The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Abby was enjoying her walk back to her room. Her first sleepover had been fun. She had helped a friend with figuring out some things and had a bunch of fun over the night. Though she hadn't really slept much. Now was a good time to go to bed. Sleep until like noon. That sounded like a great plan.
She passed a few people she recognized. A few classmates. Including some of the boys who had laughed and mocked her the day before. They were staring after her now. It made her smile a little. They were wrong. She did know Panu and they were friends. It gave her enough confidence to get to the dorm corridor.
There she stopped. Cafas was standing there. Uh-oh... She had forgotten to let someone know she was going out. Oops. "Morning, Papa." Abby froze. She hadn't meant to say that out loud. Before he could respond to her slip, she dashed towards her room. Safety was in her room.

How's life?
Abby laughed at the text from her uncle. Now that he knew about her phone, he was texting her. It was nice to have immediate access to him.
Good. Planning on going shopping soon. I grew an inch!
Woo! An inch! Tall girl!
Ha ha. Very funny
You get it from your grandma. She short too
That was new. They didn't talk about her grandparents often. From what she understood, neither of them wanted anything to do with their mutant granddaughter. Abby was pretty sure that was why her uncle didn't want to have kids. Science said mutation was passed via the male genome.
Did it skip a gen? Why don't you have to suffer with me?
It's only you women folk
I'm going to chop off your legs off at the knees
Good thing you're so far away then
Not even a state away. I can get a taxi
You don't have the money for a taxi
Guess I'm not coming there for Christmas
Guess I'll have to break the news to Teresa. Wish me luck.

Private lessons were... she wasn't sure what they would be. She had a private lesson with Serena, but she knew Serena. She didn't really know this man. And from what she understood, he trained as much as Cafas trained. And she had seen Cafas after training.
>>”Now what did Serena teach you?”
”She taught me how to stand and dodge and punch,” Abby told him. There were other things, but she didn't really trust him enough to tell him all of it. Her name? Oh yeah, she hadn't introduced herself. ”I'm Abby.”

”Hi Uncle Henry,” Abby greeted when her uncle picked up the phone. She was happy it was him and not Aunt Teresa. Her aunt hadn't been happy when she had told them she wanted to stay for the summer.
”Abbigail! How are you today? Borrow one of your friend's phones?”
”I'm good. And not quite.” How was she supposed to explain that she was given a cell phone by someone who was almost a complete stranger? Better not to mention that last part probably. ”One of my friends got tired of not being able to get a hold of me, so he got me a phone. He said his dad was happy to so that we could talk.” And it wasn't like Panu was a stranger anymore.
”Well that's nice of them. Excited for school to start back up?”
Her uncle was so much easier to talk to than her aunt. Especially after she had taken Cafas' advice and told her aunt how she really felt. That was probably why Uncle Henry had picked up the phone. ”Yeah! I've been studying what we should be learning so that I know a bit about it all. My teachers have been really nice about helping me find material. I've even started some self-defense classes.” Or rather she had taken lessons from Serena. Still. She'd probably sign up for a class once school got back in session.
”That's good. I can worry a bit less now. Guess you've probably heard about this whole Utopia thing, yeah?”
”Yeah. They had the news on when Ambrose Jaager made the announcement...”
The thirteen year old ended up talking with her uncle for a long time. Mostly about Utopia and the things she looked up about different attempts. Her uncle was a lot easier to talk to than Aunt Teresa. They liked the same things. Uncle Henry even gave her some things to think about (and text Panu about later). They talked about other things too. Uncle Henry's job, Abby's recent growth spurt, some of her friends, and a bit about her experiences in New York with all the tension.
Uncle Henry was easy enough to talk to that she told him about sleeping over at Panu's and meeting Kirsi and Kaz and Hades and all sorts of things she wouldn't have told Aunt Teresa. Aunt Teresa would have panicked and told Abby she was leaving the Mansion. Uncle Henry listened to the whole story before making a decision like that. He also took what Abby herself wanted. She made sure to mention taking a defense class this coming year.
By the end of the conversation she felt better. Uncle Henry would probably only tell Aunt Teresa a third of what they talked about. That was one of the reasons she loved her uncle. He filtered what Abby said in a way that didn't freak her aunt out.
”It's gettin' late, Chickadee. Now that I have your new number we can talk more. Alright?”

She had been about to turn around when he answered her question. It didn't seem like a good time. But she wasn't going to argue. She didn't think her courage would last long enough for a second attempt.
>>”What do you need half-pint?”
How to answer that? She couldn't just say that she wanted to find out if he was... what everyone seemed to call him. Well, everyone but Serena. Serena! Serena had mentioned her introducing Abby to Sam when she got better at defending herself. He was the self defense teacher after all.
"I was, ah, wondering if you were gonna have a self defense class this year. Serena taught me a bit earlier this summer, but I kinda want to take a class." There! That was a good reason to be wanting to talk to him.

Abby opened the door and caught the scent of alcohol. So that was probably a correct rumor. She frowned as she entered the office. She closed the door behind her and looked around. There were papers scattered around and the man had a glass of amber liquid in his hand. Probably scotch or whiskey. Her uncle drank those on special occasions. But it wasn't even lunch time yet. Probably best not to ask about that. Her uncle liked to tease her with "it's five o'clock somewhere" anyways. This man would probably say something similar.
"Is this a good time?" she asked cautiously. "I can come back." Though she really probably wouldn't. It had taken a lot of courage for her to search out this stranger. Maybe she should have gone to Cafas first. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. She should probably just let him get back to work. It looked like he had a lot.

Abby was on the hunt. She knew the likely places her prey would be. And didn't that just tickle you pink. She was avoided by the other students because of her shark-ness. Because apparently being a shark shifter equated eating people. But, Abby was able to ignore the irony to the situation. She was on the hunt.
Well, looking for someone.
She had heard about them from a few people now. Serena mostly. The older blonde seemed to really like Sam. But she had also heard a few not so nice things. Serena had seemed a little sad when talking about him. Rough couple of years is how she had put it. Drunk was another word used. Not by Serena, but still. Abby had sort of adopted Serena's opinion of not judging someone until she had met them. And she wanted to meet Sam.
So hunting. Kind of. She had gone to Doc to ask if he knew where the X-Men leader would be. Doc seemed to know everything. He had told her to try either the Danger Room, grounds, or Sam's office. She was pretty sure Cafas was using the Danger Room right now, so she figured she'd try his office first. It was one small location compared to the large grounds of the school.
Finding it wasn't too hard. Name plates were awesome. Even if they had to have them on their bedroom doors too. She knocked a little on the door that led to Sam Johnson's office. She shifted her weight between her feet as she waited.

Abby drank her water slowly as she listened to Serena. Cafas and Maya were nice. They didn't act like she was going to eat them. Mama had been nice too, but she hadn't spent much time with her. The gate-killer was... she was different. DocProf was awesome and knew all sorts of fun facts.
"The kids my age do," she mumbled quietly. Lots of the kids in her class acted like she would eat them if they got too close. There were times they forgot and talked to her like a normal classmate, but it wasn't often. Her teeth were pretty visible after all. "Do you think they'll ever stop?"

Panu's explanation of Utopia made some sense. She didn't even notice the awkward release of arms because she was thinking so much. Antarctica was probably the only land they could use to make a whole new nation. Surviving in extreme climates though... some wouldn't have that ability. She could survive in cold water just fine, but a place like Antarctica was a little too cold for her. Getting mutants to help build the society would help make the place, but what would happen if one or two left?
”Having multiple ways of doing something would be better than relying on mutations alone. Greenhouses would also offer jobs for some of the mutants. Not everyone will have a useful mutation in Utopia.” She could say more, but she still had to gather a few thoughts.
Heat... There were service stations in Antarctica run by people who didn't have heat manipulation abilities. Coal, oil, wood. They all burn, but that would have the country dependent on another for an import. Exports though...
>>“If idealism is not enough, Jaa—father has enough money, we can simply hire as employees. Make living off natural power is dream for many mutants.”
Abby hummed a bit at that information. ”If you want a nation that lasts, it shouldn't rely on employees like that. Exports would be a good way for Utopia to make an income. There'd probably be a need for imports anyway, so having something to trade for would be a good idea.”
There were a few moments where she had to bite back a hiss of pain. The gates and trees lining the sidewalk covered a lot of the sidewalk but not every bit. The sun heated concrete was painful for her skin. Shoes would be just as painful though so she left them in her bag. It wasn't like the entire sidewalk was super heated.
>>“Please come in. My father has meetings most of day, so we are alone.”
She let out a soft sigh of relief as her feet touched to cool, smooth wood floors. It felt really nice after the rough concrete outside. ”Do you usually spend time alone here?” she asked quietly. ”I can come over more often, since you live so close. If you'd like.”

Abby giggled a little at Adder's response to her question. She couldn't deny it though. Bacon was a very popular food. Bacon-wrapped anything was usually good. It was just the idea of cold bacon that got her. Shaking her head, trying to get the fogginess to leave her brain, she watched as Adder seemed to have an argument with himself. Then he slid a burger towards her on the lid.
She swallowed her cereal and took a drink of her orange juice before picking up the cold, but cooked, meat. There was bacon wrapped all around the burger, making it hard to tell how much was bacon and how much was burger. But the one he passed to her wasn't as greasy as some of the others she could see.
Taking a bite was the next step. She did. It was cold. Cold but cooked. And bacon. She had never had cold bacon before. It never seemed to last long enough for that to happen. The burger was good. Tasted a little weird with orange juice and cinnamon flavors in her mouth. But good none the less. She ate the whole thing. No point in wasting good food, even if the flavors didn't mix well. Like toothpaste and orange juice.
Once she was done with the bacon burger, she wiped her hands on one of the napkins scattered around... well everywhere. Napkins were everywhere in the kitchen and dining room. Then she took another sip of juice. Still weird tasting, but bacon and orange juice went fine together. "How are you liking the Mansion?" she asked Adder. She didn't know how long he had been here, or if she had seen him before (though the food sharing thing made a tingling happen in her brain. She'd look back on it later). Asking those types of questions would make her seem mean. So how he felt about the Mansion was the better option.

The man who started the meeting was a little... strange. His wording matched what Miika used to get them in though. It sounded like a movie or something.
“Today, we gather to Witness the Heir to our Lord's kingdom. Sister Penumbra brings us an update on the Interloper.”
Heir. Lord. Interloper. She glanced at the picture and froze. Cafas. They were still talking as the little blonde started thinking. These people had been at the Mansion. At least close enough to take pictures.
>>“I will search network now. Please protect.”
Abby nodded a little at Miika. She had wanted to make a comment about Cafas to the meeting. But that would bring attention to them. Which seemed like a bad idea when asked to protect Miika. She didn't know what “network” he was going to search, but it probably had something to do with his mutation. There were so many questions she wanted to ask. And she would. Later. It was already (kind of) decided to go get ice cream after the meeting. She'd ask then.
”Brothers, Sisters,” the woman called over the slight increase in conversation, ”We know the Interloper is often seen in media. He is also among the... fraternity that lives within the same building as the Lord's family. Please, Brothers, Sisters, tell us what you have Witnessed of the Interloper's interactions with the Heir.”

Abby was a little stunned at Panu offering his hand. But then realized he probably heard the other kids laughing at her. She smiled and accepted his hand.
>>“Ms Abbigail. Is not wait for sun to rise; is only anticipation. Thank you for accepting my invitation.”
”And what is the sun without the moon,” she quipped back. Taking his arm was just a part of the act. It was nice of Panu to help her with the other kids. Their walk out of the building was done in silence. It was a nice silence though. They didn't need to talk.
She was a little worried when she didn't see a vehicle, but since they were in an area with plenty of fancy houses. The little shifter hadn't thought that Panu would live so close to the school. They would be able to see more of each other this way though. She'd have to remember that he was near by.
>>“I know you have reason for live like this. But if you want laughing children to have Unfortunate Accidents, is easy. Would not even be favor, only target practice.”
She tilted her head as she thought about his offer. She didn't really want them to have “unfortunate accidents” but did appeal to have them stop laughing at her. Her reason to live here though... Mostly it was because she didn't want to live with her Aunt and Uncle. Though she hadn't told them that. Before it was because she needed to learn to control her mutation. Now, she just didn't want to leave.
”It's appreciated.” She really did appreciate the offer. ”However, there would be questions if most of my classmates had accidents and I didn't.” She didn't even question if he could do it. He probably had plenty of resources to make such a thing happen.
”Tell me about Utopia,” she almost ordered. After reading about so many different attempts at similar communities, she wanted to know more about this one. She was no expert, but she at least had an idea of what could go long. ”Where is the planned location?”

Seven. That could work. It would have to. Abby responded with a quick ok text back and started getting some things together. She didn't know how long she would be over there, but judging from the pick up time, it would most likely be a sleepover. Her first sleepover outside the Mansion.
She put a set of clothes for tomorrow and some pjs in a bag. It was hard to remember what you needed to take with you to a sleepover. What would her Mommy have asked about? Clothes, shoes, brush, toothbrush... Each item listed found its way into her bag. The pjs were a set that she liked in purple, with flowers and stars. Her clothes for the next day she picked a skirt and shirt combo, as those fit best after her growth.
She double checked her blue sundress for any spots. She didn't think she'd have to change clothes to be accepted at Panu's. He was the one who offered after all. Her dress was clean and didn't smell or anything. Nodding to herself, Abby took her bag (and phone) with her to the library. She wanted to do more research into Utopia. History and all that. This at least was interesting to look into.
The internet was a wonderful thing in this instance. There had been plenty of attempts at creating a perfect society. From religious to dietary reasons. The attempts were numerous. She could already see several things she could ask Panu about. Location. Government. Jobs. Law. So many things that would need to be set in stone.
Her phone vibrated from where it sat, startling her from the books. Taking a look she jumped from her seat. Panu was here! She didn't even think about putting the books away. She took off for the foyer, her bag thumping against her back. She forgot all about texting him to let him know she was coming, or even letting an adult know she was leaving for the night.
As she got closer to the foyer, she slowed down. People were whispering as she got closer. She didn't pay much attention, not until she was almost at the doors. One of her classmates stopped her.
"Abby, did you hear? Ambrose Jaager's kid is here!" he told her excitedly. Apparently people were still talking about Jaager and his speech.
"I know," she told him. "He's here to pick me up."
The boy laughed. "Right, you know Jaager's kid." His tone was mocking. She knew he wouldn't have believed her, but it still hurt. She was the quiet girl no one liked. Shaking her head, the blonde girl left the boy there and went to meet her friend. Opening the door was easy. Going through the doorway while a bunch of boys laughed at her wasn't so easy.
"Hey Panu," she called once spotting the boy. "Sorry about making you wait. Shall we get going?"
A loud laugh came from one of the boys. They didn't believe her. She was just the girl who no one liked after all.

When was good for her? Abby thought about that. School was going to be restarting in a few weeks. Summer was almost over. Students who had homes outside of the Mansion were coming back to prepare. Tonight though? What did she have going on tonight?
She had planned on going shopping for some new clothes tomorrow morning, but there was still time to do that. She had grown over the summer. Not much, but enough that her pants didn't fit right.
Tonight works. Could you pick me up? I'm at the Sister's School.
Abby really didn't want to have to walk outside again. Not when people seemed to be crowding the school gates waiting for kids to leave. Not when the last time she left a man tried to kill her. Having Panu pick her up would be better. And since his dad was Ambrose Jaager, it shouldn't be hard for him to do either.
As soon as her response was sent, she got up and put the dictionary away. If she was going to be spending the night with Panu, she would need clothes and such. She should probably tell someone she would be out too. She'd let one of the adults know before she left. She had to get some clothes and things together first. She also needed a response from Panu too.
Abby wasn't sure why Maya and Isabel were talking about killing people. Or not killing people. Or maiming people... The little blonde wasn't sure why that conversation was happening. Maybe they had an inside joke? That sounded possible.
>>"What exactly are we shopping for? And why do you need me to come? I usually help with murdery things, not errand-running things."
Or maybe Isabel actually did murdery and maimy things. The sharp-toothed girl watched the two of them carefully. Did Cafas know about the murdery things? Did he know Maya was introducing her to Isabel? Abby thought the answer was yes, but she wasn't sure. She followed Maya out of the car while she thought. She didn't notice the mannequin or really anything about the store until the little bell chimed.
Inside there were plenty of... female things. In all sorts of colors. Bright ones, dark ones, ones that looked like skin. There were tops and bottoms and pieces that were both. There were even a few that seemed to really only looked like strings. Abby moved so Isabel was between her and the string things. Then she noticed the... She wasn't sure what they were. One looked like Indiana Jones' whip though. Abby grabbed Maya's hand and pulled her to help hide from the things.
”Welcome to Bosom Buddies!” a perky voice called. ”Home of all things Lacy, Racy, and Tasty. How can I help you ladies today?”
