The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Got a plot in mind?
MRO plots are player-created the Mods facilitate and organize the big ones, but we get the ideas from you. Do you have a plot in mind, and want to know whether it needs Mod approval? Check out our plot guidelines.
Also, there isn't anything wrong with being independent of any factions. After all, it's the only way you can get the Mutant God(dess) title. If you do hoose a faction and it doesn't seem right for your character, all those emotions and dilemmas that come from switching can always be interesting to RP.

Hi all, I am sick. It's a cold I think, but all I want to do lately is nap and go to bed early. I have to somehow find the energy to look alive at a couple of birthday celebrations (Jay's and Cam's) this weekend, so I probably won't be posting until Sunday or chatting much. The good news is that next week is my Spring break, so I should be able to get all caught up then!
This affects Katrina and Sebastian (and Calliope, to a lesser extent, since spying on the mod board seems to be about the only thing I have enough energy to do.)

Perhaps we should see who is interested to find out how many people actually want to do it. If only four people are able to participate, 1 thread would probably be best. If there are 10, two separate threads might work. If you end up doing two, I'd still set the threads after the regular X-men return from Romania. Otherwise you are going to have some very very tired, battered, and bruised X-kids.
I don't know what you mean about rolling dice for everyone. Perhaps letting people chose who they want to RP with rather than select randomly? It really depends on how many people sign up I suppose.
Don't forget, the NPCs from this mission need to go away after the mission is over; no recurring terror characters please.
Please vote only once, even if you have multiple accounts. Choose the member you feel has contributed the most to the site in the past month, in character and/ or out of character.
(I wonder if it non-mutant sites this contest is "member" of the month.)

LILY LAFAYETTE aka JEWEL
All that glitters is gold
HISTORY
The only daughter of a wealthy Southern family, Lily grew up sheltered and loved by everyone. Her father is in the jewelry business; Lily attended the best schools available, and when her powers manifested at the age of 17, her parents supported her in every way they could. Finding out she could use her mutation to pursue her dream about designing jewelry as a profession, Lily started working as an apprentice at a workshop. Her teacher soon found out about her mutation and her value as someone who can copy any piece and always tell if something was a fake. Soon she was working as a thief and counterfeiter among other things, and she was not even aware of it. When the police busted the business, she got arrested; her parents and the family’s lawyers managed to make a deal, so instead of going to prison, Lily was court ordered to move into a place where she could learn to control her powers. So it happened that one morning she arrived at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters…
And she made friends. A lot of friends: new ones like Shin, Alex, and Sam; she met again with her childhood friend Juka; and she met Shawn a.k.a. Silver Streak, who soon became something more than a friend. For the first time in her life Lily was out in the so-called ‘mutant world’, with all its exciting new details… and also the scary ones. She had been attacked by other mutants and by mutant haters; she had to find out the world outside her home was not as safe and innocent as she’d thought. (She also swapped bodies with a Kabal mercenary called Zephyr for two whole weeks, but she prefers not to talk about that.)
Lily made a decision: she would learn to use her powers for defending herself and people who need protection. A few months after her arrival, she signed up for the tryouts for the X-team, and became an X-men trainee. Her first mission was Romania: helping mutants to avoid the chaos of the Registration, and escape across the border to safety. The first few missions went well (apart from the infamous night out with Alex), but then Lily got captured, and thrown into the camps… (To be continued)
POWERS - Jewel has the ability to control and sense precious metals and gemstones. Silver, gold and platinum she can shape, levitate and form at her will within her 15-20 feet range. She can also create alloys or separate them from each other. Gemstones she can levitate, adjust in color and a minimum of size, with the exception of diamonds which she hasn’t mastered yet. She can also sense any precious metal within a one-mile radius.
Before moving into the X-Mansion, Lily mostly used her powers to create unique jewelry. After being attacked a couple of times and realizing there were other ways of making her abilities useful, she started experimenting with using metals as weapons and body armor, and using gemstones as bullets. Now she is getting used to controlling a bigger amount of silver and gold than she used to when she was only making earrings and bracelets…
POSTS TO SEE:
So many shinies – (Too) soon after her arrival to the Mansion, Lily founds herself in the middle of a fight between two members of the Order, a mutant-hater, and a shapeshifter called Audrey in a jewelry store. Her very first fight, but not nearly the last. A pretty girl in a bad bad place – Lily wakes up in a male body. Uh-oh. Not only the body belongs to a mercenary, the Big Boss (some kid called ‘Slate’) also shows up and drags his ‘amnesiac’ employee along on a dangerous mission…
What could go wrong? – Streak takes Lily out for a night downtown, but the pleasant evening takes a very unpleasant turn when they get attacked in the park. There will be fighting and shooting.
Shadowy figures – The first part of the X-men tryouts. Jewel gets teamed up with some molecule manipulator called Alex and an annoying guy called Kaz. The new team has to deal with invisible opponents, and also with each other…
A night to remember – Somewhere between chaos, missions and Registration Act insanity, a very pissed off Alex and a very naïve Lily spend a girls’ night out in a bar. Drinking. And that is only the beginning…

Thanks for the info, Martin. That's really cool and actually makes it seem more plausible that we could make a drug that could add a patch to DNA with real world technology. Perhaps it would work better to have a drug that inhibits a gene rather than adds a new one. Hang with me for a fairly detailed explanation for how I picture the genetics of a mutation working:
Imagine two genes, X and H. X is the infamous X-gene that causes mutations. H is a gene that naturally keeps X from working, we could call it the human-gene. Both are dominant, but H is dominant over X. Here's a list of all the possible combinations you could have from these two genes:
HH XX (human, X-gene carrier) HH Xx (human, X-gene carrier) HH xx (human, no X-gene)
Hh XX (human, X-gene carrier) Hh Xx (human, X-gene carrier) Hh xx (human, no X-gene)
hh XX (mutant) hh Xx (mutant) hh xx (baseline human, no X-gene)
Two humans could have a mutant child: Hh Xx + Hh Xx = hh XX, for example. Two mutants could have a human child, too: hh Xx + hh Xx = hh xx, see, no X-gene! A baseline human, or whatever it is Marvel calls them.
So, a drug that temporarily tampers with the H-gene and disables it could cause dormant X-gene to emerge and temporarily give someone mutant powers until their H-genes are back online. I imagine that people who don't have the H-gene (mutants or baseline humans) wouldn't be affected at all. Those humans that are not carriers of the X-gene (HH xx or Hh xx) perhaps might either be unaffected by the drug, or they could suffer terrible consequences as one of their genes is messed up and there is no gene waiting in the wings to take over its job. Who knows, we could really just make the effects serve whatever purpose we wanted.
In my mind, drugs do a lot of crazy weird things to our bodies. Most of the time when drugs are developed, it seems more like "Hey, we found this new substance, let's see what it does. Oh. It kills bacteria, cool. Let's call it penicillin" and less like "I want a drug that cures AIDS. Let's engineer one that specifically does that and ignore any failures that don't do exactly what we want." Drug companies that do the former and much more likely to find something marketable than the latter group, though it is certainly a noble cause.
When Lori proposed the idea, I thought it sounded more like they were experimenting on mutants and discovered the drug more by luck than by design. That would help get rid of the need to throw lots of money at trying to create something with a specific effect.

We're curious to see which skins are the most popular.
[/i] of you won't need that many. You do not have to switch accounts and vote on each one. You have a convenient little pile of ballots available to use on whichever account you are currently logged into.
* If you use the same skin on two accounts, vote for it twice![/ul] Thanks for your input!

It's time again to share the love, to show your appreciation for someone, to shout from the rooftops about how awesome one of your fellow RPers has been lately. In short, it's time to nominate some people for January's Mutant of the Month contest!
Please nominate someone you feel has gone above and beyond this month, explain your reason (explain it well enough to convince others, and you might earn them a couple of votes in the following weeks), and last but not least, leave a couple of links to their recent wowing work (just in case your description of why they should win wasn't already convincing enough).
Remember, you don't have to second nominations, you can show your support for a person by voting for them, too.

MAYA/GAWAIN MORRIS aka MIRROR
People in mirror are closer than they appear.
HISTORY Mirror was born to an absent father and a shapeshifter mother. S/he had been switching gender even before s/he was born; Mom organized her child a life in which s/he lived as the twins Maya and Gawain. All things considered, Mirror had a happy childhood, being homeschooled by Mom and taught everything s/he needed to know to survive as a mutant in the world of humans.
When s/he turned 13, Mirror woke up one day and Mom was gone. She never showed up again. The child has been looking for her for over 3 years now; thanks to his/her newly discovered second mutation - the ability to walk in mirrors - s/he searched through half of the continent from mirror to mirror, till s/he finally arrived to New York City.
Things changed there. First there was Rupert, who hated the kid to death, but still didn't shoot him, and in the last couple of months he became a substitute for an unknown father figure. Then there was Twyla, and Gawain got dangerously close to experiencing his first teenage crush. Then there was the School for muties, and even though it took Mirror a lot of extra rounds to convince himself/herself, with the help of others like Ghost-Maya, finally s/he moved in to the Mansion before Christmas, just after his 17th birthday.
And then there were dances, and friendships, and birthdays, and holidays, and big ass clay monsters, and drinks, and winks, and adventures to no end.
And the show goes on...
POWERS Mirror has two mutations: one is the shifting inherited from Mom. Mirror shifts gender automatically every night; one day she's Maya, other day he's Gawain. Same person, same mind, same attitude, same charm, ladies and gentlemen, it's just the gender that changes. The possibilities are endless. His/her main ability (and the one that s/he likes best) is mirrorwalking. S/he can walk in and out of any reflecting surface. S/he can also take over people's reflections and animate them while in the mirror. It. Is. Fun.
POSTS TO SEE The glass that looks - Mirror arrives in New York City, gets into trouble, ends up bleeding onto Rupert's bathroom floor who is not happy about it, and decides to shoot the brat. Is he really the cold-hearted mutant-hater he thinks he is?... (The saga continues in Prodigal daughter, prodigal son, where Rupert finally meets the Other Half...)
Jammin'-Walkin'-Prancin'-Dancin'-Feelin' SO Good - A girl names Maya meets a girl named Twyla. Both of them are hiding something, but that doesn't stop them from having a world of fun, including Chinese food and rolling around in a pile of autumn leaves.
Mirror, Mirror, Off the Ball - Sir Gawain's first experience with adapteds. Two of them. Both girls. Half naked. In a changing room. Uh-oh...
Maleficen't reflection - Sir Gawain walks into the life of one desperate single office supply manipulator via the bathroom mirror. He has nooo idea what he's gotten himself into...

Good luck Jax! We've missed you, and we're glad to hear from you.
Christmas, my birthday, and Calley are coming! So I'll likely be very distracted the coming two weeks or so. I'll probably be on the cbox, but possibly not posting much due to the aforementioned distractions.
