The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If it had been a week earlier, or even a few hours ago Emily might have writhed a little at the internal reaction to Skye, but she kind of already had a good bead on how Skye felt and also.. She decided she didn't care, she just wanted Skye to be happy. And it was really a good thing that she'd worked out her own feelings and felt comfortable sharing them with Skye. The realisation was amusing and felt good.
The twisting of the attraction and love-aligned emotions within Skye made Emily's straight faced blush turn slowly into a shaky smile. Even if she'd already known how Skye felt there was something really special about confessing feelings for a girl and then slowly feeling them respond in kind. She felt the butterflies in her stomach squirming in excitement, and a soft slow happiness and calm started to set across her.
She smiled timidly, still very read. Very nice and calm. "I suppose I d-" Whoa whoa holy crap.
Suddenly Skye closed the gap, and they were. Hm. Kissing. Okay, so Emily was both out of practice, and now confused about her own reaction, as Skye leaned into her and kissed her they sort of switched positions and Emily fell backwards on the cushion a little. Her hands flailed out a little in the open air in panic at both the kiss and sudden motion before they slowly settled back down against the back of Skye's head.
She was a little scared and shaky at first. But then, she leaned into the kiss softly and felt warmth like she hadn't felt in years. This giddy sensation spread throughout her whole mean and she clung to Skye happily.

"If that's what you want. If that's really what you think is best, then do it." She admitted, she wasn't omniscient she couldn't tell Skye definitively what the best answer was. She often acted like her empathy granted her much more insight than it did. "I can't tell you what's right, All I can really tell you is to be honest with yourself, and if you're struggling with that give me a kick and I'll do it for you." She replied with a soft smile that quickly turned into another blush when she got squeezed.
She did promise, didn't she? No way she was breaking her word to Skye. Odd though... Emily had never really thought about the giving their word or being honest thing before. The whole situation with her mum had made her extremely distrustful of people, and she figured that if her mother could lie about things, then Emily shouldn't be giving her word over things. But she wanted to keep her word to Skye. And it wasn't just that she liked being around the lovely girl, and it definitely wasn't just that she had feelings for Skye. It was something else. Skye made her want to keep her word, maybe prove that she wasn't just some toxic person that couldn't maintain a relationship even through some trouble... Wow. There was something to unpack there.
Emily's cheeks flushed in the most brightly they ever had, it was quite a fetching contrast on her pale skin. She looked straight up at the ceiling, away from Skye and counted to 10 in her head, internally struggling a little. "But some of them can be good. Or at least I don't dislike them." She muttered, kind of talking herself in circles for a second before taking in a deep breath, mentally slapping herself.
"Okay. F*** it. Honesty." She took one more quick breath and sat up a little, so Skye was still lying her head back gently against her and leaned down, so she was in Skye's face. Weirdly it was less scary to do it when she was in her face. "Skye, I have genuine feelings for you. I'm sorry if that complicates things for you, but I don't want to lie to you. I..." She smiled, still completely red. "You're the closest I've been to another human in literally years, and I don't think it's just a funny coincidence, I think it's because you're you." Okay. She said it. She froze. Weirdly... Emily's arms had stopped shaking, even though she was basically holding Skye and had just confessed something super awkward.

"Yeah, that makes sense. You mentioned your own crazy bitch relative." She snorted. "You don't seem too bad to me, cynical, but generally alright. It helps that you're a nerd, and you're pretty upfront about your intentions." Pot, kettle, black.
"That's exactly how I feel. That's part of why I'm not open with my power, people get all upset when they realise you get a glimpse into their shame." Shaking her head in annoyance she added. "What's worse is these are the people that have the F***** gall to even imply that anybody with a psychic power should walk around wearing some kind of identifier." She felt a little surge of anger at that particular memory. "Some people just seem to gather more dead brain cells than everyone else in the room, like a ******* idiot magnet." She seethed.
The sarcasm kind of brought her back to reality. Sarcasm she could deal with. She smiled a little to herself. "Same. If I bite your head off or call you a string of curse words, it's either in jest or affection." She replied with some snark.
"Oh really? my grandparents are practically sane compared to the witch of the west that is my mother." She chirped. She wasn't even super mad anymore, it was mostly just venom in her words, not rage.
Emily nodded gently before pressing the Y and blinking slowly as her perspective shifted and changed. She blinked slowly, what the hell? "Okay. This is..." She sort of got lost in thought.

When Emily finished speaking, and she felt Skye's reaction she leaned against the other girl as close as she could. This was the closest she'd been to somebody in years, period. Both physically and emotionally. She hadn't realised how much she'd missed it, Emily had just resented the pain that came from situations like this going wrong and had shut herself off from pretty much everybody. She was now slowly starting to come to the realisation that it might have been a mistake. She supposed for all the lecturing she gave to Skye, she probably had just as many if not many more issues herself. Go figure. She sighed gently, closing her eyes.
"If you're confused and you can't work it out on your own, you need closure. It's that easy." She explained softly. "And it might be negative, I hope it's not. But either way I'm here for you Skye." On reflection the alcohol had probably helped with some of her social hang ups in this situation. She definitely wasn't thinking about the fact her and Skye were touching much at all, and she'd also been pretty honest. Barriers were still up there, just not as impossibly high.
She blushed and fidgeted at the genuine heartfelt compliment. She was glad her eyes were closed, it made it easier to pretend it wasn't there. Comments like that really meant something coming from Skye. She ought to say something.
She opened her eyes and glanced down at the sweet pink haired woman with an unusually timid smile on her cheeks. "Maybe not all of them are good. But." She didn't finished the thought, she leaned her head out of site gently, hiding another blush from Skye and holding her close. Okay, so maybe she had romantic feelings for Skye.

Skye was such a silly person it was pretty funny. Emily pretty much had a perfect read on her emotions right now having been this close to her for this long, and if Skye hadn't driven her away yet even with her silent proclamation of romantic feelings not much was going to drive her away this point. Emily couldn't really put a finger on what would to be honest. If they'd actually kissed a few minutes ago when their faces were inches apart maybe she'd have shut down or freaked out...
She shook her head a little, trying to shake the hold those thoughts had on her brain loose. "Your emotions aren't just confusing to you I guess." she murmured. Normally it wouldn't have been audible, but er... She was kind of pressed up to Skye in a hug.
"Okay so people are complex, dumb idiot." she teased softly, squeezing her in affection. "I don't know her. But I do know you, more intimately than most people ever will." Oh wow. That wasn't supposed to come out like that. She quickly pressed on before Skye could bleach her room purple. "But it doesn't sound like you've actually worked out what really happened yet. You weren't convinced it was actually a breakup until just now, so maybe it sounds like you at the very least need some clarity or closure?" She ventured, leaning on her friend.
"And I'm saying that because you're clearly a massive dummy and can't work this out for yourself, but you're amazing, and anybody that you manage to actually push away isn't worth your time. I totally am, because I'm more awesome." The brit chirped.
Emily felt another little shudder when Skye leaned her head onto the shoulder, but it quickly settled. It was weird. She'd only worked out she had issues with touching people. Well, she'd only accepted it a few days ago but she felt strangely safe with Skye. Emily blushed at the wink. "Yes. You are. I've not worked out if I like all of them yet, but again, not going anywhere." She soothed reaching her arm around and gently leaning against Skye too for a minute.

"I do." She replied immediately, with sincerity. "And you know at this point that I understand downsides, and not having an off switch." Admittedly though, Emily hadn't suffered a headache since they'd been in her room, she'd been distracted. Go figure.
"I don't." She responded softly again when Skye exclaimed she wished she didn't feel things like she did. "I know it hurts. Trust me, I literally know." She paused before pressing on. "The fact that you feel things so deeply is part of what drew me to you in the first place, so if you didn't I'd probably not have a friend right now. I mean that literally, you're the first person I've connected to in god knows how long." She admitted a little sheepishly. "And yeah, it would probably be easier to deal with, but you wouldn't be so happy when you experience joy, I think. Everything balances out." She added with a smile.
Some of the tension had melted away now, and Emily smiled when the emotions shifted again, and basked a little in the brief pink glow this time. "I don't make anything easy, if you have not had the chance to work that out yet." She admitted with a soft smile.
Heh. Confusion. Fun. Nerves and tension rose again. "So even though your power might lead you to believe otherwise emotions are not clean cut and a one at a time thing, they are complex and nuanced." She explained with a little shrug that was not fully visible. "I'd also suggest... Again, from personal experience." God Skye was making her think about her drama with Kendra a little. Her voice had some shake to it. She was over that, right? She didn't think about Kendra anymore, and she was certainly not in love with her anymore.
"If you want my opinion, you wouldn't be in such profound agony over her if you didn't lover her." She ventured. Yuck. Feelings.
Emily leaned down next to Skye and took an inhalation before hugging the other girl again, probably pretty hard. That could happen when you were out of practice. And also maybe terrified of touching another human. "I'm not going anywhere, can't get rid of me that easily." She soothed warmly.
Quirking an eyebrow at Skye. "Oh? So maybe you're not totally adorable and defenceless then. I suppose you might have some fangs." She teased.

Emily did wonder a little how obvious it was that she was complete socially inept in Gemma's aura... She just could not get over how absolutely weird it felt. She was so used to having this ever present extra sense, and now it just wasn't around. There was something so jarring about the normal suddenly being the abnormal. How did she get buy when she was a teenager before her power manifested? With less headaches, probably.
She blushed and nodded a little. "Sometimes when I'm passionate about something I struggle to keep my mouth shut, I just can't stop it." She supposed that was another thing she could really learn from Gemma. "I made the comparison between forced disclosure of powers and certain other historical examples of such labelling, he was not impressed." She recalled the argument bitterly. Of course, that lecturer had gotten into a bit of hot water when she'd brought his views to the attention of his boss. Oops.
"As far as I'm concerned there is a difference between actively reading people's private thoughts, and not being able to not notice something. Like it's mostly like I have an extra sense, and I'm not going to apologise to some people or walk around with it spelled out on my forehead, even if some people think I should." She added a little more passionately than Gemma had probably heard her by this point. "Again though, disclosure is a different thing. And I respect that." She replied more softly.
Damn, Gemma had a way of actually making her contemplate things. She must've been really good at her job after all.
"No they are not." She admitted. She'd learned that lesson a long time ago. But they were definitely a useful thing to have. She supposed Gemma ought to have understood her point of view on power disclosure, being that she had a similar aura effect, even if she wasn't technically speaking a mutant. "I would certainly be willing to sit in. I just hope I don't make anybody uncomfortable." She totally lied, she meant she hoped she didn't embarrass herself in front of Gemma.

Emily blinked, a little cohesion coming back to her brain as Skye started replying. She listened intently and pouted underneath her arm, taking in what the other girl was saying. She supposed she could see why Skye's power frustrated herself, she could be sympathetic, obviously. Emily's power didn't cause those around her physical discomfort, just strife when they found out what it was doing.
"Yeah. I get that. I wish..." She blinked and sat up "Whoa." She was definitely drunk. She took a moment to steady herself against the desk, leaning against it, very close to Skye but not actually touching her. She let Skye finish and felt a little sad smile twist at her lips.
Skye clearly missed Mari in all kinds of ways. She really must have loved her. And the fact that she could recognise the two of them had broken up was healthy. It meant that if she really wanted her back, if she really should do that, it was a real possibility. Recognising the situation was very important.
She slowly stood up, wobbling a little as she did and reached a shaky hand out, planting it on Skye's shoulder. The little vibrations of her nervousness were probably evident. "So first" She cleared her throat and popped a can of coke taking a big sip before placing the hand back on the shoulder, slightly less shakily than before. "I actually kind of love your power. It's unique and expressive, and I'm sure that you have every reason to hate the negatives but.. Honestly, it's kind of beautiful. I wish I could affect the world around me in some way."
She smiled sadly again. "The reason I said that is because I wish I could help take away or take on some of your sadness because it sucks. I'm glad you're thinking more about things, and you're finding your own happiness and grounding it in yourself instead of others. That's good." Emily hoped not too much of it was getting grounded in her.
She gently ran a fingers through the flopped purple mohawk and smiled again. "Break ups are not the end of the world. Life goes on. As I'm sure you're now realising, and I know it sounds corny but I get where you are. Really I do when I-" She stammered a little. "When I went through that sh** I wallowed for a long time. I'd become so reliant on somebody else's emotions I didn't recognise my own very well, I still don't sometimes." She conceeded.
"And if you are broken up, and you love her as much as it feels like you do... You can try to do something about it. If that's what you want to do, I support you. If you need time to get your thoughts together before you speak to her, I'll help, or give you space if that's what you want. And if it doesn't work out... Well, it'll suck but it won't be the end of the world, you have friends hobbies and things that you want to do like your training with-" Something caught up in her brain.
"Wait did you say training with the X-men?" She had an amused edge to her voice. "That's a thing too." She said softly.

She smiled at Alice and shook her head in amusement. "Flirt all you like, just don't expect to get anywhere." See the aformentioned hating people, and also Emily only really got into people that she had a real emotional connection with and that had happened like twice, ever. She wasn't likely to let that happen again anytime remotely soon. It would just be too annoying.
"Guys and girls can be equally creepy." She admitted honestly. "It depends on the person, but I think testosterone has an impact on some of it." She thought honestly. "To be fair, my experience leads me to believe that women can be nastier. Though that's less of a problem when I can just out-bitch them." She added with a playful smirk.
Okay that comment made Emily blush. "Well yeah, I know but most people don't take well to me going all psyche on them. Or they think I'm analysing them or something crazy." she muttered. "Like studying Psyche just naturally means that I'm a psychoanalyst, which is both stupid and dumb at the same time."
"Depends on the compliment I suppose. I can usually sift through bull- pretty well with my power, if there is genuine meaning behind it I'll-" actually come to think of it she was worse with real compliments than she was with fake ones. "Actually I'd probably deflect it." She admitted sheepishly. "Oh, you had a crazy bitch too? Was it your mother also?" She ventured.
"Er. I know that my radius isn't that big." She admitted. It was a little smaller, thank god. If it was any bigger It'd be a real nightmare.
Emily totally didn't shiver a little when their hands touched. She did not have a problem with physical interaction, nope nope. Alice's hand was just cold. That's why she hadn't been crazy about touching it. Yeah. That made sense.
Then something weird happened. She blinked. "Er. Do I just?" She reached out with the intent of accepting it.

Emily caught what Skye said and winced. The emotions that she was experiencing caused her serious discomfort. why couldn't things just be simple? Everything had seemed so easy earlier today. Had she set a weird precedent when she'd invited Skye over to play games and hang out? She recalled Skye's excitement earlier that she'd questioned her on. Should she have picked up on it earlier and tried to detangle this web before everything got caught up? Did she catch it and just not want to?
Emily was actually covering her eyes with her arm drawn across her face, her purple locks spilling like a violently coloured cocktail across the floor behind her. Everything was starting to spin quite a lot now and not looking at the ceiling was nice. Her eyelids were being bathed in a vague purple and occasionally pink glow from Skye, which was nice. She liked both of those colours. She really thought orange and yellow suited her, but she didn't mind pink too much.
"Do you ever wish you could change thingsh about your power?" Emily asked, her voice a little less coherent than before. Maybe having multiple drinks in a short space of time without eating much during the day at all was a mistake. Oops.
"I do. All the time." she admitted, not really hearing Skye's words, her arm gently covering her vision. "Usually it's just why can't I have an off switch..." the words hung in the air for maybe 30 seconds while her impaired cognition caught up with her.
"sometimes.. I wish I could help other people with what they feel. Throw away the sadness, up the joy. an sometimes I wish I could control my own."

Even if Emily wasn't an empath she'd probably have worked out what was going on. Firstly there was Skye's irregular breathing, which was pretty obvious to her and seemed to be the most audible thing in the room even over the game audio. Second there was the pink light that was bathing the room. Pink was affection right? Of course it was... The funny thing was Sky seemed super nervous but her colour and predominant emotion were affection... Romantic affection.
What did that mean? Ugh, this whole day had been so confusing. Emily liked Skye sure, but romance was not something she was after, and Skye had made it pretty clear she wasn't either. Emily felt more than a little sick at the thought. She'd not really considered or felt serious romance since Kendra, everything else had been curiosity and testing.
Then Skye responded by describing her view of their relation-Friendship. Their friendship. And Emily felt her stomach doing another little flip. There was the purple again too. Emily suddenly realised how close she was and abruptly freaked the fuck out, falling backwards a little before ending up lying down on her back on the floor. This alcohol was probably contributing. This was fine. She could just lie here until morning and then wake up from this nightmare.
"Yeah. Healthy." She muttered in response from her place on the floor. Crap crap crap crap. What was she going to do?
"You are an idiot, I agree." She murmured without any conviction.

Okay. Okay okay okay. Okayyyy. Skye was definitely feeling some romance. That wasn't what Emily had intended. Right? No it definitely wasn't. Right...? The discomfort she felt in Skye rocked her like a slap. Emily suddenly felt very twisted and uncomfortable herself. Even if it was all unintentional Emily didn't want Skye to feel unhappy or uncomfortable, she sucked in a little through her teeth in reaction.
"All I want." She forced the words to come out of her mouth. Her brain would obey dammit! "Is for you to feel like yourself, and be happy. If the old you is the shape that it takes, so be it." She soothed honestly. Ugh, why did that feel so weird to say. Maybe it wasn't all she wanted? She didn't know what she wanted. She should really get back to dealing with how she dealt with Kendra and start repressing the crap out of things.
And then Skye spoke again. ****. "Hey, no. You're wrong about that." She shot back quickly. "Firstly, you don't need me at all. You're strong, determined and gorgeous. You're really good at video games, stylish and funny. You'd be fine on your own." Emily briefly thought about reaching over and wrapping her fingers around Skye's and then was immediately thankful that Skye wasn't a mind reader or an empath herself.
She forced herself to think platonically and still blushed because of the words that spilled out of her mouth at Skye. "Since meeting you I've done something I was terrified to do, actually several things. And I've made a second friend (I think), what possibly could make you think us hanging out hasn't been good for both of us." She leaned towards Skye, romantic tension off her mind entirely for a moment regardless of implications of body language.
"And none of this leaves this room. If you tell people I said any of this I deny it super hard, got it?" She replied with a grin, awfully close to Skye.

Skye had actually taken to the activity of helping Emily sort out her hair with a surprising amount of vigour. "Yup! I'm surprised she's taken to it so well, she can't dye her hair so I suppose she could just be living vicariously through my hair." She blurted out. She maybe shouldn't be explaining the details of friend's powers to other people but oh well, Skye hopefully shouldn't mind.
"Me too! It's nice to be appreciated. Especially when you're pretty unapologetic and flirtatious." She admitted. It was nice to have somebody pure in regards to actions vs intentions. "You only had one massive surge of embarrassment so far too, so you're doing much better than most lesbians I catch in the act of checking me out." She admitted. "Most dudes tend to just get upset with me for understanding that they're looking at my body."
Emily tended to have a weird opinion on males and females. It differed on age group, she found teenage boys more painful but adult women tended to get on her nerve a lot more. She wasn't really sure why, thought was confident it wasn't because of her power. Perhaps it was a complex around her mother being a total bitch.
"I have no idea what my metabolism is like, it's all over the place" She admitted. "Although I've heard that insomnia can have an impact on that, so perhaps it's largely psychosematic?" She ventured before actually blushing a little. "Sorry for nerding on you a little there."
"Also don't worry about your personality, it's really not that abrasive. I'm impressed you didn't bounce off of my prickles." she admitted, slightly impressed.
"It used to creep me out." she admitted, letting it hang for a little before adding. "But honestly, I think your personality... Well. More like your emotional style is kind of nice, so I'll take it as a compliment." She replied sincerely.
"How does that work, exactly?" She asked sheepishly. "You don't have to get my feedback do you? Because my power can be a little overwhelming, I basically had a migraine for a week when I manifested."
Emily eyed the hand and tried to hide her immediate spike in tension. She didn't really touch people much these days... Or at all really. She looked Alice in the eyes for maybe a few beats too long and studied her emotions before slowly, maybe noticeably shakily reaching forwards and grasping her hand.

Emily giggled when Skye tried to keep her face straight and failed absolutely. "You know you can try and keep a straight face with me all you like, but I know what's behind your smile~" Whoa. Okay, that came out far more flirtatious than intended. Hopefully Skye with her confused feelings wouldn't misinterpretation that.
"I will take credit for being a f*** awesome friend, and plying my weird friend with alcohol~" She teased back. "As long as you don't tell my boss." She looked up thoughtfully for a moment. "I wonder what she'd think of us hanging out... Actually, she'd probably be happy that I'm actually socialising more." She admitted with another giggle.
Damn, the alcohol was making it harder to hold off those nefarious giggles. Emily bit her lip to stop more escaping. Nope, now they just sounded like snorts. Maybe that was better.
They downed the boss as Skye asked the question Emily turned to her with a raised eyebrow. "What do you think I need you for?" The question had actually had innocent intent, truly.

"Sure you do." She smiled, teasing more. Skye really just made it much to easy to tease her for things. Emily was pretty sure even if she wasn't cheating with her power she'd manage to turn the other girl beet red given enough time. That was an amusing thought. Skye had a pretty cute blush. It was also amusing to see her her change into that particular shade.
"I wouldn't go that far. Maybe not perfect." She chimed, smirking more. "Adequate scapegoat maybe~" She teased more, laughing a little at the next response. "Sure you can~" The sure was drawn out by a few more syllables. "Though I am sure you can get into trouble without me just fine, you're definitely the trouble maker of us." She said, ironically while reaching for the alcohol and pouring herself another drink.
Was that...? Emily began to wonder a little about all the embarrassment that radiated from Skye when they'd been hanging out. She'd definitely felt affection from the other girl. But it was hard to differentiate affection from romantic intentions. She was definitely blushing though.
If that was the case how did Emily feel about that? She hoped Skye wouldn't get too awkward with them hanging out, she was really enjoying a friend and hoped if her friend was developing pesky feelings they wouldn't be a problem.
Keep things super platonic. "Well I'm probably up before you anyway. I'm awake a good 20 hours a day anyway." Maybe that was why she was so prickly.? Probably.
