The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There was a large guinea pig in the living room of the mansion this particular morning. 'Large' seemed like a bit of an understatement, given some form of mystic magic seemed to have made this rodent almost the size of a pony. Evelyn was studying the phenomena, armed with her crayons and notebook as she tried to make sense of something that clearly did NOT make sense.
She disliked magic. She disliked the way it changed the rules that her world followed. What was possible sometimes changes and things happened that could not be attributed to mutant powers. Giant animals with surprisingly small appetites was her current interest. The guinea pig munched a carrot as if it still believed it was small enough to be carried. She crossed her legs and sighed, thinking about the other guinea pig this week and found with the powers to walk through walls. That went away, but the giant one did not.
There was a flash of color on Evelyn's hand the echoes noticed. This caught her by surprise even more than the animals she was studying. Cora. Trouble. it was not hard to put that logic together. Cora would only get her attention if help was needed. If they were trying to get to safety. They being her dad and what her mind secretly considered to be a mom figure.
Right, first step was to wake Doc! Evelyn scurried to the office of the patient medic and quickly knocked on the door. After a few times a man appeared, looking drowsy but glancing around for the injured. It was his default move, always ready to help. "Evelyn? What's wrong? Please tell me you are just bored again..."
"Cora and Sam are in trouble. They are coming here." she explained. He didn't ask how she knew. She always knew. That was her power after all. Doc nodded and turned on his light, moving to get space ready to deal with injuries. Evelyn hurried away and returned with a cup of coffee. She was calm, which was why he let her stay around during situations like this. Few other people seemed to take the logical approach when someone they cared about what involved, but the young girl had a somewhat broken, detached way of dealing with people.
Evelyn returned to the living room, and waited until the echoes heard her family coming. Moving to the door she noticed everything. Injuries, exhaustion, and how Sam very evidently overdid it protecting his girlfriend. She felt her jaw clench as he stepped inside and the look of relief crossed his features. They should have got help sooner. Doc was there moments after he passed out and grunted grumpily. "Would have helped if he at least made it to the office..." he sighed.
"We got it! Evelyn reassured him. She gently pulled Cora away from Sam and coaxed her pony-sized guinea pig over. Evelyn could tell her dad was worse and blood always needed help before bones. He would be upset they did things that way, but he always had trouble arguing with logic. Evelyn liked logic. Sam liked to respond with his heart too.
Doc caught the first wound, using his powers before they went anywhere to stop the bleeding. He didn't want to leave a blood trail evidently, and Evelyn got the guinea pig to help get Cora to the doctors office. She didn't question how it managed it, or the fact it seemed even bigger with it's determination to be useful. Mystic magic was weird. She did not like it. Soon Doc had Sam there as well, and both adults were healed but out cold on different beds. Evelyn swung her feet and scribbled on her notepad, then displayed it to Doc.
"It's ninjas, I'm right aren't I? Wound pattern consistent with throwing stars and knives, and a night attack.... You see things when you heal, it was ninjas wasn't it? Come on, tell me I'm right! I love being right!"
Doc was tired, and did not want to encourage her with the news that yes, it was ninjas, and they would have quite a bit of paperwork to do over it when it was morning...
Evelyn knew she was not getting out of this easily. Had it been a different adult who discovered the jet theft, she may have gotten away with more. But Gemma was that unique mix of authority and power that forced Evelyn in line.
She did not like it, but tried not to sulk, knowing full well it would not help.
She was faced with a dilemma: did she help rat out her friends, and avoid more trouble, or did she accept the punishment as an accomplice and try to stall? "I don't think he is going to answer mid flight. Maybe later tonight? He has girls with him, and adult interests."
With the promise that no cats would break in, Evelyn made space so Sam could enter the room. He was telling the truth about coming alone, but the fact he tried to hide everything being fine annoyed her for a moment. No, this was normal. Adults liked to say they were okay when they weren't. No, most people liked to say they were okay when they weren't. She did that too, so she accepted the discrepancy and continued to let the guinea pig.
Did she do something for him to cover for? She considered, and decided there was nothing new for the time being. "For the time being I have not done anything to need covering. However I will try to warn you before any future mischief." that was an honest enough answer.
Evelyn could not help looking surprised when he explained why he was there. The holidays. Christmas, to be precise. She lost her usual empty expression and seemed to look somewhat lost. "Oh. No, my parent went to parties and stuff but they didn't really do Christmas at home. Sometimes Jensen would get me something, but my parents were not exactly the hallmark card candidates... I...I am not really sure how we would celebrate it? Do we have to get a tree? Does it have to be in here? Evelyn regarded her room and knew there would not be space for a tree.
"Might be risky putting anything flammable in here with the Molotovs... she said under her breath.

Evelyn glanced at the snowman, then slowly shook her head, ”I’m not good at sports. The snowman would win. And...I am not great at...how do the other kids say it? I’m a sore loser.” Evelyn admitted casually. She didn’t seem all that bothered by it. She was sure they were right because the echoes knew they were right. Evelyn did not like losing, and she did not hide it. She would not pretend.
They focused on the conversation. New Zealand, Po. [Fear. Concern. Danger.] Even if Sam wanted to, he couldn’t hide that he had made a mistake. Evelyn knee the trip had been risky, but Sam knew things that His younger self hadn’t. The worry was caused by time and knowledge. The same intelligence that let Evelyn assess situations made her well aware she could be at risk.
Danger. Risk. She nodded once to show she understood but her face was calm. Evelyn has seen a lot in her life but this was not a situation she was afraid of. She was still young and confident in her own abilities. Maybe that was why she got along with Young Sam so well.
Tricks, voices: Evelyn felt she could outsmart those too. The echoes will know. They see tricks, can tell when someone messes with my head. If something happens, I can let you know.” hopefully that was enough for now to help him feel okay.
She went back to coloring. It was in the past now; and she didn’t spend time worrying about the past. The only place she wanted to go, was forward.

Evelyn was not winning over Gemma. To be fair, she never won over any of the mansion adults. Given, she may have used her powers to attack Mirror once, and she may have said some rude things to Serena. Actually, she said rude things a lot. But Sam didn’t seem to mind!
However, Gemma was stating Sam did NOT have teaching privileges. That was an argument Evelyn couldn’t really arguing. The fact that he chose to teach her did not necessarily make him a teacher by technical rules. Technical rules were what helped Evelyn get away with what she did.
Like gift cards, and guinea pigs.
”I wasn’t in charge of passenger identification, only chaos creation.” Evelyn was not a snitch. She did, however, know she had to tread carefully to avoid more unwelcome interrogation practices. Evelyn dishes in her pocket and pulled out an opalZ ”Participation prize?” bribery? Or clue? She tried to look innocent but she was never good at that look.
Evelyn knew Sam was outside. Or rather, the echoes knew. She didn't need superhuman hearing to hear the slight pause of footsteps, and the echoes had gotten rather good at identifying the walk of Sam. He was, after all, sort of her adopted parent now. Was he a dad? She wasn't sure yet how that part worked. She was sure every time she said the phrase 'mom' Cora was ready to run for the hills. Or, maybe all adults wanted to run for the hills when she was around. She did have a knack for making things explode.
Today she wasn't blowing anything up. She had a guinea pig in her arms and it was snuffling happily against her hand. When the voice finally called out to her, she pet the animal and answered. "I'm here. Just don't let any cats in!"
Most the guinea pigs had found homes with students who protected them from other animals in the mansion, but that didn't mean a cat didn't chase them from time to time. Although, she felt some of the pigs had gotten a bit larger recently. Mutant magic? Who knows, but the echoes were keeping track of it.
[Anxiety] Evelyn tilted her head when Sam walked in. Had she done something? No, the echoes didn't think she was in trouble. "Is everything okay?"

Evelyn did not have a flamethrower, but she took a moment to show off one of her Molotov cocktails she had hidden before going back to project at hand. Which, unless something went wrong, should not involve blowing anything up. She did have a lighter though, which she planted next to the other project supplies. The Molotov went back to the closet in a little fireproof box. Because she was at least somewhat safe with her flamables.
"Evil twins, stolen identities. Sounds interesting. And I don't think I would ever assume stuff like that is a joke, given I'm legally over 30 years old." Evelyn shrugged. Then she picked up the straightjacket. "So, is it still like armor? Is it only armor if you're wearing it? Do I get to stab you with this one?" Evelyn asked the question like she was asking for ice cream. Somehow she lacked the moral hesitation that usually came with stabbing someone.

Evelyn watched the snowman form, somewhat mesmerized by the act. It looked just like the drawing, and she didn't even let the echoes point out the flaws. Nope, this was the snowman from the paper, and she felt a little smile form. "I guess he can play what he wants to play. I won't judge until I see him in action," she commented.
Then she looked at her own art and colored some more. Then Sam asked another question that made her have to think.
"I met your old teacher, and we had some trouble leaving....but I think he was the only one who saw me," she finished. She decided an honest answer was best. She tapped the crayon on the paper and tilted her head a little. "But logically speaking, they had to have known someone was there, because of the driving....and the escape..." Yeah, they were not in a country where things drove themselves. And even the ice clones couldn't have driven entirely by themselves.

Evelyn considered the snowman before making a face, "Maybe he just wants to be captain? Because I don't think he would skate very good with his little snowman body. Or, he could be magic. Magic doesn't seem to work in ways that the echoes seem to understand," Evelyn admitted.
She could see Sam contemplating the trip, and wondered how much to say. It was still Sam, but, the older Sam seemed to be less of a fan of rule breaking, and the like. "I gave my word I wouldn't. I don't promise things, but, I still keep my word. Promises...promises don't feel like they mean a whole lot." Evelyn said it, thinking back to 'promises' she heard when she was younger. To her, it was more important just to mean what she said.
"I don't mean what I say around other teachers, but I do with you, so that's important." She resumed coloring, then made a face at the new question.
"Safe is a relative term. I was in a safe house, in a vehicle, but I was still out of the country. I believe other teachers would consider that 'not safe'."

Evelyn closed her eyes and tried to rid her brain of the image of the strings. The echoes were still chanting colors in her thoughts, almost too loud for her to hear Sam's answer. [Pink, white, faded pink, black, dark purple, faded purple, pink] they went everywhere... "Even if they scrubbed the recording, I could still get some information from Tedward I'm sure...Sorry, I'm just good at figuring things out." She sounded less like she was boasting, more like she was just pointing out a fact. Her power was noticing things, so, she noticed.
She opened her eyes and watched Sam take Cora's hand and led them outside. Evelyn followed and made a face when he suggested messing with her training. "Hey, this doesn't mean you two can team up on me! I helped you get to Hawaii! You wouldn't be dating without me," she bragged.
Cora laughed, which sort of irritated Evelyn, but she ignored it. "She does have a point. And I can probably train a little bit, since you were looking forward to it so much."
Evelyn waited while Ranger decided how to answer. She should have told him, but it wasn't exactly her fault. That was good. But he wanted to know how long Jude knew, and that also brought a dilemma between ratting out a friend, and being honest with her employer.
"I will tell you next time, for sure. Do...you plan on running around as a lady again?" Evelyn tilted her head. He had mentioned that he had been a woman before, but that didn't entirely suggest why he would expect to be one again. Unless, he just expected the unexpected. Or, random things always seemed to happen to him. The later seemed plausible.
Her brain was processing at a fast enough speed he shouldn't notice her hesitation. But she still looked up at the ceiling, sighing dramatically. "Jude is my friend, I don't want him to be in trouble. If you didn't want him to know, and he did know, and I didn't tell you he knew...."
Ranger was quick to promise that he wasn't going to use the information against Jude, he just wanted to know how bad he looked. Evelyn giggled. Oh, he had looked bad. "I mean, I can't guarantee he won't tease you eventually. Because, he knew the whole time. I think he was just enjoying watching you try to hide it. Sorry." she hoped that was reasonable enough to keep her loyalties to both of them. She didn't have many friends, she didn't want to mess it up too fast.
Evelyn watched Ranger start to sit like Noel again, and reached out to correct him. Unlearning was certainly going to be more time consuming than the alternative...Especially if he kept fusinig with his hair like that...

Evelyn kept shading, forcing the crayon to mimic fine lines, and switching between colors to get the shade she wanted. Or close to it. Nothing was really as accurate as she hoped. But she kept coloring. Kept trying to work her way into one of these tasks that children were supposed to be good at. She just couldn't relax. That was the problem, she couldn't let go of all the adult things to be a kid. Deaged, older, it hadn't mattered, she was just too old for her body.
"You taught me flying, but I was told I had to promise not to fly without you or without someone you knew could fly," Evelyn recited without looking up. She did glance over at Sam's 'masterpiece'. She blinked at the hockey stick. "Why does it have a hockey stick?"
Suddenly, the door to the infirmary burst open, and a small white haired child came in, immediately glaring up at Sam. "Hey! I thought we were going to train! Why did you take off--hey, is that your girlfriend? Wait, are you telling her you adopted me?" Evelyn went from angry to excited all at once, but there was still a noticeable glint in her eyes as she looked at Cora. Doc Prof started to shoo Evelyn away, but she ducked behind Sam, letting the echoes take score of the woman being doctored up.
[Insecure, uncertain. Defensive.]
Evelyn laughed, and having too much fun with what the echoes saw. "Hey, she's even more anxious about relationships than you are! You probably scared her telling her about me. Did you tell her she was going to be a m--"
There was a sudden flash of color as Cora's power's activated, and hundreds of threads suddenly became visible, all pointing to Evelyn. Evelyn yelped and jumped back in surprise, echoes struggling to analyze what all the strings were. [Pink, white, black thread, dark purple thread, faded thread, faded thread, faded thread] She tried to grab one, but couldn't touch them.
Doc Prof sighed and continued working, ignoring the untouchable strings now covering his office.
It was clear his manners were wrong, his head was stuck between the transitions and she tried to pick through her brain for a way to undo it. There were memories, sure, but who did she know who would be Texas enough to teach him body language again? Her brain was skimming for a movie, something, and then realized most of BlacTac was full of tough guys with guns. She would just have to....adjust things a bit. Her brain was already reorganizing information.
"The unlearning is going to be harder. We may need a few days to work on it. And, a lot of studying. Sadly I lack experience being a guy, so it's more of a trail and error," Evelyn decided. She could just show he comparison images of someone walking, Ranger walking, let the echoes correct, and painfully they would process the new information. Painful for Ranger. Evelyn was not doing the learning, thankfully.
She waved off his next question with a sigh. "And don't worry, the only one who noticed is Jude, and he already knew."
She saw a flash of surprise before Ranger spoke it, and paused, her posture lesson on hold. "Oh, you didn't know he knew. Should I have told you? Should I make sure he doesn't know we know he knows?" Ah, workplace secrets. Evelyn should have been more prepared for these sorts of things.
Considering Ranger left Jude in charge of so much, she didn't expect the information to be a big deal. But given the way Jude seemed to struggle at hiding his amusement when Ranger struggled to move in a female body...she would have thought it was obvious he knew something. Or, had Ranger assumed that was just Jude's push/pull relationship with his boss' girlfriend? Ah, adults. If only tying shoes were their only situation.

Ah, Gemma was mad. That was something the echoes were not needed to make clear. Even Nibbles knew the counselor was mad. Maybe the piggy would need counseling after this. Who knew? Evelyn was guilty, but she wasn't sorry. She sighed and put the guinea pig away at the question.
"Why wouldn't I help Sam? He is my teacher. Am I not supposed to listen to a teacher?" Evelyn looked up and tilted her head, as if daring Gemma to come up with the wrong answer. A few students looked over, as if also wondering if they were supposed to listen to teachers. The echoes finished the tally and Evelyn reached in her back pocket and held out a gift card to a random girl next to her.
"Also, Mizzy won. That's to Build-a-Dragon in the mall. $100. And these two are participation prizes," she handed two more $25 ones to the runners up the echoes had announced. The kids squealed excitedly as they took their prizes and left the danger room. The losers were still in good spirits because some were still trying to sneak away with guinea pigs before someone noticed.
