The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam moved into action, taking what could only be described as an ice form before appearing next to her. The echoes knew what he was trying to say, but that didn't mean she was happy about it. He wanted her to run toward the target this time, instead of standing still?
A side of her wanted to backtalk, wondering how ridiculous she would look sliding across snow and ice. But..she would never be able to fight or train with Sam if she was so easily deterred by a little cold. She wanted to keep learning, right? That meant listening to what she was told, even if it seemed silly. So, she jumped over the hill, scooping up her weapons and moving for the targets.
The echoes found it harder to dodge the attacks coming behind her. Sam wasn't intentionally aiming for her so she wasn't afraid, necessarily, but it was unnerving not being able to accurately dodge. First one sai then the other hit a target. Even with all the movement and snow, she made her marks. The weapons reappeared further along the room and she grabbed one, going for the final throw. None of the snowballs hit her, but she slid a little and squealed as she fell back into a snow bank.
She giggled. She laughed and that was a sign that training was over. She shivered slightly, clothes somewhat damp now. "Next time, remind me to bring a j-jacket." She complained goodhearted. Wrapping her arms around her body she waited for Sam to stop the simulation. She was cold, she was happy, but she was done.

As Ion explained, Evelyn felt herself understanding what he meant. Actually, it felt odd being a bit wrong, but that was always a risk with her powers. Deduction did not always account for human emotions. His perceptions of time, his concepts of goals and abilities had a different direction that suddenly made his appreciate make sense. "To you, the real gift is time. Everything is possible with effort, but you are forced to make choices what is most important when you have a limited amount of time. But, that is what I felt was so great about being set back to this age! The chance to make choices again and if I help, we can study, and you won't waste as much time. And we already figured out a lot about your powers." she felt optimistic.
She did not argue further when he insisted on making another fulgurite. This one came out as a spiral, and she was once again in awe. "It's amazing! Heck, if you ever needed cash you could sell these little things! I never thought electricity would make such amazing art pieces..." She took her gift with reverence. She was still afraid she would break it, but no longer wanted to miss the opportunity to have one.
"How did you get this one to change shape?" She asked, feeling that was significant. There was a substantial difference in the shape between both items. The first was more natural, while the second seemed like he had to have planned to get the results.

Evelyn was caught off guard when he complimented her notes. She blinked and looked down, wondering what was special about them. Sure, she wrote faster than most people, and the echoes helped her put things where they needed to go, but she always regarded her powers as human. Normal people could think fast, reason, remember. She was just a little faster at getting there sometimes. But, to someone who couldn’t remember that easily, she realized there must be a lot of pressure. He had dreams too, of school, and a future. Even Harvard it sounded like. She set her pencil down, and looked at him seriously.
”But everyone has a potential to succeed in those things. If you ever needed a study partner, I would help you. I can only let people listen to the echoes, but sometimes they are better at solving things than I would be. The memory thing is the only part that would probably help you more, but once I let go it’s not like you would still be able to pick out the memories as fast...” she trailed off awkwardly. When had she ever been awkward? Maybe because it was the first time she actually appreciated another mutants ability, and he actually liked hers.
She was relieved his powers seemed to protect his ears. She noticed he seemed to have a little discomfort for his eyes though. Well, the echoes noticed. She stopped by one of the storage cupboards on the way back and scooped out two pairs of welder style goggles. Then she saw the fulgurite. She was mesmerized.
”They’re so much prettier in person. Would...would you really make me one?” she was rattled by the offer. She had spent her childhood with wealth, but there were things missing even then. Her parents never picked out presents, never gave her things she wanted or really created the family dynamic. At the school she managed to make herself known as a hit of a brat, and hadn’t really made friends. Even Elke appreciated her, but they had a more business like relationship. He was offering something he made though. Something beautiful. She was almost afraid to say yes.
”W...what if I break it?” she stared at the existing fulgurite and gulped. It seemed so fragile. She almost felt afraid to touch one. She could close her eyes and the memory would be there, but she didn’t want things to just be memories. She wanted them to be real too.

Evelyn was finding it harder to concentrate, but she would never admit that to Sam. Moving, throwing, avoiding behind hit. This went from an experiment to build accuracy and had morphed into an obstacle course. The flip side was that Sam had secretly hit on what she craved. Praise. Rather than looking annoyed, the compliment flipped a switch and she almost smiled. There was a little light that reached her eyes, and the next throw hit it's mark.
"Yeah, these glasses suck, by the way. I think I'm more likely to hurt myself try to see with these fancy beer goggles than if your little snowball actually hit me in the face," she managed to deflect one of the incoming balls with the sai, pairing the momentum from defense to help throw the new attack. It hit low on the target, but stuck, and was successful enough she was surprised by it. Could she do that again? She was trying to work out how to repeat the volley when her foot went into a little hill of snow.
"Eeeeeeek!" The little girlish squeak of surprise escaped as she toppled backward and landed on her bottom in the snow. Her safety goggles slid sideways, and both weapons reappeared neatly on the floor beside her. Instead of reaching for the sai, she scooped up a handful of snow and crammed it into a clunky little snowball before pitching it at him. "That was cooooold!" She protested. Forget the fact making the snowball managed to make her hands even colder. It proved a point, said what she wanted and...was that a smile? She scooped up one more handful of snow, squished it into shape and chunked this one too. A little noise escaped her throat and a cold hand went across her mouth. Was she laughing?
Oh. This...was fun. She felt a little cold from using her hands, but it hadn't mattered at the time. She hadn't used logic in those moments, hadn't listened to the echoes. She just...laughed.

It was all about perspective, Sam said. Evelyn wondered if she even had the capacity to change her perspective. There were literal voices in her head reminding her when she was doing something wrong. She didn’t know how to relax, how to get the voices to believe in fun again. Maybe it was already too late for that. She was going to lose her mind in the long run, anyway.
Evelyn returned to her target practice, and hit one more bulls eye before the whoosh of movement distracted the echoes. The result was her body half twisted to acknowledge the snowball, and half followed momentum of her throw. The sai hit the ground with a clack and she looked at her shirt, now dusted with powder. ”I should have known you would be the type to take a cheap shot!” she accused. When the weapons returned, she picked up both this time, one arm poised at ready to deflect any side attack, the other used to attack the fake monsters. Divided, the echoes had to work harder, but she didn’t miss this time.
”Did you know that people have died from snowball injuries? And a significant number are hurt when hit in the eye especially? Kids try to make snowballs, rocks get mixed in. It’s an easy recipe for a disaster.” she hit the target again and glanced at Sam, eyes focused.

You've got good perspective for seven years old.
Evelyn looked momentarily amused, and chuckled to herself. "Oh, you have no idea." anyone who spend much time listening to her powers quickly decided she was somewhere between being smart, and absolutely crazy. Maybe she was walking the line between the two. It was a fun dance. And if she did loose her mind, wouldn't that just be part of the fun?
The bottle of dye spilled and Evelyn blinked, echoes watching with fascination as the color scrubbed off. [Repelling properties inconsistent with fabric makeup.] That was...different. Evelyn squinted again, and her brow furrowed. "You don't have like, a mutation that normally repels stains, do you? Because I've cataloged the mutants here and that is not on my list of possible abilities." No, super dye repelling was not something she had seen before.

Sam was...different. Most adults would have expected her to be honest and forthcoming, but he was telling her secrets were okay. She respected him for that. The quickest way to cause rebellion in Evelyn was to treat her like a child, and the fastest was to respect her like an adult. She was willing to respect his boundaries because he accepted hers.
While he claimed he had his own memories he had to relive, she almost argued with him. She didn't feel anything was as bad as what her powers did to her, but she paused. She thought of the time she spent helping free Zaid, and what it had taken to get the boy to feel safe after the rescue. Would she ever tell that boy he didn't have memories to be afraid of? No, of course not. The strength of her powers made things vivid, but others had their own brand of torment they had to go through. "If even small memories cause me frustration, I can't imagine what a bad one would really do. I managed to forget everything from my last life, and most days I'm just relieved."
Evelyn caught the snowball, eyes blinking and blue taking over her irises as she held the cold sphere. She looked up at him, almost confused. "I...there have been things that have been fun. But, I don't...I don't play." She had seen other kids do it, watched snowball fights in the street during a big storm, or seen them kicking and splashing in rain puddles. Those were things her parents would not have tolerated. If you're smart enough to say things like you're do then your smart enough to behave better.. Even when she painted it looked like a diagram.
The moment burst when he commented on her target, and she twisted to look at it, making a face. "That's not fair. Muscle memory is one thing, muscle endurance is a something else!" With a frustrated growl she took the snowball and pitched it rather hard back at his head. "You're the one making snowballs!"

Deflecting his question was revealing in its own way. Sam saw through the efforts and even called her on it. While Evelyn may have been annoyed if another adult had done this, she took it as advice coming from Sam. He was more like her than some of the other teachers. Like Jude, she saw the little scraps of darkness and felt drawn to them like a magnet. She wanted to be with people who understood not everyone was good, and not everyone wanted to be good. Evelyn didn't want to hurt people, necessarily, but she had no false illusions that everyone deserved her assistance.
She met his gaze and shrugged her shoulders. She made no excuses for what she did, and would never apologize. "I'm sure I'll read a lot more books. They just won't always be ones I want to share with you. Unless they were on the same team, she would always keep a grain of distance. Evelyn picked her allies carefully, even as a child. She knew enough to be cautious who she really let close.
Then he hit a nerve. Kids. Evelyn frowned and turned back to him instead of facing the target. "What's the point of doing kids stuff? It's just a waste of time. If I watch an hour of television, do you know how many times I might relive that same hour? There is no limit. If I don't know how a movie is going to turn out, then why would I subject my mind to the torment not just once, but multiple times. And what else would I do? Play? No one wants to play with a girl who makes them hear voices in their head." Evelyn shot him a look and threw the sai with force, not even facing the target this time. Between the echoes and the frustration, it managed to the forehead of one of the monsters in a dead-kill shot. Her eyes were silver again, her expression dark.
"I worry because I'm not just making one choice now, I'm making it forever. If you knew any memory you had could come back to life anytime you shut your eyes, would you risk it on something stupid? It's not just remembering. It's reliving. Same day, over and over." She threw another sai and it slammed next to the first. "Repetition, repeat. Restart."
Evelyn knew the school had a lot of technology but plasma cutters weren’t in the mix. Or, they were locked somewhere like the danger room and she had never seen them. It was probably just as well. If his powers were too strong would he break even that? Her little graphs showed no signs of upper limits yet. She wished she had taken some statistics so she could predict where the data was going more accurately. Right now they were just lots of numbers waiting for someone smarter to progress them.
Hmm, smarter for now, at least. She would catch up whenever she had time to read and train her powers. Although science was one thing. She could easily memorize a few principles. Learning math concepts involved knowing how to use the memories she had and taking the right approaches to application. Maybe she would wait until she was 8 for that.
William gathered different materials and Evelyn watched, while she had seen photos of glass being made, the wood was something new. Between the salt water and wood, the burning pattern was insanely cool. Evelyn was torn between crinkling her nose at the smell and feeling awed by what he made. ”That’s amazing! Look at the patterns. I wish my powers did cool things like that!” She wanted to touch it, but knew better than to grab a smoldering object. Maybe he would let her keep one. William was the coolest teenager ever! Thankfully Elke was younger so she didn’t have to let her new friends directly compete in age brackets together.
Then he moved to try with the sand. This time, it was the echoes that warned her while she was distracted. [Lightning, sand. Glass. Attempt likely to produce loud decibels of noise.] oh, cra—
She covered her ears just as he released his powers. She was fairly certain her hair stood up a little from all the static in the air now. Thankfully she covered her ears in time or her powers would have been MAD. She glanced at him, worried for his own hearing. ”Are you okay? Maybe we should have found earplugs first. I should have known that would be loud...oh, it kind of smells funny in here now. Maybe we should turn on the exhaust fan...” she scrambled to do so before they had a chance to see if his powers had done what they wanted. If they got some type of poisoning from their experiments she would never hear the end of it.
Both of them seemed to be glad they were only dealing with electricity rather than something worse. At least, they seemed to be relieved until Ion tested his abilities and broke the machine. Evelyn let out a low whistle and grinned a little devilishly. "Cool...you maxed it out. We should look into getting something stronger to measure with next time. I can chart the progress up until that point though."
She quickly finished up the notes and graphs, closing her eyes and replaying memories to make sure she didn't leave anything out. Her hand moved like she was a machine, sketching, adjusting, until she was pleased with what she created.
"Don't worry about the broken stuff. If anyone asks, you can blame me. My parents can buy them a new one," she seemed vaguely disinterested when she said that. It was one thing to be spoiled, it was another when your parents just couldn't bother to realize you were still charging credit cards because they apparently had so much money they couldn't keep track of it. "Or better yet, we can order a better one online! Although, that would require a computer."
Evelyn looked around at their supplies and drummed her fingers thoughtfully. "Are there any materials you want to try running a current through? It probably won't give much scientific data, but it could be fun. We can melt more stuff!" If he managed to do that to the electrode, what would happen with other materials? "Hey, does this mean you can make glass? That would be so cool! I mean, lightning can do it when it hits sand, maybe if you do it right you can make some. Or, you know, things might blow up. Maybe I should read more first." For once she looked like a child as she was torn between the desire to see really cool tricks with electricity, and the realization she lacked knowledge of what was actually scientifically possible.

Evelyn continued throwing, mind calculating as she went. The weapon moved higher into the target, each attempt having better results. Throw, adjust. Throw, adjust. If she had actual calculations she may have been able to work faster, but she felt she was processing in a good direction. Although, her arm was feeling more tired with each throw. Clearly, her body was not in sync with her brain.
Sam seemed calm about the whole procedure, but the echoes could sense some surprise when she looked sideways. There were tiny clues a person could give when their thoughts wandered: a pause, a slight clench in their jaw, a distracted moment. Sam was very well trained, but it was hard to fight against a mutation like hers. She wasn’t strong, or fast, just perceptive in the least opportune ways.
Sam asked about her experience with mercenaries and it was Evelyn’s turn to pause. She liked Jude, and felt taking her along had been a gesture of trust she would not betray. While Sam seemed promising as a friend, it was not in the same way she saw the other mercenaries. She had a change to be regarded as an equal, at least with the young leader. Sam had more potential as a parental figure, and that meant doing what you often did to parents: kept things to yourself.
”What I know about things is a very broad question,” she considered, tossing one of the sai in her hands and catching it. A little sloppy but there must be a certain point in the rotation to grab. If these were sharpened she would need to always plan for that. ”I know people opporate on different sides of the law. From my own findings, law is a very grey value. Every person has light and dark, angels and demons. Whose to say which really is the right side?” she took the philosophical side to it, while avoiding answering directly. It was her way of saying there were people she may side with that some may consider “bad”. But she was nothing if not a dangerous neutral with a powerful mind.

Evelyn momentarily regretted opting out of explosives, but figured if needed maybe she could talk him into blowing something up at the end. It was hard to make logical choices, when it was much more tempting to just choose mayhem all the time. Elke would have probably chosen mayhem, but Evelyn felt she needed more training if she was really going to be helpful for any cause.
Evleyn blinked in surprise when the tables appeared and tried to ignore the explosion of echoes in her head. Spontaneous generation of objects did NOT make the logic side of her brain happy, especially when she lifted a few and found them very obviously solid. There were things you just shouldn't question, and she focused until her powers settled. She gave a couple awkward tosses and let the echoes hone in on the weapons, trying to melt her mind and her muscle memory together. With each toss, she started feeling more comfortable with the weight distribution, and was understanding how it would respond to her actions. She could get used to this quickly. As long as what she was doing was within her bodies ability, she was confident her mind could do the heavy lifting.
The targets appeared and she scanned the options. Some of them seemed a little cheesy for her taste, but she figured Sam was staying more kid friendly with her. She looked calm and calculating with a weapon in her hand, and she was quiet and studious as he made the first throw. The echoes analyzed his actions too, quickly aware he was not someone she would ever want to cross. There was no hesitation in his throws, no clumsy first attempts like she had. Only people training to cause damage acted like him.
Evelyn picked her own target, and gave her first throw. The sai were light enough she managed to hit the bottom of the target with her limited muscle strength, but it did a rather silly looking spin in the air and clattered to the floor. Rather than looking frustrated like some kids would, Evelyn seemed calm. Calculate, adjust, continue. She told herself. She took the second sai and tried again. This time, the spin had a little more control, she managed more force, and the sai lodged in the leg of one of the monsters. The room was polite enough to return the weapons for another attempt. Perhaps it was to prevent practice partners from spearing each other during practice. "You have been fighting for a very long time." Evelyn commented, picking the same spot, adjusting, throwing. A little higher, echoes clamoring helpful suggestions in her ear.
"You don't seem military. Mercenary? You're too guarded for anything that law abiding," she decided. Throw, hit, recalculate. Her eyes were voice of color as she let her echoes overrun her mind. Numbers, logic, mechanics. She wondered if Sam understood those types of feelings too.

Evelyn was a good lab assistant and watched carefully as William tested his powers. She started drawing detailed little charts as they went, noting the readouts and even their start and finish times. She wasn’t sure what he would do with all the information, honestly, but she never complained about too much data. Heck, half the time, all she had was data, and it wasn’t useful until the proper moment.
The multimeter capped out finally, and Evelyn filled in their findings. ”Since we already have it set up, we may as well test the current. At least you aren’t generating like some dark mater or something we can’t measure. We can fill in the gaps with existing science!” She pulled one of the science books over and flipped a few pages while she waited. She wanted to look up the corona discharge. One of the textbooks had to have more on that.
When he was ready, she took further notes on current, letting her pencil scrawl as fast as it could. The echoes corrected any errors, and she shut her eyes once or twice to make sure she noted things accurately.

William collected the books and Evelyn didn’t fight him. She already succeeded in showing her thirst for reading was larger than her muscle strength. With a quick detour she moved to the library and easily retrieved the books they needed: Physical Properties of Electricity, Basic Electrical Theory, and a chemistry book with a decent section on ions. There was plenty between them to start with.
Back at the chemistry classroom, Evelyn set the books on a table and helped gather their materials. Anything useful for measuring electricity, amps, volts, etc was oiled onto one counter (with assistance, of course. Some of the older equipment was heavy). Last, she set out a notebook and pen so notes could be taken. While the echoes could store information for Evelyn, William would probably want records for himself, so she would assist.
”So, maybe we should start with baselines. Like, a workout. Do you have any natural output when you aren’t actively trying to generate electricity?” she suggested, climbing up onto a tall barstool and sitting on her knees so she could reach. She looked at him expectantly, inviting him to take a direction in this experiment. She was there to observe and record, like a good scientist.

Evelyn considered the information on the screen. Her own training sessions had relied on target practice, frequently run on repeat which she could only guess was a way of building muscle memory. She couldn’t read any of the underlying data, which she suspected could show progress or calculations she was using. At least, that’s what she would do now. It was hard to decide if adult her and child her still thought the same but with more experience, or if they had already diverted to different paths. Sam asked about the explosives and she considered.
”Maybe we could start with the basic training first. The explosives are useful to make a point and when you have a mission. Like, if we were in a situation where we had to bust down a door or blow up an enemy fortress! But, that wouldn’t make much sense as a training scenario if I can’t even hold a weapon yet.” she admitted. She may be a little on the disturbing side, but she was still logical.
”Do you think we can make some light enough for me? My powers may be advanced but I’m pretty sure my muscles remember they are seven.” she was still rather scrawny for her age. She ran mental calculations of the typical weight of a weapon and was already pretty certain she wouldn’t be able to throw more than a couple feet, brains or not.
