The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Individual
Character's full name:Emily Lucy Graves
Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Em
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Date of Birth: (16/04/1998)
Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: Reading, United Kingdom
Nationality: British
Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: English-Germanic.
Appearance
Hair color and style: Brunette, just down past shoulder length, curly or straight depending on the flavour of the month.
Skin Tone: Fairly pale.
Eye Color: Hazel
Height: 5’5”
Build: Slim
Visible mutation: None.
Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings:None.
Other features: None.
Everyday clothing style:Emily’s everyday clothing style can be described (in part by her mother) as boyish. She wears a lot of band shirts, torn jeans, and other casual clothes. A lot of blacks and blues. She does actually on occasion, wear more traditional or elegant dresses, but she’s very quiet about this and wouldn’t be seen wearing this stuff normally around her usual circles. (She also has a thing for corsets that she keeps on the down low)
Uniform: None.
Sleepwear: Em tends to wear fairly plain Pyjamas, she wouldn’t be caught dead in anything as risque as Lingerie, she’d instead opt for regular pants and T-shirts in bed, and fluffy slippers.
Miscellaneous clothing: A fairly dark purple leather bracelet she basically never takes off.
Character
Personality: Emily has been described in both clothing and personality by her own mother as particularly ‘boyish’. There are a number of reasons for this. She has a tendency to display a large amount of sass to anybody who appears to be in authority, it could almost be said that she has a complex.
She’s very teasing and aggressive in her interactions with her friends, not in a necessarily unpleasant way. But as she puts it, if she can be openly toxic with a friend and call them several colourful curse words without them ‘buggering off’ then they know that she likes them a whole lot.
She can also come off as a bit snappy if she’s on very little sleep or in any kind of discomfort. While she does have a reasonably high tolerance for pain, she does have a tendency to lash out at those around her. Compounded by the fact that she doesn’t do apologies very often in any case.
Emily could be argued to having a somewhat mischievous streak. She takes pleasure in pranks, even if she’s often too lazy to set them up herself. Over the years she’s also gotten pretty good at pretending that she’s not too involved in any trouble that goes on, avoiding detentions and such by simply lying through her teeth. Also she can be petty if it comes to somebody that has annoyed her, although doesn’t hold onto grudges for too long.
Hobbies/ Interests: She loves getting involved in sports. English football, hockey, tennis and pretty much anything that isn’t netball (much to her own mother’s dismay.) As well as this, she loves to video game. She isn’t particularly good at them, but then again that doesn’t really matter. She still has fun with these hobbies, and has a frankly massive competitive spirit.
Job or part time job and description: Nothing currently.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: She’s actually fairly scared of meta bots and anti-mutant groups, even though she knows she’s not an obvious mutant, she also doesn’t really know how to defend herself. She tends to keep this to herself and hides her fear through a visage of snide remarks to anybody that asks about it.
Special talents: She is a fairly talented musician, having learned how to play the Guitar and the Bass and having an excellent singing voice (Self-taught mostly)
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral-Chaotic good. Emily isn’t what you would call a bad person, not in any real sense of the word. She wouldn’t ever think of causing any serious bodily or mental harm to another person and she would likely give to charities that she deemed as being good causes if given the opportunity.
However, this does not mean she’s a goody two-shoes by any stretch of the imagination either, the brunette is the type of person to not care about people committing online piracy for things such as music, or for committing smoking or underage drinking. Even if she likely wouldn’t partake in these things herself. She’s also not likely to report somebody breaking the law in a way that only effects people she perceives as being corrupt or immoral.
Mutations
Mutation description: Empathy
Emily has the ability to sense the emotions of those around her, mostly on a surface level at all times. Her ability is always active, she can’t turn it off, even while she sleeps. She feels the emotions of others as a kind of, extra sense; they are always moving around her, coming from the direction of the person giving off said emotion. Like a radar. Most of the time she is only able to sense surface emotions, she can only sense underlying ones if she is able to focus on an individual person, and this can be interfered with by others around her.
It’s also worth noting that although emotions typically don’t effect Emily’s own feelings, as with many situations, if she is surrounded by a dominant emotion, like being in a room full of people who are terrified, this will reflect in her own feelings potently.
It is worth noting that Emily’s overall control and ability to focus on specific emotions is very limited right now, she needs a great deal of practice.
Strengths:
-She is able to tell when other people are approaching, even if she can’t see or hear them immediately.
-She is likely a better judge of character than most people.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
-Emily’s power is only active within 50 foot (Roughly 15 meters) radius around herself
-The further away a person is, the harder it is for Emily to pinpoint a specific emotion.
-Emily can only feel the emotions of humans and mutants, animals or mutants in an animal form do not convey any to her.
-Emily cannot effect the emotions of others, only sense them.
-The constant, unending nature of this power leads to fairly constant headaches and minor insomnia.
- If Emily tries to shut out or focus on specific people’s emotions for too long, she gets fairly severe headaches, and if persistent she gets bad nose bleeds and light headedness.
-The closer a person is to Emily, the more potent they will feel to her.
-Emily is obviously more easily distracted than most people, due to the extra sense.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Emily is a fairly regular 17 year old girl, she’s fairly slim, though not entirely without physical fitness due to casual interest in some sports, she’s of average speed and strength of a girl her age, and slightly below average in terms of reaction time due to her mutation distracting her.
Fighting Style: Emily has no formal training. She fights like any untrained teenager would, dirty.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: She doesn’t really fight, but if she has to she’s not afraid to go for the eyes, male weak spots and other such ‘dirty’ tactics. However as she has no formal training anybody stronger, faster than her or with any level of formal training would easily best her if it came to a fight.
History Of Your Character
Emily Lucy Graves was born to a couple who were both relatively high in the UK’s business industry, her mother was a marketing director for a female beauty product company. Her father on the other hand, had a fairly high management position in a corporation that dealt with the computing systems used In a variety of office environments, and product designs. The two of them had a passionate romantic fling, but only stayed together due to Emily’s pregnancy.
A few years into the little brunette’s life, her parents realised just how incompatible they were…. Partially due to Emily’s mother cheating on her father on several, extended occasions. Emily was in primary school when this happened, and up until this point she’d had a fairly standard childhood for a girl raised in her area of the UK. Her mother stayed in Reading, with her daughter. Emily’s father moved a couple of towns over, so she could still see him on weekends.
The girl quickly grew into a feisty child, she got into fights and arguments with her mother particularly often, undermining her mother’s authority with comments on her faithfulness to her dad. Her father wasn’t particularly happy that Emily’s relationship with her mother was strained, however he doted on her. The two of them grew particularly close, he didn’t mind if she wanted to dress in more ‘boyish’ clothes as her mother dubbed them. He didn’t mind if she’d rather stay up with him playing video games, than go to dancing classes. He wanted her to be herself, individual.
Sadly for the girl, around the time she was 10 her father moved to the US on business, coming back a few months out of the year to see his daughter. This left her in an unhappy place with her mother.
As Emily went into secondary school, and started her transition into a teenager, she got into more and more fights with her mother, rebelling wherever she could. It was around this time when she was 12 that her mother’s company got into a big scandal with animal testing and morally dubious practices. They got into another argument about this, but her Mother denied knowing about the illegal activities.
This led to some threats, and activists lurking outside of their home and Emily’s school. Emily’s mother decided to give over custody of her daughter to the girl’s father, and let her go live and school with him, to avoid all of the drama and hardship. The girl, though glad to have the prospect of seeing her father more, had grown accustomed to living with her mother, and as much as they argued actually very much loved her.
This caused a great deal of stress, moving to another country, and then the process of moving into an American school. She was teased a great deal during this transition, but of course instead of talking about it with her father, or a councillor she bottled up any anxiety she felt and carried on with just retorting and being her usual sarcastic self.
Eventually the stress combined with her entering puberty triggered her power activating quite suddenly during a day at school. At first it was just individual emotions, but over the next week it grew until it was everybody within the room she was in. She thought she was going crazy. Emily ended up in hospital for a few days, where it was confirmed that she was indeed, a mutant. At first she thought it was cool, before it quickly turned into disdain for her nature, she got consistent headaches and had trouble sleeping. Her father moved them out of the city for a time, living on the outskirts so there were less emotions for her to deal with.
She remained going to school for a while, trying to keep her mutation quiet, not wanting any of her classmates to know. She became a little more bitter and angry for a time as a teenager, her father and mother did their best to help her and deal with her mood swings, but it was hard for all of them.
A few years down the line, and while she was 16, a month or so before her 17th Birthday, it was becoming too much for her to handle. She had a hard time ignoring emotions, and she became more and more stressed as she felt like she was going to fail exams. A councilor at the school recommended that if the power was the problem, as they weren’t equipped to handle it, she should transfer to boarding school in New York, well equipped to help and deal with mutants struggling.
Emily’s father at first wasn’t very happy about the prospect of sending his daughter over to a boarding school filled with strangers, but she managed to convince him as she wanted help to deal with her power. Her parents eventually agreed, with the condition that she visit every couple of months. And as a result, she has been living at the mansion in New York since March. Though, she has yet to improve her control very much.
Roleplay
Where did you learn about this site?: I believe I was referred by Shin, a looooong time ago.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Serena Anne Rivers, and Cassandra Rayne (Retiring)
Sample RP:
“Em! Have you finished packing yet?” Her mother’s voice carried up the stair case. She sounded stern, but Emily knew her mother wasn’t too happy about sending her away. Emily wasn’t too happy about it either if she was being honest with herself. She found herself sitting on the edge of the bed, not actually packing, just letting her mind wander to what it would be like having such a big change of scenery, making new friends.
Her mother’s voice carried the question again, louder this time. She blinked and growled. “No mother, I have not!” She slammed her door shut in exasperation and carried on packing up her clothes. Her mother had gone and bought her a whole new bunch of dresses, skirts and bows and such. She really didn’t like them, but she’d probably take them anyway just to appease her bear of a parent. They could just sit in the corner of her new bedroom or something.
She heard her mother’s voice again and felt a flash of anger, she moved over to her laptop and speakers, turned on some metal and turned it up so she couldn’t hear her mother’s voice calling out to her. Turned around and angrily screwed up some of her clothing into a ball, chucking it carelessly into the open suitcase on her bed sheets.
The more she thought about the whole thing, the more it wound her up. Her mother spent all this time pretending to care a lot about Emily and her problems, and then as soon as things started to get hard she sent her away. She slumped down in front of the bed and put her head in her hands. Why did she even care this much? She was going to be with her dad soon, he was so much cooler than her mum was.
She took a few shaky breaths, not realising that she was in that spot for about 15 minutes until her mum turned off the speakers behind her and gently sat down next to her, putting an unusually gentle hand on her shoulder. “Come on Emily, let’s get something to eat. I’ll help you finish later.” The girl rubbed her eyes, nodded and stood to follow her mother out.
Character's full name: Malcom Graves Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Mal Gender: Male Age:25 Date of Birth: (04/14/1992) Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin:Reading, United Kingdom Nationality:British Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage:Caucasian
Appearance
Hair color and style:Brunette, relatively short, without too much work put into it. Skin Tone: Slightly more tanned than Emily Eye Color: Hazel Height: 5’11” Build: Athletic Visible mutation: Nada. Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: Nope. Other features: None.
Everyday clothing style: Malcom wears mostly plain shirts, whites and blues with various types of jeans or chinos. Sleepwear: Usually just boxers or shorts. Miscellaneous clothing: A purple leather wristband that’s always on unless he’s at work.
Character
Personality: Compared to his female counterpart, Mal is quite an outgoing and friendly person to almost everyone he meets, he’s known around his friend groups and workplace as a bit of a joker, only in the light hearted sense. This is mostly a mask though, it’s what Mal is like most of the time to most new people that meet or encounter him.
Under the surface there is also a much more serious, morally driven individual, who is careful in considering his actions before he takes them, using his power to his advantage In such situations and when dealing with the people that he is treating. Hobbies/ Interests: He used to love attending open mic nights and showing off his voice, but lately he hasn't had too much time to be able to do this, due to the requirements of his work schedule. Other than that he keeps up to date with psychological and biological developments that have a large impact on the fields. Job or part time job and description: Malcom is a full time Doctor, entailing surgery as well as various degrees of consultation depending on what is required for patients, and as such has an extremely busy working schedule with long hours. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Malcom is relatively easy going. As with most practicing doctors and surgeons, he’s afraid of messing up and causing patients to pay the cost for his screw ups. On top of that he’s pretty terrified of damaging himself badly or losing his ability to practice from age. Special talents: Mal is an excellent singer, having a wide vocal range and a lot of passion.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Plain and simple, Malcom is a very moral soul, he went into practice because he could feel the negative emotions and sorrows of those around him, and decided that he wanted to do something to make a real difference to people’s lives. On top of that, he’s obviously taken the hipiocratic oath and strives to use his knowledge to help people, never doing harm.
Mutations
Mutation description: Exactly the same, but he has had longer to practice with it, so he’s better with managing the headaches and emotions that come with it. Strengths: Weaknesses and Limitations: Same.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Malcom is in good physical condition. He works out in his periods of time off, and he has very good reflexes and a good amount of precision with steady hands. Fighting Style: Malcom has no formal fighting style or training, but as he is well versed in human biology he knows where to hit people to make it hurt, and a fair amount of upper body strength behind it. Fighting Style Pros/Cons:Obviously he has no formal training so anybody who knows what they are doing would easily mop the floor with him. In his own words, He’s a doctor not a fighter.
History Of Your Character Malcom was born to a couple who were both relatively high in the UK’s business industry, his mother was a marketing director for a female beauty product company. His father on the other hand, had a fairly high management position in a corporation that dealt with the computing systems used In a variety of office environments, and product designs. The two of them had a passionate romantic fling, but only stayed together due to Malcom’s pregnancy.
A few years into the child’s life, his parents realised just how incompatible they were…. Partially due to Mal’s mother cheating on her father on several, extended occasions. Mal was in primary school when this happened, and up until this point he’d had a fairly standard childhood for a boy raised in that area of the UK. His mother stayed in Reading, with her Son. Mal’s father moved a couple of towns over, so he could still see him on weekends.
As Male he naturally had a lot more freedom and space to express himself, compared to his MRO counterpart. His relationship with his dad was a lot more easy going and with a lot less outwards affection, his Father ended up taking his business to greater heights and ended up working with and having contracts with a number of prominent senators, and becoming a figure in the public eye in the States.
Most of his childhood and early teenage years were spent as a happy free spirited joker, pulling pranks on friends and parents with mostly light hearted intents. His visits with his dad, though a lot more sparse than he would have liked, were some of the most happy moments of these years. Eventually his mother’s company was accused of certain illegal business and animal rights’s practices, which lead to a bunch of death threats and activists lurking, one of which jumped the two of them and threatened them up close.
The stress of these events triggered an early activation of Malcom’s empathy at the age of 12. He remained with his mother for another 2 years before she decided that he should move over to spend more time with his dad, as it was also the lurking issues and stigma against her and her company that caused her to come to this decision. He came to terms with it, and remained on excellent terms with his mother even after the move, as when he questioned his mother about the knowledge of the illegal activities, she told him the truth in that she did not.
Malcom received private schooling in the states in his Dad’s area, struggling slowly but over time getting the hang of his power, and not letting it overwhelm him. Most of the students around him came from affluent parents, and ended up going for fields such as business and politics, trying to make large sums of money and gain influence like their parentage, on the whole anyway.
Malcom himself though, ended up being driven more towards helping people, especially after his power manifested and he could sense the ire in those around him. He worked diligently towards becoming a Doctor to help people, and has recently completed his residency and frequently finds himself offering his expertise to the the X-men, who happen to work out of his the vicinity in which he conducts his work.
