The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max saw her standing up and get ready to go. He had expected as much. It had been an invitation without any expectations but Max could tell she might have taken it the wrong way when he invited her to his place. For a moment he was worried she was going to be offended and bail. Of course he would ruin the possibility of something good by speaking without thinking.
She took his phone and gave him her number and he chuckled. She was really full of surprises. She told him to call her after his meeting. She gave him a smile and his stomach did a backflip. This was just perfect now he would have to get through an afternoon of training while his mind was stuck on the redhead he was saying goodbye to. His first session in CLASS had lasted quite a while, and he still had to file his paperwork if he wanted to go back to college. He was going to have a busy day, but he promised himself he would make time to call her.
"Sounds good. Not sure what time I'll be done but I'll hit you up. You free tomorrow morning? I'd be happy to come back and hang out with ya while you did your dream walker thing?" He blurted out.
There he went speaking from the heart without thinking. He had gotten up early today by luck. He was trying to get work at Inferno? Go to school, and keep up with his Haven duties. Late nights and early mornings didn't mix, but she seemed worth it.

. -"They didn't hurt'cha did they?"
She had a ting of southern in her accent sometimes when she spoke. Max hadn't noticed it before. He found it cute and found himself wanting to know more about the girl.
"Hurt me? Nah I disabled the lackies and had a chat with the frontman. I convinced him it was in his best interest to move along." Max explained.
It wasn't a lie, that was basically what happened. Max felt a small stab of guilt. There was no need to go into the details, he had handles the situation. He was pretty sure those guys wouldn't be back to bother them.
She took his picture which he didn't mind. He knew he probably looked a mess but couldn't muster up much concern as he laid there contently on his jacket. He felt a sense of peace that he'd been missing ever sense he came back from the dead.
He felt a buzzing in his pack and pulled out his phone. The screen came to life and he saw his notifications.
"Crap." He said.
He had a meeting at Haven headquarters at 3. He was supposed to meet with some Haven members in CLASS for some training. It was only one now but he didn't want to leave the comfort of the beach.
"Hey. I have a meeting at three for work at Haven. My apartment is right above the place. I got to go get ready but you could come along and hang out till I had to leave. Know it seems kinda sudden but I'd really like a chance to talk and get to know you." He explained.
There was no harm in bringing her to his place. It was a better solution than bailing now and hoping to get her number. He was allowed to have guests at his home as long as he brought them through the office lobby and straight to his apartment. He suppressed a grin as he imagined the knowing looks he would be getting later from the desk rep and maybe Devon if he was informed.
"What the hell. I deserve some down time before training." He thought to himself.
He raised an eyebrow at Kendra and shot his best smile her way.

She hugged him and Max had the weirdest sensation run down his spine. This was literally the first time he was seeing her in person. She was pressed up against him her arms around his neck.
"You had me so worried."
He would have responded with some clever remark. Made a joke about the situation but she leaned in an kissed him. He felt her mouth on his and his brain suddenly realized that coming up with clever retorts was perhaps not the most pressing thing. Her arms tightened around him and his hands rose up and he held her in return.
She pulled away and sat and he did the same, mechanically. Her head was titled away from him and he couldn't see her face. His brain was still trying to process what had happened while his eyes decided they knew exactly where they wanted to look. He heard her apologize as she moved her hair out of her face and his insides did a little flip.
Max had kissed girls before, that wasn't new, but having a bombshell redhead plant one on you while your adrenaline was pumping a few moments ago made a guys mind wander. He grinned over at her.
"Don't apologize. You're full of surprises. First you take on that asshole with an knife and then that. A girl after my own heart." He said with a laugh.
He didn't want her to be self conscious about it, hell of other were up to him he'd grab her right there and kiss her again, but he didn't wanna push his limits. He put his arm around her and attempted to lie back to look up at the sky.
"Did you run all the way here? We're you that worried about little old me?"

- "I used to dance a lot... did street dancin', before I moved into the Mansion. I've got a lot of music. We can share."
Max grinned broadly. Talking to a fellow dancer always made him happy. The experience of dancing was something many people have tried and seen but not truly given themselves to. To allow yourself to give into the music, to let the tempo and melody dictate your movement and touch you. It was pretty intense.
"Street dancer huh?" Max began, "What we're you into hip hop? Tutting? Swing?"
He felt a rush of excitement. Xmen? He knew very little. Suddenly returning from the dead? Totally out of his wheelhouse. But dance? That he knew. He stood from the table and looked out the glass doors onto the patio outside.
"What do you say we take this outside and have some fun? I haven't gotten to dance with someone in ages." Max asked.

As Max sat there he felt the guilt hit him. Even though he had no intention of following through with his threats to the men it was so unlike him to do what he did. He could still see the look of fear in the man's eyes as the waves hit him. He wanted to justify his actions, he was defending himself, and it had felt good.
"Yeah most bad things feel great at the time." He scolded himself.
He wasn't sure what had happened back there. When the fight started it was like something in Max cranked his fight or flight instincts to 11. He'd been in fights before but he hadn't enjoyed them, not like he had enjoyed that. He needed to get a grip. He couldn't let that little beast out of its box again.
-Max
He turned at the sound of his name and couldn't belive his eyes. Kendra was walking towards him, in the flesh. She was breathing heavy from running and as she approached Max could see that she was still wearing the pajamas he had drenched with water.
With great effort Max forced himself to look up at her face. She must have been worried when she woke up and rushed over to check on him. With a smile he patted the sand beside him.

Two grand in one night, heck of a day. Max grinned as he sat at the food court. His tray was placed in front if him, the general Tso chicken and noodles smelling like heaven. He dug in eagerly. The night before he had gone to a club that was hosting a talent contest to drum up business. Max had entered, forking out 100 bucks and at the end of the night had been given first place awarding him $2000. It wasn't a fortune but considering Max had just moved into his new apartment and up until last night he had been pretty low funds wise it came as a pleasant surprise.
Since returning from the dead Max had about four sets of clothes in his closet, which meant everyday was pretty much laundry day for him. He had decided to spend his winnings on some clothes for himself, and some high dollar headphones for his music. Before he went shopping though his body had greedily demanded food.
He finished his meal and leaned back in his chair watching people as they walked. Happy couples chatting, families out and about running errands. It made Max smile to see. The mall for all its faults was somewhere abundantly full of life, Max enjoyed the feeling of being surrounded by people.
He rose and got a coffee from the cafe in the food court and began walking to check out shops. Max seemed to have a tendency to run into strange situations while doing seeming simple things, and he couldn't help but wonder what kind of adventure he would find himself in today.

He was surrounded. The two men in front of him had gotten to their feet and the leader was scrambling up behind man from Kendra tripping him. Max felt a hand on his shoulder and Kendra's warm breath in his ear.
-"Don't hurt them."
Seriously? Max didn't consider himself a violent person but these guys seemed like they deserved a pounding. He gritted his teeth, he didn't want to piss Kendra off but not laying these guys out made things more complicated.
-"whose there?"
The baboon pulled out a knife and Max felt Kendra's disappear from beside him. He expected she was going to disarm the man but when he lunged at Max nothing stopped him. Max dodged a series of slashes as he side stepped to avoid being cornered. His step took him towards the ocean but he didn't have time to look out at the waves.
His attention was on the knife man, and so when his companion threw a punch at Max he didn't see it till it connected with his face. He stumbled backward and back peddled keeping some distance between him and the three men.
Where had Kendra gone? She had been more than happy to have his back a moment ago. Max had the sinking realization that maybe she wasn't there anymore. It was probably afternoon by now and the girl probably didn't sleep all day. He was on his own.
"Hold up." Max called.
The men looked at him in surprise. He removed his hoodie and shirt in two quick motions.
"They're new. Don't wanna get your blood on them and ruin them." Max boasted.
He wouldn't injure them, but that meant he would have to make them run away. An idea formed in his mind but once he tried it he would be on a pretty tight clock if he wanted to succeed. He reached into his pack and pulled out one of his steel yo yos. He held it in his left hand and pulled out a length of wire with his right
If they were smart they would spread out and hit him all at once. Luckily they werent. The knife man charged first. Max dodged a thrust and wrapped the wire around the man's forearm. Max ducked under his arm and turned so he was behind the man's back, pulling the wire and bringing the man's arm back with him.
He kicked him in the knee and as he did threw a layer of double gravity on the man. He fell into the sand and Max wrapped his other arm in the wire, tying his hands together as he counted the seconds in his head.
5,6,7...
The next man rushed Max and tried to punch him. Max braved himself and let the punch connect. As the fist hit his face he threw a matching field of gravity on his assailant. The man stumbled, suddenly finding his entire body twice as heavy and Max threw the wire around his wrist and pulled it down to his ankle where he tied it off.
45,46,47...
The pair struggled against their own weight and the binding on them, but neither could get leverage enough to stand. The leader was on Max now and tackled him. They tumbled over his companions and to the edge of the ocean. The man landed on top of Max and pulled his fist back.
Max grabbed the man's shirt and made him weightless. He lifted him up and off of him and the man cried out in surpise as he found himself stuck. Max twisted as he stood and repeated his double Gs trick as he slammed the man into the surf.
110, 111, 112
Max stood there as the leader struggled to get up. A wave came in and crashed over the man and he sputtered as seawater entered his mouth. He tried to gwt up but Max lightly kicked him in the chest and he fell just in time for another hit of the tide.
"I should just stand here and let your friends watch you drown." Max said cooly.
He wouldn't do it, he couldn't do that, but these guys didn't know that. Max needed to scare them, intimidate them and this was the way. He channeled his best Liam Neason and continued.
130,131,132
"You don't attack people cause they are different. Don't you think that deserves punishment." He said.
Another wave hit the man and he struggled and spit water out again.
"Stop!" One of the friends behind him called.
Max ignored him. He reached down and took the man's wallet. With a flick of his wrist he opened it and took out the man's licence.
"Please." The man cried out as another wave hit him. He got his head above the water this time.
160,161,162....
"Zach Williams," Max read of the license, "I know your name and where you live. If you tell anyone about me, if anyone comes after me, I'll be coming for you." He threatened.
176,177,178....
Max's three minutes were up. He snapped his fingers for dramatic effect as he felt his gravity fields collapse, freeing the men. Using his power in bursts was fine, but continous use for three minutes required a one minute cool down time before he could use his power again. Max had put everything into this bluff, if they didn't back off he had nothing to throw at them.
The leader scrambled to his hands and knees and crawled away from Max. He stood and ran over to his friends as they untangle themselves. The three men looked at Max in horror.
"Sorry....sorry man. No problem, no problem." The knife man said, stashing his blade.
"We won't tell anyone...nobody." The other added.
They tossed Max's yoy into the sand and fled. Max let out a sigh of relief. That was a close one. He collected bis yo-yo and flopped onto his hoodie, using it as a makeshift blanket. He spread his arms out on and felt the warm sun on his bare chest.
He wondered where Kendra was. If she had woken up would she remember her dreamwalking? Or was it more like a normal dream where she would only have the foggy memory of her time with Max. He liked her, she was fun. He hadn't even gotten her number.
"All I wanted to do was build a sandcastle. Typical." He mumbled aloud as he shut his eyes and let the warm sun shine down.

As Max ran he saw the man take a step back in surprise. His phone was ripped out of his hand and Max grinned as he saw it fly out towards the water. The Jerk's shirt went over his head and Max laughed.
Kendra was no damsel in distress that was for sure. In her dreamwalking state she could move fast as thought of she had explained it to Max right, and it had let her get the guy before Max could clear the distance.
The lead douche tried to sit up and stared at Max in shock. Without being able to see Kendra they only had Max to blame for what had just happened. Which was fine with him. He had a guardian angel on his side, he could fight without worry about someone having his back.
The downside was he couldn't see her, so he needed to be careful where he struck. She had just shoved the leader so he assumed she was in front of him, so instead of heading straight for him Max lowered gravity on himself and vaulted over the guy.
He landed between the two lackies and reasserted gravity on himself. His hand smacked into the sand and he swept his legs up into a spinning split kick that knocked both men the the stomach and threw them back. Max had a dancers flexibility and agility and he knew how to use it.
He sprang to his feet as the pair recovered and grinned.

When he heard her laugh he knew he was in trouble. His stomach did a little flip and he felt his face redden. Kendra had seemed surprised by his power but once her feet left the ground Max could tell even without seeing her that she was having a blast. As they floated around he looked at the choppy water and caught a glimpse of the girls reflection as they flew. She was smiling.
This was exactly what Max wanted to be able to do. His gifts should be used to make people happy, to bring them joy. One day he was going to become famous. A performer known around the world, and when he did he would expose himself as a mutant and show everyone that his kind deserved respect.
-"take me somewhere "
He heard her request and grinned.
"Sorry but I have a time limit. I get three minutes of continous use before I have to set back down." He explained.
She told him about the boat and Max whipped his head around to see. Sure enough the vessel was on the horizon. Max couldn't see anyone on the deck and they were far enough away he wasn't too worried but he decided it be best to return to shore.
Helena reverse his pull of gravity and they floated back towards the sand castle. As they approached he saw three people standing on the shore nearby. His heart sank.
He reached the beach and lowered himself to the ground as he heard the sound of a camera. Of the three men standing before him one stood in the middle with his phone out pointed at Max.
"Hey freak, what do you think your doing?" He asked with a sneer.
"You got some balls to show your face in public." The one to his left jabbed.
They were all wearing board shorts and wife beaters like some kind of Jersey Shore rejects. They reminded Max of his hometown. He'd met a million jocks just like these guys, and for most of his life was pushed around by them.
Something primal rose up in Max. He felt a surge of anger unlike anything he had felt before. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears. He wasn't Max Rosewood, the choir nerd mutant that got shoved in lockers cause he was too afraid of getting in trouble for using his gift. He was Max Rosewood, Member of Haven. He was going to change the world and no bigoted frat boys could hurt him.
"Do yourself a favor. Delete the photo and walk away." He said. His voice was low and calm, scary calm.
He looked into the water for Kendra.
"Just stay behind me." He whispered.
"Oh big man talking." The leader said, " I don't think so. How about I show this to everyone so they can see the freak for what he is."

Max felt Kendra's hand slide into his own. He could feel her pulse through their linked fingers. Suddenly he found himself feeling embarrased and nervous. Kendra seemed so interesting, she literally had the power to walk through different realms of reality. Max made crap float, somehow it didn't seem like it could compare.
As he held her hand he sent his power out over himself. Max extended a field of augmented gravity over Kendra. He felt his power slide over her and encase her like a layer of plastic wrap. He gave a quick look up and down the beach and saw no one. He allowed himself to float up, taking Kendra with him. He brought them a few inches over the surface of the water and shifted the gravity around them ever so slightly.
They floated out farther over the water. Max keeping them at level with the waves to they splashed his feet. Kendra would be safe, and of anyone took notice Max would just take off and fly away with her to safety.
"I can mess with gravity. Change the pull and push of it or negate it all together. Anything I touch can be effected too. What do you think?" He asked nervously.

Devon explained the Havens and Max kept waiting for the "but" in the situation. The organization sounded like a true humanitarian act, which made Max happy. He wanted to believe it was true. Most wealthy people didn't invest their money in helping others. If Devon really did run the organization he said he did he was a hell of a guy.
"No problem. My mom was a lawyer at a marketing firm. I spent a lot of time at her office hearing people work on their ads, it got stuck in my head even." Max said
Devon made a rather intriguing intellectual argument concerning Max's ability. Devon made his power sound impressive, powerful even. He had never thought of his power like that. It had always been just a part of Max.
"I don't know about the hot new song," He said with a chuckle, "I'd take Sinatra over t-swift anyday. As for metaphysics I get what your saying. The world's a beautiful place in all its complexity if you take the time to look for the notes that form the chordes."
Max was surprised by his own answer. It seemed unlike him to muse over the state of reality. Devon took out his phone and asked for Max's number. Max gave him his new cell number and smiled.
"Gravity and Weather control? Let's just make sure we find a safe place to cut loose if we decide to push those limits." He said

Max nodded his head as she explained her power. It was unlike any mutation he has ever heard of but it sounded remarkable. For a moment he felt sorry for Kendra though, it would have to be pretty lonely falling asleep and basically being a spirit in the world. She could see everyone living and moving about but couldn't directly interact without freaking people out.
-"Yeah. Whatever I fall asleep with comes with me in my dreams. Clothes, camera.... I'd show you some of my pictures, but...."
- ".... I don't think you can see invisible cameras."
She popped into existence around him. Max could only keep up by listening to where her voice came from. Very cool. Something clicked as she spoke.
"You said you live in a mansion? You talking about the Xavier school?" He asked, "That place is nice. I actually lived there myself till a few days ago."
-"Not only was I in your castle, I helped you build it I've been here all morning"
Max grinned. He saw the ripple in the air where Kendra was standing ripple and checked her reflection. She was standing with her arms crossed and after a moment Max realized the reason and felt his face turn scarlet. What a day he was having.
"Right, we'll I got to say we made a pretty good team. Real piece of art over there " He smiled pointing at the castle.
He looked up and down the beach to ensure they were not attracting any attention and took a step towards Kendra.
"You know, I'm like you." He said, "Give me your hand and I'll show you something cool."
He extended his hand and pulled his power into it. He waited for Kendra to take his hand. When she did he would spread his power out and negate gravity around her. She would find herself floating in zero gravity. He didn't know if that was normal in her dreamwalking but he figured it was the easiest way to show her what he could do.

-"What the heck?"
The water made contact and Max saw the water droplets suspend in the air forming the rough outline of a person before dripping off. He had caught her alright, sure enough the girl in the reflection was truly standing there.
-"Who are you?" Max started to laugh only to feel the pail be ripped from his hand and SPLAT. He received a face full of sandy muck. He was startled for a moment before he felt a warm hand wipe the muck from his face.
-"You...you can see me?"
Max looked at where the girls form had been a moment before. Where his pail had been suspended in air a moment before. He looked back into the water and observed the glowing reflection of the girl. She was pretty, flowing hair and a look of sincere curiosity on her face. Max hadn't taken a moment to take her in when he thought he was imagining her, but now seeing her standing there in her pajamas which he had thrown water over he knew she was real. She was holding a camera, he hadn't noticed that before.
"I can't see you, I can see your reflection." He said, pointing at the water.
His brain started running a mile a minute as he spoke.
"So invisibility? That's amazing. How do keep your clothes and stuff invisible? You can take pictures while it's happening? You would think light would reflect in the lense. Can you make yourself visible." He rambled.
He shut up for a moment and picked up his pail, grinning as he looked from the reflection of the girl to where he knew she was.
"Kendra right? I'm Max. Sorry about the water thing but for a moment you had me thinking I was going crazy. We're you in my castle with me too?" He asked.

He found....nothing. it was no real surprise. Max let out a small laugh. He was becoming paranoid. He had come here to relax not suffer a breakdown. It was too nice a day for that. He had a new apartment to enjoy, and if the reps at Haven were correct he would have some event work he could help with. Now was a time to be happy. He started to sit down when he heard a crunching noise off to the side.
He looked down and saw the words scribbled into the sand. Kendra? Who was Kendra? He knew that the words hadn't been there a moment ago. He was about to start worrying again when he noticed the footprints. There had been decent traffic across the beach a bit ago but it was mostly empty now. These footprints went to the water and stopped, not returning or heading down the beach eother way.
"Ghosts don't leave footprints, but mutants do." He said quietly to himself.
He picked up his pale and began walking towards the ocean, whistling as he did. When he reached the water he was shocked to see the image of a girl in her pajamas standing in the water reflecting back at him. She seemed lost in thought and unaware that Max could see her.
He dropped to his knees and filled up the pail in the water that reflected the girls image. He kept his eyes locked on the reflection, gauging the distance, and tossed the contents of the pail at where the girl should be. He might be going crazy, or he might just be onto something.

Max sat chewing, enjoying the crashing of the tide and the sun in the sky. He was starting something new, his life was taking a different direction and he was ready for it. He was about to take a bite of a chip when he heard someone sneeze directly behind him.
"Bless you." He replied instinctively.
When he looked however he saw no one behind him. He frowned. The castle was too small to hide in, and he was sure the sound had come from directly behind him.
Max wasn't superstitious, or at least he didn't consider himself superstitious, but ever since he himself had come back from the dead he respected that perhaps he didn't know everything there was to know about the world around him.
"Hello?" He said quietly, extending a hand deepening into the castle.
