The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Strolling down the sidewalk in the middle of the night in 4 inch heels and a strapless cocktail dress was not what people considered normal. Especially this close to the Sanctuary when you looked like a human. But Seyta was still a mutant and walking was allot faster than getting a cab to a club. Funny how getting to a nightclub was always the hard part. She never had to wait in line to get in, always sat in a VIP booth, never paid for her drink...and never got a date. Sure Seyta was pretty enough, she even got the occasional grin and nod from across the bar but that was it. So, like most nights when she wasn't working Seyta found herself cutting through back alleys and such heading for a place to get a relax and pretend to have a good time.
Seyta wasn't exactly paying the closest attention to her surroundings though as she made her way to the club she had chosen for the night. This lead to not realizing which alley she had ducked into to get to the next block, when she looked up from the pavement she saw what she first though was an Ostrich in the low light. Half a second later she realized it was a dinosaur, a real, living dinosaur. Seyta then noticed the dog it was following, towards her... "Oh s***!" Seyta yelped and ducked behind a stack of boxes. It looked like the Jurassic Park version of a velociraptor, she knew those were scaled up for the movie but that's what came to mind.
Her mind raced as she huddled in the false safety of the boxes. Had it seen her? Was it a mutant? Was it close enough for her powers to protect her? She dared a peek out from her cover to see how close she was to the creature. She couldn't give an exact distance but it was outside her range, that much was clear. That meant after it finished with the dog, she was an available target. Even if it was another mutant, Seyta looked human, and couldn't exactly prove her powers to them in defense if they attacked her. Her options seemed slim, Seyta couldn't fight it. Running would be too risky, her heels wouldn't help that either. That left hiding there and hoping it walked into range long enough for her power to take effect so she could slip past it. Seyta tried not to whimper as more scenes from Jurassic Park about pack hunting flashed through her head. Please, oh please let it be alone...
>> "Well one day you might learn to control it though sadly i have little knowledge of music. "
Glad for Aura's help with her cuts Seyta gave her a quick smile then frowned thinking about how much it would cost to fix her tattoo after the cuts had healed. The wings were expensive enough the first time, and she couldn't go to the same place in Salem so getting a cheap redo was not an option. "I hope so... right now music is just the occasional street corner for me. The real money comes from my job at Lord&Taylor, not allot though."
>> "...If you like, after we are done here i can make some calls. Maybe staying next to one of them for life might be odd, but perhaps they could provide you with a few hours of relief"
Seyta nodded thinking it over. If Aura's friend could help her at least a little bit, that was fine. She still though Aura's opinion of her power was odd. Seyta hated it, wanted it to end forever...but it was what she had hoped for a long time ago. Not this mutation specifically, just being a mutant. Seyta was in a small group of the mutant crowd, shunned by humans and other mutants and they never realized they did it.
>> "She lives at a mansion for humans, that promotes humans and mutants working together, they care a little more about one's criminal record their which is why im normally not aloud on the grounds. Sanctuary takes any and all mutants, without question. Actually i met the lady i mentioned, when she accidentally hit me with her car, even with my aura the impact put me in pretty rough shape. "
Seyta chuckled slightly hearing this, getting hit by a car wasn't good but still, meeting two people by running into them was a little silly. Still, getting help from someone to break through her mutation was a good idea. As for getting to the mansion, Seyta had some history of petty theft and vandalism... but no record of anything. Combine than with her powers and all Aura needed to do was make the call and Seyta could waltz on in. "Sounds like a plan. Hopefully it will weork out to."
>> "We all have our gifts to help us a long our path, and to help others. The police, well.....they use those people....you know that rescue people from hostage situations. A lovely lady who is not noticed could save many lives, mutant and....human if they wanted"
Seyta heard the change in Auras tone about the police and humans. She understood the reasoning on both sides of the fight between mutants and humans. Even back home, in a mutant dominated town, her parents had issues even though they were mutant rights supporters, just because they were human. "A life is a life. Doing something like that would be a way to fix the gap between humans and mutants. Although, you mentioned being a spy, that sounds like fun...if I knew what I was doing. -she smiled rolling her shoulders as the last bandage was put on and fixed her shirt, smoothing out some wrinkles then turned to Aura grinning slightly. "Before we do anything else though, you owe me some ice cream for running in to me still."
Seyta looked around the foyer of the Sanctuary as she headed for the bathroom. The place was bigger than she expected, a cross between a church and a mansion. There was a welcome desk, a few couches and tables, strangely inviting. Stepping into the bathroom Seyta set her violin down and used the mirror to check her back for any cuts. Frowning, she saw two across her left shoulder blade, they were shallow but the scrapes went right through her tattoo. Getting that redone would be annoying, it had been long enough since she got it that fixing the scrapes would mean redoing the entire set of wings to the shade of black matched. Rolling her eyes at them she called through the door. "I wan't to hear more about this friend of yours, but I need a few band aids first... and some help, I cant reach the cuts on my back."
"About your friend, you said it was a radius thing, so only people a specific distance are effected, like my power. Seems like a possibility, but having to stand next to the same person for the rest of my life would get weird." She chuckled thinking it over, the idea of it would get very awkward. Still, it would be helpful, in a few situations at least. IF someone can get Seyta noticed she might be able to actually start her music career, might be able to have a life outside of her borrowed VIP access to clubs where she never talked to people. In Seyta's mind, mentioning Aura's friend had almost completely cleared her of the wrong doings from before... although she still intended to make due on the ice cream scoop she had seen.
>> "...and so my responses to humans like that can be aggressive"
Seyta listened politely, Aura had been through allot for being so young. She felt sorry for her actually, not an uncommon thing for Seyta though. Going through that sounded horrible. Why people couldn't just realize mistakes and get over themselves frustrated Seyta to no end. Wars had their place, but the Nazi-like feud between mutants and humans was pointless in her mind.
>> "...an excellent spy for example or a good field medic. People can't pay attention to you if they don't know your thare?"
"Maybe, but I want to be a musician, load of good this power will do me. Since I can't control it I can't turn it off." She grinned thinking for a bit. She wasn't a fighter but Aura made a good point she would do really well given the proper training. She toyed with the idea in her head for a bit but shrugged it off, who would she work for, with her ability she couldn't even get a job as a spy. Being a medic on the other hand... no she couldn't do that. Definitely not her thing, the smell of any kind of doctor stuff, was just gross, all that sterile stuff. "Nope, even if they do know im there, once they get in range, if they aren't paying attention in the first place they never will unless i do something to get it. Waving and saying hi to them isn't enough either, I need to be drastic, lie making them tackle me."
>> "Still sanctuary gets those with all sort's of views on humans and...... Actually i know a mutant who might be able to help you out, her power is to make our powers not work. The effect is only a radius thing, but it may make you more comfortable"
Seyta nodded listening as she stepped into the Sanctuary, the light glaring of the golden doors for a moment. That same feeling of a dark mood that needed to be brightened came over her. She nodded to Aura looking intrigued at the idea of someone canceling out her powers as she headed for the bathroom Aura pointed out to her.
Seyta listened to Aura explain herself. She didn't seem too bad, though looks could be deceiving. The fact she was a mutant made a difference to Aura as well, Sey could hear it in her voice. Still the obvious dislike for humanity was annoying, as was humanity's dislike for mutants. Her own family advocated for mutant rights even though they were all human. She nodded slowly thinking Aura's statement over and shrugged. "True, but we've caused issues for them too. It's not an even match, but what most mutants are calling defense is just proving humans opinions of us."
Still listening Seyta counted out what money she had made and stuck it in her pocket, 13 dollars and 18 cents, not the worst she had done. Either way she still had her paycheck coming in this week, this was just a little extra pocket money. Shouldering her case she looked back to Aura, unsure what to expect from her as an apology.
>>"Please come with me, If i have prevented you from gathering money, i can compensate you, or at least give you a place to clean up. I Live at sanctuary. Can i ask what your power is?"
"Thanks, I could use a few band aids..." Seyta jumped back a few feet as she saw Aura form an axe followed by a sword, she relaxed seeing the sword turn into an ice cream scoop and smiled. The girl was smart, a little rough but smart. "That is a good apology, as long as you have chocolate raspberry. As for my power..." Seyta rolled her eyes glaring at the world, God, Darwin, whoever was to blame for mutations. She sighed shaking her head. "I'm a blank spot, thats why you ran into me. Unless you're trying to, you can't pay attention to me, it really sucks. Honestly I'd rather be human than stay stuck with this power."
Seyta realized standing in front of the girl was a mistake as they collided. Whatever that aurora like power was hurt as Seyta fell back hitting the ground allot harder than she has expected. "S*** that hurt!" Groaning as she sat up she looked herself over, a few scratches and the beginnings of a nasty headache but otherwise she was fine. Her violin on the other hand... Where was it? Seyta suddenly became aware that she had dropped her precious instrument and completely forgot the girl for a moment as she searches the sidewalk. Finding it just behind her Seyta sighed in relief as she checked it for harm. By sheer luck it had landed on the chin pad and tuning keys, relatively easy and safe fixes. Picking it up and turned her attention back to the girl just in time to hear her speak.
>> "I am sorry. How hard did I fall?"
"Not as hard as me thanks to your personal lazer show there..." She scowled slightly taking the girls hand and stood up. Wincing slightly as she rolled her shoulders Seyta decided she needed a bathroom to check her back for any scrapes as well.
>>"My name is Aura, and yours?"
"Uh-hu, Aura... You make the two dumb***** run into me, ruining my music, then you tackle me to the ground and expect to just smile and make it all better?" Seyta's scowl deepened as she crossed her arms staring at the girl. Hopefully she could bluff the girl into submission in someway. She really didn't want to be on the receiving end of whatever happened to the two men.
>>"I am sorry i ran into you, i did not see you their....which is unusual. Are you a mutant?"
Her scowl softened slowly, something about being right outside the Sanctuary with this girl, and the way she asked is Seyta was a mutant made Sey think twice about pressing her luck. "Call me Seyta, and yes I am. Also, you might find it unusual, its daily life for me." She sighed looking at Aura. She wasn't about to press her luck again but Seyta wasn't going to let Aura just walk away from ruining her otherwise pleasant day. "Knocking me down isn't what I'm all upset about kid. Seems to me that those guys were running from you, so... It's your fault my performance was ruined, and sorry doesn't really cover that in my book." Seyta walked over to where her violin case was kicked and picked up her few earnings there and put her violin away. Turning back to Aura she raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms waiting for an answer and hoping the few seconds to get her case wasn't long enough for her powers to clear her from Aura's mind.
Seyta glanced around the street as she knelt down clicking open her Violin case. There was a moderate amount of foot traffic, not as much as she would like, but enough for a few bucks if she was lucky. Of course there was probably less people because Seyta was only a few feet from The Sanctuary's front steps. It was a safe place for mutants though, nothing wrong about it. Personally she thought it was a good idea to have the place, but the building style, the golden doors gave it a strange feel. That made it the perfect place to play of course, a good place to add some musical flair.
Rosining her bow Seyta quickly tuned her violin. A few passerby's looked over to her with a hint of interest but the look faded as they got in range of her powers. Seyta shook her head frowning at her own worthless ability and started playing. Even the people in her range turned to look at the music, if only for a moment or two. After all its not normal to hear Cliffs of Dover on violin. Her frown changed into a smile as she fell into the swing of the music and people listening dropped a few dollars in her case.
Not being one to stand still as she played Seyta meandered in a small circle around her case. This put her back to the golden doors of the Sanctuary. She didn't see the two men burst out and run down the steps towards her, or the rather angry girl who followed them. The violin screeched as one of the men shoved past her and kicked her case several feet in his mad dash to avoid the girl. "Watch where the hell you're going ***hole!" Seyta glared as she turned around seeing the girl running after them. She looked familiar from somewhere but Seyta couldn't place it. Planting herself right in the girls way Seyta tucked her violin under her arm for safety. The girl would probably run straight into Seyta thanks to her powers, not the most effective way to get attention but it worked. "I'm guessing it's your fault those two just ruined my performance?"
Hey, I need some help getting Seyta going here and am stuck in the mud thinking up my own ideas.... Seyta will go for almost anything, nightclubs, concerts, awkward seating on a crowded bus. So anyone wanna post for her please???
Seyta looked up at the man over her paper. He had spoken to her; at least she thought he did. How did he even know she was there? He was in range of her power, seeing the paper in his hand told her he was probably long enough for them to take effect as well. It didn’t matter though; he would be affected soon enough. She marked her place in the paper, an article about Faust Pharmaceuticals, and took a moment to look the man over. Native American, some good features, his hair was a bit long in her opinion though. Altogether not unattractive but he looked like he was trying to hide behind his paper, shy was not her type.
At least there was someone to help her get past the light. Well, he would be helpful except that he was on the same side as she was with a broken crossing signal. So far no-one else was really out on the streets, not going their way at least so there wasn’t much she could do. She thought over the options, keep waiting for another person on an empty sidewalk, hope he realized the light was broken on his own, or get his attention and tell him. She sighed rolling up her paper and gave him a somewhat forceful jab in the shoulder, more than enough to annoy him never mind get his attention.
“Lights broken buddy. Either run across or we both stay here until someone else comes.” Please let him be smart and run across, I don’t like waiting here in the cold. She unrolled her paper but held it down still watching him. Her eyes were stern, not angry but defiantly not the kind you want to mess with. If he crossed she had to be right behind him, if he stayed… then things got more complicated.
Seyta got back to her apartment trying to juggle keys, groceries and open the door at the same time. Propping one leg against the wall she balanced a bag on her knee and the other two in her left arm as her right fiddles with the key to unlock the door. Getting the door open she shifted the bags in her left arm to her right intending to grab the one from her knee, problem was shifting them knocked it off balance and it fell to the floor with a satisfying crack of bad karma.
“Typical… I better still have some good eggs in there.”
The groceries mocked her silently as the broken eggs began to soak through the paper bag. Quickly getting all the bags inside her apartment she put everything away checking the eggs. Karma might hate her but luck didn’t; only four of them had broken. It still meant that she had to go back out though; her cookie recipe would use half of the eight she had left. That could wait until tomorrow, for now she just wanted to get the cookies made and worry about more eggs later. After about an hour the fresh chocolate chip cookies sat on a plate ready to be eaten. Grabbing three of the fresh cookies Seyta went down to the lobby taking a quick check for any mail she cared about, not seeing anything interesting she stuffed it all back in the box for later before heading back outside.
Munching on the cookie she walked briskly down the street. Today was going to be boring, she could tell, she didn’t work and was drawing a blank for her song writing. A good movie might give her something to do, if she could find one. Mulling over the options she stepped up to the crosswalk and hit the signal button. It didn’t change, she hit it again but still it didn’t change.
Great, the light’s broken… and I can’t jaywalk through this much traffic. Not with my ability. Strangely the sidewalks were empty so there wasn’t any calling for help. The next cross street was two blocks down; she really didn’t want to go that far out of the way. Stuck waiting for a light that was never going to change left her annoyed. Not willing to walk all the way around her best option was to wait for someone else that drives would notice and not get run over. Looking around Seyta saw a newspaper machine next to the signal post. At least she could read something while she waited. Checking her pockets and purse she swore inwardly, no quarters anywhere.
“The eggs, the light, and now I can’t buy a ****ing paper. What did I do to make today suck so badly?” In her ever darkening mood she made a quick check for traffic cameras, not seeing any she picked up a fist sized chunk of concrete that had broken off a building. Taking a good swing she brought the concrete to the glass on the machine, one free newspaper for her and no-one around to care about it either. Leaning against the light post to wait she flipped through the paper; hopefully she didn’t have to stand there very long.
