The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The last couple of lectures had been... Interesting. Emily hadn't quite expected as many people as she did to pay attention to her. It wasn't like she'd covered her body in tattoos, or drastically changed her clothing style, or started grabbing for the lecturer's attention all the time or anything. She'd noticed before when something had changed about somebody in the class and people had started paying attention to it.
But really, she'd only dyed her hair purple. What was so shocking about all of it? The people in her immediate vicinity kept glancing over at her all day. Was she not entitled to a very minor style change? Whatever.
Dressed in her usual type of aesthetic of ripped skinny jeans, worn looking boots and an avenged seven-fold shirt, with an open black zip up hoodie and leather jacket, she surprisingly wasn't out of place near the campus with the other students. She leaned against the backside of a bus shelter and was pretty happy with the relatively mild temperature today. It'd been so freezing cold recently that a day where she only couldn't feel her fingers and toes was a hell of a lot better than her entire body.
Skye had been the one to dye her hair of course, their meeting had sort of prompted the whole thing. And she was aware of the semi-makeover Skye had planned, and vaguely what those plans were from conversations the two of them had on the topic. But she'd not actually seen it yet.
Emily pulled out her phone to check if her new friend had sent any messages to say she was running late, or if she was more or less on time. It had made sense to meet on a friday afternoon at the edge of campus, it'd be easy to get into the city and do something fun. At least, she hoped it was fun and didn't just result in another migraine. Emily let out an exaggerated huff into the air just to see her breath in the air, doing her best toignore the dozens of people walking past her in various states of exhaustion, irritation or other unpleasant emotions waiting a little impatiently.

Skye was used to turning heads, what with her power being what it was, but after her little makeover, she was definitely getting stares. Only, now people were looking more at her head than at her glowing hands. She'd gotten a little length taken off so it would lay on her head better, but a few days ago, Skye had gotten her hair chopped off, except for a mohawk running down the center, which usually lay down across the left side of her head. As it stood, about an inch or two of orange hair peeked out from under a bright purple beanie, and orange light radiated dimly out of the pockets of her black leather jacket. Black leggings peeked out of a few holes in some faded blue jeans, and this was all topped off with a pair of black high tops.
Personally, she liked her new look; Emily had helped her pick out some of the clothes, and Skye in return dyed the other woman's hair purple. It was a nice shade of purple, too, not a far cry from the purple that sometimes adorned the top of Skye's head. Looking at the clock, she realized she was pretty well on time; the mutant didn't too much like being late. Looking through the crowd of people as they passed, it wasn't hard to spot the bright purple beacon she'd created. She wondered if she'd be that easy to find if her hands didn't glow. Probably.
Silently, Skye strolled up beside Emily as the other woman had let out of huff of visible breath. "Did I keep you waiting long?" she said teasingly, giving her a playful nudge.

Emotions were a pretty complicated thing. Most people weren't a single emotion at a given time, they were a complex swirl of feelings with some just being more pronounced than the others they were feeling. As a result Emily had found she developed a habit to identify some people by how the felt to her. It was a little like learning to recognise the sound of somebodies footsteps, or their scent or whatever, it wasn't so much a super power as a habit she'd developed.
She smiled as a result, still looking at her phone when the bundle of bright colours and intense emotions that was Skye appeared in her radius, nudging her just after she observed her own breath. Emily rocked on her feet a little at the nudge. She was definitely on the lighter side of things, even if it was just a playful little shove.
"Skye I've been here for hours." She deadpanned in the other girl's face for a few moments before her lips broke into a soft smirk. "Oh my god, if I could read people's thoughts I'm sure I'd be picking up on more than a few 'edgy lesbian' comments. I'm glad it's just emotions sometimes." She snorted and supplied quietly.
Emily wasn't the kind of girl to ask people how they were, or immediately start a conversation with catching up. Not only was that totally cliche and boring. And she was so obviously a rebel. But also it seemed like a moot point when she could work a lot of that out for herself. She edged a little closer to Skye and let herself just concentrate on the other girl, trying to ignore what she was getting off of the rest of the passers by. It helped, a little.
Skye's eyes widened, as the bits of hair and light turned green. "What? But you said we'd meet here at--" Then she spotted the smirk, and the colors went back to orange, this time she was feeling quite amused. "Har har .Thanks for that heart attack," she teased, giving a fake scowl and sticking out her tongue.
This time, it was Skye's turn to snort. "I'm pretty sure I gave off the 'edgy lesbian' vibe before the makeover," she commented with a shrug. "Let people think what they want, most of 'em are probably just mad," she said with a wink. "Though I gotta say..." Skye gave Emily a bright smile. "I did a damn good job dying your hair." Since she met Emily in the mansion common room that night, Skye'd found herself loosening up again; falling back into the bubbly, playful person she had been. Sure, she still had moments of being down, but now it wasn't an all the time thing.
"So what do we have planned? I vaguely remember the idea of Karaoke later, but I've got plenty of time to hang out and nowhere to be," she said with a shrug. It'd been a long time since she'd actually hung out, and it showed on her face, coupled with the orange that transitioned into a bright yellow glow.

Emily burst into internal cackles when Skye reacted with the nervousness and embarrassment, she was going to be so easy to mess with. "You're so easy!" She chuckled. "It's going to be so much fun messing with you, Skye~" Emily was unusually upbeat around Skye, something about her personality just brought out the amused and energetic parts of her personality. It was sort of funny, she'd met Skye brooding in a room that she was intending to brood in, and the two of them had kind of uplifted one another.
"I don't know about that, definitely the scene girl vibe though." She teased. "Mind you, you'd be surprised how many college students see two girls dressed" She wondered how her family would react to the makeover. Her dad would probably disapprove mildly but accept that it was ultimately her decision, and let her get away with it as long as she was happy. Her mother... Emily shuddered at the thought.
Emily felt the warmth and confidence coming off of Skye as she commented on the dye job and actually felt herself blush a little. It was a nice feeling though, seeing Skye feel confident or happy about something she'd done.
Clearing her throat and quickly moving on from the little flash of nerves Emily shrugged. "Honestly I thought we could wander about and find something. I'm relatively relaxed today so we could probably get away with just about anything." She'd probably have a headache by the end of the night but whatever, she could deal with it.

"You're an ass," she teased lightly, topping it off with a smile and a wink to ensure that no harm was done. Skye had to admit, Emily got her pretty good on that one. "As long as you're aware that gives me right to pick right back~" she replied brightly. Skye also picked up on how bright and perky they were around one another, and was just as amused that they were both being broody when they met. Sometimes you just needed that right person to pick you up, even if you had no idea who they were at the time.
"I mean...they'd be partially right. I can be a little edgy," she said with a smirk. Skye wondered what her dad or uncle would think of her new makeover, and then her mind wandered to what...someone else...would have thought, but she shook that thought quickly from her mind. No need to be down today. Besides, Mari was probably not even thinking about her, so why should she waste her time?
"Wandering actually sounds like a good idea. Maybe hit the mall, see what we can find, followed by a bite to eat," she suggested brightly, that yellow glow never once fading. Skye always liked cruising the mall, though it usually ended with her leaving with heavy bags and a lighter wallet...
"This is the only new outfit I bought, and I haven't been on an actual shopping trip in ages..." It'd been ages since she'd done a lot of stuff, but it seemed as though Skye's mood had completely turned around since that night in the mansion.

"I know." She agreed happily. She nudged the other girl with her shoulder playfully and tugged her arm to get them moving in the direction of some shopping districts. And burst into another laugh. "Hah. Goodluck. I could read you like an open book even if you didn't advertise it." Emily was having to make a conscious effort to curb a few of the smiles that were threatening to tug at her lips.
"Pffft. Have you seen what I wear? I could only give off more edge if I started wearing eye shadow." For someone that claimed to put so little stock in other's appearances Emily actually put a lot of care into what she wore and did to herself. And it wasn't like she was trying to stay up to date on fashion, or even that she was trying to appeal to a crowd, she just had a look she liked, and it was now slightly more purple than before.
It was a good thing her hair was naturally dark and her complexion was sort of pale, she had to keep her style. "Yes it does. I've not actually eaten all day, so that might be a good idea." When was the last time she ate? Oops.
She chuckled. "I guess I could do with a new choker or something, or I can just help you find some stuff." She rolled her eyes. "Although I'm not really into fashion, I've gotta warn you. More of a personality person than a looks person."

Skye normally didn't nudge or playfully make contact like she and Emily were now, but....she had to admit she kind of liked this. It was different. Fun. Showed a trust she didn't normally just hand out. "Well, yeah. Just because there's no way I can win, that doesn't mean I'm not gonna try," she quipped; Skye really was stubborn like that.
"True. I'm liking looking beyond the low cut tops and hoodies, personally. Still not messing with makeup; it's not really...me. Though I never thought about a choker. That could be something to look into...and trust me, hun, I may not normally look fashionable, but I know my way around a clothing store." She gave a wink as they walked toward the shopping district.
After a few moments something else Emily said clicked and Skye very nearly stopped in her tracks. "Whoa. You haven't eaten all day? Maybe we should do that first, then..." she gave a concerned look, her hair turning pink.

She smirked even wider at the admission. And the fact that Skye was comfortable. "And just to re-iterate, there is no way you can win." she replied confidently. Feeling a little reflection, and then comfort at being around Emily the Brit felt a warm feeling spreading through her, it was nice to feel trusted, or for people others to feel safe around you.
She snorted at that comment. "So you what you're telling me is that you have absolutely no fashion sense, and buy a ton of clothes to compensate?" She winked, but then added. "I actually kind of really like chokers." It was one of those things. She just thought they were cool. There was one other item of clothing she really liked, but there was no way she was admitting that out-loud to anyone. Ever.
Emily felt a tinge of embarrassment. "It's fine, really. It's just because I was really busy and didn't have time." She lied. It was actually because the cafe and cafeteria were both super mega full of agitated people and she didn't want to give herself a headache. And she left without breakfast because she was running late, from oversleeping. Oops.
"I appreciate the concern though. It's nice to have a real friend." She added without thinking.
.....
"Ok, Wow. That totally wasn't meant to sound anywhere near as sad as it did what I meant was-" She frowned. "I-" Emily was floundering. Awkward.

"Doesn't mean I'm not gonna fight the entire way," Skye quipped back, then she gave a feigned gasp. "I do so have a fashion sense!" she said with a fake frown before adding a murmured "It just may or may not need glasses, is all..." Shrugging lightly, she gave her friend another smile. "Besides, between the two of us we're liable to pick out a few pretty things, right? Thinking on it, a choker might work for me. I think. We'll have to see and if they look horrid on me, you can have them. Deal?"
"I feel the same way. I was all alone and literally blue when you found my mopey ass, remember?" she teased. "So for now, we gotta look out for each other because nobody else will," she said, putting a gentle hand on Emily's shoulder, very briefly as her hair turned red-orange, a color she'd only recently discovered.
"Anyway, what you meant was, we're going to eat," she said a little more firmly. Almost motherly, even. "So where are we heading? Or would you rather just find some peaceful hole in the wall kind of place? Either way, you're getting food if I have to go in and bring it out to you." Her voice was stern, but her face was soft, flickering back to that concerned, caring, pink.

Emily felt very relaxed and warm and fuzzy and excited at the same time. It was weird... She really wasn't used to intense emotions that came from herself more than others, usually when something took over like that it was because she was in a crowd feeling that vibe, or someone like Skye who was super intense and effects her more than others. Not because she really really liked somebody. She definitely wasn't going to word it like that out loud. She'd just embarrassed herself more than enough for today thank you.
"Yeah you were, it was really painful, and now you're all cute and bright. It's even cuter when you get all embarrassed." She teased, trying to recover quickly from that little funk, glad that the other girl didn't make a big deal out of it. Well, she did, but the sweet understanding kind of big deal out of it.
"Okay okay." She feigned a sigh. "If you're not going to shut up about it, I suppose we can go and find some food." Somebody was looking at them, she started dragging the other girl along a little further away. "Come on, if people see me being all emotional around here it's going to hurt my reputation as a feared crazy *****".

"It's even cuter when you're all embarrassed."
Skye felt her face grow hot as her hair and lights turned purple with the aforementioned embarrassment. Okay, so she knew she was cute but it was different when someone else said it. Especially since it'd been awhile since she'd heard a compliment like that. But she recovered quickly, the hair reverting to its happy orange, but the pink staying firmly planted on her cheeks.
"Hey, if you pass out from hunger or exhaustion today I'm not carrying your ass, that's all~" she teased as she let herself be dragged.
"Yeah, wouldn't want the world to know you're just a softie," she teased quietly, a coy smirk on her lips. She kept pace so she was walking alongside Emily now, still hand in hand but that didn't seem to bother Skye in the slightest. Or maybe she just didn't notice. Besides, this was fun already, and the day had barely begun.
"There's a good pizza place right around the corner. The Missing Link isn't far either; it's more of a sports bar type place, but I used to work there. It's not too bad," she said, offering up a couple of suggestions.

Emily felt a little internal flail "I even love the colour! We match!" She'd been smiling so much recently, had to keep suppressing and hiding them. It was exhausting, how did people do this all day with their faces? "You'd carry me." She snorted. "Well, you'd try. You don't look like a body builder." She admitted. She actually didn't know how physical the other girl was, Emily really didn't pay too much attention to those factors of people around her. Actually she was probably a little too lax sometimes when it came to noticing those things.
"We definitely wouldn't want that." She said as firmly as she could. People might start thinking she was approachable. Ew.
"I hear 'good pizza' from just about every American I meet that lives around here. And best pizza, and something something pizza. You people are obsessed!" She mini ranted. Emily actually really liked Pizza, it was something really easy to do when you were moving, and it didn't taste bad if it cooled down a little or was just cold because she'd gotten side tracked doing something else.

"Yeah," she replied with a small giggle. "Two purple peas in a ****ed up pod," Skye added with a laugh. "Okay, maybe I'd at least try," she admitted, feigning defeat. Maybe she could have actually carried the other woman if she hadn't shirked her training when Mari broke up with her. But as it stood, she wasn't carrying anyone. "At best I'd either have to drag you or steal some kid's skateboard....but I would get you to safety. I'm just a sweetheart," she said, giving a small, one-shouldered shrug.
"I mean, I'm not going to take you somewhere that the pizza sucks," she quipped. "I mean I'd like to keep my privileges of going out on the town with you. 'Oh, don't go with Skye, she takes you to sucky food joints.'" A small snort escaped her, and she blushed a little more lightly.
"I did bring up the other place, too. Their pizza blows, but their burgers are good and their chicken wings are to die for. If you don't mind the waitresses in ugly-ass crop tops and short shorts," she said with a nervous chuckle. "Actually I don't think I ever threw all of my old uniforms away..." Skye mused thoughtfully. "Remind me to check, and if I didn't, wanna have a bonfire?" she joked, giving Emily another wink. She'd been doing that a lot lately, for some reason.

Giggles were good. When other did it at least. Emily really didn't think giggles suited her at least, but it was a nice sound to hear coming from Skye, especially given her previous status. "Mind you, I'm not very heavy." She admitted. Emily was pretty scrawny all things considered, she wasn't really the type to work out. She did like taking walks, but not actually exercise. Walking was peaceful, or it could be rather.
She smiled softly. "You'd better not be." She burst into laughter at the follow up. "Seems like something you'd do. You're a bit of a crazy person. Adorable, but completely insane." She thought it was a particularly amusing thing. Who was Emily going to complain about Skye to in theory anyway? Gemma? She suddenly felt a little light go off in the back of her mind. What would her boss think of her dyeing her hair and hanging out with the walking colour index?
Pfft. "You might have hated wearing them, but I bet you didn't hate others wearing them." She teased. She wasn't sure actually, where Skye's preferences lay, but it might make her blush and go purple again so she was mostly fishing to mess with her new friend.
"Bonfires are fun. Roast some marshmellows, get absolutely plastered." Maybe she shouldn't be encouraging other underages. Oops.
