The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Emily could tell that Skye enjoyed being around her, especially this close. And it made her feel at ease too. There wasn't anything wrong with it, surely? "Do you have a VCR then?" That thought amused her. So retro.
She leaned further on Skye when the arm was wrapped around her. "I would yeah. I definitely am not suited to fighting. I have the structural integrity of a fresh breadstick." She chirped quietly her head finding Skye's shoulder again and resting there. She looked up with a mischievous smile. "I thought you were a badass X-women?" She added with a raised eyebrow.
Emily blinked. Oh yeah. They were doing that, apparently. She stood up and moved around the room to switch off the music and the lights, and grabbed the remote, moving back to the bed next to Skye, just not quite as close. "We are watching. The thing. The prequel to the... 3rd version of the movie? I can't remember. Apparently it's bad, but I'm a sucker for body horror."

Emily felt a soft smile breaking through her lips again. The way that Skye reacted to her making an absolute fool of herself was just so warming and nice, she couldn't get over the giddy feeling it produced. "I thought you might." She murmured softly.
She listened intently to Skye's explanation of why she was interested in that particular form of entertainment and leaned her head softly on her girlfriends shoulder. She paid as close attention to the words being said as the feelings that were behind them.
"I'm sorry. That's super lame." She replied, siting up a little bit and watching Skye for a moment before smiling at the follow up suggestion. She reached around Skye and softly pulled her into a warm hug from the side. "I'd be interested in trying that with you."

Emily's cheeks flushed in more. She quickly snapped the door shut and stepped over towards the bed. Just sitting on the corner for a minute. "I uh-" She sat, closing her eyes thinking for a moment, before Skye carried on talking it was cute? She felt her chest tighten.
"I-" She paused again. Damn thoughts caught in her throat. "I don't mind. Not if it's you saying it." Wha- Oh crap. That came out much faster than she had intended it to.
Her hands gently gripped her knees, she looked down at them, purple locks clouding her vision. She cleared her throat slowly. "Yeah, maybe. That'd be good."
"Two people just beating the crap out of eachother for a crowd? Sounds juvenile and fun." She scooted a little closer to Skye.

Emily's arms were basically pointed straight down as Skye entered her room, her fingers gently toying with eachother. She really wasn't sure how to act or stand around Skye now, the whole making out and feelings thing had thrown her whole limited social dynamic totally out of whack. The main thing she was picking up from Skye was the affection as she entered. Nerves and excitement were close on the heals though, and then she said something.
Emily's cheeks flushed in slightly and she fidgeted more, closing her door. "You've never called me Em before." She admitted. A little while ago, she'd probably have punched anyone that did it, that wasn't her father at least. But she definitely didn't want to punch Skye.
"It is a plus side." She admitted, slightly floundering.
Right movies. Other topic, yes good. "I've been watching quite a few." She didn't speak aloud the fact that she'd not watched with another person for a really long time. She tried not too think about that.

Emily nodded appreciatively. Gemma seemed to be more than willing to both give her the time and space to work things out, but also offer quiet support. She really was good at this. Emily had wondered for a little while how long she'd been doing this, but wasn't so crass as to just outright come out and ask what Gemma's age was.
Emily didn't need her empathy to feel the reassurance Gemma was sending her way, nor work out that asking her to sit in on a conversation with a mansion student was an exercise in trust. She actually blushed a little, in surprise to herself. "Okay. Thank you." She began psyching herself up. Yeah. She could do this. Take some notes, not look threatening, impress Gemma and learn something about how she did this whole thing.
And then she almost jumped out of her skin when the door was knocked on. Emily was so used to relying on her power she didn't even notice someone coming in-
Alice??? Surely not. Surely there was another Alice, the odds of Gemma inviting the one student that Emily was both friends with, and knew was getting up to things she should be was-
Shit.
She blinked slowly for a moment. "Er. I'm not in trouble, as far as I know. Why, have you done something?" She narrowed her eyes a little before realising her boss was next to her. She lowered her voice for a quick moment, though Alice would probably hear her anyway. "So you know how I was trying to be a little more social with students here? Alice is one of the people I've been spending time with."

Emily used to not have the patience for games with heavy grind when she was younger. A certain Japanese goliath of a franchise being the only notable exception to that rule. But come on, how could it not be the exception? However she'd found in recent years that games like that were much more palatable. It probably had something to do with the being up so late so often, she found something relaxing in repetitive gameplay loops.
Layers. Hah. "Like an onion?" She ventured with a quirked eyebrow.
Emily found that since she'd been hanging out with Alice the mood in the room had shifted a little. People had stopped noticing her so much, and the ones that had weren't put on edge nearly as much as they had been previously by her. It was strangely irritating.
She rolled her eyes and moved forwards to sit down. "alright, fine. You win."
She sat back down, picked up the controller and dove in. Alice was right dammit, the extra visual information was highly distracting. It was even more distracting than she had been by her own power. She wasn't as awful as she expected, but did none the less receive a spectacular thrashing at the hands of the kid.

How to play this how to play this... Emily paced around her room in circles, occasionally glancing at the mirror and assuring herself that she looked fine. Okay. So she did really want to see Skye, obviously. That was part of the purpose of the text. She just hadn't expected it so soon. And the last few times she'd had someone over for movies it had been a date.
Was this a date? If it was she definitely couldn't let it go the way the others had. She wasn't having a repeat with Skye, no matter what. Not only could she not go through all that crap again, she definitely wasn't losing Skye.
Emily actually sense Skye coming before she got there. It was pretty obvious who it was. So much... excitement. Little sprinkles of other emotions in there, mostly positive. She swung the door open as the second knock was happening and stood there, raising an eyebrow at her friend before chuckling.
"I am so overdressed for hanging out. Don't judge me." She smiled a little timidly. "Come in." Her music was still blaring. Oops.

Emily huffed. She hadn't replied yet. Was her signal bad? Maybe. Was she being ignored? Maybe. Possibly. She sighed. Or maybe Skye was just out at a party blowing off steam or gathering her thoughts or something, Emily couldn't expect people to just answer her whenever. She went and sat in the chair near her desk and began rocking in it in such a way that she'd have been told off if she was in school for the potential of cracking her skull.
She only nearly fell out of her chair when the text came through, flailing arms catching a grip on the desk and bringing her suddenly back down to the ground. She saw Skye's name attached to the message and smiled. Maybe they could start talking after all. Hopefully Skye wasn't replying just asking Emily to bugger off and leave her alone. Although she decided sombrely that it was a possibility.
She blinked a few times. Had- Had she invited Skye over? She read over her text again. Okay, it was official. Americans sucked at subtext. She hastily began replying.
No that's not what I-
...
I mean I guess if that's what you
...
Sounds good. Lets just keep our clothes on yeah? See you soon.
Emily sighed a little. Maybe hanging out would be good, some clarity some space some- She glanced at the mirror on her wall. Did she look like a mess? She felt like one, but her makeup and clothes were pretty impeccable actually. It was all internal. The last time she'd had a girl in her room for movies had been.. intense, and led to problems.

Being an empath and being romantically entangled with another person was... complex. Putting it lightly, but none the less it was true. Emily could tell if a partner was being honest about things, could feel their private sadness, often tell when they had serious misgivings and whether or not what they said they felt for her was genuine. And then there was the whole ethics debate around that which gave her a headache even before bringing affection and love into the esoteric equation.
Being an empath romantically entangled with Skye Sinclaire was something else entirely. Skye almost literally wore her feelings on her sleeve. Emily would've been able to work out Skye's feelings even if the Brit hadn't been able to literally sense them. She liked to think so anyway.
It had taken her significantly longer to dissect and investigate her own feelings however, they were a whole other ball park of twisted web. She had in fact, caught the feelings for Skye.
After the night including gaming and feelings and tipsy make outs, she'd wanted to give Skye space to work out what she really wanted. Emily knew that on a raw, emotional level Skye wanted her. And that made her happy and blush at the same time. However Skye's thoughts were another matter entirely, what she thought about what she wanted could be something more confusing and convoluted that Emily was not privy to.
And so. She'd given her space. She thought that had been pretty clear, she'd hugged Skye when they woke up, and not said anything. Did that not communicate the giving of space? Perhaps Americans were just by nature a little slower in the art of subtlety and subtext.
It had been too long. She wanted to see her friend. Girlfriend. Romantic person. Whatever they were. It didn't really matter that much to her, she just knew that she would like to see her friend. But Skye wasn't biting.
A blitz of halestorm radiated outwards from her speakers while she paced around. She'd thought about getting an apartment in the city a few times, but she'd need a quiet-ish building, and that might prove difficult. Thankfully it was still the holidays, so she was able to get away with it.
To take her mind off of things she'd been binging horror movies. That's right, horror. The Grinch didn't distract her nearly as well as Jason Vorhees tearing through a camp of frisky teenagers. She was just about to queue up a remake of a classic of some description that was probably somewhere between middling and terrible, Lizzy Hale's powerful vocals still backing her angst, when she realised she'd never asked Skye what her preferences were with movies. F--- it.
What do you think of Horror? The movies... I'm about to watch a remake of one of carpenter's classics, or a prequel or something. It's got that chick from Scot Pilgrim in it.
She put her phone away. Message sent. She definitely didn't steal several more glanced at the screen in the next 30 seconds, waiting for the little indication that a person was typing a reply. Nope. Did not do that.

Emily responded with a quiet. "Okay." when Skye described where they had gotten up to, she was sort of nestled into her friends shoulder while she was watching the screen, slowly getting her bearings with what they were doing and how to play again. The drinks had addled her reactions a little to be fair, but she was also super relaxed compared to how she had been earlier. She didn't know what her and Skye's status was, but she was just happy to be around the woman, and feeling her physical and emotional warmth made Emily comfortable.
She slowly picked up the pace and carried on playing the game with Skye, they made slower, but steady progress. "I'm glad you're content, I'm more comfortable than I've been in years." She whispered, her face still resting on Skye.
They carried on playing for a few more hours, Emily occasionally shifting position but basically always snuggling Skye in some way while they hung out before they eventually both fell asleep.
Afterwards, Emily decided to give Skye some space to work out what she wanted. They were both pretty clear about how they felt, so one way or another Emily was going to stick around. But she didn't want to overwhelm Skye too much.

Emily was glad that she was finding so much common ground with Alice. Her relationship with Skye wasn't really founded so much on shared hobbies or thoughts as personality interest and a little admitted altruism on Emily's part. Wanting Skye to learn to like herself and stop wallowing in sadness and all that. Somehow she didn't think Alice would be suffering from problems like that, which amused her.
She nodded, she could understand. It was probably part of the reason that it took her and dad so long to literally get anywhere. But that was kinda part of the fun, she always had it to look forwards to with him, and that made her want to smile. She didn't, of course. It wouldn't do to randomly smile around Alice. Firstly, she might work out some of Emily's internal dialogue, secondly she might get funny ideas about Emily being attracted to her. "Clearly not for everyone."
Emily hadn't read a good book in ages. She had started reading initially when her powers created her sleeping issues, but after meeting with a nice art teacher she'd been encouraged to start drawing and painting more and as a result Emily had began practicing that as a result. "I'm surprised you do much reading." She teased.
Okay, it was at the very least highly distracting. "Er... Alice, I only barely won last time, there are so many people in here it's hard enough for me to concentrate as it is." Her attention was even more divided than normal.

[blcokquote][blcokquote]Emily giggled and grinned, leaning against Skye more and leaning her head down gently to kiss Skye on the cheek. She wasn't even shaking when she made contact anymore. Weird. She guessed exposure and comfort had helped with that. "You. Are very special." She whispered into Skye's ear when she kissed her cheek, the blush was fading now. She was starting to slowly feel more comfortable with her feelings and intimacy with Skye.
Emily had definitely made some progress with her own issues, and not only that she actually felt calmer and more confident than she had been in ages. It wasn't so much a dependence on Skye, as her relationship with Skye cracking through her shell and opening her up to possibilities. It was a healthy growth.
She took the controller and then took the opportunity to rest her head on Skye's shoulder and resume playing. "Uh... where were we, I got side tracked with that awkward flailing." She admitted, thankful her most recent blush was hidden.

Emily nodded in agreement. "Oh yeah, for sure. There is something to dissect with people behaving that way." She thought about it. "The whole repressed feelings and rejection thing. Like the whole old stereotype of the closeted homosexual acting homophobic." She had sometimes wondered how much of that was true with people. She suspected it was definitely more people than not the idiom held true for.
She felt like high fiving Alice. "That's exactly what I do! It works most of the time. My one of my lecturer's tried to deflect it, but I could tell it shut him down internally pretty hard." She wondered if he had a crush on a student or something and didn't want people to know about it... It seemed like it was all the people with hidden shame that behaved that way, or that were up to something nefarious. After all, why protest if you've nothing to hide?
"Well that's something at least. My dad is cool, he's the one that got me into games to begin with. We play a monster hunting thing together online every now and then." She admitted. They tried to anyway, they both kind of sucked. Progress was hard.
She blinked a few times, examining her hud? casually. "Ooooh. You're name is cute, and appealing to your personality. That's for sure." Alice seemed like a mischievous cat to Emily and there was the whole Carrol connection there, so it totally worked. Emily snorted at her own name when she examined it.
She slowly adjusted to it. "I think you'd be surprised, I'm used to having a literal whole extra sense, I don't disorient that easily." She had admittedly when she first got her power, but she'd gone through this before. "Whoa, you were not joking. This is crazy." She had a goofy grin plastered across her lips. "Colourful hair and cool powers." She shook her head in amusement.

Emily was glad that Skye saw it that way. For just a moment she'd felt a sheer panic wash over her thinking that may have been the case, and was immediately thankful that Skye couldn't read other's emotions or thoughts, or she'd be able to embrass Emily more than she already could. Which was probably saying something at this point. Emily had opened up and made herself vulnerable to Skye in a way that she hadn't with other people, she was probably asking for some super teasing by that fact.
The soft kiss felt very warm on Emily's already extremely hot cheeks, she leaned her cheek against Skye's lips softly a little shiver running through her. She'd not felt this at peace in so long, it was so weird. She'd been so confused and stressed out and nervous not an hour ago. And now that she'd opened up with honesty and more importantly Skye had responded she felt super giddy and relaxed at the same time.
She giggled nervously. "I don't mind." She paused for a second, before adding. "Do you know I've barely picked up anybody else's emotions in hours? Even though I'm sure they must've been nearby. Either yours are just particularly loud, or you help me relax. It's nice." She closed her eyes contently.
Emily slowly slipped an arm behind Skye around her waist and softly pulled them closer as Skye leaned. She sighed and nestled against her friend comfortably. "We can do, that was what we were meant to be doing I guess."

The kiss was different. There was just something about it, Emily had kissed people before. She'd even done it in a serious relationship before, but they'd always been way more intense. Funnily, considering the nature of Skye it wasn't intense like that. It was eager sure, but it was also gentle and calm. There was a swirl of emotions overlapping them, and they were all positive, giddy and loving in nature. It was all affection and comfort, and Emily found herself briefly relaxing completely while she was entangled in the kiss with Skye, minus the initial flailing.
Emily was glad that Skye had some nerves going on too. Not that it wasn't a good thing that Skye was sort of confident, but it made Emily's own less than super confident actions a little less awkward. And all she really wanted Skye to be was happy, so when the orange emotions flared up she felt warm and giddy. That feeling was still reverberating throughout her. It was nice.
When they broke off she found herself suddenly on the floor, on her back. Huh. When did that happen? She remembered falling backwards but at the time there were other things on her mind. She sat, breathing deeply, as if taking in excess oxygen would help her get her train of thought back on track. The blush certainly hadn't lessened any. If anything it was just stuck there.
She slowly sat up, scooting so she was also with her back against the bed and murmured quietly. "Neither di-" She felt something caught in her throat. "I didn't plan this when I invited you over, I just wanted to hang out and play games when I did, I swear." She pulled her legs up with her arms and tried to hide her face in them.
