” Sam said teasing. ”Could be worse though. I was crashing helicopters when I was thirteen.” Sam didn’t have much of a childhood in fact his stopped quickly when he was five.. Something Lee knew enough about and something Sam didn’t like bringing up other than the occasional joke at his own expense.
”He’s starting at the mansion too soon right?” Sam asked curiously, ”I got a few self defense classes that would give him a good head start on the other kids in that league if he joins.” Sam said grinning.
Another sip of his coffee made him really appreciate that second shot of espresso in it.` It also gave him a second to think of the best way to ask. Especially if Kevin was going to attend the mansion soon. ”So... any signs of Kev getting powers? He Lifting cars yet?” he specifically left out Lee’s side effects with her powers. That was one of the subjects he learned to tiptoe around over the years.

The tree slowed the fall for Travis and gave his clone a little trouble as it bounced off a large limb or two before falling to the ground. Clones don’t feel. They are just tools to be willed and controlled, an extension of the icemancer, who was feeling more than enough for several clones.
Memories flashed before him as he erupted from the window. He was in a small room wondering where his parents were, scared and alone. ”TRAVIS!” instead of following the mystic down he went up, lifted into the air by a construct of ice that rose up next to the mansion. Snow fall was next. The lone eye fixed onto the one who broke into his home not once but twice now. How many more times? It didn’t matter. Never again.
He was ten, chained to a bed his arm sore from being poked and prodded. They needed blood samples. He was a child though and didn’t understand why they needed his blood. He was alone. The ice clone rushed after Travis. Clones didn’t feel. They don’t tire.
The platform under Sam’s feet shifted downward heavy snow started to fall. His hands were raised now, pointing in the direction Travis was running. The blue beam connected with the ground and a mound of ice started to form, sharp spires protruding out waiting to snare the man that was experimenting on his loved ones. It was meant to slow Travis. Redirect him to the exit. The main one.
The clone continued to run it shouted after the person it was chasing, “Travis!”
It was the first night in the mansion. The first night he felt safe. The first restful sleep he every had.
Ice rose up under his feet as he slid downwards accelerating with a slide towards his target oblivious to the few students that were running back to the mansion. Some slowed mouth open as they saw one of their teachers chasing someone. Sam was also oblivious to the cars that were gathered. The only thing he was focused on was making Travis pay.
