The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "Oh, I guess back to Sanctuary. D-do you know of the place? D-do you have a place to stay?"
Seyta nodded, its wasn't far from there to her apartment, and she knew two people now who lived at the Sanctuary. "Yeah, I know where it is. I kinda live near there actually." Either way, Seyta could easily stay the night no matter where she landed so there wasnt going to be any issues. Although if she stayed at the Sanctuary she would need to get someone to find her a room, unless Amber here, or Aura would be willing to let her stay with them. If it came to that hopefully neither one would mind a 28 year old Woman sharing a room for the night.
>> "Your power can't be all bad though. Surely there must be something you can like about it?"
Something to like about it... Never paying for drinks, if she ever got one, Always sat in the VIP booth, and nobody ever cared. There where things to like about it but there was always a down side to those. Aura had given her an idea though, one she might pursue if she knew how. "Not really, I take advantage of it for a free something every now and then...well, more that that but I've only had one good idea of using it but I have no idea how to do it." She still had to talk to Mama at the Mansion but getting back in touch with Aura about being a spy would be a good idea once they got to the Sanctuary. "A girl from the Sanctuary gave me the idea actually, maybe I'll see her again there."
>> "Well today they got you Ice cream and a friend and even some relief and shiny rocks. Now that i think about you probably saved my tail, i was asked to refrain from taking out humans in public and had i not run into you"
Seyta nodded, she wasn't going to ask why Aura was told to refrain from things. Probably for the best as well. The new friend though, and knowing how to get some help with her powers was defiantly a good thing.
>> "I can't drive but i can guide you through the city to the mansion"
"Sure, Its probably faster than following a map." She had to admit, knowing where the mansion was and how to get there where a bit different. Thats when she saw the skunk. By the time she realized it was a skunk her powers had set in already and she was safe from any bad habits it might have.
>> "I don't think ice cream is meant for cats. This is Solkat."
Seyta nodded slowly watching Solkat sample Aura's ice cream. Aside from the oddity of Aura having a pet skunk it was rather amusing to watch its reaction to the cold. "Uh-hu... Thats a skunk, not a cat."
Central park. A nice place, good for making a few bucks with a violin. It was also the fastest way home from Work for Seyta. Luckily the weather was nice enough for the walk. The few coworkers she talked to always though she was a bit crazy for coming through here at night though. Muggers and mutants hiding in every bush. None of that was a problem for her, the man up ahead of her though did have such a problem.
The mugger stole the mans wallet and ran towards her. AS he got in range of her power she did a quick coin toss in her head, let him pass or intervene and possibly get a reward of some kind. Rewards were nice, especially in her position. Help the man it was. Stepping out in front of the mugger she braced herself, seeing how big he was the thought better of it and knelt down aiming a fist for the male sweet spot. Seyta didn't know a guy could scream that high. Seeing the wallet he had dropped as he fell over she picked it up and turned to him. "See, this is why you ask nicely. So s*** like this doesn't happen when you get caught." Seyta emphasized her statement with a hard kick to the muggers gut.
Walking over to the original victim of the night she dropped the wallet on his chest crossed her arms and waited. She wasn't sure what she was waiting for but then again Seyta wasn't sure what to do after a fight either. "You're welcome... I guess." there, not she wouldn't seem like she was waiting for something...hopefully.
Seyta follower her mother up to the receptionist and waited. The woman gave her mother a please wait smile as she finished up a phone call. Seyta looked at her mother and rolled her eyes, if it wasn't for her Seyta would be waiting here forever. After a minute the woman hung up the phone, looked up and smiled again.
>> "How could I help you Ma'am?"
>> "Karen and Seyta, I called for us to come see Pam." her mother replied.
The woman nodded and handed over a sign in sheet. Seyta and Karen both signed it and followed the woman who took a moment looking back and forth between them and the signatures until she realized Seyta was there. Leading them out to a patio she leaned down to an elderly woman sitting in a rocker.
>> "Pamela, your daughter Karen is here. " She turned to Karen before walking back to her desk. "Just call if you need something."
While all this was happening Seyta had already taken the seat next to her grandmother and rested her hand atop Pamela's. Karen looked at Seyta, waiting for a sign that it was ok to break the silence. Seyta gave her a quick nod and leaned over laying her head on her grandmother’s shoulder. The old woman barely even shifted in her seat from the touch. Only looking up when Karen spoke.
>> “Pam, how are you doing?" Karen smiled pulling a chair over and sat down across from Pamela.
>> "Oh. Karen, how nice to see you.” Pamela grinned back. “I’m doing well dear thank you…” Seyta stared longingly at Karen as she talked with her grandmother. They talked about trivial things like the weather and playing cards. She didn’t care what the topic was though, Seyta just wanted to tell her grandmother hello. After a while her mother brought the conversation around to Seyta’s music. This made Pamela’s eyes light up. Seyta had planned this, her one connection to her grandmother, her violin. Sitting up she opened her case and pulled out the instrument delicately and began to play, Music of the Night, the first song Seyta ever learned. It was the only song her grandmother remembered her playing.
>> "I wish she could come with you to visit, I can almost here her playing now..." Pamela smiled closing her eyes and nodding in time with the song.
"She heard me, she doesn't know it but she heard me." Tears filled her eyes as she played glancing at her mother who nodded in response. This small, indirect touch was the closest Seyta would ever get anymore. She would trade everything for her grandmother to open her eyes turn to her and tell her what a wonderful piece she performed, but it wouldn't happen. To Pamela, Seyta was still just a girl learning the violin too busy with school to come see her. To Seyta, this moment was everything that ever mattered. For all the pain and tears it caused it was worth it.
>> "The lady goes by Mama, she had another name as well, but im not much for names like that. If ya wnat i can go to, they might not notice you but i atract attention"
"Mama? Oh-kay..." The name was odd but that would make it easier to find the woman.
>> "Ask for the one who cancels powers if you go alone, they will know who you need."
Well that made things simple, Seyta liked simple. Walk in, ask for help chat a bit and walk out. A good solid plan once she had the time to do it. If Mama really did cancel powers then it would be worth the trip. If not, then she would figure out what to do then.
>> "Does your power work on a guard watching through a security camera? I ask becuse the mansion has that"
"No, even if they were in range the screen isn't me. But I doubt I'm going to look like an issue to them anyway." She tilted her head thinking for a bit. She never did worry about security camera's but they all had blind spots for those few times she was a bit over the line. Since she wan't causing any issues though there was nothing to worry about. "The only hard part will be getting whoever I ask to find her for me." She faked a grin as she ate the ice cream. That was harder than she wanted it to be. IT could easily cause a scene and since Seyta didn't know what the Mansion was like she didn't want it to reach that level.
>> "Your power must make things lonely for you"
Seyta looked up and nodded. "Yeah... always will be." Her mind drifted to thoughts of her grandmother but she caught herself and quickly became very interested in her ice cream. "If they had a better use then I might smile a bit more but we deal with what life gives us."
>> "I'm Amber, n-nice to meet you Seyta. I d-don't do well in the daylight. I'm an albino. So I usually come out at night to, you know, escape the world and s-stuff."
Albino? Seyta didn't know people could be albino. Either way it almost sounded like Amber would want Seyta's power. Something she couldn't imagine. Seyta hated it, always had and probably would. Although the chat she had with the girl in the sanctuary did give her some encouragement about using it for something.
>> "It must be nice to be able to disappear sometimes."
Seyta tilted her head and shrugged "Not really. Not when you always disappear, even when you want to be seen." She didn't even try to cover the anger in her voice. If she could Seyta would trade powers with Amber in an instant. Someone else could have them and Seyta wouldn't even blink at it.
In the middle of all that Seyta looked up for a minute suddenly realizing that she was blindly following Amber and had no clue where they were going. Getting lost was a bad spot for her since getting help in finding a way home would be near imposable this time of night. She could stay at the sanctuary though if It got too late, at least it was easy to find from where they were. On the other hand she rented an apartment for a reason and Seyta liked using her own bed. "Um, mind if I ask where we are going?" Seyta mentally slapped herself for getting distracted by some kid and getting lost in New York. She didn't hold it against Amber, it was Seyta's fault in the first place but annoying all the same.
>> "Oh, I was j-just curious is all, what your power was."
Seyta nodded slowly, of course thats what they wanted to know. If they lived near they sanctuary it was obvious that they wanted proof she was a mutant. Proof was of course confusing. On another note entirely though, the girls accent was not middle eastern. So the chances of her being Muslim as Seyta had though were much lower. That meant she didn't have to worry about being offensive either. "Ever played Where's Waldo? Thats me basically. You got a first hand experience while you were getting dressed even."
Not the best explanation but it wasn't easy to explain. Seyta barely understood it herself and she had her powers for about a decade. She knew what her powers did, more or less, but not the faintest clue how. This girl had it easy frankly. From what Seyta could tell she had a clear cut and simple ability. Something understandable and easy to explain. "Call me Seyta by the way, mind telling me your name? And for curiosities sake, why a young girl like you is waking around this late at night?"
Granted the girl had a power that made her more than a challenge in a fight but still... From the sound of her voice she couldn't be much older 17... possibly a bit younger. There where plenty of unsavory people who sulked in the alleys on New York. Seyta's powers kept her safe but most people would have to plan ahead for a situation like that. Of course this was sanctuary territory, here the girl was probably about as safe as Seyta would be in any other alley.
>> "Well she's a counselor and she is quite kind. I don't know how she did it, but somehow she kept me out of human hands, so i believe she cared for those around her. SHe lives at the Xavier mansion. She seemed to find it strange i ate a squirrel...or was it a racoon?"
Seyta chuckled, not entirely sure if Aura was serious about the squirrel/raccoon. But at least she knew where to find this friend of Aura's was now. The Xavier Mansion, she knew where it was even. Now she just needed to get there and find this person. Without a name though Seyta would be stuck. Making it pointless to go to the Mansion in the first place. She name a note to ask her for it to go over there later to get some help.
>> "My power lends itself to direct combat and so i know little of spying myself. Only that they gather information and sometimes kill key people. I only know that nature has a role for each of us and gave us our powers to help us with it."
The comment made sense to Seyta but Aura herself didn't. Perhaps it was how Seyta was raised, but t seemed odd. Granted Salem was an oddity in and of itself in the world already but mutants where just another oddity and easily pulled into the already slightly offset town. There wasn't a clear line between mutant and human for Seyta. There was always a mutual lively hood back home between the two groups. the occasional scuffle happened sometimes but it was usually resolved quickly and relatively easily. Aura did have a much more difficult past though. Enough for Seyta to recognize where the dividing lines came from. But she didn't think they where needed.
>> "You can order whatever you like here, the hall is fully caterd, Mutant staffing of course."
Seyta nodded, waiting for Aura to get her ice cream first. As soon as she turned her back and ordered Seyta rolled her eyes. There goes this conversation. It wasn't a sure bet, but since Aura had taken her eyes off of Seyta and turned her attention to something else all thoughts of Seyta were likely gone. As Aura had her ice cream handed to her Seyta promptly leaned over the counter took the container out of the servers hands and helped herself to a spoon then followed Aura to a table and sat across from her. Going through another explanation of her powers was not on Seyta's list of things to do so just taking all the ice cream was the first option she chose. "Thank you for the ice cream by the way. Also, I need to know your friend's name if I want to find her."
Seyta turned around as the sound of rustling clothed stopped and was replaced by footsteps. Seeing the mutant walking away she realized her powers had taken effect and the other mutant didn't notice Seyta still standing there. Doing her best to catch up in her heels Seyta Called out. "Hey! Dino person! Over here, turn around." Given the rather quiet nature of the night the mutant was likely to notice her voice but Seyta continued to attempt to catch up to them.
As she drew closer Seyta managed to get a better look at the other mutant, sort of. It was difficult to see much about them due to the large mass of fabric her clothes consisted of. It reminded Seyta of a Muslim Burka even, perhaps that was the other mutants religion? Either way, one thing Seyta could tell is that the other mutant was a girl, the robes couldn't hide that. Anything else was impossible to tell though. Finally catching up she reached out to tap the girl on the shoulder but hesitated. If she was Muslim, as the robes suggested, that would be offending her wouldn't it? Then again she may just need the robes because of some other part of her mutation. Deciding not to chance it Seyta stepped up beside the girl and waved speaking up again. "Um, hi. I'm still here. I think you wanted to talk to me?"
Seyta raised an eyebrow at the mutant, did they just ask her to follow them? Thats what the gesture seemed like. Generally that was a very bad idea, there where people who would easily try to take advantage of a woman like Seyta in this situation, but she had an easy escape plan if it ended up like that. She nodded slowly and moved closer following the mutant. They where in range now so if things did go bad Seyta could just walk away.
The way it had chirped at Seyta though made her thin it was not hostile, atlesat at the present moment. That was a good enough reason to follow for now. Getting to know another mutant wasn't a bad idea. So she followed the Dino mutant, most likely some form of shifter. She had no idea where they where actually going but as long as she was in range it wasn't an issue."So, I guess you're a animal shifter... or dinosaur shifter?" Seyta tilted her head questioningly, until she had reason to slip away she was going to keep their attention. Even though the conversation was one sided it was necessary to keep the other mutant from forgetting her there and walking off to do whatever dinosaurs do.
Seyta kept close and resisted a slight urge to pet the mutant, those feathers just looked like they needed it. Either way she followed the mutant back to what looked like a pile of bedsheets at least partially hidden from view. Clothes? That made sense to Seyta, why would clothed change with the mutant shifter? This brought another thought to her head, was this mutant a man or a woman? Several slightly disturbing images flashed through her head before she took a few steps back and turned around. "Ok, I'm going to just let you um, yeah whatever..." She chuckles dropping her head to her hands. This was definatly one situation worth remembering if she ever got around to telling a funny story.
Seyta took a step back at the trill but relaxed again seeing the dino-mutant stand up strait, thats what it looked like anyway, and fluff out its feathers at her. She almost chuckled at this, What little she knew about animals would make that be one of two things. Trying to look bigger and scare off an enemy or, if dinosaurs where related to birds as scientists claimed, it was some time of mating dance. Neither one of those options seemed likely since this was a mutant not a real dinosaur...but how much of the mutants mind was in control? Well there was an easy way to find out. "Ok um, shake your head or something if you understand me and aren't going to eat me. Cuz it's really weired standing here talking to a dinosaur."
All thoughts of her other plans that night had left Seyta's mind as she stood there waiting for a response. In hind sight this would make a really funny story to tell friends, if she had any that she talked to on a regular basis. A not so funny part was that she didn't know anything about this mutant and they didn't know Seyta was a mutant. That was a very bad situation in this neighborhood when the opposing mutant wasn't in range of her powers. On top of that, Seyta couldn't exactly prove her powers to a skeptic either. "And I'm a mutant so no need to get upset about me being here...."
Seyta's voice held firm confidence now, a complete bluff but she was good at that. The conversation here was definitely confusing but it could be worse. Even if she was human it was obvious that she was hopelessly outmatched by the other mutant. So the confidence had to be because she was telling the truth right? She waited and tried to plan her next move. Not an easy thing to do when the person you are looking at has no readable facial expression.
Seyta stared out the window of the train as it rolled along the track. The one day trip that she took once a year was always the best and worst day of her life. The five hour train ride was actually the easy part. She sighed thinking about the day before...
--One day earlier--
BZZT BZZZZZZZT BZZT. Seyta rolled her eyes as she finished off the shipment checklist for Lord&Taylor then fished her cellphone out of her pocket and checked the message. It was from her mother, she blinked, her mother almost never called or texted her. It was short simple and Seyta had to re-read it a few times before she realizes what it said.
>> "Are you coming up again?"
Again? what did she mean again? Seyta sent a message back asking what she was talking about and went back to work unpacking the shipment. Why would her mother ask if she was coming up to visit? It didn't make sense and she guess her mother had simply sent it to the wrong number. As her phone went off again she opened it saying her expected reply out loud. "Sorry sey, wrong number didn't mean to bother you."
>> "Tomorrow. Thats the day you go up there isn't it?"
Seyta stared at the text in disbelief. She had forgotten... The most important event in her life and she had forgotten. She quickly replied that she was and that her mother was the only one allowed to join her as always. The rest of her shift was finished in a fast paced blur. Seyta had to get things ready for tomorrow and so she rushed through everything. She literally ran home as soon as she had clocked out for the night and went online to buy the earliest train to Boston in the morning. So at 4 a.m. Seyta got up, grabbed her violin and ticket then headed to the train station.
----------------------------
Thats where Seyta found herself now, sitting on a train to Boston. She checked her phone for the time, two hours left until she arrived. Two hours until she and her mother went to visit. Two hours until the most important thing she could do and it was still completely pointless. She wanted to go home, but she also wanted to go visit. Trying to focus one something else for the remainder of the trip she pulled out her violin and wiped it down with a polishing cloth. It wasn't needed but it was a distraction for the moment.
Eventually the train pulled into the station. Seyta walked out on the platform and scanned the parking lot. Seeing her mother she waved and headed over, Seyta gave her a quick hug and kiss as she got into the car happy to see her again but here eyes where tearing up already about why she had come. Aside form the radio their car ride was silent, there wasn't anything to say. Twenty minutes later they pulled into they pulled into the parking lot of Compass on The Bay. Her mother broke the silence first as she turned off the car.
>>" Ready hun?"
"Yeah, lets go." Seyta whispered back wiping her eyes dry for a few moments. Walking up to the nursing home almost made Seyta turn around and drive back. This was the real reason she hated her mutation. Her failed music career, her lack of a social life, issues with work. They were all just inconveniences. The real reason was Pamela Alic, her grandmother, who had Alzheimer's. Seyta's powers on top of that made it imposable to have any contact with her grandmother. That was also why she was here now, visiting her grandmother, once a year to spend some time with the most important person in her life. Even though she would never know Seyta was there.
Seyta gulped trying to stay hidden behind the boxes. The situation really was bad, and getting worse. She shivered hearing the dinosaur screech at her and saw the dog run past her out of the alley... It did see me. Great, now what do I do? Running was still the worst option other than fighting, and since she had been seen hiding was pointless in all honesty. Why was she even hiding in the first place? Because she looked like a human. Seyta was a mutant though, and in Sanctuary territory.
Rash action wasn't her style in most cases but this was one that called for it. Going against her better judgment Seyta pushed herself up from hiding turned to face the creature, half holding her arms up in surrender. There was no turning back now, she was completely at, what she hoped was, a mutants mercy. Given her attire and not even carrying a purse it things went south, she was going to join the long list of unknown New York killings. Swallowing hard she forced a shy smile. "Um... s-s-sorry I didn't mean to um, bother you... Please don't kill me."
Despite the lack of light Seyta was able to get a better look at the Dinosaur now. No wonder she thought it wan an ostrich at first, it was covered in feathers. But the eyes, they proved to Seyta this was a mutant, so it could probably understand her. Despite still being terrified of it, trying to talk her way out of this was now a possibility. Glancing over at the shiny row of teeth, she swallowed again since it was likely going to be a one sided conversation. The downside to that, she had no idea what else to say. Great, this was suppose to be a casual night at the club and instead in stuck here in a staring contest with a dinosaur This new though landed a firm hold in Seyta's mind. Pushing against her fear now was a sense of annoyance. Annoyance that just happened to take this alley and run into this mutant. Annoyance that she had been scared into hiding behind a box like a little kid. Annoyance that the first time her power was actually helpful it wasn't going to work.
After a few moments Seyta crossed her arms and let herself succumb to her new emotion over the fear. Tapping her foot in mock impatience she kept her smile up and waited for some kind of response from the mutant. If it attacked her she wasn't going to be a defenseless coward. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that and They both could get on with their lives.
Seyta shrugged, is wasn't surprising Aura didn't like stores, especially a high end clothing store. She was probably the only mutant who worked there even. They weren't anti-mutant but they didn't exactly welcome them with open arms either, unless they had money.
>> "Im sure it will work out, their rather kind there. Well you do have the perfect power for spy work. Back in the woods we had a lady with a precognitive sense, she could sense things before they happened. Though Not while she was sleeping, she was the first to die, mortar to the chest"
Seyta flinched slightly hearing about the precognitive getting killed. "I'm... I'm sorry to hear that. But thanks for the compliment." Seyta picked up her violin case and sighed wanting to bring up a better topic. Seyta didn't know anyone who had died and she didn't want to talk bout it either. Letting her thoughts drift back to their previous topic was easiest. A power blocking mutant was someone Seyta really would like talking to.
>> "If you like, Sanctuary has a supply of it, or we could buy it from somewhere, or just hijack an ice cream truck, still if we buy, is this enough?"
Seyta's eyes snapped open seeing the gems. Seyta could buy a full set of recording equipment with that for her violin. On the other hand, given what little she knew about Aura, they probably had a bit more history than the things Seyta got with a five finger discount. But since the Sanctuary had ice cream she didn't have to worry about where those gems came from or went to. "I think we can just use what you got here at the Sanctuary. While we do that, you can tell me about your power blocking friend and how to get in touch with her."
Seyta chuckled hoping to set a positive tone. "As for spying, I would need some training and honestly, I don't have a clue about what I would be doing. Still, sounds like fun if you wanted me to give it a try."She was a bit surprised at her own interest in being a spy. Maybe it was the possibility of actually using her power for something instead of just having it. That still left her with the issue of why she was a spy and who for.
