The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The Dinosaur hadn't killed the woman, in fact the wounds seemed quite precise and non lethal. It told Max that his scaled ally had at least a semblance of intellect while in this form. That was a reassuring idea considering if the Dinosaur turned on him he would be able to do little more but lay there as the creature tore him apart.
The Dinosaur let out another cry and Max sidestepped to let her go for Tentacle brains. This was the safest strategy, keep the others off of his companion as she took them down. The woman didn't seem like she was getting up and the man was still pinned by Max's power. It would only last a few minutes but in a fight that was ages. That only left.
Something slammed into Max with the force of a locomotive and he fell to the sidewalk. He looked up in surprise to see the last man standing with his arm extended towards Max. Max's brain kicked into overdrive as he tried to rise, and found himself bound by chains.
The man smirked at Max in amusement ad the dancer fought against the bindings, but it was no use he couldn't move at all. He tilted his head and saw the sword armed man stilled pinned to the wall, and he was covered in chains too. He saw the chains binding the man and a leash was around his neck, the collar looked like it was made of some kind of metal and it bit into the mans neck. He could see the mans face but above that he saw the phantom face of the man screaming. The leash led back to the man who now had his hand extended towards Max and he saw two more lines coming off of him, one to the woman on the ground and the other to the tentacled man. In that moment two thoughts came to Max. One this was a psychic attack, and two the man standing before him was the real leader of this group. Not leader either, captor.
He saw a fresh line appear in the man's hand and it began to float towards Max. The collar opened and soared towards Max's neck. He struggled and fought as it closed around him and he felt a sudden rush of pain and nothingness. He heard a voice in his head, calling for him to submit, to obey.
Max rallied his mental defenses. An exercise he had done in Haven for training gear against mental assaults. He imagined a bubble around him and filled it with his mental focus, trying to cut off the attacker. He felt the pain lessen but it didn't stop. He laid prone facing the man trying to resist.

As Derek explained his capabilities Max suddenly imagined the image of the man standing before an army of beasts and commanding them to attack. The mutant power wasn't one that could be adapted to any situation, but in the right circumstances could be beyond useful.
"That seems right handy. How much influence can you have? Could you organize the furry folk? Maybe get a network together?" He asked curiosity.
Nobody paid attention to tiny animals. Hell if the guy could talk to rats Max might have just stumbled into a spy master for Haven. He gave his head a shake and dismissed the thought for now as Derek exclaimed how cool Max's power was.
"Absolutly. So what drew you to Haven? When did you join up?" He asked.
He had to be careful. If Derek was only part of the front membership for Haven Max couldn't share any of the deeper truths concerning the organization. If Derek had signed on fully however, Max found himself with a wonderful opportunity to meet a new recruit.

Max wanted nothing more than to kiss her again. Somewhere deep down he knew that was his hormones talking, but to his conscious mind all he could feel was the primal need to feel her lips in his once again. She responded to him and titled her head towards the pond. He looked and grinned.
The transformation of the plants had happened while he was distracted. He had not seen Janelle's power in action before and as he looked at the now larger and purple Lotus flowers he felt a smile spread across his face. Her power was spectacular. She helped create, and breathed life into things. The Lotus flowers she had effected looked beyond healthy and the glow they put off complimented their companions. It was stunning.
-"I hope they don't mind."
"Amazing, you are amazing" He said and let out a little chuckle, "I doubt they will mind. The doctor will probably be tripping all over himself trying to figure out how to replicate what you did."
An idea snuck into Max's mind and he took a step towards the pond. He separated from Janelle but let his arm slide up her back and reached for her hand.
"My turn." He said.
He placed his foot on the surface of the water and began to focus. He could have instantly nullified gravity, but that wasn't the effect he was going for. Instead he threw his power over him and began to lower gravity, a controlled and measured use of his power. He pressed with his foot onto the surface and felt the tension. It took him maybe ten seconds to find the balance he was looking for. To bring gravity to almost nothing but still keep it present.
He stepped out in earnest and his foot rested on the surface of the water. He took a second step and was standing on top of the pool. He looked at Janelle and grinned.
"Care for a stroll?" He asked standing impossibly on the water.

"That is if I get in."
Max gave a shrug at the word.
"If you get in you get in. If not life has a different path for ya. I was supposed to be going to Law school last year. Turns out that wasn't meant for me. World's a funny place man." Max replied.
Derek took his mother Goose joke in stride and Max found himself liking the guy. It was hard not to get along with him, he was pretty agreeable. Max could see him working well with the community as a member of Haven. If the guy had what it takes to do the harsher stuff all the better. His mutation made Max give a curious look.
"So like actually talk to animals? Wild Thornberry style?" He said smirking, "I gotta know what animal is the best conversationalist?"
He watched the geese consume the last of the bread. They looked full and happy.
"I manipulate gravity. I'd give you a practical demonstration but it's a little public out here." He said with a small shake of his head.

She analyzed the map quickly and stowed a glove in her belt. She wanted to be ready in case things got dicey. It was smart and it told Max she knew what she was doing. He took a measured step and entered the maze.
Dancing taught you a lot of good things for sneaking around. It tonight you how to be light on your feet, how to move with another person without exchanging words. Max took slow measured steps down the hallway, sticking close to the wall and came to the first fork. His hand rested on the pistol that he held up and ready. His other hand went to his fanny pack and he produced a small compact mirror from it.
The mirror went out past the edge of the corner and Max saw nothing but empty hallway. He revered it and saw the same. With a quick gesture he closed the mirror and moved forward, taking the left turn.
It was when he made it to the next corner and used the mirror again that he saw trouble. Two of the stormtroopers were walking down it heading straight for them. Max clasped the mirror shut and looked back. They couldn't make it back to the corner before the troopers arrived.
He shot Sveta a glance and held out his hand with the mirror in it. He pointed a finger up and looked to see the ceiling above them, and then extended his fingers for her to take his hand.

She responded to him in a low voice and in the dim light he could see her looking up at him. Her words were enough to send a surge of electricity through him and he pulled her closer and brought his lips down to meet hers. It was the only appropriate response he could think of.
He started out softly and built. Forcing himself to be gentle. His other hand moved to her back resting low just above what he felt to be her skirt line. For a moment he allowed himself to just enjoy the peaceful bliss of kissing someone. The tense connection of two people. Then he pulled away, still holding her.
"So is this going well?" He said a stupid smile plastered on his face, " I can't really tell.

heck even the stratosphere like it sounds like you can
Max gave Devon a shy smile. The guy talked about his abilities like they were so impressive. Max could see that he was impressed. It was alien to the dancer. He had become accustomed to people finding his power strange, or else thinking him a freak. Devon seemed sincerely interested. Given that the guy could manipulate the literal air itself Max found it strange.
"Flying dangerous. Took me years and more broken bones than I'd like to be able to do what I can. It's not flying, it's falling with style." He said with a chuckle.
Devin continued his analysis of his own ability. Max was impressed by it. He could do amazing things, but he also understood his own limits. That was a rare find in mutants. Give a man a little power and they think they can move mountains. Devon sounded dare he say it humble.
Frankly, I’m impressed of what limits you know.”
Max considered the statement.
"Usually for floating I just negate gravity. Ice done some momentum tricks but it's difficult. I can almost wholly negate impact by reversing gravity against my own momentum but it puts a hell of a strain on my body." He mused. It be worth looking into.
Devon spoke again and Max flushed. Devin seemed genuine. He wanted to work with Max. He found Max capable and strong. It was refreshing. Before Max could respond however Devon took off and leapt off the cliff once again.
There would be time for talk later. Time for planning and preparing. For now Max would enjoy good company and the ocean before him. Whatever would come later he would deal with then.

If you've never seen a Dinosaur leap across a sidewalk and attack someone you can't really have an appreciation for the sight. The frozen moment of surprise as they all looked at what the girl had become bought Max the precious seconds he needed. He flipped the wrist on his left hand and the yoyo he had wrapped around the women's leg rolled up it'd wire and into his palm. He had one of the disks in each hand as his newly scaled partner jumped the woman.
Dinosaur or not she needed him to cover her. He didn't want to think about what she was doing to the woman. What those claws were doing. Instead he placed himself between his ally and the man with the sword arm. He kept tentacle brains I'm his peripheral vision
The man charged and Max sidestepped the blade. His enemy had reach over him and though Max moved with grace he was on the losing side of this. He stashed one of the yo-yos in his fanny pack and brought the other out, swinging it around by a length of wire. He uses it as a bludgeoning weapon swinging it at the man. He raised his shield and deflected it.
Tentacle brain moved to aid the woman and Max reached into his pack and pulled out a roll of quarters. The young dancer dropped under a sword strike and smacked the roll against the sidewalk. He sent a surge of power with it and the coins burst out towards the tentacle man.
His Aura saved him. The tentacles squirmed up and formed a barrier that the coins smacked into with a wet impact and stuck. They flipped back out and Max saw the coins fly towards his ally. Max dropped his power over the coins and they fell short but he hadn't deterred the foe.
His focus on the man nearly coat him his life. The blade flew at him and the sword cut into his side. He had just enough sense to move with the strike and the cut wasn't too deep. It would slow him down however. He needed to take one of them out.
He rushed the swordsman. Taking the man by surprise. He raised his shield, expecting a trick like Max had used with the coins. Instead Max vaulted up and painted both feet on the shield. He sent his power out over the shield and the man and kicked off hard sending himself towards the tentacle man. The sword armed mutant let out a cry of surprise as Max's augmented gravity pulled him into the wall of the nearest building and pinned him there.
Max landed between the Dinosaur and tentacle brain and gave him a fierce smile.

He swallowed down the Asprin and leaned forward willing the world to stop spinning. Quin insisted he not nap, and Noel joined in. Somewhere in his head Max knew they were right but he longed for sleep in a primal and furious way. He had over done it, and he hadn't slept the night before. He was tired, tired and sore all over.
Quin formed a plan to stop on a few minutes once they were sure they weren't being pursued. It was a good plan and given the fact that Max didn't have a better alternative he silently agreed. The women discussed the attack as Max rested.
"I mean, besides the blow under the seats
"Haha. Very funny." Max said opening his eyes and looking at Noel.
Her face had no humor in it.
He reached under the seat, fighting a wave of nausea as he did and felt his hand grip something plastic. There was the tearing sound of duct tape and he pulled out a bag of what looked like sugar. Horror and surprise ran through him. He turned to Quin and dropped the bag I'm the floor boards.
"It's not mine. I don't know how..." He began in terror.
Then the memory hit him like a wave.
The rental place had been on a sketchy part of town. Max had been the only customer when he arrived. The lot had been filled with almost identical looking SUVS.
The guy behind the counter had helped him and then placed keys on the counter. It was then that a group of for lack of a better turn gangsters had walked in and talked to the guy. They had provided no information as Max had and a second set of keys were placed beside the first. The counter worker had told Max he was good to go and taken the thugs into the back.
Max had grabbed his keys, we'll he thought they were his and gone out to see what SUV they unlocked.
Crap.
He filled Noel and Quin in on the details in his groggy state.
"I had a coupon. I didn't know it was a cover for a drug op." He said desperatly.

Maxwell should have felt remorse for hitting the girl. He should have stopped right there and let go of his fury. But something inside him had snapped. Instead he saw the girl take the hit and drop his phone and he dove for it in a frenzy.
He caught it before it hit the ground and hit the hang up button. He didn't want to know who had picked up the line. What had become of the number he had dialed so often in his youth.
He looked back up at the girl as she floated above him and scowled. His anger still pulsing in his ears in a constant thumping of his heart.
"Get out of here." He said in suppressed fury.
He jabbed a finger at the bay doors that lead put of the garage and to the streets above. He did not want Jorge finding out some girl had snuck into the back rooms of the club.

Max nodded his head at Derek's words. A small curiosity nagged at him. Animal studies was linked to his ability?
"Awesome NYU is a good school. I'm hoping to go there myself in the fall. Though I won't be living in the Co Op. What's your mutation Mother Goose?" He asked with a grin.
Oh the age old question had been asked. It was the one Max heard most often when he informed people he was a dancer. He had gotten used to it by now.
"The kind that keeps his shirt on." He said with a chuckle, " though there is good money to be made in the alternative."
So Devon had already spoken with the guy. That made sense, Devon had a feverish desire to see Haven succeed and had the charismatic personality to make it happen. He hadn't met Artair yet, but he had heard good things.
"The club is on the ground floor of the Haven complex. I live on one of the upper floors. If you like your session and decide to stick around we could get some training in together. I'm always down for partner work." He said.
From the guys statements it seemed he wasn't exactly keyed in on the true nature of Haven. Behind all the fancy digs and parties there was a deeper darker nature. The organization did good things, sometimes it meant they had to do bad things to get it done.

"Absolutely gorgeous"
She pulled him closer to the pool of water and the horde of glowing lotus flowers. He watched her face intently as she looked at the flowers. He could see the joy on her face and he knew he had chosen well in bringing her here.
She commented on the flowers being happy and Max raised an eyebrow. He hadn't realized she had the ability to sense the feelings of plants. Suddenly he realized that bringing her here on a date had been a pretty big risk. What if the plants hadn't been happy? What if they were horrified Frankenstein's monster flowers?
She looked over at him and he looked at her in the dim light. She was stunning, the pale blue light reflecting off her red hair. Max took a step closer to her and he reached and arm around her back. As she thanked him.
"I'm glad you came." He said.
He felt a tension in the air and smiled shyly at her.
"I want to kiss you." He said simply, question in his voice.
Max walked down the empty sidewalk in the slowly fading sunlight. Beside him rose a chain link fence. Inside a little league baseball game was happening. The bleachers were occupied by scattered groups of adults. A boy walked up to the plate, a too large helmet on his head. Max grinned to himself at the image.
Max carried a paper bag in each arm, groceries for the week. He saw the boy swing at a pitch and the Crack of a bat sounded through the evening air. The ball rose up into the sky before plummeting down and smashing through a car window near Max. Max flinched at the noise and an apple fell out of his bag. He reached down for it.

Something bothered Max as hewalked down the empty sidewalk in the slowly fading sunlight. He felt like something was wrong, but couldn't figure out what. Beside him rose a chain link fence. Inside a little league baseball game was happening. The bleachers were occupied by scattered groups of adults. A boy walked up to the plate, a too large helmet on his head. Max frowned to himself at the image.
Max carried a paper bag in each arm, groceries for the week. He saw the boy swing at a pitch, but before the hit occurred Max knew what would happen next. He dropped the bags of groceries as the ball smashed through a car window near Max. Max flinched at the noise and an insticnt to run pulsed through him. He reached for his power and flew into the air.
He was passing the third floor of the apartment building across the street when he felt a resistance forming around him. For a moment he felt like he was trying to move through jello but he fought against the force and pulled himself up. The resistance faded and Max landed on the buildings roof looking down. Something was very wrong.
He saw the boy, the same boy walking up to the plate. He swung at the ball and Max watched as it flew out and smashed the window again. There was a shimmering in the air around the field, like heat waves off of asphalt on a hot day and the scene reset itself. Max watched the looping moment three more times staring in confusion.
Then he pulled out his phone and made a call. He'd heard rumors about strange occurances in the city. Clocks stopping and then starting randomly, people having major bouts of Deja Vu. Forty people won the lottery that week, all in New York, all saying they felt like they just knew what numbers to pick. Something was up and he needed Havens support on this one.

Max leaned his head against the headrest of the passengers seat with his eyes shut. He heard Noel and Quin talking but they sounded wrong. When had they entered a tunnel? And why was he at one end and they were so far away. His head pounded furiously and his muscles twitched every few seconds. He felt like he'd just run a marathon while bench pressing a cow the whole way. He heard his name and felt a familiar weight press on him followed by the clicking of a seat belt.
He opened his eyes. The sunlight made them hurt. Head injuries were a pain like that. He felt something wet press into his hand and looked over to see Noel.
"I've got napkins. I've got water."
He pressed the napkin to his head. It was tender and pain seared through the spot for a moment before the cool water began to calm it. He gave Noel a thumbs up.
"I am largest amount." He said drunkenly.
Okay maybe he was still a little loopy. He reached down and pulled on the belt of his fanny pack, twisting it so it rested on his left hip. He fumbled for the zipper and after the third failed attempt simply began tapping it.
"Asprin." He mumbled hoping she would get the cue.
He reached experimentally for his power, and in response a wave of nausea ran through him. He would have to take it easy for a bit. He leaned back further in his chair fighting the desire to sleep. He knew sleep was bad after a head injury.

They touched down on the top of the cliffs once again and Max felt a rush of pride at Devons praise. He considered Devons question for a moment.
"No idea really. I can double gravity and point it upward so I'd have some speed. I can only keep my power going for three minutes at a time so high enough to make the cold and lack of oxygen am issue I'd say. Haven't really tried going too far up." He said.
He looked out over the beach and smiled.
"I have to be careful. Terminak velocity for a human falling is 122 miles per hour. I can go double that. I'm only human though, so I have to worry about things like wind burn and impact. Even just now I had to adjust gravity to break our momentum when we got ready to land otherwise the impact would be the same as just falling." He explained.
He rolled his shoulder. He'd broken bones alot when he had first started training with his power. Now accounting for momentum was basically second nature, but he had taken the lumps getting to that point.
"What about your wind ability? You seem to be able to cushion a fall easily. Can you make a wind column underneath yourself to fly?"
