The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena smiled as the monster from the sewers returned to his manhole, with the promise that he would come and investigate the lair from which Serena had come from. She assumed that after living under the streets of manhattan for so long, he just needed time to process the information.
Serena looked down in amazement to see that her hand was still glowing blue, she felt a little more tired than she should do as well. She looked just in front of her and saw that the cube was still there, floating aimlessly through the air.
She lowered it into a near by pool of water and then released her hold on it, immediately, it was swept away with the current and mixed into the water, become diluted instantaneously by it.
She began the walk back home, a little tired, but happy that she had managed to control her power, even if she had been completely unaware that she had been doing so for most of the time, mixed with hope that Sylar would come and see her soon. She wanted him to see how wonderful the mansion was and that he could have a wonderful life there.
Serena smiled at Liz, yes, she was getting a little hungry too. She could eat... but then Serena remembered what she was wearing, lingerie was not exactly what you would wear to breakfast when so many other people would be there.
"I'd love to! But... Don't you think I should probably get dressed first?" Serena said, sounding at little embarrassed, she guessed that she wasn't used to other people seeing her in her sleepwear, her brother was normally out of the apartment going to work as she got up.
Serena felt a mental blush at the thought of going out into a breakfast hall, or wherever it was that they ate dinner, in what she was currently wearing... Then the mental blush, became a real one, she realised that her face felt hot, because she was starting to go a little red...
Serena listen as Regan explained who her father was, and smiled, he sounded like a wonderful man. She was glad that somebody had found and helped Regan, just like Tses had done for her. It warmed Serena's heart that there were so many caring people out there, who would stop to help someone in need, without a second thought.
"He sounds awesome." Serena said quietly with a warm feeling, reverberating from her voice.
Regan commented on how quickly Serena had picked it up and that she was a natural she turned her head to Regan and cocked it to the side slightly and grinned "Thank you! I've always been able to pick up on things relatively fast. I guess its one of my few talents."
Serena felt so at peace here, on a quiet, sunny morning, chopping dead branches off of plants and bringing life back to the once dead plants.
Serena smiled at Katrina's comment about their names rhyming. She saw a look on Katrina's face, as if she was busy trying to figure out the answer to a puzzle.
Then Katrina asked about her brother. Ah, she must think Serena was somebody else... She decided to clear it up. "I've been at the mansion a couple of months, and I USED to have a brother, he's gone now though." Serena said darkly.
Katrina began to speak about what she could do, Serena could swear that she was about to say invisible... that was interesting. There was something amise, the door to the blood drive van was already open and as Katrina approached it, the door swung open knocking her back.
Serena dashed forward to see a dark, hooded figure dash around the corner, with incredible speed.
Serena decided rather than attempt to catch someone who was much faster than she was, to instead check on Katrina. She froze, she was covered in blood. "Please tell me they didn't hit you harder than it looked and that you were carrying a blood bag..."
Serena was quite clearly worried, it didn't matter that she had only just met this girl, she was also from the mansion, she seemed friendly, and Serena would not allow someone who got injured near her to bleed out.
Serena nodded as Sam told her to call him by his first name and threatened to fail her if she called him Sammy... Then the elevator doors opened and they stepped out into a huge underground dome. Serena's jaw dropped. Since when had there been a gigantic underground dome underneath the mansion, and more importantly, why was it here?
Serena nodded slowly at his comment about all classes being held here. And then listened to his question "My older brother showed me how to throw a punch, that's about it, and I'd like to learn how to defend myself properly as I'm now alone, as I don't want to have to use my power." Serena explained.
She looked at him and decided to ask "By the way... wha... what is this place?" Serena asked, still astonished at this place being hidden underneath the mansion,
Serena nodded and smiled at Liz's reference to the 'popular' T.V show, in all honesty, most TV got on Serena's nerves, it was all Celebration who had everything handed to them on a silver platter and complained constantly about how hard life was and cried about it to the camera.
Serena thought for a moment about Liz's question and then gave a slightly sarcastic smile, "Toast, Scones and bacon with egg, all with tea... just to further the stereo type obviously..." Serena said slightly sarcastically.
She smiled to Liz "What about you Liz?" Serena was happy to have made a new friend, but she wondered if Liz was just asking about food because she was hungry and had decided to be polite to her new roommate.
Serena had decided that she needed to get up and do something positive, before lessons started, to get her geared up for them (god, she was going to have soooooo much catching up to do...) so, ironically, she volunteered for a blood drive.
More specifically, she volunteered to help with the red cross. She listened as the nurse explained how to label and organise the blood so that it could be distributed to the appropriate hospitals when it was needed. She found it interesting.
Serena hoped that she would not accidentally activate her power around so much blood. Although, reminding herself to think positively, it would in any case be good practice for when she was around blood in the future.
After the nurse finished and wandered off to tend to her other duties, the other volunteer with Serena (Who she believed was also from the mansion) introduced herself. "Pleased to meet you Katrina, I'm Serena." Serena nodded with a smile to Kat.
Serena turned to give the approaching man a friendly smile "Yes, I'm Serena pleased to meet you, you are Sam I take it? or would you prefer Mr Johnson?" Serena said politely in a sweet tone.Serena was glad he was here, now they could get on with things.
Serena smiled at his comment as he pressed the button for the elevator. "Yes, I've been here long enough. I'm really looking forward to the routine that classes bring." She was so glad that she wouldn't have to spend day in, day out, looking for something to do.
Serena gave a small smile again and turned to Sam. "Thank you for agreeing to come and teach me this. Although you did pick a bit of an odd hour..." Serena said playfully.
Serena had her arms crossed, she was tapping her feet, standing in a hallway, next to an elevator she didn't know of until the other day. She was relieved that it was finally coming around, this way she wouldn't have to rely to heavily on her mutation if she was ever in danger.
A few days ago Serena had realised that she probably needed to learn how to defend herself, because she was alone, without someone to take care of her all of the time and she really didn't want to get jumped or attacked and have her mutation activate and cause somebody to get severely injured... or worse.
So Serena asked around to see if there was anything she could do to change this. As it turned out, there is a teacher at the school named Sam Johnson, and he teaches self defense classes. So Serena sent him a message asking about lessons, and he had responded, telling her to wait by this elevator.
So here she stood, standing outside of the elevator, in the early morning, before most students were even up. Funnily enough, this would actually be Serena's first class... She had finally got her class list and would be starting in a couple of days, so self defense was technically her first lesson at the mansion.
Serena wondered what this teacher was like. Was he young, old, middle aged? Was he friendly, or abrupt. She decided that thinking such questions were sort of pointless as she would be meeting him any minute now... at 6am...
Serena had a peaceful smile on her face as Regan talked and as they both trimmed the plants. Serena was quickly getting the hang of it, she was just about keeping pace with Regan. She wondered exactly whom this 'father' Regan kept referring to was.
Serena turned slightly to smile at Regan. "Um, so when you say your 'father' do you mean biological? Or adoptive.... I was just wondering because there is something about the way you say it that makes me curious." Serena hoped she wasn't being offensive, but her curiosity had gotten the better of her.
She wondered if it was really Regan's biological father, as far as Serena knew, most mutants with very apparent appearances tend to get shunned by the communities they are raised in.
Serena nodded to Regan. "Ok." Serena watched as Regan slowly cut off the particular section and then explained it to Serena, She smiled at Regan. "Your really good with that! Where did you learn so much about gardening?"
Serena wondered what being raised in Ireland had been like for Regan, She kept reffering to her father in a strange way. Had he been a pastor or something? She wondered what it was like.
Serena smiled at Liz, even if Serena wasn't totally comfortable with it, Liz was still nice about it and had decided that it was a pretty cool power. Serena was still a little surprised that Liz wasn't creeped out in the slightest with it.
Serena wondered what Liz did in her spare time... that is when she wasn't waking up her annoying new, unexpected roommate, who was having a nightmare... Serena mentally face palmed.
Serena smiled at Liz's comment widely. This was something she could do with relative ease. Small talk. "I was born in England, lived there for a couple of years, then moved to Scotland for a couple of months, and then eventually I moved here, lived here for a few years."
Serena wondered about Liz. She had a plain American accent, so nothing exotic, not that there was anything wrong with that. "What about you?" Serena brushed her hair with her hand out of her face.
Serena responded with a smile to Regan "Yeah, I am. I hope the teachers are nice." Serena wondered what classes she would be starting with... She hadn't really had many oppurtunities to try art at her old school, she wondered if they taught it here.
Serena simply nodded to Regan's comment about it being a lot of work. It was the weekend and she didn't really have any other obligations so that was no problem at all.
She nodded again as Regan went and fetched her an apron so that her shirt wouldn't get dirty. Serena blushed. "thank you!" She hadn't been expecting such a lovely compliment.
