The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The woman introduced herself, taking charge of the situation as most parents do. The girl hid behind her mother and tended to the sqwuaking brid hidden in the cage. Though Fade was not the Mansion Greeter, she had helped a few people get settled down at the Mansion. Shin stepped in half way through before and usually someone came along and helped. It was time for the redhead to get used to not waiting on others to swoop in and save her from the dreaded parents. If only everyonen just came to the school without the parents, then it was so much easier and much more casual. You didn't have to worry about how you looked or watch what you say carefully. Any wrong step with a parent was a bad step indeed.
"Yes, the office is right inside here," she said, raising her hands to show them inside. Deciding that her raptor claws would be a little much to show a prospective student's mother, she turned them invisible before bringing her hands from her back. Since she it was also unsettling to turn the entire nail invisible, down to the skin tissue, she left a light layer of the claws on her fingers, making them appear a graphite black. Looking a little dark was better than weapons or just plain skin on her fingernails.
Just as she worried about shocking the mother too quickly with her powers, her attention was redirected to the sky. A large shadow swept over her, followed by a partially crashing creature. It had wings and some looks of a bird, but with a tail. Fade didn't learn much about mythological creatures, so she had no idea what exactly was in front of her. It talked. There were some things that reminded her that she needed to get out around the Mansion more often. It sounded male, and it had an accent. Some sort of Scandanavian accent, but she wasn't quite sure which part. She searched her mind for a name to the mutant in front of her, but she couldn't come up with one.
"We have mutants from all sorts of backgrounds and powers here, and they're all quite friendly, I'm sure you're daughter will find making friends here is easy. Students practically fly in to the rescue when they see a new friend," she cracked a joke. Some parents were against that, and even more were against mutants flying in and crash landing in front of them on the first visit, first impression of the Mansion. She still searched her mind for the mutant's name, but she had no clue. There were still students at the school she did not know. It may be because she was neither a teacher nor a student, just a resident and a local do-gooder with the team.
It was a beautiful day out. In fact, so beautiful that the light from the sun had interrupted Fade's day to sleep in. Her bed had become the perfect oven and the sunlight spilling in through her curtains turned that oven to full blast. It was no longer an option to sleep in and she lazily got out of bed. Nothing seemed to need her immediate attention, so she spent a good thirty minutes in the shower, singing herself into consciousness. The day seemed to be quite a relaxing one, but she didn't feel much like being bored to death by such relaxation. With her wet hair dripping a trail where ever she walked, she threw on some shorts and a cute little tee-shirt.
She made her way over to the window to pull back the rest of the sundefeated curtains. When they had been pulled aside, a sqwuak caught her attention and she directed her focus to the path to the Mansion, where a girl and her mother were walking up. The girl was happily skipping, carrying something with a cover on it. Must be some sort of a bird. Curiousity caught the better of her and she figured meeting a new resident would be one way to start the day. It was either that or have a bowl of cereal. In order to never get out of shape, she decided to use her powers. With ease, she slid herself out the window, well, through the window actually, and used her claws to climb down the walls of the Mansion. It was a good thing the raptor claws did not cause any damage or she would have been kicked out a long time ago.
Parents were complicated. While some claimed to have nothing against mutants since their child was one, they usually didn't like a show from a mutant, so she turned invisible after she had phased through. Hopefully the mother didn't see her suddenly come out of her window. Some bushes were underneath the redhead when she finally made it to ground level and she kicked herself off the building and over the bushes. The landing was a little harsh, even caused a small roll, but she recovered and stood up. Again, trying not to startle the mother with her power, she walked around to the back as if she only just caught up with them.
"Hello, ladies. Nice day, huh?" she asked, her hands behind her back. While she had gotten used to not turning her claws invisible, some people found it a bit intimidating, so she kept it behind her back until she could prove she was a nice person and wouldn't use them against the mother and daughter. "My name is Jenny McCullen, are you a new student?" Referring to herself as her real name was never a fun thing. In fact, she hated it. The only people that could get away with it would be parents and of course, Sam, who believed everyone of the X-Men should be called by their birthnames. The thought had crossed her mind to legally change her name, but that would involve admitting her name is Jenny McCullen, and years back, when she was on the street, that was quite the pick-pocketing wanted name. So scratch that idea.
Luckily, the boy got the hint and he moved out of her body. It was always odd to feel something passing through her body instead of her passing through an object. He didn't run, what a brave boy. After an attack like that by a fellow Mansion resident, you would think he'd take off leaving a trail of fluff behind him. There were a few reasons why he would stay: 1. To see a fight. 2. To make sure Fade was ok. 3. Because he was too scared to move. Fade hoped it was the second choice. Being in the boy's shoes was much more frightening than she had anticipated. She had seen Deathstar angry before, but not at her. The black eyes bore into Fade's courage, tearing it to shreds. If Deathstar didn't settle down, she would have to phase through the wall again before her friend's powers kept her from doing so.
Just as she prepared herself to escape, Star's eyes blinked back to their normal color and she tuned into what was really happening. Her grip on Fade released and the redhead grabbed her throat and coughed a few times, pumping oxygen through to her deprived lungs. Deathstar backed up into the boy and grabbed him again, but not too violently. It seemed her rage had taken over and she had no clue what happened. She accused the boy of using another power of his to control her mind. "It was my power, not his. You know I can phase through anything, I took his place, you were going to kill him," she said, admitting that she had a part in the confusion.
Deathstar fell to the ground and started crying. Her family history seemed to be a little towards the evil side, but it didn't mean Deathstar fell in that category. Fade's cousins were Amp and Vibe, everyone had some evil in their blood. Then again, Fade didn't know too much about Star's life, Layla always hid that very well. "I think we're all crazy. The real question is: do you have the control to stop? And you stopped. You're not that crazy," she comforted her friend, kneeling down next to her. She placed her hand on Layla's shoulder blade but she wasn't sure just how much contact Layla wanted at the moment. "I mean, I have to be crazy to voluntarily be chocked by you," she laughed, trying to erase the memory of Deathstar's black eyes. Quickly, she glanced to the boy to make sure he was OK.
Shin rushed in to the rescue. Fade was old enough now to fall under the "no room mate, I got my own stuff" ordeal, though she had lived like that for quite a while longer. In fact, she never had a room mate. Since she came in from the streets and really didn't go through much schooling there, she got her own room, so she did not really understand how that all worked. Maybe she should have gone through school, but at the time, she just needed a dry place to sleep and some good food to eat, she was not concerned with anything else. Would she remain as an X-Man forever? Until she was older? Would she have gray hair and still be part of the team because she had no other options. She couldn't leave and go find a different career. If the Mansion fell, Fade would fall as well, unless she turned back to her illegal activities, but she was getting better at getting over that phase of her life.
Shin led them into his office. Seemed like everyone had a bit of an office these days, huh? If only they had some sort of recon office, Fade could feel right at home with that one. A little chair with wheels on the bottom and a spiffy light oak desk. Though she didn't like the paperwork to go with it. She nodded and took a seat next to him, most of her work was done, she was just going to see this all through. Mainly, she was interested in seeing how Sawyer would react once his parents left. Would he go crazy or settle down? Truth be told, after battling all those mutants over at the Order, really, kids were the least of her worries.
The parents seemed interested at the curfew, but Fade decided to let Shin handle that one. When she was young enough to have to follow the curfew, she was a good girl and didn't go out much in the first place, but it was always hard to keep an invisible mutant on a leash, especially if she could phase through it. However, she did enjoy turning invisible and walking around the Mansion at night, it helped her view the world from the perspective of kids who didn't want to be caught doing what they were doing. Most of those kids got sent to bed immediately, but it was amazing that kids thought they could never get in trouble because of their mutation, but they forgot the adults are mutants too.
Shin offered to give them a tour. Now that Fade was no longer alone, she didn't mind a tour. She could just walk in the back of the tour and look around, it wasn't like she had much else to do. But she hated actually having to answer so many questions without backup. Sawyer tried convincing the parents that they didn't really have to go on the tour but Fade was no longer on the 'get them out of here' boar, she was more on the 'I don't care much anymore' cruise. The parents did, however, have to catch a flight. It limited their time, but hours before a flight wasn't too bad, though what did she know? She had never really bought a plane ticket, stood in line or gone through security. She would just sneak in, best option for unlimited travelling for an invisible mutant.
Now that she was an X-Man, they got their own flights, so no security lines, walk throughs or tickets. It was a nice alternative to her old life. Shin did, however, take a second look at her for a moment, she wondered why. Did she look different? Her hair may have needed a shower but she didn't look that unappealing. They parents asked about living situations between the boys and girls. Another Shin question. Still, she tried answering the first bit, "Of course, the boys and girls are separated," she stopped herself from saying 'unless they are adults and have a significant other', "boys can't sneak into the girls dormitories and girls can't sneak into the boys dormitories." Maybe when the lights were on, that was possible. She and Raph always had time to themselves during the day, but they had been quite a nice couple, rather good together and innocent.
Shin and Sawyer entered the room together and Sawyer rushed over for more sarcastic comments. Though she was happy to no longer be alone with the parents, she really wasn't enjoying the sarcastic attitude and the lack of gratitude for the services the school provided. Oh boy, she had really changed since she came. Shin was visible from the location Sawyer once st-SHIN! Oh yes! She was no longer alone with the family. Shin was the mansion greeter so he could help with whatever she needed help with and she needed help.
What she feared was if the parents asked her for clarification on the paperwork and had her look at it. Fade had never been to school, well, not any further than young elementary school, so it was taking her much longer to learn how to read. Not only was she extremely slow at reading, she also could not really do anything with that low reading education when all the words on these documents were of legal limitations, she had no idea what most of them meant. She was so happy that she had some backup to help her out. "This is Shin, he knows just as much and more than I do about the Mansion and what we have to offer here. He can help answer anything I've left unclear," she said, hoping she didn't sound like she was bailing or that she was stupid. She stayed.
He brightened up considerably when she offered sushi. Mental note: Panera Bread vs. sushi, no contest to Chris. "Don't worry about it, sushi sounds awesome right now," she smiled. She had never tried sushi until she actually had money to pay for it. While she lived on the streets, she had money, but she never liked to spend that on too much food, especially if she smelled like homeless and ate like homeless and tipped like homeless Jenny would. As they pulled away, she noticed Chris watch the scenery leave. So he was one who looked behind him to make sure something disappeared instead of just focusing ahead? Cab rides could tell alot about someone.
The next question was one of pride, and also a bit of hesitation on her part. She had no problem at all telling Chris she was an X, but she did not know how the cab driver was. It really didn't matter, he didn't have her address or name, she would pay with cash. "Yeah, one of them. I was on the team back then with Tricity, Deltoid, and some others who have left since then. When I left and came back, there were a lot of new members who I didn't know. I've still been trying to fit back in with them. Though when we need to, we know exactly what the other team member is made of," she smiled. She remembered the time she was readmitted to the X-Men, when she first met Shawn and Sam, the sexy S's, but even with new members, her mind tended to trail to Raph. She knew she needed to move on, but it was always hard to forget him.
((are we gonna have a posting order? I'm not quite sure if Fade was supposed to exit yet))
The parents came up with every question to ask her and to every question, Fade had an equally nice pause before answering them. She was good at greeting people when they first arrived at the Mansion, but only if they didn't have their parents with them. Lucky Fade, she got the questioning duo. They asked her to put in a word with other staff to make sure the boy was watched. Lots of parents asked for special attention for their child, though this one was less along the lines of "my boy's so special, make sure he's safe and fits in" and more of a "please don't let my son get arrested". How comforting. "I will pass it along to the other staff to keep an eye out for him," she assured them. Maybe she might bring it up in conversation with other staff but it wasn't exactly on high alert in her mind.
"The students do play sports here, most have their own adapted versions based on their mutations so what you and I know as basketball is played a bit differently here. It's really all up to the students on how the want to play. We don't exactly have a team because, as you can imagine, we can't necessarily go out and play other boarding schools when our students have mutated advantages to playing these games. Though especially in the summer time, a lot of the boys can be found outside playing some hoops or running around the grounds."
She was not sure what to do next with the parents. "Any other further questions?" she asked. It wasn't that she was hurrying them out, it was just that she was running out of stuff to say that sounds appetizing for a parent. She supposed the closest thing to a parent she had would be Ghost and Sam. Sam, the ever leading manly man who had a talent for barking out orders, not like she minded following them, most of the time they were good ideas, and he sure was a looker. Then she remembered a mini battle between herself and Calley at the second KP battle where Ghost snapped at her for not following the team so closely. So maybe she deserved it, but she didn't want to hear it. Mommy Ghost and Daddy Sam. YUCK! I can't think of them like my parents! The thought immediately halted in her mind and she continued to walk to the Mansion.
Once inside, she brought them into the front room and pulled out some paperwork. It was standard, everyone had to fill out some kind of paperwork, even if they didn't know their social security (aka Fade), it was just so they were on file. Though Fade hated having a file that gave away her real name. Sam pointed that out when he randomly started calling her Jenny. "There should be some FAQs in there with descriptions and such. Then there is this paperwork that gives us all the legal documentation we need before Sawyer can live here. It won't take long at all, I promise," I hope is more like it.
Well what was Fade supposed to do now? Deathstar shrugged off everything she said and ignored the young boy's pleads for help. Strength wise, Fade was not that muscular so she wouldn't be able to pull Deathstar off of the boy without hurting him in the process. The lucky thing was that in a fight, Fade could be untouchable, but that would also make Deathstar angry and then put the boy in danger. All of this because of a teddy bear?! She hated to see the poor fellow who tried to send her chocolates to cheer her up.
Fade's mind raced as she pieced together what she could do and finally she had an idea. Quickly, she phased through the wall behind the boy and focused as hard as she could. She turned and faced the wall again, right where the boy would be and walked forward. Every slight chill on her body told her when she phased through something. Since she was a bit taller than the boy, she had to bend her knees a little bit to find the boy's neck. When she had matched her neck up with the boy's, she turned less than a centimeter solid right around her neck and pushed her face through his. In the end, Fade's body was partially sticking out of the young boy's.
Her chest had extended past his and every inch that was safely out of the boy's body had been turned solid. Oh god, I hope this works, she mentally cursed herself for not coming up with a better idea. Literally standing in the boy's shoes, she saw Deathstar's eyes change to black and she shouted out to let Deathstar know she was now in the spot of the victim. "LAYLA! If you use your power, you'll hurt me, not him. Let go." Fade's voice was firm, even though Deathstar's grip on her throat was tight, she was still able to bellow. Using her arms, she phased out of the boy's body and began to tug on his arms, trying to pull him completely out of her so he would not get harmed. She had never known what it was like to be hit by a power half phased into another mutant, but she didn't think it would be good.
Sawyer sped off without much hesitation. He did not seem like he was going to have fun at the Mansion. Then again, he didn't seem like he ever wanted to give it a shot. She didn't blame him. It took Fade quite a few attempts from the cop that could actually catch her to get her to check out the school. She knew the cop was just trying to help her, and come to think of it, it was probably one friend she knew she could count on in the streets. Everyone else was all about protecting themselves. Then again, if anyone came to her on the streets back then, she would have saved her own hide and left them alone. It was human nature. The Mansion taught her better morales.
When he left, the father turned to her and began the deep discussion. Oh great. I forgot parents feel their kids need special attention, she mentally groaned, hoping with all her might that they weren't telepaths. He mentioned that Sawyer got into some trouble in Seattle. Most kids his age did get into trouble, it was some sort of a natural growth stage. Still, she didn't know what severity of the trouble was, so she did not assume he was just guilty of hooking up with a chick or going joy riding in daddy's car.
"We have a full booted security here and it's run by very capable hands who are alerted if anyone sneaks off property or onto the property. Also, if there are any problems with theft, we do have residential telepaths, it's hard to lie when mutants that live her can hear your thoughts. Also, if it's any comfort, I can also turn invisible and enjoy roaming around when no one else can see me. I'll make sure if I see him doing something wrong, I'll stop him," she said, providing words of comfort. Keeping tabs on a mutant would be hard, especially a mutant who is much faster than Fade. It reminded her of the time she tried to spy on Kaz at the Order, he was too quick for her to keep up with. She was sure he would learn about the Danger Room soon, he would be quite interested in that. Still, she hadn't trained in a while, not since Silver Streak trained with her. She needed a refresher.
Oh yes, this one was quite the character. She wasnt entirely sure that he had listened to the conversation long enough to realize that Fade and his parents were talking about major riots. Still, his response was a little off from what she hoped. Usually, teenagers who thought they were invincible and the strongest mutant were usually stuck in situations with riots and such and it was up to the X-Men to save them when that happened. She used to be like that. However, when Fade came to the Mansion, it was huge, she had her own bed, she had food and a shower all for free. It was quite the stepup from the ceiling in the mall. The Mansion was amazing compared to being homeless. Then again, some people did not have that kind of appreciation for this place.
"It's actually really fun during the summer. We all go swimming, it's a great chance to meet everyone who lives here throughout the whole year," she said, trying to think of fun things to say that the parents would enjoy. Right now, she was selling it to the parents, not the kid, so most of the stuff she said were angled towards pleasing parents. She couldn't very well say "you can go out to the town when you feel like it" or "you don't have a bedtime", the only curfew he had would be the legal curfew. Nobody was forced to stay at the school, just many people found it more relaxing then going out for a fun night on the town. People could leave the Mansion, that was obvious by how Fade wore yesterday's clothes. Though she hoped no one thought so.
"Would you like to speed through the Mansion and look at it real quick while I give your parents the paperwork?" she asked. Man, she would hate herself if she was in his shoes. Honestly, she just wanted the parents to go. At the gate, she kinda hoped it would just be a "here's my kid, have fun" sort of goodbye, but it was getting harder and harder to come up with things that wouldn't spook a parent. Fade had never actually attended the school, really, she lived there and she did Danger Room simulations, but she didn't go to math class or anything, so she never really knew what it was like to be a student.
