The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Abby thought about what Sam said about going out into the city barefoot. She didn't really do that. The streets weren't really clean for her to feel comfortable walking barefoot on them. And there was always the possibility of stepping on something sharp, like a nail or broken glass. Huh. She hadn't thought about that. Now she'd have to learn how to fight with shoes. Or find shoes that didn't hurt her skin. The first option was more likely. The little blonde hadn't found a material that didn't hurt yet.
Getting confirmation, of sorts, on Serena being busy soon didn't help either. It didn't seem like Sam was going to offer. And Abby wasn't going to ask him to start a class just for her. And he was part of the X-Men. Her wanting to learn how to defend herself wasn't that big of a deal in comparison.
>>”You have an interest in learning from me?”
Or maybe he was just... really slow? Maybe it was the alcohol? Abby didn't know if she wanted to know the answer to that though. "Kinda," she admitted.
He had taught Serena. Serena was gonna be busy. He was also in the Mansion probably more than her fellow blonde. Cafas was a little scary looking after he finished training. Abby wasn't ready for that kind of training. Sam taught Serena. The lesson she had with Serena was... not easy, but it was a lot better than she thought it would be. If Sam taught Serena, it was likely Serena had taught like he had with her.
"If you're not too busy?" She tried. She really did. But she still glanced at the glass of alcohol.

Abby rubbed at her eye as she walked into the dining room from the kitchen. She had a big plate of bacon, some toast, and some scrambled eggs. She was still waking up, but making herself breakfast had become habit. She woke up before the designated breakfast time. She usually made more than she herself could eat, but it was usually eaten by someone else who woke up early.
There was a woman at the table. Who was waving at her. The little blonde blinked. She didn't think she knew the woman. But she was an adult, probably knew one of the other adults she knew. And she was in the Mansion to begin with.
"Morning," Abby greeted softly. She liked the early morning quiet. No point in destroying it when it was only two people. Both of whom were probably just waking up if the shifter was any judge.

Serena had a dangerous mutation. It wasn't as shocking as Abby thought it would be. She had met so many people with different powers, learning her older friends had the ability to control blood wasn't so high up on her list. Between meeting Cafas, Kirsi, and the many other students at the school had left Abby with a somewhat skewed look on mutation danger levels. She had gone shopping with a known murderer after all.
But it was nice to hear about Serena's experience as a student here. It was kinda similar to hers. Because she shifted into a predator, the other students feared her. Neither she nor the older blonde could control what their power ended up as.
>>"Now, I have excellent control and I have a great deal of friends my age, both in and out of the mansion, and as far as I'm aware, the kids seem to like me when I help out with classes and stuff. You seem to put up with me, so even though a lot of people are aware of what I'm capable of, they get along with me."
It sounded nice. If that worked out for Abby like it did for Serena. But it sounded like Serena was feared because of not knowing how to control her power. Abby didn't really have that problem. Her mutation was instinctive.
>>"So what I'm saying is most people, especially the decent ones, value your personality and actions over things you can't control, like say your power. And everything I've seen of you as a person suggests you will grow to be a wonderful, and liked young woman. I look forwards to seeing it."
A flush of pink covered Abby's cheeks. She had gotten used to the feeling of heat rising there. It seemed like she was getting more friends as time went by. It was just... ”Why do people, even mutants, fear us? We don't have control of our power any more than they do.” Yes Abby's mutation was more instinct than learned, but she still have trouble figuring out what her instincts were telling her. ”I know better than to bite people. I know when I'm close to water that I can transform in. I know how to swim with my tail. I've never done anything to others. It just doesn't make sense,” the little blonde grumbled.
This is really cool! I don't think Abby would be on the list, but she is friends with Panu and Renegade (though Kirsi isn't exactly known since Renegade does not yet equal Kirsi), considers Cafas and Maya family, and is sorta friends with Valkyrie. Abby has also been seen in public with Kaz and Isabel. Abby was also very well known due to her speaking at the first Peace Rally.
*continues believing Abby is safe from angry humans*
I'm personally of the opinion that the Xs should be on the list. At least the more visible ones.

Though the other girl was younger, she seemed like she knew what she was talking about. As soon as Abby heard "go" she bolted. She turned the corner wide, not trusting herself to stay on her feet if she did a tight turn there. She got a bit further from the alley and stopped, panting. She wanted to get out of there, but she wasn't going to leave the other girl, Kirsi her mind supplied.
She waited with baited breath for the other blonde to show up. She jumped a little at the loud bang that came from the alley. Then Kirsi was there. Abby felt a weight leave her. "You okay?" she asked once the girl was closer. "Oh! Sorry, I'm Abby!"

Abby stayed near Maya as the adults all talked. She didn't really know what they were here for... well, she knew what they were supposed to be getting. Girl stuff. Things Abby didn't really have any experience with. Boobs. Boob holders. Bras.
The sales lady looked funny after looking at Isabel. Abby wasn't sure why she looked like that, but it was funny.
"M-mutant considerations are our specialty after all! Are you all— will you all be needing measurements taken today? Or...?"
"Just me," Abby squeaked out. Her squeak had the unfortunate consequence of turning the sales lady's attention to her though.
"Alright, hun. Come with me." The lady turned and moved through all the racks and things between the front of the store and the dressing room area.
Abby turned to look at Maya before following the lady. She kept her hand in Maya's for as long as she could. She hoped the older woman would come with her. The lady was kinda scary.

She had really messed up. She really had. She had even told herself to tell someone before she left. But she had forgotten. Panu had texted her and she had forgotten to let someone know she was leaving for the night. She didn't have any excuse for him either.
Panic set into the young girl's tired mind.
Abby had never been approached by one of the adults for something like this. She hadn't ever got in trouble at the Mansion before. She had worked really hard not to get into trouble before. But she had gotten in trouble now. And with Cafas too.
”Am I gonna have ta leave now?” she asked quietly, turning her eyes to look at Cafas. She didn't want to leave. She liked living here. She had friends now too! She was even looking forward to spending time with her new friends. ”I don't wanna leave, Papa! I like it here!” Abby winced at her slip again.

Abby had just gotten to her door when Cafas called her name again. She froze as soon as she heard his voice. That was a Dad voice. It had been a long time since she had heard one, but the reaction was still the same. Freeze. Turn. Face judgement.
Her face was burning red, so she kept it down, laying her eyes on Cafas' shoes. That was a safe place to look. She didn't want him to comment on her slip. The slip that had only really happened because she was tired and she had been thinking of him as Papa for a while now. She hadn't meant to call him that. She knew why he was there. But couldn't he wait until she could think without embarrassing herself? Please?

Abby smiled shyly at his praise. She knew she had a lot to learn, but it was still nice to hear she was doing good. She hummed in confirmation to his first question. She was pretty sure he was messing with her when he shook his hand out. The dummies in the Danger Room hadn't really seemed affected by her punches.
>>”That’s a lot to explain, and you understood it all?”
"Not all of it. I know a lot of it will make more sense when I have a spar or something like that. I was kinda hoping to get something like that in a class." She moved back on her feet so she could watch him move around his office.
>>”But, one of the things you got to remember is you won’t always have time to take off your shoes if you need to defend yourself, right? She tell you about practicing exactly what you want to perform?”
"I know. But I don't wear shoes a whole lot. At least, not if I don't have to. I've been practicing going from any position to my ready stance. Every time I get startled, I mean," she tried to explain. She didn't really know what he was asking, but she did try. "I know if I have any questions I can go ask her, though she's gonna be in school again soon, I think."

Abby smiled at Panu's way of asking her to come over. It was awkward but it got the point across.
>>“And if you ever want for stupid children to be put in place like dogs in kennel, I am okay with visit you at Xavier's. We will see who is laughing at you when you are on arm of Number One Most Eligible Nine-Year-Old. Just please make sure Adapted Counselor is busy with something before I am over.”
She could see not wanting to see Mama. ”Deal, though Mama tries to keep away from those who need their mutations. I could let her know when you're coming over.” She hadn't seen Mama in a while, but she was around.
Business it was. The mansion was large. But it felt empty compared to the school. You couldn't really go anywhere with being able to hear someone somewhere. The technology in his room caused the little girl to stop in the doorway. There was so much there. It kind of reminded her of the Danger Room. All the technology with no real visible displays. She followed slowly, taking in all the equipment as she went. It just reinforced her idea that Panu's mutation was technology related.
>>“This is Utopia.”
She took the tablet and watched as the image changed. First to a flat white area. Then to a small dome that grew. And grew. And grew. It was cool to watch. Communications center was where Panu would stay. It definitely sounded right for him. ”Can you show me the first city plan?” she asked. She wanted to see it again, slower than before. ”Can you show me the list of the buildings?”

Cartoon show? Abby turned in her seat to face the bookshelf. "What cartoon show?" It sure sounded like one Abby might like.
>>"He isn't an alien. He's a mutant. And he won't even move away from the book case to talk, because he doesn't want you to see how much he's laughing back there."
"But if mutants exist, why couldn't aliens exist too?" Mutants weren't supposed to exist. But they did. Abby and Amelia were proof of that at least. Maybe the green guy too.
>>"This is distracting you from history. This science stuff is way beyond your history book."
Abby frowned a bit. She liked science. But Amelia was right. She was working on history. Science wasn't as hard since it didn't have so many dates to remember. "Win at life? How do you do that?" She'd heard of it, but she hadn't been able to ask before. Most of her classmates didn't like her, so she didn't feel comfortable asking.

Ears and tail. Right. Abby would remember not to grab those. Ever.
That did make her try to think back. Did she know Adder? Before that day with Panu? Ears and tail. Ears and tail. Ears and tail. Ears and... tail.
Abby tilted her head as she stared at Adder. That tingle in her brain was back. Louder than before. Ears and tail.
It was on the tip of her tongue, so to speak. She knew Adder before Panu. She knew that now. Ears. And. Tail.
How many shifters had she met? One's with ears and tails that the younger kids could grab. Shifters that didn't look too scary. Shifters that looked like...
>>"And there are weird adults here. Like drunk chihuahua."
Chihuahua? "Who's a drunk chihuahua?" she asked a little giggly. She couldn't think of any adults who were like a chihuahua. There was maybe a few rumored to be drunk. She wasn't sure about those though.
Dogs have tails and ears. Dogs are also not usually scary looking. So younger kids wouldn't be afraid to go near him. Ears and tail.
Shifters, ears, tail, cuddly...
Drowned Rat!!!!
Adder was her wolf friend! Her mouth hung open as the thought clicked into place. Adder was the first person she had cuddled with in a long time. She had watched a movie with him. Shared snacks and raced in the halls. She had rubbed his fur dry. Adder was her wolf friend.
"I never did find out if you liked the movie," she blurted out. It had bothered her afterwards. She was pretty sure they had slept in her bed, like a sleepover, but she wasn't sure. The night was kinda foggy. She did know that they had cuddled. And she had missed the ending of the movie because she fell asleep.

He talked about Serena like she talked about him. That made Abby like Sam more. She didn't know why he drank alcohol before lunch. She didn't know much about him at all. But he cared for her friend. Probably near as much as Serena cared for him.
>>”How hard can you punch Abby?”
Abby licked her lip before shifting into her ready stance. She was happy she rarely wore shoes in the Mansion. She still hadn't figured out how to keep her stance with shoes on. It didn't take her long to get into her stance. She had been practicing going from different positions to her stance. Serena made it clear she wouldn't always be ready to fight. The little blonde could now shift into her stance in a few seconds. Still not as fast as she'd like, but a lot better than when she started. Ready, she turned her whole body into the punch, like Serena had taught her.
>>”How did you like learning from Serena? Did she explain everything for you?”
"Mhmm!" Abby grinned. This was easy to talk about. Though she'd have to eventually find out what she really wanted to know. "She answered all my questions and explained everything really well. She didn't get upset that I took off my shoes either." That was a big point she liked about her lesson with Serena. Most teachers got on to her for not wearing shoes. Serena just let her be barefoot.

Abby slid down to the floor, stretching her legs out straight. Not being on them was nice. And spending time with Serena was nice too. She forgot how much she liked the older blonde. She answered Abby's questions and liked her tail. It was easy to ask Serena questions. Kinda like talking with DocProf.
>>"Abigail, has anybody ever told you what my mutation is?"
The little blonde shook her head. "I don't think so." Asking someone else what their mutation was kinda seemed like a bad idea. The unspoken rule she followed was "don't ask if they want to tell you they will." Sometimes she could figure it out on her own. Some were kind of easy. Others not so much. But... Serena was the one to bring it up. So... "What is it?" she asked tentatively.
Abby nodded a little. She could wait to see all of the written plans. She knew Panu's first language wasn't English. She should have remembered though. He just spoke a lot better than some other non-English speakers did. And there were adults working on Utopia. Of course they would've thought about a lot of the things she found. They were adults. The younger child would probably know exactly where to find the information too. Since he had the whole coder thing for a mutation.
She was still chastising herself when the younger blond grabbed her hand. She did notice the soft grass on her feet. Grass felt a lot better than rough concrete. Not as good as smooth floors or fur, but a lot better. It was also much cooler. And a little damp. They probably watered the lawn at some point that day. She hummed a little at the lessening of pain.
She was still relishing the smooth floors when Panu started talking to her.
>>“It is okay. There are no maids or second cousins or body guards hiding behind corners. Only us. You do not need to pretend that we are real children here. Is okay to relax act. Don't you get tired, pretending all the time like you are normal little girl raised by people who care? There are zero adults right now, is okay to just do whatever.”
Abby smiled at the younger boy. He seemed almost as shy as she was. His little slide made her laugh though. Did she act? She felt like a normal little girl. Though... she really wasn't was she? Her parents were dead. Her aunt and uncle lived a good distance away. She only recently found adults she felt she could trust (not counting DocProf). She wasn't really being raised by anyone. She was just... growing up. ”It's easier to stay, mmm, in character,” she eventually decided to say.
If she forgot that she was the girl everyone avoided at school... She would probably end up crying again, like she had her first few years at the Mansion. She didn't want to go back to that. She was better than that now. She was the girl who kept to herself. The one with only a few friends. Even those were likely to leave at some point. She hoped not. But it could happen. But saying all that, after his offer earlier, probably wasn't smart. Panu seemed like one of those who was really protective of his friends. And he had resources to do something in response.
Taking Panu's sock slide as inspiration, Abby did a few cartwheels to get closer to the boy. Once she was next to him she grinned. ”Now, business?” It kinda felt like a game when she was with Panu. But it was a fun game. One where she was liked and listened to and so much better than her life at the Mansion.
