The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

[Curious, interested. Attention drawn away from book.] The echoes were catching up now and Evelyn registered some of the behavioral cues Greg was displaying. With a slight blink she looked up again, trying not to be distracted by the card on his head.
”I am less interested in the age based mutations, more the concept of a mutation that could cause de-aging. I seem to have found myself back as a Seven year old, and while I do appreciate the extra time I have to learn things and grow intellectually, there are some downsides to being less than four feet tall.” she admitted.
Evelyn had never heard of a universe that had private government institutions. Actually, her understandings of other universes was lacking in general. The echoes would have once considered such statements faulty, but she had seen things that defied science more than once in recent years.
”I guess it doesn’t matter much, even if this could be undone, I don’t think I would take the chance. Rather, I want to make a calculated course to acquire the most useful facts for my future self. Basic science, mathematics, it’s all just foundation for now.”

Evelyn wasn't fooled by Amelia, but she turned off the torch anyway. Spoil sport.. Lighting someone on fire would have been more fun than watching her attack herself with a needle. Although, that was strange to watch. The echoes did not enjoy this experiment. It really made no scientific sense. How could the fabric defend itself? How could it stop the needle?
"I guess we'll just have to wait until someone throws a knife at you to know for sure. Since you wouldn't let me light you on fire, I'm guessing you won't let me throw anything at you either." Evelyn tried not to look too disappointed, but it was a little annoying to be denied such obvious fun.
Looking back at the table, she yawned, feeling somewhat tired now. It was the second or third day since she had slept, and that honestly may be to blame for her willingness to throw things at people.
"Maybe fire would be a bad idea... she was adult enough to say that. She pulled up a chair and put her head on the table, fatigue fighting her. "I don't sleep a lot. When I fall asleep, I relive memories. I miss being able to dream." She looked a little less evil now, a little more young. Some days, she did want to be a normal kid who could play and just forget for awhile.

Since returning to the age of seven, Evelyn had found two things mildly annoying. One: the inability to sleep without reliving memories. And two: the lack of access to technology.
The first problem was something she had no solution ready for. From what she knew, these 'playbacks' started at a much later time during her first life. She had plenty of time to dream and be normal before her body started the endless loop of reprocessing information. This go around, she was already facing them. On the one hand, her perfect memory was storing information at an alarming rate, from books, to articles, and even blueprints when she could get her hands on them. The downside was replaying those projects at any given time. Biology of Mutations was a good read the first time, but after facing it three nights in a row, she was wishing she had chosen something less dense to let her brain chew on.
It was like eating toast without butter five times a day. She was burnt out.
The technology issue was a bit more complicated. Ion had offered help sometime, but that forced her to rely on him, much like she had to rely on CS for access to the Danger Room. Again, she wasn't exactly unhappy with it, but she missed the days she could do things on her won without everyone questioning how old she was.
Seven, as it turns out, was not a very big number in the eyes of the world, and she was increasingly jealous of other deaged mutants who had come back at more useful points in their lives.
With these thoughts in her mind, Evelyn had been surprised to hear Jude had come to visit. While the older mutant had probably intended just to locate her, she was one step ahead and quickly made her way to the living room, looking in the door at the gathered group sitting with the controllers.
"Don't let Eevee play. It's not fair. It's worse than going up against the computer!" one of the kids shouted, catching sight of her. Evelyn stuck out her tongue and walked over, standing next to Jude.
"Like I would want to play with you. You only know 3 moves. You're worse than predictable." She was trying not to give a bad impression with Jude here, but their remarks were annoying. Sam had tried to enforce the idea that playing was important, but one or two rounds of games with these kids had been a waste of her time.
Jude, at least, was still managing to kick their butts. That just proved how bad they were. He was only using three moves as well, but managing to rain electric bolts of lightning down on everyone. Characters flew off left and right like shooting stars.

Evelyn tried not to get overly excited when he brought the new ammeter over, but her eyes lit up anyway. Thank goodness this school had so much technology! Within the given time-frame, they hit twenty and Evelyn grinned.
"A solid result! Do you want to try the sand again? What level do you think we have to get you up to for it to work?"
Evelyn asked questions while the echoes tried to help answer them. Numbers were one thing though, his own personal control and intuition was more important. If he felt he could control and focus his powers in a particular direction to get the results then that was important. If he wanted to go for it, she would put a pair of the glasses back on and make sure she wasn't too close to the jar just in case. She wasn't going to miss things because of an accident.
The girl didn't have a lot of experience with her powers, which Evelyn thought was unfortunate. She considered the room for a moment then got a grin on her face and jumped down, going over toward one of the corners.
"You said last time you figured things out by saving someone from a car? That supports the theory that stress often triggers mutations. The best way to really test an ability is to just take a few risks. I think you are letting nerves get in the way here of finding out something for real."
Evelyn turned around, and was holding a butane torch. She clicked it on and a low flame spouted from the end. She had a calm expression, which probably didn't help. This was for science, there was nothing to be scared of.
"If you catch on fire, there is a doctor anyway. Let's see what happens!"
[Distraction, preoccupation. Absentminded.] Well, the echoes were getting more clues the longer they shared the room. They also seemed to note other...noises. She glanced around more than once but couldn't figure out what it was exactly she was hearing. Was that movement? Were there other things here? Or...She blinked, looking at the guy as he lifted the card like a hat and set it back down. Weird. She was gifted for seven, but she was also, frankly, still a small girl and bugs were gross. Even intelligent ones such as this.
"I'm Evelyn," she answered, then picked up the book and showed it to him. "Biology of mutations? It's a rather broad subject matter. Although some of it is relevant to what I was looking for." She offered it to him, the page on age related mutations still open.
"You can take borrow it if you want. I only need to look at it once to remember it." She picked up the next textbook and started flipping page by page, taking a hard look at each for a moment before turning to the next one, like taking mental snapshots for herself. It would be harder to remember the content without actually reading it, but she didn't want to devote too much time to information she wasn't sure she would use quite yet. This way, she would at least have the information buried in her head, and would just need to go back later for more dd
When you were in a seven-year-old body, doing anything without adult supervision could be a bit of a challenge.
The taxi from the mansion to the library was the first hurdle. Evelyn made the phone call to arrange a pick-up, and then had to talk her way through a lengthy discussion about leaving on her own without an adult. The taxi driver didn't want to get in trouble for some type of child abduction, but her own extensive knowledge and ability to speak beyond her age limit had silenced most arguments. Given she also had the forethought to arrange for a booster seat to prevent being denied transportation (despite how embarrassing it was to use), she finally won over and made the trip. Paying the fare with cash helped too.
Once at the library, she deposited the seat up front, and had to accomplish her next mission: ensure usage of her library card. There was some, discrepancy, with her age. In the end, she managed to convince staff the card was an older sisters and was given permission to use it. A few well placed sympathy moves let her go upstairs and research to her fancy. With that out of the way, she was set, and a broad building of knowledge was open to her.
Evelyn planned to make the most of things. The first few texts she gathered were obscure, things she would never find at the mansion. Some research on mutations, including a more broad biology text. She also collected general science texts on electricity, and cell growth and decay. These were all stacked neatly beside her.
The table was a bit high, so with a disgruntled sigh, she had even brought the booster seat upstairs to sit in. The things she did for knowledge! But she would never sit on a book despite how much easier it might have been. That was some type of madness she did not approve of.
Evelyn looked up, curios what could make the echoes behave this way. Her book was open to a general segment on age related mutations she had been distracted by, and she found herself face to face with, well, actually she wasn't entirely certain what it was. He? She? They? It? What pronoun did one use for a semi-insect like individual?
"Can I help you find anything?" Evelyn asked, making her presence known. She wasn't staff here, but in general, offering assistance broke the ice. Her silver eyes scanned to the book he was holding, to his face, and the echoes struggled to read behavior due to the usual nature of his body. Was he looking for something? He had a book already. She knew that much.
Evelyn kept shuffling notes around even as he was talking, making a tick here, a mark there, and finally nodding to herself. "It would make sense it starts low and would need to grow with time...both times we tested it we started at a base mark, we never tried to jump straight into a higher output. We ran on the assumption that your body couldn't store anything at all, but what if it's just...a leaky bucket? While we were filling it it's easy to keep topping off how much you have ready, but if you turn off the faucet, whooooosh, it's all gone."
She watched him run power through the machine, adding new graphs to a separate paper. She noted the time since last power usage, and the gradual increase of power. It was gaining strength at a steady rate, and she noted the first .2 amps, until it jumped and they had to cut the power. There was enough to work with though. She started scrawling calculations on paper. "We actually started at .002, which increased to .2 amps in 60 seconds. We maxed out at 110.96 seconds, giving us a rate of increase at roughly 0.0767528364331. If that continues, I expect we could hit 20 amps in 2 minutes. Beyond that, I guess it depends where we hit the ceiling of your powers." She concluded, setting down her pencil.
Her eyes gradually shifted from grey back to blue as the numbers and echoes grew quieter. "I'm assuming at a certain point the electricity would escape as well...But at least that wouldn't be long to reach the level needed to create things."
Welcome to the site! I have a handful of characters, I am not sure if any would be someone you would be hoping to thread with.
Tses is a mutant with the ability to explode things, walk through walls, and roams the city a lot. She is a member of the Syndicate, although she has been known to knock a bratty kid or two down a peg if they are sure of themselves.
Those two would be the most inclined to fight. Tses is affiliated while Blue just does whatever.
Evelyn is 7, she is insanely smart/has a perfect memory. She isn't out in the city as much. Malcolm generally fanboys over anyone, good or bad, and is human. Zaid is party bunny.
Evelyn had never heard of Warren Buffet, so it must have been someone that hadn't been mentioned when she lived at home. That was just one more thing to google when she could.
She also felt it would be easier to understand the concepts of stocks by reading from a more recent source. The internet seemed to offer that, based on her limited experience. Plus, if she was going to invest money, she needed to make sure she was picking the correct targets to make use of. Getting to be young again was a once in a lifetime event, she was pretty certain of that. She could not waste it. Her mind was already making a list of things to do and she hadn't even gotten her hands on a computer.
Evelyn beamed when he said using her powers wouldn't be bad. Even if it was, rules should change. Evelyn liked his thinking. Maybe that's why she liked being around him. It was rare for a mutant around here to be willing to challenge a system if they felt it was not the best one in place. Evelyn chose her own path, and not everyone respected the instinct to push things that she felt were unfair.
"It would be so much fun to visit the library anyway. So many books..." She got starry-eyed just considering it. That mindset carried her as they finished setting up for the next experiment.
This time, something was off though. Evelyn was fanning out her notes, grabbing books and flipping through it even while he was questioning what was occurring. "It's been almost 9 minutes and 29 seconds since we did the last experiment. We already established your body can't seem to hold a charge, maybe it dissipated while we prepared? We could go back to baseline, build back up, and see if that is the case?" She was skimming through charts and comparing them with the books, as if looking for something to support a running theory.
William had smart ideas. While Evelyn did have the echoes, she was surprised she had not come up with the thought of investing anything while she was younger. If she was 7, that was a lot of time she could move cash around and get her own wealth. "That isn't a bad idea...It wouldn't be horrible to look at stocks as well. The echoes might have a thing or two to help with that. Do you think it's cheating to use your mutation to get rich?" Not that she would stop herself from trying, but it felt good to at least know the morality of it. Computer predicted things all the time, right? Her powers were just a bit like a machine, considering what information was offered to it.
"It would be cool if you could help," she grinned when he mentioned assisting with her internet problem. "You aren't an adult exactly, but if they knew someone was with me so I didn't blow up the mansion, they may be more open to the idea of letting me use google." She had many things to ask google. The limited opportunity so far had been maddening.
Evelyn let her attention return to their project, and she came back with a glass jar that was almost too big for her to carry. She almost vanished behind it, but the echoes were great at letting her get around without being able to see well. Setting it on the floor, she waited until he returned and helped guide the sand inside. Together, they managed not to spill more than a few stray grains.
"This was in a storage room, it looks like it's thick glass so it should be good." She commented. She didn't wonder why there was a giant jar. Heck, half the stuff in the mansion made little to no sense sometimes. Kids practicing their mutations made strange things. If someone found out they could make jars, why not create extra ones for practice?
Evelyn wasn't sure what to make of the situation. It was spilled ink, it didn't feel like the most important thing in the world, but the echoes, and even her companion, seemed to think there was something relevant about it. This was a clue, a hint toward powers they had not tested yet. She had wanted to do something fun, but maybe testing the girl's clothing could be fun? She couldn't get away with shooting at her to see if it was bulletproof, but maybe there were other experiments.
Maybe it would be best if they weren't trying things on the clothing the girl was wearing though?
Or, should they?
[Fabric properties inconsistent with materials.] Not helpful."Do you want to test it more? Does it have to be something you're wearing? Has it happened with other fabrics?" Evelyn was growing more curious, and that made her want to experiment.

Evelyn has an uncanny skill at Inspiring further thinking. It was perhaps what made her seem so much like Sherlock Holmes, even more so than her actual powers. The right questions could generate deeper wondering, and this was something she had pride in. Hearing William consider something further was a positive thing. She had come to embrace her own change and was relieved she could assist him with the transition he faced.
”I would have a bit longer to wait to take advantage of some things. Like my apartment, which I have the deed for but does me no good right now. It’s cool that you are at least old enough a car could be useful! Although I do have credit cards. I don’t know how long those will last before someone wonders where the bill is coming from. My parents weren’t bright but they do catch on with time.” she admitted. At least knowing her parents would pay for it was better than stealing. She wasn’t quite so criminal yet.
”some of the other teens may be able to help more. I think word got out I shouldn’t be allowed on the Internet. Mirror must think I’ll buy something bad. I haven’t blown up the mansion yet!” the fact they were experimenting in the chem lab with high voltage electricity didn’t seem to phase her.
She listened as he explained the process, and agreed with his plans. ”I know where a better container is. Was there more sand where you found that from?” she was already guessing his thoughts by the way his eyes moved between objects. [Calculating, considering supplies. Eye movement suggestions planning next experiment. Number of notebook pages: 4. ] the echoes started counting beakers next. She tried to steer them away from sand at least.

Welcome Mara! While I don’t have any Haven characters (someone else may have a more qualified candidate to get Mara to the right place), if you want to get rolling you can always either start or respond to an open thread! Sometimes just letting your character hang out in the city is a great way to get a foot in the door, even if that initial thread doesn’t cement them down the road to a faction. (All my characters are Factionless currently, so sometimes they never settle down!)

Despite the slight shivering Evelyn took what Sam was saying very seriously. It was hard to stay still when her clothes still felt cold, but she wanted to be a good student. She didn’t want him to change his mind. Her eyes lit up when he said he’s keep reaching her, and she nodded quickly, trying to look serious, open minded!
Uh, fun would be more challenging, but she finally nodded to that too. ”Those are reasonable terms.” she concluded. She shifted on her foot, the echoes taking note of the disappearing simulation and also, she was pretty certain her shoes were wet now.
”C....can I go warm up now, Sam? My shoes got soggy. Not to complain, or anything, but... it’s kinda cold..”
