The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sawyer walked with her up to the school, it was hard to get a read on him. There were times that Fade wished she were a telepath, but then again, going out on dates would be horrible if she knew the man wanted in her life by the end of the night at just one sight of her. No, being a telepath would not be fun, actually. Maybe Sawyer would warm up as soon as his parents left. Perhaps he was only visiting, and he was going to leave with them at the end of the tour, that tended the happen sometimes if the parents were afraid the Institution was set up to brainwash all mutants into some kind of steroid mutants that butcher humans for freedom. Which was exactly why she hated doing the introductions and such.
The next question made her pause. On one side, she could say yes, that they did teach amazing self-defense classes so that they would not be harmed by any radicals and so they could grasp their power better, but some parents took that as a request to buff their child up; or there was the chance she said no, that he was fine, but the parents would question their child's safety. Double edged sword. "Sawyer will be able to chose what classes he wishes to take. We do have a class that teaches self-defense based on powers and non-mutated abilities. As for the other events. This school is unaffiliated with those mutant riots and such. If Sawyer gets caught in those, it would have been a choice of his own, not done by the school. This is a school for learning and developing, we do not encourage that sort of behavior," she said, stringing the words together as they flowed through her mind.
No, the school did not put mutants in those situations. The X-Men is a group of mutants who make that choice who live at the school and use it's funding, it's not run by the school really, it's more like a separate department. The small breakout of an argument left Fade in an awkward position. What should she do? "Sawyer, will you be moving in immediately with us?" she asked, hoping it was a yes so she could tell him to go upstairs and pick out a room while she finished answering any questions from the parents. She hated playing on both fields.
I joined this site when I had just turned 16 years old. At the time, PG-13 was the perfect option because it was a time for me to learn how to write with more creativity and yet not feel the pressure of not having experienced enough or seen enough in the real world to really grasp the R rated scene. Of course, to this day, I have never killed anyone, but I watch a lot more horror movies now than I did at 16. At that age, I would have preferred some kind of warning in the title to clue me in that if I do not wish to be offended by crude language, sexual activities or violent descriptions, then the easiest way was to stay away from that.
Those years ago, however, we had a bit less members and the posts stayed along the PG-13 and only made a short brief reference if anything too violent or sexual was done (then again, I may just be looking at the glory posts). Now that I'm older and I am guilty of coming up with quite the violent character, Ahorta, I have written graphic posts.
I think at this site, Speedman, we tend to cater to quite the vast majority instead of just a majority since we all value each other as a part of the MRO universe. I would say that a T rating would fit this site more. It wouldn't change things or make anyone feel like their posts are too low-graphic or anything like that. Instead, it's just a better description for the site as it has been.
One experience I had on another site was a Mature Board. Anything mature would be filed in that board and you needed a password to get into the board. In order to get this password, you had to prove to a Mod that you were 18 or older. However, as many pornographic websites have found, there are ways around this. Many people would make up a facebook and befriend the website as being older than they really were. Also, the Mature Board seemed to evoke a certain bar of expectancy for anyone posting in it. It was almost as if everyone had to use a curse word or had to describe blood and extensive amounts of details. The board seemed to be more of an NC-17 board as people came up with reasons to post in there.
Due to that, I am iffy on the Mature Board ideas. If anything, I would suggest a M on the front of a post or a thread if it's going to be for a mature audience. This way, there was a warning in front of the post to make sure everyone was aware of the nature of the post or thread and yet it does not make the posting of the thread much different because it still has to be toned down a little due to its unrestricted publication. I'd say for mature threads, it would be more like a teetering edge on PG-13 and R. Definitely not NC-17. I feel that by putting an M in front of the board or post, it will make the writer aware that even though they warn other people about the nature of the post or board, they are still held responsible if it is too graphic.
It's like giving a man a microphone and telling him he can say and do anything but he's standing in front of a lot of people. Its a smaller possibility of him stripping down naked and running around screaming curse words into the microphone, instead of being in a room all by himself with some energy drinks. In a way, the non-secluded, yet warned post would give the writer an opportunity to voice what they feel like voicing but only to the point that they feel like other people can view them as. I hope I'm making sense. Since all threads are monitored, I would say there should be a place where rp'ers should post a link for their M thread so the mods can keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't turn into a man streaking with a microphone.
It's just a thought. It's a little hard posting Ahorta's personality in a PG-13 manner. A 'T' rating would be easier to work with.
K. So here is what I have come up with. Lemme know if you need any changes done, I used my dad's computer for this one and i have more fonts on mine, so lemme know,
Everyone seemed to jump at the opportunity to answer what his name was. The boy crossed the name finish line first and stated that his name was Sawyer. Just like Tom Sawyer. Of course, Fade hadn't read the book but she saw the movie with that amazingly cute young actor, Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Whatever happened to him? He had given himself a nickname, which started a debate in Fade's mind on whether or not she should give away her nickname. However, the professional appearance of the parents told her that would seem a little immature for a mutant her age who was trying to tell them their son would learn properly at the school, to say she had a childish nickname. She could see why Sam liked real names more often. However, her real name was only connected to her business wise, or if she were ever caught by the cops back in the day. Not exactly the name she preferred to be called.
The use of her power made her feel a little nervous. She hated admitting people to the Mansion with a clear indication that it was full of mutants. However, sometimes, that was the best way to do things. His parents did not seem to mind, so she swung the gate open and waited for them to come in. "Well, nice to meet you, Sawyer, or Speedman," she smiled politely. A small inkling to laugh tugged at the corner of her mouth when she thanked her lucky stars he didn't call himself "Speedo". That would be funny!
He seemed just like any other teenager, a little overconfident. Who did not hit that stage in life? Where they were invincible and way too 'cool for school'. Eventually, he'd snap out of it. And if he didn't there was always the prospect of being an X-Man that peaked the curiousity of gifted young mutants. It most certainly got Fade to behave most of the time. If she acted up, she wouldn't have been admitted onto the team.
((my bad, I misread the last sentence of your last post))
The boy seemed impatient, very impatient. Then again, after watching him run around the school like it had a four feet circumference, she could see why things seemed a little slow. It wasn't as bad as one mutant she had met. He was so bad that he wrote notes to her because he moved to fast to talk at a normal speed. Well, this young one was a bit easier to talk to, although he had those teenage hormones that bored him when talking about business. Fade could relate to that. His parents seemed to be the ones who held the reigns for the boy. It always made Fade laugh when a child was flat out showing their powers and the parents explained with the word "Mutant". Silly parents.
"Oh yes, I can see he is gifted," she added, replacing the word mutant with a more positive effect. It was a little lame, but it boosted the children's confidence since they were called gifted instead of mutants. Plus, saying the Xavier's was a School for Mutant Youngsters would not exactly get them great publicity. It was a polical word as well. "He seems like he'll fit in perfectly here." she added.
He made a comment about how great he was as a mutant. Yes, those young hormones made kids feel invincible. When Fade had first come to the school, she felt as though she could never be hurt, and it only boosted her ego when she acquired her power of phasing. Yet all mutations could use some work. Her power nearly killed her once and its never been viewed as much of a suicidal power. "That's very fast, um, can I get your name?" she asked. She couldn't address him as Speedy Gonzales, some people were against cute nicknames. And some people... *cough* Fade *cough*... hated their real names.
"Of course, your son will get some of the best training in the country. He will have a dorm room, probably a room mate since he's still young and he will have his classes set out for him. We have classes for all the common world education, like math, literature, science, and history and then he will have help developing his power and working out all of the kinks. We have a pool, kitchen, game rooms, recreational room, a shower in his dorm room, and plenty of other great things about the school. As you can see, our grounds are quite large, so if you feel like running, you have a lot of space to do so," she said, turning to the Speedster at the end of her presentation.
"Shall we go in?" She asked, turning to the gate. Unfortunately, she always forgot the codes to get into the gate. Instead, she simply phased through the gates and placed her fingerprint on the inside of the gate so the alarm stopped sounding. It usually didn't take too long so it wouldn't alert the Mansion, but if she didn't do it fast enough, the security room would be made aware of her phasing through the metal.
Cabs in this city were getting more and more expensive. Sure, maybe she got some money from the Mansion, being a resident and some sort of a super hero and all, but it still made her groan when she could spend a fun night out on the town and spend just as much money getting back to the Mansion. She had been going out maybe three times a week, just a nice breather so she could gather her thoughts. She was a good girl, a very good girl, but she had a bad past. You can't always run from your past, so she would take a few nights off and go have some fun. She hasn't pushed the limits yet, hasn't stolen anything or ripped someone out of $200. She was getting more and more used to being this good girl.
Most of the time, she could make it back to the Mansion, but this time, she had spent a particularly fun night with some friends she met at a bar. Nothing single with a man, no, not this time, she hadn't actually done anything like that since Venus had swept her off her feet, but that was a secret. She got to take a shower, but she wore the same clothes. Fortunately, she wasn't one of those night people who went out in short little sparkly purple dresses. She enjoyed the torn jeans with a nice t-shirt, yes those were possible. It always made it better if she was stuck with these clothes when she came back, she could walk up in her tennis shoes, shirt and jeans.
The cab pulled up behind a nice, expensive car. There was a young boy and his parents standing outside of the car. He must be new to the school. Well, at least Fade's hangover had gone away a little after the soup and coffee she had at Panera Bread. She passed her money up to the cab driver. $58! Stupid city... She got out of the car and shut the door before the cab driver turned around and drove back.
"Hi, may I help you with something?" she asked, adressing the young boy more than the parents. At the school, their job was to care for the students and keep the parents happy with what they were doing at the school. It was time they got used to being the center of attention. Parents paid and the students learned. Plus, Fade had never been good at how to address parents, she didn't have any of her own, not any that she remembered. And the foster parents she did remember did not exactly live up to her expectation.
At this point, she had stepped in front of them, between them an the gate. It wasn't to scare them at all, but she wanted to get their names before she opened the gate. Speaking of which! Where were her manners? A quick mental note told her not to introduce herself as Fade to the parents. Most parents usually thought that someone who was old enough to help run a school shouldn't have little nicknames that related to their power. Though she absolutely hated her name, she introduced herself as that anyways. "Excuse me, where are my manners? I'm Jenny McCullen. I've been a resident here for about 4 years. I can answer most of your questions." Please don't ask me about finances though. Fade came as a homeless mutant, she didn't have any money to pay for school but they housed her and taught her how to read some, once she finally admitted she couldn't read, that is.
Chris said he was fine with Salmon, but by the looks of it, he would be a little picky with the salmon. "K, so then what about sushi? Or Red Lobster? Joes Crab Shack maybe? What sounds good?" she asked. She could get something hot from those places as well and crab dipped in butter sounded amazing at the moment. She thought of a few more seafood places but waited to see if he wanted to continue thinking along the lines of seafood. The iPhone rang and Fade clicked it on to hear the cab driver announcing he would be there in 2 minutes. She thanked him and hung up, pulling her bag closer so she could just jump in and get out of the cold.
The cab pulled up and she opened the door and scooted in. Guys usually opened doors for her but she hated the car door to be opened. Instead, she did something polite instead by scooting so the guy didn't have to walk around. Though plenty of girls have shaken their heads and said "women never scoot." Well, those women obviously didn't mind spending an extra minute just to get in the car because of some lame automobile traditions concerning gender. He asked her how long she had been at the Mansion and she had to pause on that one and think so. How long had she been there? Should she count the breaks she took or count it all cummulatively?
"I've been there for about four years now, on and off. I was there for a while, then I left because my boyfriend disappeared and I went looking for him. I returned and left again a couple more times, but I've accepted he's not coming back where ever he is and I've moved on. So now I'm at the Mansion for good, I hope," she nodded. Her lack of confidence on whether or not she would stay or not had been on her mind for a while. It was tough for a thief, such as herself, to just quit cold turkey. Those times that she left, although she did leave to look for Raph, she had turned to thieving through the duration of her Mansion absense. Hopefully, that behavior was completely weeded out.
The sight definitely changed things. The boy was too young to be shown this sort of stuff. Fade had been showed this world when she was much younger and it was not a very fun journey. She felt bad that Deathstar had threatened a knife on him. Now maybe that she saw how young he was, she would cut back some on the threats. But it only got worse. She grabbed him by the collar bone and slammed him against the wall.
"WOAH! NO! SHIT! GAH!" Fade exclaimed, her mouth gaping wide open. She rushed over to the scene and put her hand on Deathstar's shoulder, making sure she was touching clothing instead of skin. She really did not know how Star's powers worked but she knew she didn't want to get the butt end of it. Her grip tightened but she was ready to phase through any punch thrown at her. The fiesty blonde could throw a mean punch. "Deathstar! Stop this! Stop right now! Good Lord! Let go of him!" Teddy bears didn't have bladders, this one could actually pee his pants.
Oh yes yes yes. I gotcha. Ok. *swats self on head* Now is where I feel a little slow. Lenna's powers. Sorry, that's what I get for speed reading the wrong two posts, haha. Hmmmm, would you think that Lenna's power would rather make Ahorta's bones be more, well, boney instead of liquid? I mean, if that's the case, I could see us working it out. What do you think?
Would you care to meet the residential schizo? My other character, Ahorta lives at the Sanctuary but she's not a member of the Order yet. She's crazy though, so if you're feeling up to it, we can RP.
