The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Headlights, a car horn, tires screeching...
Darkness.
Max felt a sharp pain in his chest and a breath of air weezed out of him as if he'd forgotten how to breath for a time. His eyes opened groggily and he took a moment to let them adjust to the dark alley he found himself in.
He was naked lying on the cold ground. He had no memory of how he got there. He sat for a moment thinking on it. He remembered crossing a street and hearing someone yell. His body quivered at the memory of an impact and then....nothing.
He pushed back a wave of panic and disorientation as he rose. He looked out of the alley and saw a vacant street. A clock on a nearby building told him it was around 2 in the morning. If he was out at this hour maybe he had been out enjoying himself, but that felt wrong in the current context.
Max peered out of the alley and down both sides of the street he was on. River Road was plastered on a street sign down the way. He knew the location, he was a few miles from the mansion. The street was empty which Max found to be a good thing given his indecent exposure.
He began a brisk walk down the street and took a left making his way back to the mansion. He had few other options given his predicament and would have to try to make his way to the mansion quickly before he was noticed. He was lucky he awoke so late at night, the trip in rush hour would have led to a much more embarrassing and complicated situation. He kept his eye out for places to hind in case he ran into anyone and prayed luck would be on his side.

It's funny how one choice can mess up your entire night.
Max had just finished his Tubby Joe's pizza. It had been good, but how could it not be. Few stands had that pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage combo he liked so much. He threw out his napkin, stashed his wallet in his fanny pack beside his combat yo-yos and stood enjoy the nice evening air.
It was seven. The sun was almost completely gone over the horizon. He could go straight to the theater and wait outside, or cut through the alley he was standing next to and take the scenic route to the theater. Maybe it was the night air, or his excitement for the concert, maybe he just wanted to stretch his legs. Either way he decided to take the alley and walk through the long way.
Big mistake.
He had made it through the alley and was preparing to cross the street. He waited for the light to change like all good boys do and started across the asphalt. As he made his way across the road he was surprised to hear someone yell off to his left. The sound of a horn met his ears and he turned just in time to see the car that hit him.
Some people say that when they were in accidents they blacked out, forgetting the event. Max wished he was one of those people.
Instead he felt with stunning clarity the black sedan slam into him. His leg have a nasty Crack as he rose up. His head hit the windshield and he heard the sound of cracking glass.
His momentum carried him over the vehichle. He grabbed desperately at his power, but his body refused the call. His back slammed into the top of the sedan and he got a wonderful view as he came down and landed on the asphalt on his face.
His vision swam, everything around him was a low rumble. He tried to move bit failed. He laid there for what felt like an eternity. Blood tricked down into his eye and he tried to bat it away to no avail.
Color flooded his sight as the ambulance showed up. The EMTS rushed over. Blackness. He awoke to feel himself being strapped in and lifted into the ambulance. Blackness.
"Come on kid, stay with me." He heard the EMT.
He opened his eyes. Florescent light hurt them. He was being wheeled into a hospital.
"Family or relatives?" He heard a voice ask.
"ID says he is from Virginia. No idea." The EMTS replied.
"Find them, get them on the phone." The strange voice countered.
He felt himself drifting out of consciousness again. What had he done wrong? All he had wanted was to go to the theater and have a nice night. It wasn't fair that....

Max rose himself and grinned at Juliette.
"Yeah I'll play for you sometime. Though you will have to bear with me I'm not quite as good at it as dancing." He said.
He ran the numbers in his head.
"I'll meet you here at 7:30? Give us time to get seated. It was a pleasure running into you." He said with a smile.
He looked out into the empty theater, envisioning the place full the next night. It was going to be a fun evening. He stepped off the stage and escorted Juliette out, locking the door behind him.
Max laughed at his mistaken understanding of what she had said. The fact that she had played piano way back when was impressive, it was a tough instrument to become capable at.
"Piano I'd cool, you should get back into it if you find the time. I play guitar, it helps me pass the time on the less then busy nights." He said.
He looked down a bit at her mentions of the shows.
"Usually I'm working back stage. The pay isn't too hot so I get two free tickets to anything I do pre production work on but don't have to work the actual performance. So far I've gotten into a couple of concerts and a performance of Shrek the Musical actually." He said with a laugh." I've auditioned for a couple of local performances but haven't had any luck yet. New Yorks a competing place to act."
She declined his invitation for dinner. There it was, the line in the sand. Some people take the friend zone pretty hard, but Max never understood that much himself. Live and let live. Besides he was just happy to have someone to possibly start hanging out with, friends are a hot comotaty when you spend your time mostly alone.
He grinned, " That's fair. Looks like it's tubby Joe's pizza cart for me again."
He thought about her talk of work.
"Must be tough having to be available at a moments notice what hospital do you work at? Might be good to know if God forbids something ever happened to me I know a place where the staff are compitent." He said.
The shorter woman greeted him kindly. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad if everyone were this nice. He had basically just shown up and announced himself a mutant. Almost anywhere else he would have been met with some less than friendly greetings but this woman seemed rather pleasant.
He adjusted the straps on his massive duffle bag and started following the woman towards the mansion. She mentioned enrolling in school and Max felt a pang in his stomach. Few terrors got to Max as much as the thought of being stuck in a classroom. She mentioned a team, perhaps she was talking about the Xmen. He had always heard there was no such thing as a free lunch, he would probably need to try and join if he was going to live in the cooshie mansion.
"I'm 19. Definitely not looking for more schooling, so yeah suppose I'm here to join the team." He sighed.
Maybe he could get a nice HR job with the group and not have to do a ton of field work. Whatever he ended up doing he hoped it didn't involve a ton of field work, so with his luck he'd be out on the streets patrolling everyday.
"I'm Max by the way. Are you staff here or just another resident?" He asked
Elliot grabbed his arm as they spun . Max had planned on releasing him and throwing him for a whirl, but apparently that wasn't going to happen. His mind raced for a new approach, a new strategy.
Elliot's head came racing upward. Headbutting someone usually hurt the attacker as much as the victim, but elliot was obviously ready for the hit. Well, what do you do.
Max thrust his head forward and let it collide with his opponents. It felt like someone had rang a bell in Max's skull his headphones and hat flew off of his head from the force of the impact. The sounds of the world burst back into Max's ears. The crowd, the cheering, that annoying ringing he couldn't get rid of at the moment.
He dropped his power, letting gravity reassert itself. He had planned on throwing Elliot, but with his arm locked around his knee and Elliot grabbing onto his arm it looked like it was going to be more of a twin dive. His head was pounding as he gripped Elliot with all his might and let the pair hurtle back down to the Earth.
Max leaned back and laid on the stage, letting his feet continue to dangle off the edge. She had talked about her mother in the past tense. It suggested a number of possibilities to Max, but decided against pulling that thread. If she had lost her mom he could only imagine the pain of dragging out memories.
"You play an instrument?" He asked somewhat surprised, "What do you play?"
His heart gave a little flutter when she agreed. She tried to push that down and be cool about it. It wasn't like they had said it was a date.
"Cool. It starts at 8. It's a local rock group, they aren't too bad from what I've heard. They play rock covers of classical music, think Trans-Siberian Orchestra on a much smaller scale." He explained.
He sat up.
"I would say we could grab dinner first but I really have no idea of anywhere good to eat. Honestly working the hours I do hadn't left me much time to get a social life going. Tonight is probably the closets thing I've had to hanging out since I moved here." He confessed

Max sat there listening to Juliette talk. Her life sounded interesting, moving around and seeing different places. He heard her talking about her mutation and her early life.
"Those first few months after the mutations show up are the worst. I was so afraid to tell my parents when I found out about my powers. I kept it from them for three years. Half the reason I'm able to use my powers so well now is cause I was so afraid of them going off and my parents finding out. I used to skip school and go to abandon rail yards, figuring out how my powers worked and pushing their limits." He smiled thinking of his younger days.
He heard her talk about her mother and he couldn't help but laugh.
"Wow so what I'm hearing is basically my lawyer/ doctor parents are mad at me because I didn't go to school or get a serious profession and would have loved a daughter who took the time to become a nurse. Inversely you have a mother who thought getting an education and having a stable job was selling out, and would probably have enjoyed a street performer traveling son. Isn't the world a strange place sometimes." he mused.
He thought for a moment about her reasons for becoming a nurse.
"I don't think you're a sellout by the way. You save lives and make a difference. While I spend my nights dealing with obnoxious patrons and poor quality DJs you are helping people. I think that is plenty to be proud of if you ask me." He smiled at her.
He looked back at his lights. They were all set properly and thinking of working on them with Juliette would always make him happy when he was back on this stage.
"Would you want to go to the concert tomorrow? I get two free seats as part of working her." He asked.

Well the day had finally come. Max had spent weeks trying to make enough money to pay his rent, who knew that a studio apartment in New York city would cost so much. He had saved up some but was still short for the month. The landlord had posted a notice that he had a week to pay or be evicted, and facing the fact Max decided it was time to move on.
He had heard rumors that there was a mansion nearby that took in mutants. Opening a popular gossip rag had turned out to be more helpful. He had read that the Mansion was a safe haven for mutants, and there were suspected ties to the X-Men. Max approached the gates, his duffle bag filled to the bursting. A small group of people were standing outside the gates looking terrified of something.
He pushed past an old couple and approached the gates. They looked scratched, bent, and generally in a bad state.
"Damn, maybe this place is not as flashy as they made it out to be." he sighed.
He tried the buzzer , to no avail. He decided he could either stand there and wait or make his own way in. If they took in mutants they would probably be okay with him making his own way in. He pulled his power, making himself weightless, and launched himself over the gate and onto the well groomed lawn of the mansion.
He noticed a woman walking away from the gate with her back turned. If what he had heard about the Mansion were true she was probably a kind teacher or something heading inside. He approached her slowly, shifting the bag on his back.
"Excuse me. is this the Xavier Mansion? I'm kinda looking for a place to stay." He said

Max watched as Juliette reformed into her normal state. She seemed less shy now, more comfortable with Max. He was glad. She walked over and sat at the end of the stage. He followed.
"Well I'm originally from Virginia. I moved here about a two months ago actually. I wanted to perform, and New York is one of the best places for it." He said smiling.
He knew that he probably sounded like a dreamer. Juliette was a nurse, she had gone to school and made something of herself. He was basically just some punk dancer trying to pay the bills.
"My parents were all for it when I left, until they realized I wasn't going to become a success overnight. They gave me an ultimatum to come home and work at my mom's law firm or they were gonna cut me off." He confided, "I told them they couldn't buy my freedom. Know it sounds stupid, working in a law firm is pretty cushie I'm sure. But sitting there all day pushing papers, I'd go insane."
He laughed, questioning how smart his decision had been.
"I got this gig to pay the bills. I also dance down at a club sometimes to help." He said blushing.
Dancing at Vibe wasn't glamorous. It wasn't stripping or anything but sometimes he had to dance in a cage or shirtless. It was far from the kind of dancing he wanted to be doing but it gave him good tips. God help him on ladies nights though.
"What about you. You said you moved her a few months ago, where did you live before that? What made you decide to be a nurse?" He asked.

Max grinned at her compliment. It wasn't that he didn't think he could dance, he knew he was good. There was just something in the sincerity of a compliment given like that. Dancing was his heart and saw, he had let her glimpse that and she had been pleased.
He watched her stand there for a moment. He was trying to anticipate what was going to happen. Maybe she would start glowing again. Maybe she would start shooting lazers from her eyes. Anything was possible, he liked that.
She changed. Her entire body morphed into radiant, pure energy. It was like pure light, pure power, had chosen to take on a human shape and walk amongst men. She was a sight to behold, he could see the Juliette he knew trough the light as it shifted, her nose her chin, but it was malleable. He let out an audible sound of appreciation. She cast light through the stage and theater, purer and brighter than any fixture he could use.
The show didn't stop there. Her limbs began to dissolve and for a moment he was worried something was wrong. What had been part of her one moment became tiny balls of light floating around the room. They swirled around him and he spread his arms out, letting the lights float around him and soaking up the warmth. It was beyond anything he had ever seen.
"Yeah. Way cooler then gravity." He said grinning, "you win without a doubt."

The logical side of his brain warned Max he was attacking a police sanctioned officer. It warned him he didn't know what these things could do. It told him he should stop, go peacefully, and apologize.
The other part of Max's brain punched that whiney voice in the face.
He flew at the Bot that had destroyed his art. He threw a punch but before he could land it the baton the police Bot had produced slammed him in the stomach. He flew backwards.
Okay these things were pretty fast.
He threw his arm under him, planting it in the soft grass and whirled around with a dancers grace. He flew back at the Bot and drove both his feet into its chest with a double legged kick. It hurt his bare feet, but his anger helped him ignore it.
He threw his power over the Bot, changing the gravity on it to angle towards a nearby tree. He kicked off and the Bot flew diagonally, slamming into the tree and tearing off a chunk of the bark. It struggled there, trying to pull itself from the wood.
He heard the roar of air in his ears and ducked just in time to see another Bot's police baton fly over him. He rolled between the Bots legs and came up on the other side of it. His hands flew into the fanny pack around his waist and he produced two heavy steel yo-yos, one in each hand.
He flicked his wrists and the yo-yos soared out, wrapping around the Bot. He sent his power down the metal wire he had wound them with and inverted the gravity on the Bot. He pulled back the yo-yos as the Bot "fell" straight upward.
"You aren't getting off that easy." He cried. He took off after the Bot, soaring into the air on weightlessness. He threw his yo-yos at the Bot, pounding it over and over again as it rose higher and higher. He didn't think he was harming it much but hitting it made him feel better.
The ascended over the tops of the nearby trees and flew ever higher. The Bot apparently wasn't programed for this kind of thing and was flailing madly trying to hit Max who was out of range.
When he was satisfied with the height Max threw out his yo-yos and watched as they wrapped around the Boy's neck.
"Desist. Please Desist." It cried.
"Fat chance" Max called back.
He sent his powers up the line again, realigning the Bots gravitational pull with the ground below and doubling it for good measure. He swung his arms around and the Bot blasted past him, hurting towards the ground. Max tugged the strings aiming the Bot at the vacant path he had been painting near and his yo-yos coiled back into his palms.
The Bot hurled towards the Earth and crashed into the path with a sickening crunch, making a decent crater around it as it did. The Bot he had stuck to the tree had got its bearings and was slowly crawling across the grass towards its companion, fighting the gravity change as it went.
"Darkshift " Max thought.
The idea had hit him suddenly. He scanned the park far below looking for his new friend to see how she was faring.

Max felt bad. Darkshift had apparently gone through some stuff with her parents by the tone she spoke in. Him blathering about his great childhood probably hadn't been a smart idea. He was glad she moved on from it quickly, choosing instead to discuss her mutation.
"That's amazing. All I do is make stuff float, and here you have a whole planets worth of animal powers at your disposal." He replied.
She answered him about how long she'd been in town and Max was about to reply when he heard a strange noise around them. He turned and saw five robots walking there way. Now Max wasn't a hick, but he hadn't been in big city NYC long enough to have had a run in with the Meta Bots yet.
The four Bots walked over, the lead Boy's head twitched, like it had a nervous tick.
They closed the distance on Max and Darkshift and stood a healthy distance away.
"ALERT: Citizens please move on. You are loitering." The Bot said in mechanical voice.
"Excuse me? This is a public park? You can't loiter here." Max replied.
"Move along citizen." The Bot countered.
Max cocked an eyebrow up in confusion.
"What's up with robo cop here?", he grumbled, "we aren't going anywhere."
The bottom nearest Max's painting looked at them.
"SCANNING: X-gene detected. Mutants present." It said.
It turned and looked at Max's painting.
"ALERT: Vandalism will not be tolerated." It spat out.
Max rose in panic to protest but he was too late. The Bot reached out and grabbed the sheet he had painted on. There was a sickening rip and it tore the sheet from the trees, leaving his masterpiece in three pieces fluttering in the wind.
Max was a pretty calm guy, and tended to not get upset often. Something about watching that mechanic cop tear his hard work apart set him off. White hot fury rose up in Max. It filled him in a way it never had before. Logic left him, common sense flew out the window. All he knew was that that Bot had destroyed something he had made. It had destroyed a part of him.
He let out a feral yell and charged the Bot, not caring that he was outnumbered, not caring that he was still barefoot from his painting experiment, all he could think about was hurting this thing.
"WARNING: Hostile Mutant detected. Apprehending target." The Bot said.
It's mechanic wrist twitched and a police baton shot out of it. Max didn't even slow he pounced at the machine consequences be damned.
"A nurse huh? That's awesome. I never got into the whole college thing. Couldn't sit still long enough to study." He sighed.
She agreed tl his terms. He took a few steps back from Juliette, making sure he was far enough away not to risk hitting here. He laughed at her question.
"You'd be surprised how much of one is in the other. Your gonna have to wait for Flight of the Sugar Plum Fairies though I'm just gonna freedtyle." He explained.
He opened his fanny pack and pulled out a beanie, sliding it over his hold curly hair. It would keep his hair from flying everywhere as he danced. He opened the music program on the tablet and set the song he wanted to play. He set the lights to auto, they would change with the music. It wasn't as good as if he were manually adjusting them himself but you can only do so much. He slid the tablet across the floor to the front of the stage and claps his hands in front of him.
The slow, melodic music sounded through the speakers on the walls. Max started tutting, sliding his arms and hands around him. He flexed his muscles as he went, moving to the flow and loosening them up for the harder moves to come. He slid along the floor and started popping, segmenting motion through his arms, legs, and hips.
The beat dropped and Max dove into a one armed handstand, kicking his legs up into a high V. He switched styles as the music picked up, changing to break dancing to match the bass and pounding rythme. He curled down into a ball, twisting his body and swinging his legs out in windmill kicks. He pulled his weight around, thrusting his legs out to each side as he held his weight on his hands. He went on doing tricks as the beat pounded away until it hit the chorus again and slowed down.
He popped up to his feet and switched again to robotics, moving across the stage in slow isolated movements. The lights flashed around him and he smiled like a madman. The song dropped again and he went into free form, combining all the three styles as he went.
He slid on his knees to the chair they he'd placed on the drummers spot and threw his legs under it, surrounding it now zero gravity. He rose up, standing on the bottom of the chair and floating in the air, his arms tutting and popping as he went. He kicked landing himself in the chair and continued his mid air dance, spinning and moving as he did.
These were the kinds of tricks he had to be careful using out in public. He couldn't go all out and risk exposure. Here in private with just him and Juliette he ceased to care, no longer simply utilizing his powers to help and instead becoming one with them to perform to the beat. His heart raced, pounding along with the music as he went.
It was times like these that Max felt connected to his mutation. It wasn't something to hide, something to make him feel different then other people. It was a blessing. A blessing of freedom and movement.
He flipped upside down in the chair and dropped towards the ground, spinning like a corkscrew before he placed his palms on the stage floor. He spun back up as the beat started to slow and regained his seat on the chair.
He shifted his weight, floating from side to side as he performed arm waves. The music slowed to a crawl and Max floated down towards earth, bringing the chair to rest as the last notes echoed through the theater.
He stood, his breathing heavy, and grinned at his companion. No matter what else he had shared that with her. To him it was a gift of expression, an act of freedom and his heart soared.
"So what you think? I believe it's your turn now." He grinned, on cloud nine
"Qualified professional? What do you do exactly?" He asked.
He continued his work as she explained a bit more about her power. She was starting to open up to him a bit more now. He catalogued the info she gave him. Apparently absorbing energy wasn't just something she could do, she made it sound like something she had to do.
Max smiled at her suggestion. Some people would be nervous or apprehensive when called upon to dance right then and there. For Max it was like asking a fish to swim. His mind instantly shuffled through his mental Playlist, selecting a song that would let him utilize a range of styles.
"Sure I'll give you a little show one we finish this set," He grinned, throwing up a finger for pause, "But it's gonna cost ya. I wanna see some of these party tricks you talk about after, and don't worry I don't pay the power bill here you can use all the juice you need."
She told him his lights were good and he floated back down to the stage floor to help her finish the adjustments on the light she was on. She asked him about his work.
"That's one should be good over there too," He told her about the light with a shrug,"The theater manager calls me in to help do stuff like this when shows come into town. It's pretty consistent work but I don't think I could call it full time. Mostly just enough to help me keep the bills paid at my place ya know? I'm one of those guys who dreams of being on the stage but practically ends up just working behind it."
He checked the drummers light set.
"Alright that looks good. If you wanna come down here and take a seat I'll throw a little something together for ya." He said excitedly, "That is if we have a deal?"
