The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She gave it some thought. She gave it more thought. She gave it a lot of thought. Then she said she'd give it a try. He smiled a bit. "It ain't gonna he daisies and roses, Juniper. It's hard work... But it's better than prison." After she confirmed, he roused, and appeared to be getting ready to leave. "Okay, I got a lot of work to do to get this rolling."
He started to gather up his papers and notes as she kept talking, looking up as she stumbled over her words. A grimace took over his features for a second before he piped in. "Well, I wouldn't worry too much about that." She asked about Xavier, and he packed away his last folder before hoisting the bag up and over a shoulder. "Dunno..." He headed toward the door. "Your, uh... brother has been waiting to see you. I'll send him in. Take care, kid. I'll see you soon."
He opened the door, and nodded to the two officers posted outside. There was also one posted in the room below, and one on lookout outside the building as well.
John... Interesting. He'd gotten sketches of the man from others, but the witnesses always seems distracted while giving the details. Maybe it had something to do with a mutation? He tucked the idea away for further investigation. So, Keith had brought someone along to kill them?
Who?
He thought back to any reported homocides in the area. "We'll need the location where that occured..." There was that strange suicide... Maybe it was mislabled? More investigation was needed.
She did confess to having and using a gun before he even brought it up. The autopsies had discerned that the men had both died of asphyxiation due to lung damage. She hadn't killed them, though there had been a fight.
It was bumpy area, but they could prove she hadn't been the cause of death, and that would count in her favor. His proposal wasn't off the table. Now, he had her wondering what it was.
No better time than now, right?
"Juniper... I want to suggest you for a program at the mansion that has been used a few times before... To have people serve their sentences instead as a form of long term community service... As a retainee of the X-Men. It's not a spot on the team, or anything, though that ain't out of the question. It's a good will measure assuming you won't flee. You could help a lot of people. I would be stickin my neck out a little bit, but I think I can swing it if I vouch for you." He sat for a second to let it soak in, before speaking up once more. "Would you be willing to try that?"
He gave another nod at her statement about her not being friends with Azar. By all accounts, the dude didn't have many friends. Not real ones, anyway. Still, why was he involved? Of all of the things he'd put together, that part made the least amount of sense.
He pushed past it. "The diamond thing... Let's talk about that." He reached over to his bag, digging a bit before he pulled out a slightly bent file. He opened it up, and produced a fuzzy CCtv photo of her next to an old man with a baseball cap. Pulling a few more photos, he placed them down one by one. "Who is this man? He is good at his job... He managed to hide his face from every camera in the bank, and even streetside surveillance as well... All we'll have on him is what you can give us. Anything you can give will help you out as well."
He was honestly taken aback when she opened up right away as soon as he mentioned his leg work on her prior burglaries. He appreciated the honestly, though it added... a lot to her rap sheet. That brought them to the Molotov Murderer again.
"Anything you can recall will be helpful. From height, to build, the fabrics in his clothing, anything. I'll get a sketch artist in here after we are done for both the older man, and the attacker." He looked up for a moment, and then set his pad and pencil aside.
"This is where it gets interesting... Juniper... You're in a lot of trouble. I can't sugar coat it, you're looking at prison time. A lot of it." He watched her face, her eyes, to gage her reaction. And then he dangled the carrot. "Or... Well. There is a second option. It's not a sure shot, but there is a precedent for it..."
He noted her expression change when he mentioned her uncles death. He only answered with a nod. As she went on, about going to another world. About creatures, and the like. He simply wrote down the gist of it, dates, times.
"Were you alone... When you disappered? Or... Was Azar with you already, then?" He paused for a second. "He... Passed away. I don't know how close you were, but the burns were too much. He likely went quick, if that helps." It probably didn't, if they were friends.
He blinked as she talked about the info in the papers. "Yeah... and I... Well, I did some digging, Juniper... You landed in a few places before you ended up here. All of those places, in the times when you were around... Similar heists took place." He shook his head. "It doesn't look good... Who ever gets put on the case will likely make the link as well.
He gave her a second to let that sink in before she asked a strange question. "How did he... Azar killed him, didn't he? I mean, he was immolated. They only confirmed it was him through DNA evidence." He took note of the strange question before moving back to the question of her presence in the alley.
"Juniper... The person who killed Azar... did you see them?" Like he said, they had a lot to talk about... This was a good start.
He nodded silently as she replied to his question. "Well... It sorta looks like one did. Why don't we start there? What happened to you? Where did you go after your uncle was killed?" He was careful about what he said. He set his coffee aside, and pulled out a pad of paper.
After some digging, out came a pencil. "I'm not recording any of this... I want to give you the benefit of the doubt... The truth is... I know a lot. I can tell you what I know. I can tell you what I have an idea about, and I can tell you the crazy stuff other people think. In the end, though, it's better if you tell me what you can. After that... We'll talk about what happens next."
Either way, they were going to be there a while. That was fine. THe nurses would come in with food for her... in small amounts, so's not to overwhelm her system. Drips would be replaced, and she would be instructed on how to adjust her bed, etc.
"No one but me knows you are up yet... We can get the story straight now before things get out of hand."
He had coffee. It was necessary at this point, as he'd been up nearly 24 hours. Not waiting here, or anything. He was a busy man, after all. He sent an envious glance toward the young woman laying on the bed before him before taking a sip of his coffee and looking back down at the case file before him. She'd been sleeping for three days; not comatose, mind you, just recovering from one heckuvan ordeal. Apparently she was severly malnourished, and had wounds from what looked like a wild animal attack.
He wasn't reviewing that right now, though. He was looking at the info from the attack. What did they call them? The... Molotov Murderer? Well, he supposed it was fitting. Four attacks, three of them fatal, and no solid witnesses. Until now. Not even Andrea had a solid recollection of the attacker.
He looked up when he heard a faint, scratchy voice, sitting up in his chair. "Nope... Still hanging in there..." He stood from his seat, looking down at the young woman as she came to. She was still in a pretty rough state, though the rest had done her some good.
"Don't go trying to get up or anything... You'll prolly be in here a few more days, yet. How do you feel?" He reached over and pressed the call button; the nurses had instructed him to if she woke up. "Don't panic or anything... but we got a lot to talk about... And you're gonna hafta stay for it. No running. Can you promise that?"
It was a stroke of some sort of luck that he happened to be out on patrol when the call came out. He didn't get a lot of time for it these days. He'd taken on a few more shifts after Juniper's dissapearance, hoping to find her...
When he landed on the city street, a couple of officers were already clearing people away from the area. The paramedics were arriving to take a look at the reported burn victim. It didn't take Saph a whole glance to know that he was dead... or she, honestly. It was hard to tell. This was the fourth murder like this... it looked like the same handiwork, though... he didn't see any glass yet. Maybe it had been initiated somewhere else?
They had fallen onto the street from the sidewalk, it looked like. Odd, though, they were facing outward, as if they'd fallen over, and been turned around. Still, he was able to come to the comclusion that he hadn't been running along the sidewalk, but instead he'd come from the alleyway perpendicular to the street. That was the actual scene of the crime.
He motioned to one of the officers, and headed into the alley. A fight had taken place here. "Gather any witnesses, we have to... Hey, another body." He hurried further toward a slumped form in the dark space. Turning her over, he let out a sort of gasp of surprise, in spite of himself.
"Jesus... small world... Paramedic! We have injured, here!" She was still breathing, but out of it. Jesus, it looked like she'd been through a lot over a stretch of time. "We need to get her in an ambulance... Hang in there Juniper..."
He choose to ride with her to the hospital... He had plenty to talk to her about, sure, but at this point... She was very possibly the only confirmed witness to a Molotov Murderer slaying...
She looked reassured. He knew that the poor kid was more than a little distressed with the progression of her mutation. She tried to hide it, sure, but it was hard to miss when you spent any real time with her. He nodded to her statement, and leaned back, picking up his coffee again to take a sip.
She asked how long dream them had been in love. He quietly spit his coffee back into his cup, hiding a sputter before wiping his face, and taking a breath. "Eh... I never said anything like that... It's just..." He looked at her for a second, and shook his head a bit. She was too clever for her own good. "I don't know... The dream lasted two years. We... didn't really speak it. Not til the last few hours before our deaths." And they had died quite brutally, too. He didn't mention that.
"Can't underestimate the human need to bond, right? And that's what you are. Human, even if you don't always feel like it-" He raised an eyebrow at her trailing off. Huh. Well, it was none of his business!
He shrugged at her as she mentioned the dream again. "Can't say it was too hard. Most of my existence in that world was pain. Honestly, it really put my life in this world into perspective... Well, almost, because I hit a bit of a rough patch soon after. Anyway, you can see a lotta crazy theories about it if you look it up, but most people say it's a sorta mass hallucination or somethin."
Jr. Stirred. Saph locked in place, looking to Megan to make sure she did the same. It was critical to remain silent when he woke up just a little, so that he would go back to sleep, and therefor sleep through the night.

He let out an acknowledging grunt at her advice once more. She was right... He just didn't know what he could do about the fact that she was right. "Here'd the thing. I dunno that she would be agreeing to try because she wants to, or because she's convincing herself it's the right thing to do. I just don't want to put her in that place where her life is ruined because of the decisions we made when she was someone else and jesus @#$^in christ this conversation is giving me a head ache."
He chuckled and raised his coffee in toast at her assholes comment, and took another sip of the lifegiving bean juice.
He froze mid sip at her response to his statement about the both of hers he knew. Setting the drink down, he dropped his feet, and sat forward. "Oh, eh... Yeah. I guess you wouldn't know about any of that... None of you guys would." He looked up, thinking about how to start explaining the strange collective world dream all of New York'd had.
"So... Everyone, including you, sorta... experienced a world where... It was sorta like a dream, but the world had pretty much ended. Nukes goin off everywhere, but the one meant to kill everyone here... didn't go off. So we all had memories of a few years we lived in this world. It was bad. I was burnt from head to toe.... My wife at the time became a... well... a monster. Roach ran a pit where people fought to the death, and... You..." He was looking at the floor, and he found himself smiling a bit as he talked to mostly himself. "You were the only good thing." He self realized after a second. "Eh, you and I teamed up... You sorta... pulled be back to humanity, I guess. I couldn't see, cause fire, but I knew it was you. When the dream ended, I went to see you, and you were... Well, different than you. I knew that, but I guess I thought I would see something I hadn't before. But then we went after Roach, and I saw it again. You." He nodded to himself, finalizing his thoughts in his head.
"Guess what I'm saying, is I've known three yous, and all of them have been different. But all of them are that same good person, deep down." He smiled a bit, looking up at her again. Hey, just because he was in the dumps, didn't mean he couldn't brighten up someone else's day, right?

Saph found himself staring down at his black cup of coffee as Megan spoke on blame. Man, in what world did any 15 year old have any business being this wise? Just... sitting in this room and chatting was better than talking to that bug shrink... Partially because the bug shrink looked exactly like someone he'd spent the better part of a year trying to kill.
"Yeah... I guess... What I'm sayin is I ain't mad. I can't be. I don't even know where to start, though." He couldn't bring himself to be angry at Shelby for running. Rubbing his tired eyes and taking another sip of coffee, he listened to her talk about trauma. She would know, honestly. She was in Shelby's shoes in a way. Still, where his wife had run away, she was running toward herself, trying to figure out more. "I mean, say we give it a go again? I'm not even the person the old her fell in love with anymore."
They had different things to be a afraid of, looking at their past adult selves. For Shelby it was him, their son, being locked in a family life she didn't choose, and for Megan, it was a struggle with her humanity... the fear of losing it.
"Hey, I dunno, I hear I'm pretty easy to blame for things." He spoke, of course, of the media's tendency to paint him in a bad light, and his overall reputation as a grumpy asshole. He set his coffee to the side on the metal countertop, and placed his hands behind his head, smirking as she sneered at him.
"Heh heh, that's two more times than I studied it. Yeah, I'm sure you'll do fine. You're a smart kid." He looked her way, frowning a bit as he let himself get lost in thought just a little. "A lot musta happened to you... It's like... you're still you. I know you pretty well... But this you... You're so much more... Together? I didn't wanna say it, but both of the yous I know before were sorta doomed in their own ways... This you... I feel like you're gonna be fine." He shrugged. It was a strange tangent, but he couldn't help pointing it out. Wait, had he mentioned the strange future vision to her yet?

"Eh, Can't say I know how to do that... I just hit stuff." He got settled in, kicking his feet up, but taking care to avoid her homework. The veteran superhero looked over to his young old friend as she looked up at him, locking eyes for a second, and then returning to the screens.
"Yeah... Though it was different for me. I was young for... What, a few weeks? She's not turning back. Like I said, I can't blame her; I wouldn't even try." He leaned back to look at the ceiling for a second, as if some form of advice would be up there for him. For now, he just had the surprisingly wise young Megan to speak to.
She'd been joining him on more shifts like this, figuring she wasn't sleeping anyway, and her ability really did lend itself well to what he did. She wanted to learn more about the old her, he was more than willing to have someone with her mindset to talk to, so he ended up sort of taking her on as a bit of a security understudy. Also, she was a really good babysitter. He wouldn't have thought that, knowing the older her, but at this point she was one of the few people he trusted to watch over the tyke.
"Yeah... I dunno. I guess I had this image in my head of how it would go, y'know? In some ways, it went better, but... That feeling. How do you ask someone who doesn't know you to jump into your life again? Raise a kid they've just met?" He grabbed his coffee and set it on his chest, blowing on it gently before looking to a screen showing the front gates. "I couldn't do it."
He paused for a long moment, still watching the monitor. "You're draggin ass on that readin."
"I know I said it before, but you really should be sleepin'."
Saphirus had installed a coffee maker in the security office. It was one of many additions, but it really just didn't make sense to walk downstairs to the kitchen, you know? He walked around another addition, the playpen with the sleeping toddler in it.
He poured his third cup, and looked over to the only other awake person in the room. Right, no coffee for her. More for him. The older mutant walked on over to the security chair and took a seat. "I dunno... I guess she just sorta... Wasn't prepared for it all. Can't say I blame her. She's a kid. She's at a point in her life where her main goal is to... y'know... @#$^off, explore herself and all that shit... And here I am tellin her she has a baby to raise, a husband." He resumed the conversation they had been having before as he turned toward the screens and gave them all a once over.
At night, they focused on exterior cameras and motion detection in the hallways. His run on security was a lot more lax than, say, Silver Streak's back in the day. Mainly it was focused on stopping kids from having dangerous mutant power brawls, and making sure no one was trying to attack, or sneak out at night to get into trouble.
It was a job someone could get done while taking care of a toddler most of the time. "She looked like she was tryin to convince herself to try, but... It doesn't seem fair to me."
There was that satisfying feeling as he made contact with Luna and she was rocketed away from him. Knowing she wouldn't be too hurt by it was nice as well. The danger room made pulling out all of the stops viable. If they were out of it... Well...
Luna would be a smear on the far wall.
No lingering on that, though. He had a cat student climbing up up, sharp claws and all. "Ow. Ow... Okay, kid. Think you've had enough." He picked Hiyori up gently by the scruff, and held her out to the side. "Computer, Remove participants 4, and 3."
The kitty was whisked away to the safe zone along with Luna. Notably, as they passed through the barrier, the protective skin on them would also be peeled off, pulling the smell from them as well. It only smelled in the combat arena. "Good job you two. I got some ideas for your training plans."
What was that? Oh, the kids were on their way to him already? Was that... A Praxipack? A... BackPrax? He snorted to himself as he jumped back beginning the strange behavior of punching himself in the thigh over and over again as he maintained range from He'd been able to keep one eye open through the intensity of the lingering skunk shot, but he was still relying heavily on his sixth sense to sidestep and roll out when she launched herself at him.
They had some sort of plan here. Likely to open him up for an attack from Praxi. It made sense. He kept hitting himself as he avoided them for as long as he needed to, using his decades of fighting people on the street to guide his footwork and positioning. It helped that he wasn't weighed down by a whole other being.
Still, he wouldn't he able to keep this up forever against a younger opponent. The tingle in his hand up to his wrist told him he was prepared to act.
She attempted to loop the hair ribbon around him, but his right hand reached out to clasp it securely. All of the force applied to it would be immediately drained, meaning pulling on it would just be... the strangest sensation. Like applying force to something that both wouldn't budge, but wouldn't resist.
Having her locked up for just a fraction of a second would allow him to duck down and go for a palm to the gut that would send both her and her backperson spiraling backward if they hit.
If not, he would use that same gathered force fling himself off to the side with his left foot, all depending on if he felt that feedback from the blow.

Saphirus Parked the car as quickly as he could without being too fast, or whatever. She was gone before he could shift it into park. By the time he made it to them, Colin already had her in a big old embrace.
He ended up sheepish, to the side. He leaned down to grab up Jr, but the little guy was staring at his mom. He locked eyes with Colin for a long moment before hanging his head. He let JR go to her, and watched. Being protective as he was, he stepped in just in case he needed to scoop the little one up.
Jr reached up. She hesitated. Colin interjected, and Saph scooped the kid up. "Good idea... Have you eaten?" He looked back to Shelby.
The toddler tried to turn to look at her the whole time. It had been a year, but that was still his mom, he definitely didn't forget her. A little goldfish floated about her head curiously as they headed in toward the cozy little house.
It wasn't much, but it was enough for their small family. They walked past some of her paintings on the way down the hall toward the kitchen/dining room. She might see her art studio on the way down the hall to the left. The living room was to the right on the entrance, but it made more sense to sit at the table in the kitchen.
On the way in, he felt Colin's hand rest on his shoulder for a second. He nodded. "I'm okay..." Well enough to say it, at least...
Probably didn't sound very convincing. He sat on at the head of the table, son on his lap, facing out toward her as they settled. A knee bounced softly as the little one squirmed and tried to climb down to get free. "Hold on, Jr... hold on."

"Yeah... yeah." He wiped his face real quick as he blinked his eyes clear. He felt that same hurt, though his wasn't from being lost, but rather feeling loss. Her tone shifted.
It's. fine. It's WHAT?! He looked to her, but paused when he saw a familiar expression on her more youthful face. She did this. It was her in crisis mode. He watched her quietly as she came to the conclusion that she wanted to meet JR.
He nodded. "Okay..." He quietly got into the car as well, and then started it. After a little protest, it did start. He backed out, leaving a little bumper behind, ad then drove the last few miles to the house.
Colin was waiting out front, JR in his arms. He usually was. He was thoughtful like that. He might not be expecting her to be with him as well, though.
