The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. These last weeks had been hell! Not only was there the stress of trying to get a year’s worth of studying memorized for a single week of testing, but on top of that, it had put a serious cramp on her alone time with Rebecca. The last that day they had together was when Rebecca went with her to her audition for Julliard, and since then there have been nothing but issues. Studying, roommates, exhaustion, all of it had added it to mean that Agnes had little spare time to have with her favorite girl in the world.
And it was hell because of that.
Thankfully, though, they would at least have a LITTLE bit of alone time. Though the entirety of that time would be spent studying, at least she hoped she could sneak in a kiss or two, at least the two could finally have a conversation that would last beyond just yawning and sleepy eyes. So, Agnes knew now that the old adage of “beggars can’t be choosers” could not be truer. At least she would have some time with her girlfriend, right?
Still, she wished and willed that time would move faster so that it was past finals already. It was just cruel torture to be sitting across the table from her girlfriend, her nose pressed into a book of poetry.
Argh! Poetry! She really hated poetry. Not Rebecca’s poetry! No! She loved everything that her girlfriend wrote, but all of that made sense at least! The poems that she was assigned in her literature class was definitely not the same. It was old, it didn’t make sense, and sometimes sentences were broken up at parts that she knew could not have been grammatically correct! Why was this considered classic?
Agnes truly had a hard time trying to wrap her mind around all of this. It was just too much to bear anymore but, she knew that if she wanted to graduated, she needed to complete this class. So far she was barely managing to hold onto her B in class and she needed to keep her average up. She was going to pass this class or die trying! That was the reason why, as silly as an idea as it seemed, she managed to corral Rebecca into locking herself in with her in the library. So long as they were not in their rooms, they would not succumb to distractions! Surrounded by books, they would be fine.
Dressed in loose, flannel pajama bottoms and a large black night shirt that she purchased for herself (mainly because it make Rebecca giggle when she showed it to her), her pinked socked feet idly flexed as she looked into the pages of her book. All the lines of the poetry were beginning to blur together when that sweet voice of her girlfriend spoke up.
>> "So... how's studying?"
“Hmm?” Agnes blinked wearily as she finally lifted her gaze from the book and stretched, arching her back just a little to try and crack her sore spine. “Bah, all looking like Greek to me, “ she mumbled. “My literature instructor wants us to write an essay interpreting a poem and it’s going to be on the final, and…I just can’t make heads or tails of it.” She grumbled before she sighed and rested her chin in the palm of her hand as she eyed Rebecca from across the table. “How about you? The words blurring yet?”
>> "E'en if ye didnae say it, Ah think Ah already knew, deep down.
“I guess…heh…I guess I always knew too…” she whispered.
The grin on Agnes’ face was of such a magnitude that she really didn’t think it was possible for her to produce a smile like this. It was like literally hearing the best news ever in her life. And considering the type of life that Agnes had, that said a lot. To really allow herself to feel this happy, this energetic, to have her guard down this much, it was nearly impossible for Agnes to have ever felt like this before. At least not in a very long time; not that any moment that she could particularly remember.
Maybe that really was what love was all about. Was finding those moments with a special someone that truly made you feel as if no other moment in your life could possibly live up to it. It made the most sense because Agnes felt her happiest when she was around Rebecca and that was what love was all about, wasn’t it? Finding someone that made you forget the world.
Agnes was on such a cloud of joy that she feared she would actually drift away if she didn’t keep her hold onto Rebecca. Her heart sang, the world seemed brighter, and suddenly she didn’t feel as afraid about what she was going to go through right now. She had the best thing waiting for her after she was done; whether she succeeded or failed, Rebecca Grey would be waiting for her, a woman that she loved with all her heart.
The leaned away from each other, reluctantly, but the time had come. Agnes felt a small pang of anxiety, but one look at the young redhead was all she needed to keep her wits about her. She smiled took a breath.
>> "Now go! Ye hae an audience to wow in there…Ah'll be here waitin' tae celebrate when yoo're done. So go... be amazing."
Agnes smirked as he leaned over and gave her another quick kiss.
“You better be waiting,” she said with a small wink.
Tears stung the corners of her eyes but they were not tears of sadness; they were those that only the happiest of moments could be able to conjure up. Quickly she wiped them away as she took one more calming breath, glanced at the school, and then back to Rebecca. Leaning over she kissed her cheek and wrapped her arms around her, hugging her tightly.
As she let go, she sighed and nodded. Turning on her heel she marched to the school…it was time to get this over with…
Agnes was nervous. Well, that was a bit of an understatement, she was completely and ******* bricks! She really was considering just grabbing Rebecca’s hand and bolting from the large, music school and running all the way back to the mansion without looking back. It was certainly looking like the best option so far simply because Agnes was too scared about what would happen if she had failed in this whole endeavor. She didn’t want to let Rebecca or any of her friends now, but mostly, she didn’t want to let herself down.
But what would let herself down more…trying and failing? Or running away without ever knowing for sure?
Her mind was in turmoil as she stood there, willing herself to either step forward or to run away. That was the worst part of all this because she simply could not make a decision. She could learn to live with either option if she could just do one of them but she really was at a standstill. Then she felt Rebecca move. The young redhead gripped her shoulders and leaned in, giving her a kiss upon her lips.
Agnes kissed back and sighed a little as she felt the real tenderness that was there. It made her heart soar a little to know that Rebecca really did care so much.
>> "Agnes, ye are a brilliant violinist, an' et's not coz of yer skill on th' strings... ye play with heart, an' you hae th' purest heart…Yer heart... it sparkles. E'en after th' dark you went through, ye still shine. You were th' light that called out tae th' lost girl an' helped her see what she was.”
She could feel her blue eyes welling up with tears. She really was not used to praise but this was even bigger than praise, it was real adoration. Agnes sincerely cared deeply for Rebecca and it was displays like this that made her blush quite fiercely. Pale cheeks flushed a deep red as she tried to keep her embarrassment under control but it was quickly proving to be a lost endeavor.
>> "Th' first song you played fer me...Ah could hear yer heart in th' notes. It was probably that first night… when Ah started loving ye."
Agnes blinked.
…
And then she blinked again.
Did she really just hear what she thought she did?
>> "There's yer push; gae show those professors that heart Ah love sae much."
The smallest twinges of a smile began to uplift the corners of her lips. Rebecca had actually told her that she loved her? It was at that moment that every bit of tension that had wracked throughout her body began to melt away. Suddenly she was feeling freer, more uplifted, her body was loose and wiggly and it took every effort she had to keep from collapsing into a heap on the ground. It was like receiving the greatest gift that her heart had ever wanted, yet she didn’t know how to express it.
Should fireworks spark out of her heart? Should she leap for joy and bound around in circles? Should she faint? Agnes was at a loss for what to do. And then Rebecca leaned up to kiss her again and Agnes softly wrapped her free arm around Rebecca’s waist and kissed her back just as deeply. When their lips finally parted, Agnes pressed her forehead against Rebecca’s and tried to find her voice.
Eyes closed, comforted by the blackness tinged with red, the young runaway took a shuttering breath before she whispered, as dotted tears began to dot her cheeks.
“I…I…I love you, too,” she finally managed to shake out with a nervous laugh. “I’ve…been trying to say it for so long. But…you beat me too it…”
>> "Ah jist dae what Ah can tae make ye happy… Ah'd dae anything fer th' lassie Ah--"
Agnes had smiled the whole time that Rebecca was talking. She felt so comfortable having the young redhead pressed against her, her head resting gently on her should and the feeling of having her arms wrapped around her. She loved it. She loved her. Agnes knew that, well, at least part of her knew that. It was easy to say it in one’s head but vocalizing it, putting out there into the ether of the universe was far more difficult. Sometimes the voice waivers, the body fights back, the heart beats too fast to hear one’s own words…
…but right now all she felt was calm and serenity. Maybe…maybe it was okay to actually say it outloud? Maybe she really should just risk it all and actually tell Rebecca how she felt? No…that was crazy. Especially right now! Right when she was about to go in for her Julliard audition? It was madness! Besides, she did not want Rebecca to think that she was saying something like out because it was blurted out with nerves. It should be said sweetly, tenderly, and—
…what was Rebecca going to say? It was only a split second but it was enough to catch the runaway’s attention. Unfortunately there was not a lot to go on because quickly Rebecca had switched subjects…
>> "--oh my, Julliard es impressive, huh?"
Agnes would have thought on Rebecca’s sudden change of topic but glancing around behind her and she soon found herself stunned. Rebecca was right, that school, it certainly was very impressive…and terrifying at the same time. That old fear wanted to creep back in and seize her heart, but the young insect queen managed to hold it back a bit longer. They were here and she couldn’t afford to crack up now.
With a sigh, and thoughts of whatever slip of the tongue that Rebecca hastily avoided vanishing, Agnes did her best to steel herself up. Eyes closed, Agnes took a calming breath and tried her best to keep focused on the good things, such as Rebecca’s touch and that even if she failed, this would not be the end of the world. She could do this; deep down, somewhere in her psyche, she absolutely knew that she could do this.
Squeezing Rebecca’s hand she smiled sweetly, though still nervously at her. “Okay…I…I guess this is it…” she muttered. After a second though…she still had not stepped forward. Head hanging down she glanced to her girlfriend. “Um…C-Can you, you know, just give me a little shove towards the school?”
Agnes was in full blown crisis mode! She was panicking at what was surely going to be one of the toughest things in her life. Sure she was a mutant with a disgusting ability, and of course she had nearly died at the hands of her parents that tried to exorcize her, but this was going to be for school! For her future! Though she knew, in the back of her mind, that there were options ready for her if she didn’t get in, deep down, in her heart of hearts, she really wanted this. Though Agnes would never admit it, she really did want to, one day, maybe, be a concert violinist.
But who knew if she would ever get that chance. Julliard was her best bet but it was still a terrifying thing to stand on the threshold of one’s dreams. There were a plethora of possibilities in which she could fail, and try as she might to not think of them, she simply couldn’t stay away from it.
Her palms were sweaty, her heart was racing, she felt herself world tilting and lurching as her chest felt close to erupting into a deafening cacophony. But it was the tender sweet sounds of a young woman’s voice that slowly calmed her enough. Blue eyes lowering, she looked into Rebecca’s eyes and found sympathy and tenderness waiting for her there…
>> "Yoo're here coz yoo're an amazing violinist. Th' worst tha' can happen es they say no, sae ye hae nothing tae lose."
And with that, Agnes took a calming breath. That…actually started to make her feel just a tad better. She took a quick, calming breath as she locked eyes with her girlfriend…
>> "An' they arenae gorna say nae. Ah hae faith in ye…Sae calm tha' buzzin' time bomb in yer chest, kay?"
Agnes soon found herself smiling without really meaning to. Just listening to Rebecca’s sweet voice calmed her enough to let the girl’s words sink in. Though she was not one hundred percent confident in her own skills as Rebecca was, she was still thankful for the sentiment. She sighed, closed her eyes, and pressed her cheek against Rebecca’s cool hand. It felt so nice to have her touch right now. She was glad that she had come with her.
“Okay.”
Honestly, Agnes really didn’t know who else would be more perfect to stand by her side right now. Gina was awesome and Sveta was an absolute dream for a friend, but Rebecca, she touched her heart in a way that Agnes could scarcely explain. Just looking at her mismatched colored eyes, seeing her lips stretch into that understanding smile, and feeling her skin pressed against her own, Agnes felt like the absolute luckiest girl in the world to be in love with something like Rebe—
Wait…did she really just think the word “Love” again? Agnes paused. This had been an issue for the past few…well…a while. Ever since her meeting with Rebecca at the comic shop, she had been struggling with this idea that…could she really be in love with Rebecca? She was definitely attracted to her, and she loved to be around her, but…was that love? Agnes was so terrified that she didn’t really know what love was that she feared thinking it. What if she was wrong? And, worst of all, what if she really did love Rebecca, but the feelings weren’t mutual.
It was then Agnes guessed that that was a just a chance she was going to have to take. Mentally…she said it…she loved Rebecca. And the second she thought it, her heart calmed and her muscles loosened. It felt good to say it. It felt…right.
But still the words didn’t leave her lips. Instead, a still scared and nervous, but slightly less so, Agnes smiled as she leaned forward and kissed Rebecca gently between her eyebrows.
“Heh,” she sniffled as she wiped a nervous tear or two away. “You need to teach me how you do that. Calm me down so easily, that is.”
Agnes could still feel her heart fluttering madly inside of her chest. She needed to herself under control or she was going to inadvertently release her swarm. The last thing that she needed, or wanted, was to make an embarrassing scene like that out in the streets of New York, or worse, in front the Julliard panel. Her insects would not be able to decipher friend from foe, only knowing that their queen was stressed out (which translated to ‘in danger’), they would attack anything perceived as a threat. To prevent this, Agnes needed to control her breathing and calm her heart.
She was fine. She. Was. Fine!
Another shaky breath and Agnes continued to walk in, trying to take her mind off of what she was about to put herself through. She was both irritated and happy that she was going through this. She was mad because she really doubted that she was going to accomplish being successful enough in order to get admitted. But she was happy, and a little intrigued, at this huge opportunity.
In reality, Agnes had never played for anyone of importance such as a teacher or anything. She only played for the people she cared about and loved or in those private moments where she needed to release her pent up emotions. But she had never played in order to be graded before. This was going to be something entirely new for her and the young runaway simply didn’t know what to expect.
She hoped that, if she did get in, they would not stamp out her joy of the violin. But what was the point in thinking such thoughts? They were not going to let her in away! Some street rat mutant that was abused by her parents and could summon a swarm of insects in plague-like proportions? It would be rather ridiculous of them.
And yet she still trudged on. Feeling Rebecca’s hand on the small of her back helped a little but her it was taking all her concentration to keep her not only herself from fainting, but to keep her swarm at bay.
>> "Sae, hoo are ye feeling?"
Agnes gave her another nervous smile as she lowered her gaze to the concrete below her feet. There was really no point in sugar-coating it.
“Like I’m out of my goddamn mind,” she muttered, a tiny tear stinging the corner of her eyes. It was then that the floodgates opened and Agnes just paused in her walking, shaking her head. “I…I don’t even know why I’m going to this. I mean, I should have just stuck some community college or something! Julliard! THE Julliard?! What…I…mean…gah! Babe...w-what am I doing here?” she pleaded with eyes that were mixed with fear, nervousness, and confusion.
She paused as he placed her hand on her hip, the violin case feeling all the heavier in her white knuckled hand. While she ranted, an audible buzzing could be heard emanating from her chest and drowning out the sounds around her. Though Agnes was vaguely aware of it, she was still concerned with the beehive buzzing around of her own thoughts to take notice of the same sound in her chest. Already, from a nearby gutter and alley, roaches and flies began to creep closer to her.
On top of all that, Agnes paid little attention to the fact that down the street, Julliard loomed…
Agnes…was going to throw up. She could feel it. Strolling down the sidewalk, her arms feeling like they would fall off, her legs feeling like noodles, her head absolutely swimming, Agnes was sure that at this very moment she was going to die. She was dressed in a simply, deep purple, turtle neck sweater, jeans, and sneakers. Not really the attire of someone applying to a prestigious school but, with some arguing, Agnes convinced Gina and Rebecca that if she was going to the audition, she was going to go dressed comfortably. But, even in the comfort of semi-casual clothing, she still felt terrified. And it was all the fault of that stupid application that she had sent to Julliard. She had never really thought that she would get in for the audition. It seemed so completely out there because who was she to these people? They didn’t know a single thing about her or her schooling so why would she even be given a chance? It was ridiculous.
But she had gotten the response letter. They wanted to give her the audition. Agnes felt like she was going to die at that moment. She had not even entertained the possibility that they would want to give her a shot! And now here she was, heading to Julliard in order to perform in front of them, to prove her worth to actually go to this prestigious school!
Agnes was sure that she was going to pass out. And she knew damn sure that this was a journey that she never would have been able to take by herself. So, as much as she wanted to do things on her own, she needed her partner with this. The only girl who had gone through hell and back with her, in order to support her on this endeavor…
With a sigh she adjusted her fingers holding her violin case as she glanced off to the side. Walking down the sidewalk with her, of course, was her girlfriend Rebecca Grey. She gave her a nervous smile before she turned back to looking at the oh-so-interesting concrete she walked on. Rebecca had taken the bus ride with her, all the way to busstop nearest Julliard and now the pair of them were walking together.
Agnes heart felt like a jackhammer in her chest. With every step she was beginning to more and more feel like this was something that she simply could not accomplish. All she could imagine were the number of missteps, musical notes she could forget, slips of her fingers or bow, or simply just passing out from the sheer pressure of this whole ordeal.
But, in silence, Agnes trudged onward. It was too late to turn back now. They were already nearing the building. On top of that, she couldn’t disappoint Rebecca by turning into a coward now.
Though deep, in the pit of her stomach, she could feel those nerves growing and latching onto her insides. She did not know if she would be okay…
Agnes’ thoughts were still in a whirl. What did Lexi mean when she mentioned that Rebecca “loves you”? Like…love loves her? It was an odd thought to have because Agnes had never really even thought about the L-word yet with Rebecca. Obviously she never got that far with Rhythm, and with Jasmine, well, for as long as they were together the word never really came up. But hearing that word in the same sentence with Rebecca…it was enough to make everything pause.
Did Rebecca really love her? Was Lexi telling her the truth or was she just being mischievous? What about Rebecca? They’ve been together for months now, was that enough time to really know how they felt about each other? Agnes cared for Rebecca, deeply, but was it enough to label it as love? And how did Rebecca feel?
It was amazing how that one statement from that blonde could have thoroughly sent Agnes for a mental tail spin. But she couldn’t let that show on her face. She didn’t want Rebecca to know what Lexi had said because what if Rebecca really didn’t feel that way yet? That would prove to be rather embarrassing. So, Agnes did her best to appear as calm and relaxed as normal, smiling as her sweet girlfriend.
>> "Oh... right, that's cool. She told me tae bring ye tae th' parties, bit Ah understand if you'd rather not. Lexi's more than a handful."
Agnes shrugged as she continued to smile sweetly.
“She’s your friend, sweetie,” Agnes said with a nod. “If you want me to be there, I will. Besides, she isn’t all that bad. Just…I guess takes some getting used to?”
As she stood there, waiting for Rebecca to finish bagging and boarding her comic choices, she had to admit that she could not help looking at Rebecca in the light that she was. The cascades of her beautiful red hair, the gleam of her mismatched eyes, the curl of her lips whenever she smiled, all of it pieced together to create this mosaic of a gorgeous, intelligent young woman that Agnes cared about deeply. But even though her days rose and set with images of Rebecca, was that love?
The runaway didn’t know. She would have to think on that and, maybe, discovery a little more about how Rebecca felt too…
It was obviously that Rebecca was trying to piece together something from her experience with Lexi but Agnes was a difficult nut to crack. She stood there, looking innocent and holding up the comic books. The truth was, that though Agnes was not entirely comfortable with Lexi, this was going to be Rebecca’s co-worker for who knew how long. The last thing she wanted was to ruin that relationship, even a work relationship, because Agnes may or may not have been misreading the girl’s signals. Though Lexi was increasingly blunt and brash, she was Rebecca’s friend and that was not something for the runaway to step in between of.
So, being the good girlfriend and not wanting to draw any lines in the sand, Agnes merely nodded to confirm that everything was fine and showed her sweet, redheaded girl the comics that Lexi had given her. When it was all said and done, Rebecca believed her.
Lexi then excused herself but before she could get very far, she pulled Rebecca off to the side and Agnes tilted her head as she whispered into her ear. Though Agnes could not hear the conversation, she was not sure of how much she liked it. Maybe it was because she could not hear it, maybe it was simply because she was far too close to Rebecca than she would have liked. Whatever the case, Agnes was over it…until Lexi returned to her and hugged her tightly to say her goodbyes…
>> "You are a gem and a good sport for dealing with me. If you were single, I would try to snatch you up, but you are dating my favorite coworker. I think you are great for her, and she's blossomed since you two got together. I hope she brings you to all the comic shop parties, which you are always invited to. Just keep her safe and treat her well, because I'm pretty damn sure she loves you…Kay, Aggie?"
Agnes nodded but said nothing.
The blush on her cheeks was so fierce but she was not entirely sure if it was from anger, embarrassment, or just nervousness. Lexi was far too brash for her taste, but she surprised the runaway be exhibiting a tenderness. Maybe that was what Rebecca saw in her? If so then maybe Agnes should give the woman the benefit of the doubt. Didn’t mean they were going to be best friends, but it was as close as they could probably get at the moment.
>> "I promised she would get our discount, so make sure to add that. I'm gonna go seduce some boys into buying a truck-load of comics. Bye, girlies!"
Agnes watched momentarily as Lexi skirted away. Slowly she made her way back to the counter where her girlfriend was ringing up the purchases and found her breath again. Lexi was like a stormfront that was hard to ignore. She hoped that she would not be scarred for life.
>> "That'll be $3.20, hun…So... did Lexi say anything interesting to you?"
Blink, blink, Agnes turned her attention back to Rebecca. It took a second for her to realize that she had been asked a question. Immediately she raced through her memory to recover it until finally she snagged something that sounded like what the redhead would have asked her. Money was involved…right?
“Oh, yeah,” Agnes smiled as she lifted up her purse and fished out a five dollar bill to pay for her items. But as the question shifted to Rebecca’s next, Agnes was not sure at first of what she could say. “Oh,, nothing really,” Agnes said with a shrug. “Just, you know, kept pushing these comics, and the new run of ‘Larva Girl’, and said I was invited to a party or something like that.”
Agnes was still completely embarrassed after everything that had happened. She couldn’t believe that she had just stumbled into a room, making out with her girlfriend and did so in front of a new roommate. That was completely uncalled for and made the insect queen’s cheek raise to a fierce red. How she must have looked to the new girl that was now standing and trying to look as polite as possible. Agnes was mortified, but she really could not help smirking at the situation. It really was humorous.
>> “Twyla Ashby.”
Agnes smiled as she gave her a meek little wave. Well, if anything, Agnes was not going to be easily forgotten. It must be hard to forget a girl sucking face with another with insect wings all aflutter. God…to be remembered like that. Maybe it was not so much of a good thing.
>> “Good to meet you, Rebecca and Agnes…Um…so are you two…?”
“Lovely to meet you,” the runaway said with a smile. But as the question continued, Agnes turned to Rebecca. She would rather let her girlfriend actually reveal the news, especially since she was going to be the girl’s roommate.
>> "Huh? Oh, yes! Um, Agnes es mah girlfriend…That doesnae bother ye, does it? An' Ah promise that whole, er, door thing wornt happen again."
Her eyes crystal blue eyes turned back to Twyla as she waited for her answer. Her fellow students tended to be very understanding about this sort of thing, but that did not mean that she and Rebecca did not receive the odd look or two, or a snicker from the some of the more immature boys in the school. But this as going to be different; in normal cases they could simply walk away and deem the person too close-minded to understand. But this girl was going to be Rebecca’s roommate! Getting along was one of those things that was required, or so she hoped.
While she waited, Agnes wondered how hard of an adjustment this was going to be. Agnes already had Gina for a roommate so her own room was rarely a place that they could find privacy. Rebecca’s room was always the sanctuary for that. But now that she was going to have a roommate, that meant that Agnes too would probably be seeing the girl on a regular basis. So far she seemed nice enough. She hoped that this first impression would turn out to be a correct one…
Agnes could scarcely hear the screams that were issuing forth from below. She didn’t know if Jasmine’s voice was mingled in with them or not but Agnes had more pressing matters on her mind. The begging had done no good as Gregory seemed to not take any heed of it. Instead, he pressed on with his crawling up the building. As much as she wanted to be back down on solid ground, the large insect’s one track mind was quickly proving that course of action to be impossible.
Her vision felt a little blurry on the corners the higher that they climbed and Agnes tried hard to not lose her composure. She was already far higher than she would have liked to have been. She tried again to beg to be let down but it was obvious that he was not going to allow such a thing.
>> "Now, now, Agnes. I am going up no matter what. There is only one way down, then, and I very much doubt you wish to take that particular rout. Perhaps, then, it is best that you stop struggling. Wouldn't you agree?"
Agnes gasped as she noticed just how high they were going. She clung onto her kidnapper, holding him tighter than she had ever held anyone before. The distance between herself and the dizzying heights that she was being carried up forced her to make the move. Deep down, in the pit of her stomach, her anger boiled over at being kidnapped like this; but fear quickly washed all of that away. That was the only reason she clung onto him so tightly…
>> "Tell me, Agnes. How long have you had a visible mutation?"
Eyes tightly closed, Agnes tried her best to keep her mind off of how high they were going. She wanted to ignore the roach and his questions but it was not doing any good just hear the wind whip about her ears. It reminded her too much of some classic heroine before carried up a large building by some hairy ape! She had to distract herself and pray she would not plummet to her death.
“O-Only…a few months…” she managed to squeak out. “W-What’re you doing? Are you going to kill me?”
Agnes wanted to break for daylight. She really did. The second that she saw an opening between Ascendant Girl’s arms, and the rest of the comic shop world, Agnes knew that she would bolt for it. But unfortunately it just seemed like every exit she wanted to take was either guarded by a white clad arm or very pronounced bust hidden behind a costume with its own window! Agnes was feel just a tad bit uncomfortable around Lexi now.
>> "Oh, hush. You're taking the discount. 'Sides…I usually give discounts to blue-eyed hotties anyway."
Agnes sighed but said nothing in response as a strong arm wrapped around her shoulders and ushered her back towards her redheaded girlfriend. It was at this point that Agnes realized that she really didn’t care for Lexi all that much. She was too forward…too pushy…too…
She sighed as she came to a realization.
Lexi was far too much like Rhythm, her first girlfriend. That was probably why she didn’t care for the blonde too much. Rhythm was very coarse at times and it was that exact attitude that caused her to get into trouble. For example, bludgeoning a bunch of police officers near to death and making out with a psychopathic killer in front of news cameras! Though she didn’t know if Lexi had done something like that, it would have probably only been a matter of time.
She sighed though as she saw that indeed she was looming closer to her sweet, redheaded girlfriend.
>> "Were ye good, Lex?"
>> "Of course I was! I just suggested some comics! Jeez."
>> "Es this true?"
Agnes eyed Rebecca. It was the perfect opportunity to tattle, to reveal just how pushy and sultry Lexi was trying to be with her. But…Agnes didn’t want to ruin Rebecca’s friendship, especially since this place was her job. Besides, there was every possibility that Lexi was just a tremendous flirt and that the runaway just didn’t know any better. It was not like she was flirted with very often. And when she was, half the time, it turned out to be boys.
She sighed and simply nodded her head. She held up the copies of Larva Girl and Awesome Arachnid that Lexi and pulled for her.
“Yeah,” she said with a soft smile. “Said these were good reads.”
Normal day, Spring day. For once Agnes was actually enjoying the Spring weather. Normally it irritated her because all of her insects were around this time of the year but now that she was getting a firmer grip on her powers, she was handling things just fan. She rarely had occurences where her powers spiraled out of control and there were sudden infestations. It was almost like they were actually listening to her and allowing her to have a normal life. Maybe they figured that a happy queen was a safe queen?
Whatever.
For now, Agnes refused to think too much about it. Instead she decided to hang out with her girlfriend at work and walk her home. Unfortunately…there was just something in the air. Maybe Agnes was far more sensitive to her insect-like-ness than she thought because, for whatever reason, one glance at Rebecca and the insect queen wanted to melt every last time.
Arm in arm, they strolled through mansion, looking like a young couple in infected with the desires and passions that tend to follow the season. Agnes grinned and giggled every time Rebecca stole a kiss against her cheek or neck. In response the young runaway had gently placed her hand against her redhead lover’s lower back, running her fingers against the girl’s waist. The hall seemed like it stretched on for an eternity, but before Agnes knew it, she spotted the familiar door.
But before Agnes could so much as offer her sweet lass a kiss, the fiery Scot displayed far more aggression than she had ever witnessed before. Before she knew it, Agnes was pressed back against the door to Rebecca’s room, a silly grin on her face as the young Scot leaned up and stated to kiss her deeply. The only thing Agnes could do was respond in kind.
Iridescent wings fluttered as Agnes shared in this passionate kiss. Rebecca fumbled with the door knob and as much as Agnes wanted to help to get the door opened faster, she was simply too preoccupied with the tender kisses of her girlfriend.
But finally, there was success! She felt the door give way and Agnes giggled momentarily as they entered the room…
And spied a blonde sitting on the empty bed that usually tended to be empty in Rebecca’s room. Lips still pressed to Rebecca’s, the young runaway awkwardly peeled herself away from her sweet girlfriend and blinked in a confused manner. Who was this person?
>> ”Um, yes. Ye’re… mah new roommate, yes? Sorry, Ah’m Rebecca. This…Es Agnes.”
“Um, yeah,” Agnes responded. “I-I’m Agnes. I’d shake your hand but I currently have my hands in this beautiful woman’s shirt. And I think I’ll stop that right about now…” Agnes continued as she unwound her hand from Rebecca’s bare stomach, blushing fiercely in embarrassment, and firmly held them behind her own back, trying to look as casual as possible.
Gawd, this was so embarassiiiiiiiiing… Agnes thought. She awkwardly smiled at the young blonde, and straightened up, trying to not look so needy and pouncy on own girlfriend. How could she forget something like this? There couldn’t be anything more embarrassing then barging into a room, a flurry of kisses and gropes, and being introduced to a complete stranger! How could she forget that Rebecca’s roommate was moving in today?
…
Wait a minute…Rebecca never TOLD her she was getting a roommate! Agnes, mouth a gap a little in surprise, turned to Rebecca. Oh, she was SO going to get a tickling later!!
Agnes was stolen away. She felt like a ragdoll under the immense grip that the girl, Lexi, had been able to display. She really did not want to be left alone with this woman, she just wanted to continue shopping and chat with Rebecca whenever she got an opportunity. Unfortunately that was just not going to be in the cards today.
Agnes was taken away to a secluded corner of the store where Lexi began to look through the comics for the exact ones that she had in mind. As she did so, Agnes looked off to the side and stole glances from Rebecca as she tried to set about working, talking to her trio of customers and trying to close the deal. It was obvious that this was important for her job, but gawd, Agnes wished that her girlfriend would come and rescue her. She REALLY needed Spectacular Girl at the moment.
Unfortunately, she could only turn around, politely, as Ascendant Woman went on with her speech.
>> "Sorry if I sorta assumed you like Larva Girl, but it's not often we have awesome mutants like you come in, and I've always had a thing for Larva Girl-- she's super underrated, and! there are rumors she is going to develop wings in the next big story arc! Isn't that cool?"
“Very,” Agnes responded with a smile. Truth be told, she really was a big fan of Larve Girl. Ironically enough considering her powers. She always felt that if any superhero were real, then she would have definitely gotten along with her.
>> "You probably keep up with the main comic, but Larva Girl has a great appearance in two comics of Awesome Arachnid that you simply have to check out!"
There was a spark of interest. She heard some of Awesome Arachnid but had never really delved too deep into his story arc. She didn’t always care for his everyman problems because all he seemed to do was whine about being a superhero. If you are going to change the world, you simply cannot whine! But he did have some interesting stories and she really did not even know that he had any arcs with Larva Girl!
Hmmm…maybe that would be something to look int—
She paused. Her breath caught in her throat when she suddenly felt something…no…somethings…pressing against her back. Her wings, flattened against her back, were unable to flutter with their nervousness but they still strained against the massive…assets…that were firmly pushed against her. Agnes eyes widened as she tried to scoot away, but unfortunately her exit was blocked off by the young woman’s arm as she reached for the comic books.
Trapped! She was trapped by Lexi and those barely covered hills that seemed to have had their own gravitational pull. Unable to escape, Agnes waited and glanced at Lexi out of the corner of her eye as the young woman slipped around and held out the comics for her. Gently, Agnes took them in hand.
>> "You can even have them at a discount, because you're Becca's sweetheart, and because you have to read them."
“T-Thank you,” she said with a flushed look on her cheeks. But quickly she managed to push down that redness as she glanced at Lexi. “You…don’t have to do that. I don’t mind paying full price. Umm…thank you…again…I’ll read them…” Agnes said as she tried to scoot around the young woman for any means of escape…
