The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The mountain man had just called her pretty. Had Astrid heard that right? Pretty was a word reserved for blonde people and park princesses, not for pale mutant girls with wings. Back in France, most of the other kids used words like inbred, or freak, but never pretty. It was probably the eyes that threw most people off.
Maybe America wasn't that bad after all.
It wasn't as if Astrid liked the mountain man or anything, or even that she had any intention of letting him know what she thought of his compliment, but it was nice to be noticed. She puffed out her chest just a bit more in pride, forgetting what implications that might have.
As her eyes travelled up to the mountain man, she realized that he was now staring again. Only this time, it was less at her face.
Astrid mouth turned downwards into a grimace as she looked at the man. Yuck. Didn't he realize she was only fourteen? As much as she tried to deny it on a regular basis, she couldn't pass for much older. Definitely not anything over eighteen, for that matter.
Or maybe that was just part of the allure. Yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck.
>>"Hey, Val. That offer from earlier. You want help hurt him? I'll help."
"Yes," Astrid smiled, her eyes fixed on the mountain man as she cracked her knuckles and changed her wings to crystal form. Two free drinks, a compliment, and getting to beat up a creep. No, America definitely wasn't all that bad.
A row of crystals were sent flying forward. She wasn't at the best angle for sure, but they were probably one of her only moves. One crystal merely grazed the man's leg, while the buried itself into his calf.
Yet another embedded itself into the man with the glasses' foot. The rest were scattered all over the bar, some in the fixtures, some having hit the customers.

((OOC: This has been an Austin-approved order change.))
>>"You don't know where we're going or why. Why would you want to come?"
Astrid pursed her lips in a scowl. Why did she want to go with them? Boredom was one answer, but in reality, she could be walking straight into a trap. A trap with a wolf-like face and full of stupid teenage boys. All in all, she couldn't really come up with an answer better than 'because I want to'.
While her brain scrambled for a good response, Astrid tried her best to continue looking as menacing as possible. There really was no good way to come out of this except to continue along down the path she had chosen. After all, she couldn't just go around saying that she actually changed her mind and now didn't want to come after making such a scene. That would be childish and, well, as the Yanks say, lame.
"Why you want to know?" Astrid countered in her most I'm-too-good-for-you voice. That sounded good. It sounded... Snarky. If she could have patted herself on the back without it looking strange, she would have.
In order to shift the focus off of herself, she then turned to the first boy, "why you going?" Astrid asked, even adding in a sassy head bob for good measure.

Without even lifting a finger, Astrid had somehow ended up with two free drinks. She hadn't even needed to hurt anyone to get them. Huh. Maybe she would try the whole socializing thing more often. Nah, that was about as likely to happen as her wearing pink. Or any colour whatsoever, for that matter.
Astrid stayed silent as she took the drink off of the bar. She took a sip and coughed, feeling her face flush as the liquid burned her throat. Smooth. Reeaaally smooth. Astrid silently kicked herself following the childish display.
October was conversing with his stalker as well, apparently. She detected something about aliens, which she thought maybe translated to extraterrestres. That would make sense, considering the green skin and red eyes. Was he really an alien, though? She had simply pegged him for a mutant. Perhaps she had been wrong. She had been known to do that. From time to time, of course. The rest, however, she wasn't sure about. But the green man looked like he was getting angry.
Astrid glanced at the man who bought her a drink. "Why do this?" She asked him curiously, keeping half of her attention on him and the other half on October and glasses. She wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but she was always up for a fight. Who would she fight for? Well, that would depend on who had the worst intentions, or maybe just on who bought her the most drinks.

The green man opened his zipper like mouth into a smile. He gave her the name of October, which, if she remembered correctly, was the name of a month. It was a strange name, she noted, for a strange man. Even more strange, he had declined her offer to help. America was an eternal source of confusion for the young girl. "Valkyrie," she supplied in return.
Her eyes brightened as he offered her a glass of wine. She hadn't even needed to coerce him or get a fake I.D. In fact, the bartender hadn't even batted an eye. Maybe Astrid should have just asked in the first place.
She didn't receive wine, though. Instead, she was handed a bottle of some sort of ale. She looked at it cautiously, not bothering to hide her disappointment. It smelled sort of funny as she sniffed it, and she wasn't sure what to make of it. It was still a far better option than her soda, though, so she tried it. Swishing it around her mouth for a moment or two, she decided that it wasn't horrible.
>>"Seems like we both have stalker problems. If they start something, want to trade?"
"No!" She replied immediately, slightly too loud. There was no way she wanted to take on the smaller man; that would be boring. Besides, she was sure she could handle herself, probably even better than the funny looking green man. "I take big man in sleep," she told him in a haughty tone.
She leaned back and tried to suave as she looked around the bar. The entire effect was pretty much ruined, however, when she choked briefly on her drink. Astrid wiped her mouth with an embarrassed expression, trying her best to act like nothing had happened.

Bars were just downright boring when you couldn't drink. Back in France, where wine was cheaper than water, there were much looser drinking laws set. But in America, Astrid hadn't had any luck at getting someone to serve her. Everyone was sitting around and having a good time while Astrid was forced to wallow in the fact that she still had seven more years until anyone would serve her. Of course, that would require some kind of I.D., which required her to be a legal citizen, but she hadn't quite pieced that all together yet.
As she sat staring at her liquor-less soda, she tried to brainstorm ways of duping the bartender. Maybe she could... Swipe someone's I.D.? No, scratch that. Astrid had never met someone who looked even remotely like her. Ever.
Perhaps there was a way she could get her hands on a fake I.D.? Yeah, that could work, but she'd have to figure out where to get one first. She scanned the room, searching for someone who looked the type to make a fourteen year old a fake I.D. It was, after all, a less than upstanding establishment.
Her black eyes fell immediately a green man sitting at the bar. He was difficult to miss, with his red eyes, lime complexion, and very bald head.
Huh, someone weirder looking than me.
The man was obviously glancing around the establishment as well, although he was trying hard to make it look as though he wasn't. Astrid followed his gaze over to a man with wild hair, who looked down right as the green man spotted him. That was the body language of someone who had been caught staring.
Her white fingers tapped the table as she thought about how to proceed. The man with the dark hair looked to be the seedy type, though probably not the kind to hand out I.D.s to minors. He was more the rough-you-up-behind-a-dumpster kind. The green man, on the other hand, had sort of a shifty nature to him. Maybe his persona was completely due to the alcohol, but something about him made Astrid believe that he was her best bet in the joint. So, the decisions was made that she would be on his side for whatever went down. And, from the looks of things, something was going to happen.
She stood up and walked as confidently as she could manage in her new heels that weren't quite broken in and sat down on a sticky bar stool beside the green man. "You want help hurt him?" She asked him quietly. Her accent coated the words which formed an almost complete sentence. Astrid hadn't spent all that much time in American bars, but based on her knowledge of pop culture, she knew that things had ended in a bar fight. So, obviously, a man being stared at must have no other intentions other than fighting.

>>“Woah! Nice wings! You can fly?”
What kind of stupid question was that? Astrid had understood it, though, which had been nice, but it was still stupid nonetheless. Was it common for American people to ask such stupid questions? If Astrid could manage English sarcasm, she would have, but instead she just gave him a look that would have read 'well duh'.
The second boy had been just as rude to her as she was expecting. Well, with cool powers came the right to be rude, she supposed. She knew that law well. The way he phrased it sounded like he did have a destination in mind, though, which meant she could follow them.
Apparently the second boy's comment had made the first one angry. Very angry, in fact. Though he kept the same stupid, naive tone that he had carried before. Didn't he know that every mutation came with concerns and difficulties? The world wasn't exactly going to cater to him. Especially not the world of winged teenaged girls.
Bah, whiny Americans.
She wasn't even entirely sure what had made her want to come to that country in the first place. It certainly wasn't the food. Or their taste in music. Or the fashion. It was mostly the villainy, really.
"Much sorry," Astrid did her best to stretch out the words she used and to roll her eyes at the same time. It probably didn't come across as rude as she would have liked, but she was proud of what she did manage. "I going along you," she then told the second boy determinedly. It she didn't pose it as a question at all, actually. She made sure that it sounded like a statement that they were just going to have to deal with. Astrid was prepared to put up a fight if they didn't.

Astrid gave the boy a malicious smirk. He had taken the bait. Obvious, everything was going exactly as Astrid had planned and there would be absolutely no hiccups now. She had him in the palm of her hand.
She turned the wallet upside down, frowning as she felt the cheap fabric. The boy really needed to be taught what was cool and what was most definitely not cool in any way. She turned her attention back as things began to tumble out from the wallet and onto the ground.
Astrid crouched down as she examined the her new plunder. There were a few rectangular slips of paper with his name on them, a few with a picture. So, his name was Jude. It was a nice name, not that she would ever let that sentence fall on human ears.
As she was going through the items, something caught her eye. It was all shiny. Not shiny laminated, but a different kind of shiny. Astrid picked it up and examinated it carefully, even taking a seat on the ground so she could study it better.
Someone tried to approach her slowly from behind, but she absently threw a crystal in their direction to warn them not to step closer. She missed completely, but it did the trick. The crystal ended up grazing a bystander on the arm and then struck a nearby car.
<What's this?> Astrid asked Jude curiously, having completely forgotten about her purpose of fear and torture. Instead, she was completely absorbed with curious thoughts.
She held the little thing up to her ear and shook it, trying to figure out what it did. Perhaps it was one of those cell phone things that she had never bothered to look into.

Astrid had caught the second boy's attention again. He definitely had a good eye if he was able to see her movements. She smiled slightly to herself. Maybe she could make things interesting.
Astrid stood up to her full height. Anything the boy hadn't been able to see before, he would definitely be able to see now. She stepped lightly along the side of the building as she watched them, using her wings to steady herself. It was sort of exhilarating to walk like that, just on the edge of falling, but not quite.
She beat her wings behind her a few times and took off, soaring through the air only to land after just a few seconds. She did her best to make the most intimidating entrance she could manage, but it didn't turn out exactly how she wanted. She had meant to make a huge noise and she landed and end up in a cool action pose just like in the movies, but the noise was almost silent and she wobbled on her heels.
"Where you going?" She asked the boys, growling through her accent. That sounded right. Her English was getting much better (in her opinion, of course). Astrid threw in a smirk at the end. While it might not scare the second boy, she might end up making the first boy miss a heartbeat or two.
She didn't really want to scare them, though. That wasn't the ultimate goal. What she really wanted was to know where they were going. Things had been getting a bit boring lately with the few places she knew to go in the city.

Love the idea! I think it should work really well on the site. She's a little young to be a politician, but Astrid is here for all of your scapegoating needs <3 <3 <3
(Also, I have a suggestion for an NPC, but I'll wait until we've ruled out a volunteer first.)

The creature was slowing down. Slowing down for her. That meant he wanted her to fly next to him. Astrid had truly made it into the big leagues now. Obviously she had garnered the respect of this absolute evil, which was almost more than her adolescent brain could handle. Her heartrate had risen to almost twice the speed of normal and she wasn't even really exerting herself.
The creature started to list of some names or words or something that went right over Astrid's head. Maybe it was her excitement or her lack of English, but she didn't really catch anything after "Jabberwocky". At least she now had something to call him by. "Jabberwocky," she repeated softly to herself, butchering the pronunciation.
"I am Astrid," she managed through the fog of the language barrier. Then she remembered something; her name wasn't very evil. In fact, it was hardly evil at all. She needed something much better if she was going to spend time with Jabberwocky. "No, Valkyrie," she covered quickly, pulling from her memory of the winged women.
She looked down at the city below them, admiring the view. She hadn't been that high in a good while, actually. Of late she had been sticking mostly to the tops of buildings and houses where she could get a good view of things. But it felt good to get up into the higher altitude and stretch her wings a bit more than usual. It did seem strange that they hadn't landed yet or even started to go in the direction of anywhere in particular.
"Where we going?" She asked Jabberwocky curiously from her newly assumed position beside him.

Astrid's heart soared high into her chest as the creature complimented her shot. It was the best feeling that she had ever experienced, like she was floating on cloud nine. The rest of the world had tuned out around her, and everything seemed sort of blurry and distorted, save the creature in front of her. He had liked her shot. Actually, he hadn't just liked it; he had called it beautiful.
Astrid let off a bit of a sigh as she looked at the creature. She realized that she probably looked like one of those stupid teenagers that attended concerts and professed their love to people that weren't aware they existed, but she didn't really care. The creature was the most amazingly evil thing she had ever seen.
>>"Follow me."
In all honesty, the creature could very well have told her to jump off a cliff with no feathers on her wings and she would have done it. He had her, hook, line and sinker.
"Okay," she sighed dreamily and changed her wings back to feathers so she could fly once more. She took off, matching speed behind him. Her flying was slightly off kilter since she had fired two rows of crystals from the same wing. Flying was slightly awkward, but she tried to make it appear as though it wasn't as she did her best to keep up with the creature. She hung back just a little, though, not wanting to impose or think better of herself than she should.

The grape thing seemed to be working well for Astrid. She had managed to freak out the boy she had initially throw the grape at, making her giggle when he dropped to the ground. He seemed even more scared than most people, actually. The majority of the people she had hit prior to him had just looked around for a moment and then brushed it off like nothing had happened. The boy, however, looked as though someone had tasered him from behind. It actually took him a full minute to compose himself.
What Astrid hadn't expected, was the attention of a second boy with strange movements. While the first boy's eyes had sweeped right past her, the second boy looked as if he could see her. While she was confident that her black wings would block any recognizable features (such as her skin), it was still a bit unnerving to have someone focus so intently on her. Yes, she had sort of wanted the attention, but now that she had it, it was... Strange.
Astrid kept her eyes focused on the two boys as they talked to each other just below her. The entire time the second boy was talking, his gaze never seemed to waver from Astrid. It made her want to squirm in her skin as she tried to make out what they were saying. Unfortunately, the distance between them was too large for her to do so.
The boys had started to move down the street. Astrid panicked. They were the first interesting thing to happen all night, and the second boy was the first one to ever spot her when she sat like that. As much as the feeling unnerved her, she didn't want to lose it.
Astrid croutched on the edge of the building and inched along with the boys, doing her best to keep pace. If they started to move any faster, she would be able to take off.

There was something about sitting on rooftops with her legs hanging off the side of the building that was incredibly appealing to Astrid. Sure, her dresses tended to get caught on the rough bricks and occasionally she was bothered by a bird or two, but for the most part, it was perfect. Especially when the sun had set and the smell of the earlier rain of the day still hung in the air.
Astrid breathed in deeply as a gentle breeze blew over her black feathers. Munching on a bag of grapes, she watched the passersby make their way in the intricate streetways of the city. Every once and a while, someone would catch her eye and she would throw a grape at them, causing them to look up at her. Astrid would then cover her body with her black wings, causing her to blend into the dim lighting.
As much as she refused to admit it, she sort of wanted someone to notice her. Sure, it felt good to be evil and have people fear you, but it also meant she didn't really get much conversation. Especially since there were very few people she could actually comfortably converse with. The last person she remembered speaking to in French was that bratty boy with the velcro wallet, and she wasn't exactly going to call him up for a cup of coffee. So, throwing grapes at random strangers seemed like a better option.
As her black eyes scanned the crowd, they fell on a young boy that looked rather antsy. He kept shoving his hands in his pockets and mumbling to himself. Astrid chuckled. At least she didn't look like that.
She reached deep into her bag and tossed a little spherical grape at him, watching as it bounced onto the pavement. It was unlikely that he would even notice her, but it was almost more fun just to cause confusion. He looked like he need confusing. Plus, it wouldn't even hurt if he did notice her. Then maybe she would even get to talk to someone.
