The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aedus hopped up and checked on the Lobsters, they were turning red as he thought they should be. "Thanks for the reminder." He glanced in the pot at the Lobsters, they’d stopped resisting and smelled good, if seafood. Aedus went back and grabbed the plates. Setting them on the counter, He grabbed a pot holder and brought the pot to the sink. From there he got a pair of tongs and brought the lobsters out one at a time holding them up so any water dripped back into the pan. Once he was convinced that they were appropriately drained of access water he set them on the plates. Aedus brought the plates and set them at the table. He brought the butter sauce, salad and dressing, and they were ready to eat. He also brought over the paper towels. Eating Lobsters was a messy business.
He smiled, “Now the fun part of breaking them open and getting all the good stuff out.” Aedus was careful to make it easy to see what he was doing in case Noel wasn’t sure how to go about eating lobsters either.
Aedus was beginning to go on a rant, fueled by the annoyance in Noel’s voice. “I know! This world is crazy, apparently people can just decide they don’t want a kid because he is awesome these days. Other kids can jump another kid for being different and be encouraged by one of the few adults with them. He saved someone’s life and they jump him.” he closed and opened his mouth when she called him on stupidity, gathering his thoughts.
“I would rather be stupid than have just watched it happen. Though if I had known they couldn’t be reasoned with I would have just worked my way in from the outside.” Aedus grinned at the training part, obviously happy with himself. “Trained in necessity. I grew up here with people like that, who will fight you for nothing. So yeah, I can hold my own in a fight. Nothing formal, but I think I have good instincts. Also the guy wasn’t waving the gun around from the start I probably still would have tried to get the kid out of there though. But yeah, Chase got under a car, no one was shot, I hit gun guy with a Bat and Agnes summoned a lot of Insects stinging and otherwise, and that took care of the crowd. We got Chinese afterwards.”
He looked at the piece on the table. “ I might get something a bit more modern after I practice some, Revolvers are nice and Clint Eastwood and what not, but I don’t care for the reload method and from what I’ve read they have more kick then necessary.” He shrugged. “ And yeah I’d love to learn.”
Aedus hadn't quite planned for Halloween, So when he was told he needed to be on the street this Halloween. He had to throw something together, it wasn't hard at all to talk him into dressing up, it was a concept that he could definitely enjoy.
He didn't want to go out and buy something he could make, He had cardboard, foil and enough Sharpees to make it work. He was taking it old school this year, Cardboard robot. It was the way to go. Aedus turned around at the tap on his back moving in a clunky robot fashion. "I'm more a treat kind of guy myself, but yeah, we can play some tricks as well."
He hadn't actually intended on going up to the doors but he wouldn't rain on Kat's Parade either. Taking a good long look. "You look good!” He wondered if that was her mutation, If so it wasn’t too shabby at all. he didn’t however, want to make any casual comments about costume if this was something she could do everyday. She looked good as a foxy fox lady. “ And smart too.” He nodded to a pair of scantily clad heroines. “ They are going to freeze before the night is up.”
He looked at the homeless gentleman and hoped he was wrong and the turned his attention back to Katrina, “So, did Alister give you anything more than be on the street?" Aedus grinned. It was almost like they were being tested, weighed and accountable for their abilities worth. He for the record hadn't managed to find a blond to trigger his power, so he would just have to work that much harder.
Hey guys I am open to ideas. I would love to get as much fragile little human time in as possible before he upgrades to mutant. if you need someone fragile to push around, but stubborn enough to resist. or you feel like saving the day, come save Aedus from himself or others.
Aedus looked around his temporary cell and decided that seeing as nothing was going on another few minutes wouldn't hurt. he folded his arm beneath his head and began to doze.
As his eyelids shut his mind found an odd nearly forgotten memory of a cartoon. He was laying on the floor of an tall glass elevator. above him stood a green cartoon duck in a diaper. He reached for the elevator button and the duck smacked his hand away.
"You no push the button! I push the button." and so the duck did. "elalator go down the hole." He held out the last word dragging it with them as they plummeted toward the ground. Aedus's eyes snapped open as He heard the doors begin to open. The first thing he remembered beyond work gloves prying the doors open was a massive handle bar mustache, one of those mustaches that could be put in a calendar of eccentric facial hair champions. Aedus rolled to his feet.
"Why didn't you force the doors open young man? you look strong enough to have done so?"
"...I promised the operator I wouldn't apparently its dangerous."
"I've been doing this for decades, this how it is done."
Aedus let his head fall. He stayed here going in sane on a promise not to handle it himself. SO, much for not doing brash things and keeping promises to strangers.
Aedus looked at the meter and grabbed his wallet handing James the fair plus a decent tip, he felt a little bit bad due to the fact that He had heard the blood boiling thing...if only it had worked on that mob like it did on James they would have ran as fast as their idiotic legs could have carried them.
"are you guys any good with chop sticks?" The Irishman asked as he exited the cab. The Chinese buffet was pretty large and he understood why they called it empire, due to the three ridiculously large isles of food and the army of a staff the place employed to keep the food relatively fresh.
He held the entrance open for the pair and followed them in. Aedus entered the restaurant to find them greeted by a pair of young Asians one seemed to be the host and the other the waiter. " We need a table for three, three buffets with Drinks." He handed the hostess his debit card, a lot of the buffets did pay up front to ensure that no one dime and dashed. If they wanted to drink water it was up to them. The place was done up in an interesting mixture of classic Chinese decor and a trendy tech look, he imagined it is what Hong Kong would be styled in, culture meets cutting edge. regardless if that was accurate or not, it was a good look.
The waiter showed them to a table and then started setting out their silverware. "Please, enjoy our buffet." he then turned and left them to their own devices.
He stood on the tip of a mountain, but this mountain had a large angry mouth that glowed red. He peered into it and was mesmerized by the too hot glow of molten rock. A voice rumbled below and in the deep baritones of the best teacher he had ever had, his seventh grade mythology teacher Mr. Dronns voice spoke as the lip of the mountain moved as it spoke, Aedus precariously balanced on the edge.
“Volcan, Volcanus, Mulciber, Sethlans Hesphestus, master of the flame, the god of fire, good and bad. They used to Build pyres in my name, tossing live fish and animals into my heat, to persuade me to let their crops go unscathed. Flamens would hang their clothes in the sun and start their work only by candle and by my leave. You know the tale boy, of how my mother tossed me from the heavens upon seeing my face. You know the tale of how she only wanted me back once I was useful, what did that get her a trap in a chair, that’s what. But she got the last laugh, yes they gave me a wife for her release, but She was fair as she was unfaithful. Remember, it well boy because that is your fate too, your reward will come with barbs and your presence will be unwanted until you are useful. None the less you will wear my mark.”
Aedus rolled to the side and his feet fail to the elevator floor with a thud waking him from the dream. Ever since he had learned he was to be a mutant, a lava mutant, or an obsidian mutant…an elemental shifter. He’d been having crazy dreams. Gods had talked to him; he was trapped as a statue in a museum. He repeatedly was fired from a volcano like a clown in canon at the circus. It was sickening, he wanted to hurry up and get the power so he could learn it was all going to work out. It was going to work out wasn’t it? Not like he had much of a choice, he had to have power to stop the apocalypse…it wasn’t all on his shoulders, but what if he played a key role. What if the rat girl did, and his role was to protect her?
Aedus slouched on the floor of the elevator; he had thus far leaned on the wall, sat on the rail, knocked out a ceiling tile and hung from the ceiling, He had done pushups, sit ups, pull ups, he’d done Yoga. He had played Tetris until his cell phone died. He tried to make a game out of three coins, a paperclip and a pin. The best he could manage was trying to spin all the coins at once and then try to flick them with the pen; he got extra points for making them hit the paperclip when he hit the coins.
He waited and waited and waited in various positions and done various things to keep his mind entertained, he just wanted off the elevator, he promised the emergency operator he wouldn’t climb out the top, apparently the worst accidents happened that way and if he could just be patient and wait he would definitely survive, if he tried to force his way out or climb out of the roof, it might not go so smoothly. He thought he could make it, but He had promised he would wait. He sat down with his feet toward the ceiling and his back to the floor; it would have looked natural if he was rotated ninety degrees one way or another. He was on the verge of taking a nap when the elevator phone rang.
He picked up the receiver and warily answered “You Rang?”
“Heh, Hey Mister, we’ll have you out soon, ok? what level are you on?”
“ok. I’m in between the fourth and fifth floor.” He didn’t have to look; He’d been staring at it for the better part of three hours.
“Alright, Like I said, have you out in a jiff.”
“K, Thanks.” Aedus Calmly hung up the red receiver and wondered how long it took to get out of a jiff, how one got in a jiff in the first place. And why for the love of all that is good that he didn’t take the stairs, he typically took the stairs if it was less than five floors. He was just as fast as the elevator in a clear fire well stairway, he didn’t have to wait for anyone getting on or off, no chit chat. And he most certainly did not get stuck between floors. This was almost enough to make him always take the stairs.
Aedus huffed out a sigh as he waited and began to doze.
Hmmmm, it wasn’t out right outrage that he would help a mutant but at the same time it didn’t sound quite approving either. But she didn’t quite get the situation either.
“The mutant in question is about eight and saved another kid from getting hit by a car,it doesn’t seem like he has a real advantage power wise or anything, the kid Chase saved and about twelve maybe, fifteen others were jumping the boy so I dove in. The guy with the gun was encouraging them and he may have not taken it too well when I told them all I could boil their blood. I was trying to get them to leave the boy alone, when I bluffed he pulled the gun and I took him out. I can’t by the way, boil anyone’s blood, just so we are clear. Anyhow luckily for us, another actual mutant showed up and sent the rest of them on their way.” Wow, that’s not at all messed up. Telling her that he thought of boiling their blood. Nope, that screams sane. Maybe it was the fact that she was so at ease with the gun. Could that have been why he felt like he didn’t have to pull punches?
Aedus nodded to the request, pleasantly pleased that he managed to prepare for her tastes. He hadn’t figured her for a Diet Coke, but he’d drink the rest someday if she didn’t. He brought the drinks to the table. Went back and opened a drawer and pulled out the lone claw cracker that he had, it worked on nuts to, though he never thought to use it for its actual use he held up the tool. “I only have one of these, so, we’ll have to share. Thanks for cleaning or starting to clean my gun, I guess I should learn that too.”[/coral] The last was said with a look of admiration, He wouldn’t be putting that back together without help.
Aedus listened as the experts went back and forth. Katrina seemed to be of the same mind as him, that you didn’t need blondes to mutate, for his part he didn’t mind the development. He wondered if Katrina was from the same school as Agnes.
“ A tour would be nice, but it looks like we have some remodeling to do first.” If you are going to get wet, you might as well swim. If he was going to joining them, he was going to do it like he did everything else.
He would have to ask Jude exactly how he came by his powers someday, He was fairly sure that something cheeky was a foot and the way the man winked seemed to say it was better not to say in front of the fairer sex. “Oh, I see.” He didn’t. I have to say, I’d be willing to try my best to help as I am, but I don’t quite know if I am up to doing much against someone capable of starting the apocalypse. Let me know , if you figure out how your other option might have helped me. Actually, Could we look for it, or do you need time to cool down?”
Aedus pulled out a pen and wrote his number down on the pieces of band aid paper, twice ensuring that they would both have one. As for the numbers he needed, he put them directly into his phone. “I’ll be sure to keep a look out for your text. If you guys are just doing this for the night I could come back after I let them know this delivery was completed.”
“The guy I took it off of was Worse.” He shook his head as he said it. Well now was as good a time as any to find out if she was racist or not. “Some guy watching as a bunch of punks picked on a harmless, no; I take that back a heroic mutant kid. I stepped in and relieved him of the piece.” He was playing the situation down, but it might not be a bad idea to bring up chase anyhow, the kid could come by whenever. He’d have to keep that in mind if he had a hot date, or something that was a bit more mature than Sesame Street planned.
His eyebrows rose at that question about sleeping lobsters. He had his phone in his hand again in a second. “ It didn’t say so, but yeah you can put them in as it warms up and I guess their last moments are a bit more peaceful.” He didn’t look too bothered by it. “Ouch, sorry guys.” But it didn’t stop him from apologizing anyway.
He nodded and smiled. It did look pretty good for how little effort actually went into it. “I figured, if we were going to do lobster, we might as well do it right. Next time I can treat you to microwave, anything. That and going out to eat is what I typically survive on.” She seemed to want to make it clear that it wasn’t a date earlier so he skipped any attempt at pulling out her chair or what not. He glanced at the table. “What did you want to drink? I’ve got pretty much whatever.” He hesitated by the small kitchen, grabbing a Soda for himself.
“I don’t think you can go wrong with a Panda, a King and an empire involved.” Aedus nodded sagely.
Aedus grinned at the good news, it was a good sign that he was invited as well; a cult or kidnapper wouldn’t let some random guy come with them to see the school would they? He doubted it, unless they were going to kidnap him to. “I appreciate that Agnes.” As if it weren’t obvious.
Aedus met the young man’s eyes looking down and to his left to ensure the young man knew he had his full attention. “Unfortunately, or fortunately for them, I can’t. I was trying to bluff them; they were all so ignorant, that I thought they’d go running for the hills. A few of them did but not nearly enough. If I could have I probably would have heated them up enough to let them know I wasn’t messing around. Luckily though cooler minds prevailed.” He winked at Agnes and pat Chase on the knee, trying to signal for him to leave it alone.
James looked relieved at the answer apparently buying it. Though Aedus did notice a little bit more urgency in his driving, as If they had just offered a better tip for speed. That was fine with him though, Chinese was sounding really good.
“Of us? That’s all I got. You, me, amused on the coach and watching.” He said with ease. “The rest, well I got glimpses of some other stuff. for instance that job that Ms.leaner mentioned. I’m going to get it, at the very least I am going to wear a lab coat into Faust Pharmaceuticals at some point. Other than that, my future holds some odd twists I would have never seen coming.”
“I won’t refuse, if you really want to, though I’d prefer to think of it as information sharing between friends than paying and paying back. Either way, I’d like to know how to do it properly. I recently got hold of a revolver, I helped out a kid in a tough spot and ended up taking the gun off of some guy that really shouldn’t own one. Anyhow, I don’t really want to own one if I haven’t trained properly with it. It’s in that side table over there if you want to take a look, and don’t worry it’s not loaded.”
Aedus stared at his phone momentarily, while he put a large pot on the stove and a little one next to it. “According to this article, it looks simple. Boil some water, submerge the lobsters head first. Let them boil for about fifteen minutes, they’ll turn bright red. For flavor melt some butter and add lemon to it. when you are eating them you dip it in the sauce. “
While the water was working on boiling Aedus rinsed the lobsters and avoided their knives, He melted and mixed the lemon butter suace. He put together a simple salad in a bowl, lettuce, cubed tomato, sliced carrot, croutons, a little bit of shredded cheese. He presented three different salad dressings and a plethora of drinks, soda, juice, water, wine, beer.
Aedus set the table as Noel observed, readying their meal for consumption, so far they weren’t getting much studying done, but the night was relatively young.
“That’s one way to look at it, but what if the reason it happens is because it was shown to me? Besides when I was looking for stuff I thought might be useful to us, it fell off the shelf and hit me on the head. I’m pretty sure if it happened the same way without me knowing, I would have realized it was a good idea. If you don’t want to though, we don’t have to. You seemed into it when we were watching it though. Besides, if this is true than maybe some of the other possibilities are true to.”
He nodded to the lessons. “You don’t owe me anything for this, I want to. Shooting lessons would be great, but only if you want to.” He then shook his head at her. “You got dinner, let me cover this?” He held up the bag of feisty lobsters. Being a gentleman today meant allowing the lady to let you be a gentleman, today’s woman was fiercely independent when she wanted to be and you had to let them be unless you wanted to be ungentlemanly in order to be a gentleman.
After they sorted out the cab fare he pointed out the entrance that they needed and escorted her to his apartment, It was a one bedroom with a tiny kitchenette, an ample living room and decent sized bathroom, it was more than enough for him. The whole place was done up in shades of autumn, reds, yellows, browns and oranges. He hadn’t realized his love of autumn colors stemmed from the fact that it represented the death of trees for the year, before they sprang back to ominous life.
