The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max had never been to a black tie event before, but since joining Haven he found himself in a number of situations outside of what he would call normal. Devons visit to the mansion had felt like some kind of twist of fate. Max had always wanted to do good, to help his fellow mutant, to serve a purpose beyond just trying to get by. Devon had given him that.
He had moved into his new apartment when he received the invitation. The letter had said Max would be good to talk to the people there about Haven, plus his love of music would enjoy the acts.
He had called down to the front desk to ask about renting a tux for the event only to have a tailor show up at his door a few moments later. He had been measured and the man returned no less than an hour later with everything ready. Haven had class, he had to give them that.
Max entered the event as a group called the New York city Philharmonics began to play. Max had intended to find Devon and say hello once he arrived, but the music captured Max's heart. The group was phenomenal. Max may have been a street dancer, but he had been raised on classical music. He could waltz and salsa as easily as tutting or breaking.
The group finished and Max applauded. He began to walk through the event, grabbing a flute of drink as he went. Sure enough he found Devon but the man was surrounded by people. Max walked behind some director that was in conversation with Devon and as he passed offered his new mentor a sly wave.
He mulled about through the crowd. He was there to chit chat but he realized he lacked the importance of most of the crowd to do so. He was almost ready to call it a loss when he saw one of the performers from the Philharmonics. She was wearing a elegant black dress and Max recognized her instantly as the violinist. She was talking to another woman who stood with an aura of elegance.
Max walked up to the pair.
"Pardon me for intruding," He said politely.
He extended his hand and gave a smile.
"My name is Max Rosewood. I just wanted to compliment your excellent performance. You were truly superb."

"Archery huh? Sounds like fun I'm no good with a bow. How's the X-men thing? It sounds like a lot of all work and no play." Max responded with a smile.
A dog, large by Max's definition entered and Mirror introduced him. Angua the hound seemed gentle enough but Max decided he was best not to find a reason to make the hound angry.
"Nice to meet you. Jesus is your last name Stark Maya?" Max said with a laugh, "Is game of thrones still considered a pop culture thing since I left?"
He continued to enjoy his feast. The food tasted like heaven.
"As for me I'm pretty easy to figure out. Music's my passion. I dance mostly but I've been fooling around trying to learn guitar." He said, suddenly he gasped in surprise
"Oh man. I just remembered I had my iPod and headphones on me when I died. Man there goes my whole library and those headphones were the best." He called out in sorrow before stuffing an oatmeal cake into his mouth for comfort.

Max saw the pink haired man enter and set his bag down. Max had heard about Cafas but had never run into him around the mansion. As they locked eyes he couldn't read anything about the guy. No pleasant smile, just a blank expression.
-"Well Max, if that's a yo-yo, then I have got to see this. Level one is all yours."
Max didn't know how Cafas knew his name, but the remake seemed like it held genuine curiosity. Max gave him a thumbs up as Cafas introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you. Hope I don't disappoint." Max grinned.
He hadn't expected an audience for his session and it made him curious as to whether he was being tested or not. He grinned. If this was some kind of test he would just have to blast through this level.
The round began and an explosion rang out. A building down the street and to the left combusted. Max heard a scream and saw a man fly out of the fourth floor window. The man grabbed onto the edge of the balcony and dangled there.
"Objective: Neutralize targets and secure civilian." The danger room announced.
On call the doors of the building flew open and Max saw two robots walks out. They looked like the standard Bots the police used around town, except they had some kind of tanks on their back with lines that ran to their palms.
Max took off at a full sprint towards the building. The hololight civilian was the mission priority. Max needed to get up there.
As Mad neared the building the Bots turned on him. The one on the left extended its hand and a blast of fire rushed out of its hand towards Max. The young dancer rolled and he felt the heat wash over him as he ducked the blast. He came out of the roll onto his knees. He was in range now.
With a flick of his wrist he threw his yo-yo, sending out his power as he did. It swung outward and collided with the Bot who had tried to cook him. As the yo-yo made contact Max extended his bubble of gravity over the Bot. The Bot flew backward, propelled back into the building by the augmented gravity.
The second Bot fired off a blast as Max recalled his yo-yo. The young dancer twisted his way out of the attack and flung himself at the Bot. The Bot threw a punch at Max but he spun out of the way and his hand reached out, grabbing the Bots extended arm. He formed another bubble around this Bot and grinned as the Bot hurled itself across the street and stuck to the opposing wall, pinned there by a field of double gravity.
Max changed gravity on himself, pulling himself to the wall of the building. He ran up the side.
"Easy." He thought to himself.
He reached the third story in an instant and was just about to extend his arm to grab the dangling civilian when the wall he was running up exploded. Max pulled himself away from the building as rubble blasted outward. The civilian screamed again as he was thrown off the balcony.
A third Bot appeared in the hole that had formed in the wall of the building. Time seemed to slow as Max hung suspended in the air, his arms raised to shield himself from the blast. He could feel his power holding the two Bots below him, and he knew he was reaching his limit of surface area for his power. He would have to be careful.
He reasserted gravity on himself and fell. The civilian tumbled down in front of him. The Bot leap at Max from above. As he fell Max spun and threw out both of his yo-yo. One streaked down to the civilian and wrapped around his leg. Max threw out his power and made the man weightless. At the same time the other yo-yo wrapped itself around the the head of the falling bot. He released the yoy holding the civilian as the hololight man gently touched the ground. Now came the tricky part.
Max grabbed the wire of the yo-yo with his free hand and doubled gravity on himself. He pulled the wire as hard as he could at the same moment. He watched as the force of double his weight and all his strength pulled the wire wrapped around the Bots head and with a mechanically snapping noise he saw the head seperate from the body.
He made himself weightless a moment before hitting the ground and used the momentum from his fall to spring off the sidewalk, grab the civilian and pull them safely down the street as the last bit hit the ground and exploded.
A buzzer sounded and the Bots and civilian vanished. Max felt his augmented gravity bubbles disappear and let out a sigh. He was breathing heavy and sweating from the exercise and use of his power.
"Level One Complete. Level two will begin in 60 seconds" the danger room announced.
Max collected his yo-yo and turned to Cafas, grabbing his towel as he went and wiping the sweat from his face.
"So what did you think?" He asked with a proud smile," you want to takelevel two? I don't wanna hog all the fun."

-I’m a psychologist, I see a few people here, though I can’t name them. HIPAA and such, though no one should be ashamed for seeing a counselor. It can help with stress relief if nothing else, party what my actually business the Havens are all about,”
So the guy was shrink, that made sense. It also helped explain why Max felt like the guy was so familiar. He had mentioned a business. The look, the calm pleasant tone, Max had seen his parents interact this way at business functions alot.
"Awesome. Nah I understand. I grew up in a pretty well backward town. Once my mutation started it helped to talk to somebody." Max nodded, "What are the Havens?"
-“As for my mutation, I’m atmokinetic; I control the weather. It’s not so basic and fundamental a thing as the law of relativity But I’m rather proud of it. You should be too.”
Max laughed, "I wasn't trying to spit on Newton's grave, though I really have to admit I'd skip physics for music about everyday. Weather control that's super interesting. I'd love a demonstration sometime."

Devon returned Max's handshake. The guy had a brilliant smile and seemed to effortlessly exude confidence. Hadden, why did that name seem so familiar? Max had the sneaking suspicious he had heard it before but couldn't place where. He gave a small laugh at Devons remark.
"I prefer to think that I'm a bit more graceful than this usually." He smiled.
He felt his face redden, he usually didn't get compliments on his ability.
"It's not as impressive as it looks," He said waving a hand behind him dismissivly, "It's just gravity manipulation so floating basically just feels like pulling a lever. What's your gift?"
He felt stupid for asking so bluntly. Some mutants were a little shy about talking about there gifts. His few days at the mansion had already gotten him slightly more used to it but he knew it wasn't the norm everywhere.

It had been a long day.
Apparently returning from the dead came with a lot of logistical problems Max had not expected. He had gone to the bank and was pleased to discover that either his parents never knew he had an account there or the bank had never received notice of his death. Either way he was able to get out his funds, which turned out to be a bit more than he expected. He supposed there were perks to having a high interest savings account he hadn't been able to touch for a year.
The money went fast though. Max had found a guy and purchased a fake ID, finding it a simpler solution than the DMV. It said his name was John Smith and that he was 22 but hey couldn't complain. The rest of the money had gotten him a pay as you go phone and three pairs of clothes and a hoodie. He was wearing the hoodie now with a decent pair of new jeans and some solid black workboots. Max strapped his fanny pack around his waist and felt like himself again.
Max left his room and started heading towards the main hall. He passed teachers and students a felt a stab of uneasiness. He felt like a charity case at the mansion. He had already graduated when he moved in so being a "student" felt a little wrong. He was no X-men that was for sure. So it left him with a place to stay and him doing little to earn it.
He was lost in this thought as he rounded the corner to the main lobby stairs and nearly ran into a rather sharp dressed gentleman who seemed equally lost in thought. Max halted quickly to avoid a collision but felt his new boots slip on the wooden floor. He lost his balance and felt himself start to fall down the stairs.
Instinctively Max nullified gravity on himself. Instead of faceplanting on the step below he ended up hover a few inches out from the topmost step at eye level with the man he had nearly bulldozed into.
"Hey man sorry about that." Max said.
He lowered himself onto the second step and extended his hand to the man.
"I'm Max. Haven't been here for more than a few days so still trying to get to know everyone. You a teacher?" He asked.

Max produced a genuine smile at Maya's cake joke. It was in that moment he decided they were going to be friends, she had pulled him out of a hell of a spot and was a decent enough person to humor him.
He got up taking Maya's standing as a cue and walked to the office door. He opened it and gestured for her to lead the way to the kitchen.
The best part about living in a mansion full of mutants is the kitchen is always stocked to feed an army. Max entered and immediately went to the cabinets and pulled out a number of cooking supplies.
"Do since I went on a bit of a tmi trip with you how about you tell me about yourself. What are you into when you aren't swooping in to save naked weirdos?" He said as he placed some pots and skillets on the stove.
He listened as he cooked, making a feast of random assortments of food. His hands worked mechanically, you didnt live alone and not learn to cook if you liked to eat. In a few short moments he had everything sitting on the island. Fettuccine Alfredo ended up in a bowl beside a plate of soft tacos which was leaning against a platter of pizza bites. He grabbed a few boxes of snake cakes and a some cokes and started chowing down.
"Dig in. Plenty to go round." He said, his mouth overflowing with food.

Max would have said the news hit him like a truck, but it felt a little too on the nose for his poetic tastes. He watched Maya closely as she looked at the screen. As she leaned back he felt a lump form in his throat.
"Look man, I don't mean to freak you out, but... this here says you moved in about year ago. And that... a year ago today... it says you were hit by a car. And died."
Max just stared at her for a moment, waiting for her to burst out laughing, tell him she was just messing with him and send him on his way. Instead they held eye contact and he saw no break in her stressed out frown.
"Thats...rediculous. Yeah I got hit by a car but it was a few hours ago at most." He stammered. He peered around the desk and looked at the screen. He saw his file, saw the details, but it wasn't until his gaze drifted to the corner of the screen and he saw the date that he actually believed it.
He stood up without knowing why. His brain was frozen but his body refused to be still trying to compensate. His hands picked up things of Maya's desk and he felt his fingers fidget with them. A million thoughts collided on him at once and out of his mouth.
"My parents think I'm dead. They would have had a funeral. A year? Where have I been? How am I here?" He sputtered.
He sat back down and did the only thing he could to not go crazy. He shut it all down, he imagined a blob, an oozing orb of fear, panic, and worry and he threw it in a box locked it up with chains and three it to the bottom of an ocean in his mind. It would resurface he was sure, but couldn't have it now.
He looked at Maya.
"So you're an xer. Have you ever ran into this before. I lost my phone and Id think the school could help me with that?" He asked calmly.
"Also given the circumstances do you think maybe I could have something special to eat? It appears I've been missing quite a few meals lately." He laughed, not a happy laugh more of a wild sputter as he felt himself wanting to break again.

They sun had just risen when he arrived on the slightly chilly beach. He was wearing a hoodie but Max knew the day was supposed to be a warm one and he was excited to take in the ocean air as he allowed himself to just stand and take in all the glory of the sunrise.
"Okay let's get started" He said to himself.
It took about a half an hour to find all the resources he wanted. He walked up and down the beach enjoying the feel of the air pumping in and out of his lungs as he went. When we finished he found a flat plot of beach and dropped the massive bundle of sticks, seashells, and driftwood he had gathered and set to work.
Moat people would think building a sand castle was a childish way to spend a morning, but Max felt like his life had been a little too serious lately and felt a grin spread across his face as he worked. He adjusted the gravity on himself to almost nothing so as not to hinder his work and set to work digging out sand with the small shovel and pail he had brought with him.
It was a daunting task but Max enjoyed the meticulous labor. He started by compressing the sand with his shovel to make a floor and set to work building.
Time passed in a blur and before he knew it his stomach was growling and he checked his phone to see that it was almost noon. He had built a massive structure. The first floor comprising of an archway on one side large enough to walk under supported by wood. He had pushed seashells into the sand creating a rather unique design on the arch. He had mirrored it on the opposing side and left the other two walls closed off. Inside he built a small spiral staircase that led to a second floor and built a support structure underneath using the sticks and wood along with wet sand.
The second story was open and he had sculpted out tower like blocks to give the structure a castle like feel. Four pieces of driftwood formed a support above that and Max used some seaweed and sand to build a small roof for the top level. He had decorated the place with seashells making it look like a structure you would expect to see in "The Little Mermaid" leagues under the sea.
He looked down and saw a small crowd had formed around him as he built. People were taking pictures on their phones and he saw someone had placed a hat on the beach that was slowly filling with change and small bills. The crowd might have deterred some from working but honestly Max loved the attention.
He finished his work and floated down to the beach, slowly enough to not cause harm but fast enough to not seem inhuman. He collected the small amount of earnings he had received and sat in the arch facing the ocean. From his pack he produced a ham sandwich in a zip lock bag along with some chips and began to chomp down his makeshift meal.

"Session Beginning level 0" a cool female voice announced through the speakers.
Max stood in the center of the danger room that had transformed into a partially destroyed urban street. He was in his standard jeans and a black t-shirt and smiled as he unzipped his fanny pack.
Usually he wouldn't ever go into the danger room to train, but after what he can only call a year long blackout he felt he needed to see if his body was still as spry as it had been when he was gone. A car accident followed by nothing before waking up naked in an alley a year later. The police report had said he was dead on the scene during the crash, yet here he was. His special circumstances had allowed him to be given access to the room and a private block of time.
He had decided to start off easy. He pulled his hands put of his pack and felt the reassuring weight of his steel yo yos in his hands. Each one was wound with high durability metal wire and they were hefty. With a flick of his wrist Max sent one out in a simple walk the dog. With a push of effort he sent his power down the wire and watched as the yo-yo began rising up and flying around as he changed the gravity on it. He sent it in wide arcs and allowed himself to push out with his ability until the alarm in his pocket went off and the yo yo fell.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket. He had continually used his power for three minutes before feeling it begin to fail. Max smiled, it seemed his powers weren't any weaker than before. Now to see what he could do.
"Begin level one" He called to the room.
"Beginning Level One in 30 seconds, waiting on new arrival." The female voice responded.
As the danger room countdown began Max turned as he heard the door open. He thought he would be alone in the session but apparently he had been quite mistaken.

Max dressed himself, appreciative of the mock privacy. As he pulled the shirt on he felt a little awkward. The x team shirt felt strange on him, like he was wearing a costume. He wasn't a member of anything, let alone some mutant police force. He let out a little cough after he dressed to signal it was okay to turn around and smiled at Mirror.
"Thanks again Maya. Yeah I moved in a few days ago. Had a little apartment but got ousted for not being able to make rent. Starving artist and all that crap."
He felt a little awkward when asked about his power. He knew the people he had met in the city were a little more tolerant of his kind than those in his hometown he still never liked discussing what he could do.
He picked up a stapler off Maya's desk.
"Cool codename by the way. Mirror travel is neat though not for me I think. I don't have any cool name." Max said.
He spread his power over the stapler reversing the gravity on it. It fell upward and smacked against the ceiling. Max negated gravity around himself and floated up to it. He grabbed the stapler and negated his effect on it and lowered to the ground.
"I have a personal gravitational aura that I can manipulate. Make myself weightless or pull myself in any direction. Same goes for anything I touch." He concluded.

"Dude. C'mon, I'll take you. I work there."
The words were like a spell. Max hadn't been in the mansion for very long, hell he didn't really consider himself a student since he'd hadn't ever attended a class. Mostly the mansion had just been a place to stay after he got evicted from his apartment.
She offered him her hand. It seems a rather odd thing to do and Max almost told her he was okay to walk. She worked at the mansion, she was probably a mutant. Teleportation would easily explain how she had found him.
He took her hand and tried not to yell put in protest as she pulled him into a shop window. Instead of smashing through it however Max felt himself slide into the glass and tried to take in the sensation of moving through the wondow. He could feel them traveling at a high speed and saw sweeping images of mirrors that they passed. He shut his eyes as his stomach struggled against the sensation.
A moment later Max fell out of a mirror and onto a carpeted floor with less than his usual grace. Luckily the blanket had stayed on and he lifted his head to take in the room. It was some kind of office, quite nice in fact. He rose and walked over to once of the chairs and sat down placing his head on the cold wood.
Traveling through the mirror had messed with him. He was used to being thrown around but something about the smooth mode of travel had put him off balance.
With his head still down he gave the girl a thumbs up
"Thanks. I didn't catch your name earlier by the way. You said you work here? Teacher?"

She asked if he could remember his own name. God he must look like a lunatic. He let out a frustrated sign and began to explain himself.
"Yes I remember my name. I'm Max. I'm not high or insane. Look the last thing I remember is getting hit by a car as I went to get dinner. Next thing I know I'm in an alley as NYC'S next big streaker" He said slightly frantic as he opened the blanket as if to verify his story.
He realized instantly how stupid he was and closed the blanket back around himself. His stomach grumbled loudly. It was true he had been on his way to get food but after mentioning it he felt instantly famished as of he hadn't eaten in days.
"Sorry I'm just a little out of my element here. I moved into the Xavier mansion a few days ago and I wanted to get back and put something on." He continued.
He didn't know what else to say. He couldn't blame the girl for thinking him mad. If he had been in her place he would have felt the same way. His stomach rumbled again loudly.

As usually he was having a time of it. Max had rounded a corner just as a police cruiser was turning down a seperate street. He hoped they hadn't spotted him but wasn't about to slow down to see. He was walking at a pace that was just below a run when he passed a shop window. He heard a voice call out from behind him and his face turned scarlet as he turned around.
The girl had appeared out of nowhere. She hadn't been on the street a moment ago. Max's initial thought was she had to be a mutant. It was quickly followed by an assessment that she was very pretty. She seemed about his age and her figure was....Max instantly shut off his train of thought as he remembered his current context.
His face turning every brighter Max had the strongest urge to cover himself. A split second later he realized it was perhaps a little too late for that and he simply walked over and accepted the blanket, attempting to seem unfazed by his situation.
"Thank you." He said as dignified as he could.
He threw the blanket over himself and appreciated the warmth on the cold night.
"So nice night huh?" He said stupidly.
His facade of confidence broke and he looked up and down the street.
"Please tell me you can get me out of here. I'm trying to get home and I have no idea how I got here." He confessed
