The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Agnes was in complete and utter bliss. She didn’t care if she were snuggling with her girlfriend, in a very public space, lacking any clothing except for an overly large t-shirt that barely covered them; all that mattered was that nothing was going to ruin this moment. Agnes so rarely had moments that were not ruined by something that she reveled in the few that actually turned out extremely well. She grinned as she nuzzled Rebecca and contemplated just snoozing for a couple of minutes to enjoy the warmth of her body and sweet sounds of the silent library…
>> "Oh for the love of all that's holy! Cover yourselves up!"
>> "Ack! Kealey!”
>> "But don't you dare go anywhere."
Agnes squeaked loud in surprise and jumped into a sitting position the second she heard that accusing, shocked voice, followed by the startled sound of her own girlfriend. Agnes watched as a woman, her name Kealey, had stumbled across them and swiftly covered her eyes. A blush of fierce red enveloped the young runaway as she scrambled to grab any bit of clothing. The look of shock on the woman’s face was burned into the back of her mind now.
Quickly she managed to grab onto a shirt and slipped it on. It was oversized but far different from the black one that she had been wearing. Instead this was Rebecca’s shirt. A glance to her girlfriend and she saw that she too had grabbed the wrong one. This was not going to be awkward at all…
>> "We should give them some privacy. This, really isn't any of our business seeing. Put some clothes on, you two. And get a room. I suggest Agnes's."
Agnes almost smacked her own forehead as she saw who appeared next. Ami? Of course it would be Ami that should up next. Though it had been awhile sing she last spoke to the young woman, this was not the circumstance that she wanted to meet her again in.
As if it were possible, Agnes felt herself turn redder and she tried to keep the shirt low enough to cover below her waist until she could grab her sweat pants. Unfortunately she didn’t want to move because she was afraid of embarrassing the poor blonde woman any farther.
>> "Ah'm sorry, we were, um, studying an' then, well..."
Agnes…said nothing. Really there was no excuse for her to defend herself. They were caught, for lack of a better term, red handed. The blonde, who looked familiar enough for Agnes to assume that she worked here, looked both fluster, mad, and just confused by what she had walked into. Thankfully, though, Ami began to drag her away (well, at least try to drag her away).Agnes was quick as she grabbed her flannel pajama bottoms and slipped them on, quickly tied the strings of the waistband into a knot. They were not coming off again tonight.
Gawd…she blushed as she thought about that and glanced over to Rebecca. This was soooo embarrassing…but even so why couldn’t she stop herself from grinning slightly when she saw her pretty face? She really, really needed to get herself under control now…
Agnes was mortified. Not that she was embarrassed by her mutation or anything like that, but simply because people were not always prepared for it. People jump, are scared, some have even attacked her because she was different. Though they were just wings, and not at all deadly, some people simply don’t know how to handle seeing them flutter like that. She knew that Rebecca’s mother was supposed to be sweet and nice but she really just didn’t know how she was supposed to react to actually seeing someone with a physical mutation like her own.
Thankfully, though, the woman didn’t not jump. Well…at least not that much…
>> "Thenk God Rebecca warned me abit those wings of yoors. Nice tae meet ye, Agnes…Whit she didne tell me was 'at yoo'd be aw skin an' bones! Ah thooght they fed ye lassies in th' states."
“It’s nice to meet you too. Rebecca talks about you all the time,” she beamed.
Agnes blushed nervously but still nodded at that last comment. She had always known that she was rather skinny but it seemed that no matter what the young girl ate, it never really went to fat. Maybe it was because she was housing an entire swarm and they needed to feed too? Well, as disgusting a thought as that was, Agnes let it got as she turned her attentions back to the situation at hand. She was actually meeting her girlfriend’s parents! She needed to focus…
>> "Well, wi' you feeding her this week, Ah'm sure she'll live."
>> "Aye, th' haggis is cookin' noo! Joking! Steak an' tatties. We willnae scar 'er away."
>> "Good, coz Ah like her."
Agnes grinned a little. It was interesting listening to the battle of the accents going on here. Rebecca’s mother’s was so thick but Agnes could catch the words fairly simply, probably because she had been around the woman’s daughter so much. Rebecca definitely had an accent of her own but it was more clearly defined thanks to her living in the states and going to school in America. This, though, was going to be a complete cultural shift for the young runaway.
Here, she was going to be the person that talked funny. She shuddered at that thought. For someone who spent her entire life trying to just blend into the crowd, she was going to stand out like a sore thumb here.
But she blinked as the attention seemed to turn back the to the both of them.
>> "Alright, ur ye baith ready? Yer faither's waitin' eagerly at hamm."
Rebecca’s father. This was the part that she was beginning to dread. She heard that Rebecca’s father was nice but maybe a little gruff. Such a fact did not help that Agnes always had a hard time trust male figures. But, since this was her girlfriend’s father, she would have to control her nerves and have faith that he wouldn’t just turn her away the second she met him.
Bags in hand, she smiled and nodded firmly to the older woman.
“Mmhm, I mean, yes ma'am,” she responded a little meekly. God, she hated feeling this out of place…
Agnes was a ball of nerves for the first half of the entire plane trip. All she could think about was what Rebecca’s parents were going to be like the second that they met. Agnes had never gotten to even speak to her girlfriend’s parents over the phone so she really had no idea what to expect. It was these thoughts that played over and over in her head and forced her to feel just a little bit of trepidation about what was to come. What if they didn’t like her at all? Would they somehow just kick Agnes off the country? Could she fly all the way home?
But, after awhile, it just became too much trouble to keep thinking about these possibilities. Instead she finally gave in, as Rebecca suggested, to calmness and rest. It was easy to do since the sweet redhead was constantly found snoring against her shoulder. A couple times the sight of her made Agnes chuckle silently to the point that she had to reach over and stroke her hair.
She really was adorable. She loved her very much…
In silence Agnes attempted to keep her mind off of what was to come for the rest of the trip. She ate dinner when it was offered, she chit-chatted with Rebecca the precious few moments that she was awake, but, in the end, she succumbed to sleep as well. It did wonders for her nerves, and the time, because before she knew it, Agnes yawned to peek out the window and, all she saw was green.
>> "Can ye believe it?! We're here!"
She smiled at Rebecca but said nothing. She was impressed with the sight but that fear began to curl up in the pit of her stomach again. They were here…that meant that before long…she would be meeting the parents. A shuttering sigh fell from her lips as she tried to keep up a cheerful smile.
The plane landed, the girls descended, and together they collected luggage. So far Agnes was already picking out differences here and there from New York, but they were so miniscule that she probably would have assumed she was still in that states. It was weird, she had never been this far away from home…
>> "Sorry Ah was oot like a light. Was yer flight good?”
Her lips turned into a small smile as she nodded. “It was fine. It was a good thing we slept through most of it.”
But just as her hands curled around her luggage, she was suddenly attacked by a pair of lips. She blushed but grinned as she turned to look in those mismatched colored eyes of her sweet girlfriend.
>> "There. Our first kiss in Scotland."
She chuckled. She opened her mouth to reply with some witty remark when she was interrupted by the sound of another person speaking. Normally she would not listen to other people’s commentary but this one was obviously directed squarely at the two of them. She turned…and paused…
That woman looked surprisingly like Rebecca. So shocked was she by this that at first she didn’t really comprehend who this person was. Until…
>> "They call 'at "pda" in th' states, dornt they?
>> "Ma!"
Agnes…wanted to hyperventilate. They were not even off the plane an hour before suddenly her family showed up! Of course, she knew that Rebecca’s mother was supposed to be meeting them here but, in that second, she had completed forgotten. Now that was moment was here though, Agnes found herself at a loss. Rebecca’s mom was pretty, maybe she should compliment her? Argh, what is a girl supposed to say to her significant other’s parents?! She sighed and tried to shoo away her nerves bye smiling a little brightly.
Strawberry? she thought for a moment. Rebecca was going to have to explain that one…
>> "Ma... meet Agnes…My girlfriend."
Her hand gripped tight, Agnes held on for the moment of truth. She was introduced. She watched the woman for a reaction before she realized that Rebecca’s mother was probably waiting for a greeting of her own. Agnes gulped, smiled as she tried to keep her crystal blue eyes strong in appearance.
“H-H-Hi…” she muttered as she held out her hand to shake. Unfortunately, before she could shake the woman’s hand, her fly wings suddenly fluttered fast and nervous. Agnes ‘eep!’ed and calmed her wings down, keeping them firm down her back. “I-I’m sorry…”
Oh so just a little maiming and torturing I guess, she thought. She wanted to say that out loud, as a joke, but at the same time she didn’t want to offend Rebecca. Her girlfriend only had the sweetest things to say about her parents and Agnes did not want her to think that she was going into this with a bad thought.
>> "Ah'm sure they'll love ye almost as much as Ah dae. Jist... relax."
Agnes did her best to remember to breathe. She just had to breathe and hope that everything would be okay. Rebecca’s parents sounded sweet and, even though she was Rebecca’s first love interest, she had hope that they would be understanding. Rebecca had told her about the conversation she had with her mom. It sounded like it was quite a shock to her mother but she seemed to understand. She hoped those same feelings were still relevant now that she was going to be there in the flesh and blood.
She sighed, though, as she tried to relax. There was no getting out of this so worrying about it was just going to be out of the question. Instead Agnes simply did her best to relax back against the plush seat of the airplane seat and welcomed the familiar gesture of Rebecca resting her head against her shoulder. It felt so tender and warm, exactly the sweet reminder that she needed.
>> "Ah'm gorna try sleepin' on my favorite Agnes pillow once we take off. Ye better promise ye wornt spend the whole six hours worrying your pretty lil head."
She smiled a little shyly as she learned over and pressed her lips against the top of the redhead’s scalp. Meekly she nodded but she knew that it was really no good. Eventually she was start thinking about it again, worrying about it and trying to think of some way in order to appear more pleasurable in her girlfriend’s parent’s eyes.
But, in the meantime, before that panic set in, she nodded and gently patted Rebecca’s leg with her hand.
“I’ll do my best to not over worry,” she said. Then nodded as she kissed her again. “I promise.”
Before Agnes realized it, finals were over and she was free for the summer. Agnes…was done with high school education and was getting ready for her college career. It was a scary trail of thought but Agnes knew that she had to think about it. She had to prepare herself because this was going to be a whole new ball game. To be honest she had never thought she would ever get to this point and the knowledge that she achieved it was terrifying to say the least. Agnes was finally ready to move on past what her parents did, past the childhood she was denied, and enter the next phase in her life.
But Agnes put aside such thoughts at the moment. For now, Agnes was going to be very busy with something else entirely…her trip to Scotland. It seemed like it was only yesterday that she had promised Rebecca that she was going to go with her to meet her parents and now the day was here. Agnes was completely nervous with anticipation.
She packed, she made arrangements with the Mansion that she would not be around for gardening duties, and before she knew it, they were off. Agnes was quiet as they travelled to the airport, and even quieter as they went through the terminal and sought out their gate. It was a heavy burden to bear, to know that she was just about to meet her girlfriend’s parents. Sadly, her experience with parents tended to be bad ones because the only example she had were her own.
She always heard good things about Rebecca’s parents, though; she only hoped that same hospitality and care could be transferred over to her. Honestly Agnes was not sure about that; after all, Agnes was Rebecca’s first…anything. She could only imagine what they would think of her.
Moving along their plane, her luggage already going through except for her one carry-on, Agnes sighed nervously as she climbed on. She was allowed the window seat, which the young runaway graciously accepted (she had never been on a plane before), and slid into it in silence.
A hand pressed onto her knee and she turned to smile at Rebecca. Her wings folded flat against her back, she sighed as she sat against the back of the chair, looking tired.
>> "Sae how are ye feeling?"
“Nervous,” she said with a shy smile. “I mean…I’ve never met…parents before…you know? At least not good ones,” she smiled warmly. “Um…you’re sure they’re not, like, gonna kill me for stealing away their only daughter?”
Agnes felt her heart fluttered and she sighed. Whenever she heard those three little words from Rebecca it was as if it aligned everything in her universe. Things made sense again and Agnes felt herself calm and at peace. She sighed as she let those words quietly rebound inside of her head and she mused happily. The exhaustion from the argument was settling in but she was not going to destroy this moment. She wanted to enjoy this peace as long as she could.
Rebecca’s delicate fingers gently pried open her hand and she looked down at the charm necklace that was there. She had always wondered about it. She knew that it was a gift from her parents but she had never asked if any of the charms held any special meanings. Apparently they did…
>> "That flower's bluebell, an' it's the flower o' Scotland. The shamrock is obviously Irish. Those are from ma's side. This tudor rose is for England an' th' daffodil is the flower of Wales. Those are my faither."
Her lips twisted into a smile, Agnes beamed as she looked down at the charms, imagining Rebecca’s parents as they picked out just the right things to stand for them. A small pang broke out in her heart, though, as she tried to think of what it meant to give such a precious gift to her. Agnes didn’t deserve to hold onto to something like this! It was far too important! What if she lost it, or broke it, or something like that? But before she could protest, she felt Rebecca close her hands around it and Agnes had to sigh.
She really did not want to engage in another argument. So…she would accept…
>> "Those are the four quarters o' me, sae keep them safe, kay?"
Agnes smiled and nodded firmly.
“I’ll guard them with my life,” she whispered as she leaned over and very softly, very sweetly, pressed her lips against Rebecca’s. The fight was over and they have survived. Now they could make up…
Agnes sighed as she felt the tension from their argument finally begin to melt away. It had been such a stressful event that Agnes had felt her shoulders tighten up to a point that she wanted to cry because of how painful it was. But now that things were finally beginning to settle down, Agnes simply sighed as she tried to let all the tension wash off of her body. She was so exhausted from this whole ordeal that the only thing that the young insect queen wanted to do was to go back to her bed a lie down.
But sitting there, watching that lovely face of the sweet Scot, all tear stained and relieved, Agnes felt a pang of sadness. She really and truly did not mean to cause her that much harm. Maybe she should work on her temper a bit more.
A lyrical giggle broke through the sobs and Agnes had to smile a little as she kissed Rebecca’s forehead gently.
>> "Well, Ah wouldnae want that…Sae can we just stay here and finish crying so I can show you what the charms mean and then we can make out like tonight was normal?”
She nodded. It definitely sounded like a good plan to her. But a look crossed Rebecca’s face that made Agnes pause; the girl was curious about something. Agnes tilted her head and waited until Rebecca finally turned to her…
>> "Wait... was this really our first fight?"
Agnes thought for a moment but inevitably, she came to the same conclusion. Yes, this was actually their first fight and they managed to survive it! The runaway looked just as shocked as she turned her gaze up to Rebecca and found that the two of them were not looking at each other. She sighed as she leaned forward and carefully kissed her tear stained cheeks. It would be awhile before she forgave herself for causing her girlfriend so much heartache.
“I…I really think it was,” she smiled softly. “And I think we just got through it.”
>> "Ah know this isnae easy, bit it means sae much tae me… Ah was a bad girlfriend keeping this from ye, and the note was unfair."
Agnes frowned. She didn’t want to hear that from Rebecca, she didn’t want her to think that she was in the fault here. Well, maybe in a way she really thought that she was but they needed to move on. Despite Agnes’ feelings, and yes Rebecca should have let her in on this sooner, the young runaway knew that they did not need to dwell on it anymore. They really shouldn’t dwell on it, not after the argument that they had.
She shook her head as she very gently squeezed Rebecca’s shoulder. She was not a bad girlfriend, Agnes knew that, and the note was simply a mistake.
But before she could say anything of the kind, Rebecca spoke again. Agnes quieted down, not wanting to interrupt her as sometime important seemed to be on the redhead’s mind.
>> "Ye said if Ah... well, didnae come back, Ah would 'ave left ye with nothing bit a note…This is th' necklace mah parents sent me fer Christmas. It's important tae me… From this point on, you get a call 'fore every mission. An' now, ye have mah most important possession, sae Ah'll always have tae come back."
Agnes listened and the second that she saw Rebecca reaching for her necklace, she was quick to put the dots together. The runaway was going to protest immediately but Rebecca had already removed the charm necklace and gently placed it in her hands. The gesture was so touching, so sweet, and so heartstring pulling that Agnes was sure that she was going to break into tears again. But unfortunately Rebecca did not leave it at that. Instead she leaned over and kissed her on red, tear stained cheeks.
Instantly Agnes sniffled again as she tried to keep her tears from falling. Meekly she looked down at the charm necklace and felt…better. She felt complete, like she would always have something of Rebecca’s with her from now on.
>> "Ah signed up tae be an X-Man, bit that doesnae mean Ah wornt be careful. Ah have someone important tae live for."
Her fingers curling around the necklace, she held it tight as she leaned over and kissed Rebecca just as sweetly on her cheeks before she wrapped her arms around her neck. She pulled her close, holding her tight and sighed as she tried to keep from crying more. So many tears had already been spilled and so much energy had been spent on her anger that she simply did not want to do it anymore. Instead, she nuzzled, as sweetly as she could, into Rebecca’s neck and sighed.
“I’m sorry,” she finally broken down and said. “I…I didn’t mean to get so mad. Just…,” she sighed as she leaned back, her eyes red as she very gently cupped Rebecca’s cheek and looked into her eyes. “Please…please be careful. I love you. And…if you die…I swear I’m going to kill you myself! You got that!” She warned, smiling lightly but with as much seriousness as she could muster.
>> "It started coz of you... fer people who suffered like you…Ah was given th' power tae help fix th' world, an' being wi' th' X-Men gives me tha' chance...
Agnes momentarily felt her cheeks flush a bit in irritation. She didn’t like it when people tried to go out of their way to protect her. That was one thing that the runaway could not stand in the least, was for people to be thinking that she needed protecting all the time. The young runaway had survived so much so it simply was not fair for people to think that she needed to saved all the time. What was it their business to be doing things like that anyways? It was not as if she asked them to do it.
A glance at Rebecca, though, and she knew that things were different. Though Rebecca may have indeed used her as inspiration for wanting to become an X-Man, the truth of the matter was that it had evolved into something far different now. It was beyond just wanting to protect her…it was about protecting everyone.
Agnes just didn’t know how she felt about that. The problems of everyone were not Rebecca’s cross to bear so why should she? Why should she risk her life to protect a world of people who hardly cared one iota about them? At least that is what Agnes thought.
>> "Ah saved people today... it wasnae easy, bit Ah instantly knew Ah was right... Being an' X-Man feels like what Ah was s'posed tae do…Ah shoulda told ye, but Ah was scared... Ah worried yoo'd hate me for it... an' maybe... Ah worried aboot th' same thing you did."
It was now Agnes’ turn to feel the real sting of the conversation. The young mutant sighed as she continued to toy with the hem of her jeans, trying to not allow herself to start crying again. Did she really come off as that harsh? Was she always that harsh around Rebecca? Agnes had never meant to come off like that, but, if that were the case, why did Rebecca have any fear about telling her?
Maybe because of how she was reacting right now. Agnes sniffled. She hated to think that Rebecca was scared to tell her anything, especially after all the stuff that they had gone through just to get to the point where they could be together.
Now, though, Agnes was having a hard time figuring out what to do next. She made her stance that she really did not like the idea of Rebecca being an X-Man clear. But…could she really tell her that? Especially after Rebecca just poured her heart out.
>> "Ah guess Ah was terrified ye wouldnae be proud o' me..."
That was the final stake through the heart of her anger. She sighed, sniffled and, unsure of really what else to say, raised her hand and gently brushed her fingers across the redhead’s shoulder. She could have simply passed it off as just trying to shoo some stray hairs away, but she didn’t Instead…the young insect queen left her hand upon the young Scot’s shoulder and sighed.
It…it was going to hurt to say…but…she had to. She did not want to be viewed as a monster or someone who would not allow Rebecca to be or do whatever she wanted.
“I…I’m scared…” she whispered. “But I’m proud of you…”
Agnes did not really realize the true weight of the words that she was spouting off. As she stood there, growing angrier and angrier with every word she said, remembering how she felt in those harrowing moments that she was watching her girlfriend run around on screen, she tried to focus on why she was upset. She was not looking to truly harm Rebecca but she couldn’t just keep things bottled up anymore. She was mad and she needed to express that.
Unfortunately it seemed that her rant had struck just a tad bit harder than she really meant it to. Before she knew it she watched as the destroyed look fell over Rebecca’s face and the young redhead sunk onto the stone bench. Lily white hands buried her face and all Agnes could feel was the pull of her heart.
And damn, did it hurt.
>> "Ah'm sae sorry..."
The tears fell and Agnes was immediately struck by the sadness in her voice. Though it got the desired effect of expressing to Rebecca just how bad she felt, the problem now was that she had REALLY made her feel bad. The crying the hurt sound of her voice and already Agnes could feel her resolve crumbling into dust. She didn’t want it to get this far but it was definitely far too late to pull it back.
She sniffled as her own tears began to spring up. She fell into the seat next to Rebecca but she didn’t dare touch her; not yet. Maybe it was because there was still the smallest twinge of anger in her, or maybe it was because she didn’t want Rebecca to feel like she did this intentionally. Whatever the case, Agnes struggled to keep her hands firmly upon her own knees as she too began to drip tears, though still did not dare look at the young red head.
“I…” she choked out. “I...Rebecca…why?” she asked. She might as well get to the bottom of why Rebecca was doing this. If she could figure that out then maybe she would not be so inclined to be angry with her. “Why did you join them?”
>> "We can talk aboot it, bit Ah know what Ah want. Ah have gifts tha' can help people. Ah proved that t'day."
Agnes shook her head slightly. What was there really to talk about? It seemed as if Rebecca was being stubborn and made up her mind as to what was going to be happening from now on. Apparently she was not going to back down in becoming an X-Man and there was little that Agnes could say in order to change her mind. Though she never would have dreamed of ever telling someone like Rebecca what to do, this matter just seemed different.
Rebecca’s life was going to be at stake and Agnes had to do everything she could to prevent that from happening.
She sniffled as she still refused to look at her sweet girlfriend. She felt that if she did she was going to fail and fall to pieces. It was just too hard to stop imagining, seeing Rebecca hurt…or worse. Too many people left Agnes life and she did not want that fate for Rebecca.
But what could she do?
>> "An' Ah can handle it jist fine, thank ye. Jist coz Ah didnae have a rough childhood dornt mean Ah cannae take care o' myself!"
The voice rose and Agnes finally turned her attention back to young Scot. Now Agnes had always had her own temper but she was quelling it so long as she was talking to Rebecca; but the second she heard the raised tone in her voice, Agnes felt her own dander rising. Instead of crying, she was starting to get mad all over again.
“Take care of yourself?” she asked with narrowed eyes. “Rebecca you ran into a room full of things ready to KILL you!” she said as she finally stood up from the bench. “Did you even think about what would have happened if you bit off more than you can chew? You didn’t tell me about being an X-Men, you didn’t look for me when you ran off on your damn mission,” her eyes welled up again but with hot tears. “You didn’t even call me to tell me you were okay so that I could hear your voice! You just slid a damn note under my door and expected everything to be okay? What if you weren’t? What if you had gotten seriously hurt and this,” she held up the note Rebecca had left her. It was crumpled, stained with tears, and just generally already worn out. “Is the last and only thing I ever got from you?”
Agnes. Blinked. That DEFINITELY was not the reaction that she really needed to see right now. Though she knew that Rebecca was not the vain, doing things to be popular, type, she definitely did not want to see the young redhead fawning over the idea that she had been on TV. Even if it was something that she had never experienced before, this was the last thing that Agnes needed to see from her. It simply was not right.
Sadly, that only added fuel to the fires that were already burning pretty hot inside of her.
>> "Ah'm sorry..."
Agnes said nothing but she was damn right that Rebecca should have said sorry at that point.
The young insect queen was still trying to wrap her head around everything that had happened. She was not even sure that Rebecca had ever told her these inclinations before. What teenager would willingly want to do something like that, unless they were Emerald? Emerald was the rough type that always threw herself into danger because that was the type of person she was. On top of that, she suffered much like how Agnes suffered; Agnes could understand wanting to right the world after all that.
But Rebecca? No, Rebecca should have never been exposed to this type of world, nor should she have ever had these experiences. She should have remained separate from her and lived her life normally. Any semblance of that, though, was gone out the window.
>> "Ah'm sorry Ah didnae tell ye, coz ye deserved tae know, bit Ah hope ye realize Ah want tae be an X-Man, an' Ah dornt plan on quitting."
Agnes felt everything inside of her stomach just plummet. All she wanted was a normal life and now she was going to have girlfriend who wanted to be a superhero. Agnes just didn’t know how she felt about that. She read comics, watched the dangerous crime on TV and, while she trusted Rebecca and her abilities, she feared for her. She feared that she would eventually run across something far stronger than her and…and…
A tear rolled down her cheek at the thoughts that followed. As much as she did not want to let the doubt and fear crawl into her brain, it was far too late. A little weak kneed, she sat herself down on her the bench and shivered. She tried to stop the thoughts, but she couldn’t. No matter how hard she tried, various images of Rebecca in some type of pain or agony flew to her mind.
And the runaway did not like that.
“So…that’s it, huh?” she sniffled, not even looking at her. “No discussion and that’s it. I’m not going to stand aside and watch you run into something you cannot handle, Rebecca. I love you too much for that,” she took a shaky breath. She was mad, sad, irritated, lost, she really did not know how to handle herself anymore.
So instead, she just cupped her face in her hands and cried.
Agnes could tell that the tone of her voice and the look on her face had had an effect on Rebecca. Instead of being mysterious or subtle with how she was feeling, Agnes decided to get straight to the point. Why should she beat around the bush, after all? She was upset because of what Rebecca did and she might as well get straight to that. Rebecca, in her eyes, needed to explain herself, especially as to why she never said anything to her to begin with.
So Agnes stood there and waited. Her arms crossed over her chest, she was not swayed by Rebecca’s sweet and apologetic look. Though she knew that the young redhead was probably sorry, Agnes still just felt far too angry to really just let it go at that. She had a lot to unload off her chest so the real challenge was going to be to do so without working herself up too much.
Eyes focused, she watched Rebecca; she willed her to start explaining, to say anything that could defend what she did, what she was doing this whole time…
>> "Ah always meant tae tell ye. Ah really did, bit things got sae busy and Ah was worried 'boot what ye'd think."
Agnes still retained the disappointed frown across her lips as she eyed Rebecca. She knew there was truth in that; it was damn busy these days with the end of the school year, applying for colleges, and of course other incidents. But this was something pretty big to keep from her.
>> "Ah should 'ave told ye Ah was an X-Man... are ye really mad?"
She sucked in a breath as she shook her head and turned her gaze away.
“Yes,” she muttered, looking in nearly every direction before she turned her gaze back to the pretty redhead. “What’re you thinking? Rebecca, you’re going to get yourself killed. I mean…X-Men? Do you have any idea how scared I was, how terrifying it was to watch you through a TV screen running into danger? How could you even think about that without considering my feelings?” she asked.
Agnes paced back and forth as she still tried to calm herself down. She was completely over this feeling because she did not want to keep feeling mad at Rebecca but she just couldn’t help it. Every time she felt that note in her hand, every time she thought about what Emerald said, Agnes just got it into her head over and over and over again that she was beyond pissed off. She still could not believe that Rebecca could have done such a thing without telling her. Instead she was forced to watch it happen on the news and recognize those flowing red locks and the bit of pale skin that did show whenever the camera caught a glimpse of her.
It was Rhythm all over again. The last time that Rhythm did something stupid, like beating a bunch of cops to within an inch of their lives and making out with a wanted fugitive, Agnes only found out about it because it was pointed out to her on the news. Though this was nowhere near the degree of the betrayal she felt with Rhythm, it still hurt like hell.
The more Agnes thought about that, the harder her pacing began to be, the harder she stomped onto that grass and the harsher her breathing became. Agnes was hard to calm down right now. Granted, what Rebecca was trying to do was noble, but Agnes should have been told. She knew that much. There should have been discussion, a talk, anything other than just finding a note on her door and watching her lover run into a deadly building.
Not paying attention to her surroundings, she continued to stalk left and right, wringing her hands through one another as he tried to keeping the buzzing from other taking her. Her wings fluttered with agitation, on and off, to the point that she feared she would involuntarily take off the ground.
But she managed to rein in at least enough control to be okay.
>> "Hi... sweetie."
Until she heard that voice. That sweet, lyrical voice that was the target of her disappointment and anger. The second she had heard the sound, she had been startled enough that her wings thunderously before calming down. She turned to face Rebecca.
The look on Agnes’ face, the hurt, the sadness, the disappointment, it was all there, clear as can be. No one could have misinterpreted how she was feeling; no one. She sniffled before she found her voice again.
“Hi,” was all she said. “Do anything…interesting today,” she said as she crossed her arms over her chest and stared at her.
Oh, Agnes was ready to have words. A lot of angry words; words that blazed hot; with red angry text! It was odd because she both knew why she was upset and didn’t know at the same time. All she knew was that whenever she looked at the little note that she held clutched in her hand, she felt herself fume all over again. She didn’t want to get this mad but it was just something that she really could not help. For whatever reason she could not let this go.
She needed to talk with Rebecca and she was damn sure going to do so.
It had been a bit since Agnes had had words with Emerald. The she-wolf had broke the news that she had been training Rebecca this whole time, teaching her to fight so that she could join the X-Men. Agnes was so devastated by that news. It was not simply because Rebecca was willingly throwing herself out into the face of danger, but it was because the young redhead had never told her about it in the first place. That probably had to be the worst pain of all. They were supposed to be in a relationship and she couldn’t tell her this major event in her life? She joined the X-MEN! Why didn’t she say anything?
Agnes sighed as he tried to find some way to reach calm in her life. She didn’t want to be so angry but she was so worried; so terrified that Rebecca was just running into these types of things, not realizing the real danger that was involved in them. Rebecca was sweet but she didn’t have the exposure to the cruelty of the world that both she and Emerald had.
And one thing that the young runaway did not want her to be exposed to was cruelty. She should never have to carry those types of burdens that she had to. She should never have to carry those scars.
She sighed as he sat outside, in the gardens where they had first met…and again where they had first really and truly kissed. Agnes did not mean to really have this meeting out here, in this place, but it seemed like it was going to end up that way. Rebecca had to understand that she was not okay with this. Not. At. All.
She huffed as she checked the clock on her cell phone; she had left a note for Rebecca to meet her out here in her room. A sigh fell from her lips as she tried to calm herself down, already she could feel the angry buzz in her chest but she couldn’t allow herself to get that angry. Rebecca didn’t deserve that.
