Agnes was finding a hard time catching her breath. She stood there, staring over the edge of the building and watching the tiny dots that she assumed were the mob mulling around the base of the building. A few of them were still trying to leap up and grab the ladder but many others seemed to be circling down below. Why wouldn’t they just give him? What was it about the two of them that made all these people so crazy that they wanted to kill them?
Killing them? The thought was a sobering one to Agnes and instantly made her more serious. It really did feel like they wanted to kill them, didn’t it? Those people were charging at them with absolutely everything they had and they were not stopping for anything. There was no sense or reason behind their attack except the fact that they were utterly and completely relentless. They were not going to stop until their hearts stopped beating.
Agnes suddenly had a flash back of her own parents and they type of monsters that they were. They were relentless too but they were driven at least by something that was tangible; their hatred for mutants was fueled by the fact that were completely taken over by a zealot-like fervor. These people, though, their hatred Agnes couldn’t see the source of.
She took one long sigh as she turned back to her companion. The purple woman looked just as shaken as Agnes felt…
>> "I think I'm all right…Are you?"
Agnes nodded and let her wings droop down against her back. She was already tired but she knew that they needed to keep moving. A glance over the edge again and they were still leaping for the ladder but there was a significant less number of them. Maybe the rest were already heading into the building and trying to make their way up to roof access? Agnes shuddered at the thought.
She finally nodded to the woman though, answering her question.
“I-I’m okay,” she whispered. “I just…I wish I knew what was going on. I’ve never, ever been attacked like that. They were like…wild animals! Look,” she said as she gestured over the edge. “They are still trying to grab the ladder. I think…I think we’re going to have to get on the move again soon…”
Agnes had been cautionary afterward. She didn’t want to push Rebecca, especially since she didn’t know exactly what the young woman was feeling Times like this, they were hard to really wrap your mind around because everything was so different and knew. The sensitive skin, the coolness of the air, the feeling of pure vulnerability as you laid next to someone you thought you truly cared about. This was test that would show just how serious the relationship was: if she could just open her eyes and still feel exactly the same about her when they looked at one another.
The young bug queen waited, nibbling her lip as he tried to not still seem so nervous. After she had reached this step with Rhythm, the girl vanished and messed around. Though Rebecca was a far cry away from the type of woman that Rhythm was, there was still that anxiety that she would be met with the same fate.
She sighed as kissed the young woman’s forehead…and was pleased when a cooing smile appeared on the redhead’s lips. Rebecca crept close and nuzzled into her, which only made Agnes blush yet smile all the wider…
>> "Ah love ye like crazy..."
Agnes felt as if everything in her world was absolutely perfect now. No fears of studying or going to school or even of her powers or parents; everything made sense with those few little words from the one person that meant so much to her. She probably could have cried if she did not wrangle herself in as much as she was. Instead, though, her thin arms wrapped around Rebecca, underneath the oversized t-shirt they used for a blanket (which really hid nothing)and she pulled her close, kissing her again.
“I love you too,” she whispered sweetly. “More than I will ever be able to express.”
She sighed contentedly and hugged Rebecca close. Absolutely nothing was going to ruin this moment. Nothing…
>> "Why ever would you think that, my dear girl... Actually, given the circumstance, I can understand why you might. Never mind, then. I brought you up here to chat in a nice, open atmosphere where you couldn't escape me; simple as that!"
Her question was answered but the young runaway could scarcely make sense of it. She was not sure she actually heard it, after all, the whole thing was just too crazy. Who would climb up the side of a skyscraper with a hostage just so that they could have a talk? Oh yeah, maybe a giant Roach with an ego complex!
But as angry as Agnes was, her fear from being at this great height was far more powerful. She held on tightly, despite how much she didn’t want to, if only because their two carapaces were not exactly gripping. Agnes felt herself feeling slippy against him but with the combined effort of the two of them holding each other tightly, it seemed like more than enough to keep her secure. Oh god, at least she hoped so.
Fingers curled tight, she held onto her own hands while her arms tensed to a painful level. All she wanted was to on solid ground again, preferably not after suffering a long fall. But, seeing as she had no choice, she simply tried to hold on for the rest of the ride.
Finally, when they reached a height that Agnes assumed was comfortable for the Gregory, he plopped her down onto a ledge and Agnes did her best to keep from screaming. She scrambled back, trying to escape the ledge and that view of the plummet that would surely follow if she did look. Eyes closed tight, she pressed herself as against into the wall behind her as she could.
Of course it was then that the roach decided to start up a casual conversation…
>> "I really wish one of my little friends were here... You would simply adore them, I'm sure."
She ground her teeth as she narrowly opened her eyes to look at him. Was he really that absolutely insane? He spoke so casually! Agnes tried to keep her whimper in as she remained as far back and away from Gregory as possible.
“W-What…do you want to talk about?” she asked urgently. She wanted nothing more than to be off this ledge.
There were no longer need for words. Agnes was fully embracing what was going to happen right now. This was a huge step for she and Rebecca since they had yet to reach this point prior. Though she had thought about it before, she never imagined that it was going to take place in the very public, Mansion library, in the dark of night, while studying for finals. Sure there were the occasional fantasies and dreams that Agnes had but none of them had ever involved something like this. This was just pure combustion and passion that needed an outlet and it needed it now.
A pause descended on them as they stood there, taking a second to catch their breath. Agnes actually blushed a little as she took in the moment, seeing more of Rebecca’s pale, freckled skin then she had seen before (at least intentionally). Their shirts lay on heaps on the ground and Agnes suddenly felt how really exposed she was. It had been awhile since she had done anything like this so she was not surprised by the tremble that subtly shook throughout her body.
But the chill of the library air was displaced the second she felt pulled back into Rebecca’s warm embrace. The melded heat from both their bodies was probably enough to set the very pages of the books around them on fire. Every touch, every kiss, every nuzzle, it only stirred the growing fires within; it reached such a point that Agnes’ wings began to involuntarily flutter fiercely.
It was then that she felt those slender arms of the young Scot wrap around her. There was no turning back now…
…
…now…
…
…okay really?
Apparently Rebecca, the brave girl who challenged crazed mutants and the dangers of the world, had finally met her match…with a clasp. She tried not to laugh, she really did since she did not want to embarrass her sweet girlfriend, but the scene was just too funny to not laugh at. Standing there, one had covering her mouth to keep from laughing and other gently encouraging her girlfriend with gentle caresses, she waited paitently.
>> "Heh, ye think a girl wouldnae hae this problem. Um, let me try this."
Agnes smirked and nodded before she finally just gave into the chuckling. This would definitely be something that both these girls would remember from here on out. But Agnes did not mock or laugh out loud; instead she merely smiled and kissed her girlfriend, encouraging her to continue until, with some maneuvers, the task was finally done.
>> "Well, at least that's done."
“You’re doing good,” she beamed a little shyly as she took Rebecca’s hand. She was encouraging her, showing her support; Agnes was not going anywhere and she just wanted Rebecca to know that this was a step they were taking together.
She then leaned over, crystal blue eyes searching those mismatched colors, seeing the same love and passion she felt before, and kissed her again. Skin goosebumped and she trembled still but Agnes was growing far bolder. They had reached that point of no return…
***FADE TO BLACK***
There was a sigh as Agnes curled against Rebecca, pulling up one of the oversized t-shirts to cover them like a blanket in that haze of bliss and sleepiness. Lying on the floor, it was surprisingly not cold as they lay between the book shelves, a few books lying around them that had fallen from before. Dark hair mingling with red, Agnes kissed softly behind Rebecca’s ear before she laid her head back down. Gently she ran her fingers across Rebecca’s bare arms, testing to see if she was indeed awake or not. She didn’t want to ruin the peace and calm of the moment, but at the same time she wanted to make sure that Rebecca was okay.
But she said nothing, trying to preserve this joy, anxious for whenever Rebecca finally said anything about this new experience together. Silently she simply nuzzled into Rebecca’s hair and waited for one of them to break the silence…
Agnes had lowered the ladder just in time. From her vantage point, she could see the mob had turned into the alley and were running directly for the purple woman, hurling bottles, trash, whatever they had on hand. Whatever their problem was, they were not going to stop until they ripped them limb from limb or something! Agnes actually feared for both of their lives but she knew that she could not fall apart right now. She needed to focus and she needed keep herself together until they were out of harm’s way.
The ladder was lowered and the second it got within reach, the woman lashed onto it with her tubes and lifted herself up and out of the way of danger. Agnes was relief because she saw one of the mob members have the glint of something metal in their hands. Was it a knife? She could not tell from her vantage point and she didn’t want to stick around to ask.
Once the woman was up, she raised the ladder herself and kept it out of reach from all those angry people down below. They obviously did not like this and were screaming, cussing, and throwing whatever they could get their hands on. Only a couple of objects made it high enough to be a threat so Agnes ducked down. Once it seemed like they had thrown everything, both girl’s climbed.
Agnes, deciding that she didn’t want to be in the way of the purple woman, let her take the rest of the ladders that lead up to the roof of the apartment while Agnes once again took to the skies. Her wings beating fast, she flew as hard and fast she should could, trying to drown out the sounds of the angry people below. Before long, she touched down on the roof, next to the purple woman and breathed a shaky breath.
She gulped placed her hand over her chest as she tried to calm her thumping heart. Only when she had felt like it was not about to leap out of her throat did she turned back to the other woman.
((OOC: Hope this is okay, Sky! If not, I can edit! ))
>> "Not worth it,"
Agnes nodded as she pulled the woman along. Though this scene was feeling far more odd than it should have normally been, Agnes did not stop the question it. She wanted to get the hell out of here. It was weird, though. There have been times when Agnes has been out in the streets and she never had this type of mob come after her before. Most people gave her odd looks or other types of barbs, but never had they really attacked her with ferocity.
Something was odd about this whole situation but Agnes really did not have the time to consider any of it. She needed to save her hide and she needed to do it now!
>> "We need to go high, where they can't."
Agnes nodded as the pair of them ran. The crowd was still persisting in their following. It was almost as if someone was driving them to this and they really had no choice in the matter. But there was no way to get to the bottom of it now. Agnes ran as fast as her spindly legs could carry her, trying her best to drag the purple woman along with her but not too harshly that she would lose her grip on her.
Angry shouts behind them fueled her speed as she tried to think of some way in order to get them to higher ground. She peered up at the rooftops. She could fly! But the problem was that she could not carry this woman with her. She was simply too heavy for that.
But as they ran into an alley, Agnes paused when she looked up at the fire escape with the ladder pulled up. It gave her an idea.
Shouts could be heard down a ways so Agnes snapped her attention back to the purple skinned woman and nodded up to the fire escape.
“I’ll fly up there and lower the ladder for you. The second you get up there, I’ll pull it up. That should at least give us time to get to the top, okay?” Once she had confirmation, gave the woman a quick nod to trust her, that she was not leaving her behind, and fluttered her wings as fast as she could. Quickly she lifted off the ground and made towards the fire escape. Only when she landed did she lower it down for the woman, and apparently just in time as their mob started to pour into the alley…
Agnes had been watching Rebecca’s eyes, imploring her for some kind of telepathy or mind reading that would let her know exactly what she was thinking. This was new to Rebecca and Agnes did not want to push her girlfriend into anything that she was not ready for. Kissing, touching, that was all fine and dandy, but when it got down to real intimacy, it could be a terrifying thing. Agnes definitely remembered that and she wanted to make sure that when they did decide to share this experience they were both ready.
Eyes imploring one another’s, Agnes searched those mismatched eyes, the gap between them closed to the point that she could feel her goosebumping skin underneath her shirt. Their touches were electrifying and enough to make the young runaway want faint. Her heart thundered in her chest and muscles were tense with nerves.
Maybe she should stop. Maybe Rebecca really was not ready for this…maybe Agnes wasn’t ready for this yet…
But, as she watched Rebecca sweet face, and saw the gentle nod of her head, it was as if the floodgates of emotion had been released from the back of her head. Her body was flushed with warmth as she looked down, noticing that Rebecca had taken her hand and was helping her to pull off that long, oversized shirt. Agnes actually trembled a little bit, but she smiled sweetly at Rebecca all the same. This was actually happening.
Leaning forward, she nuzzled the redhead’s cheek gently, planting a tiny kiss along her jawline before pressed her lips against her.
Carefully she aiding Rebecca in discarding her own comical shirt, trying to keep her nerves from making her seem too awkward. But as she their lips met, she began to calm. The force was strong with this one…
Agnes did not know what she was doing. All she knew was that it felt like her body was moving into autopilot. Where a second ago she was fighting back her sensations, not she was fully embracing them. The thoughts of finals, of needing to be proper, or keeping things under control, all of it just flew out the window the second that she had pressed her lips down onto the young Scot’s neck. Part of her, a small part of her wished that Rebecca would have declined, or backed away, or tried to be the voice of reason…
Then Agnes felt the hand lying on top of her own, and other pressing against her hip and she knew that Rebecca was not going to stop her either. The runaway sighed, the last bits of her logical thought slipping away as he continued to kissed that pale skin of her girlfriend’s neck.
This was not right. They were supposed to be studying, preparing for their future schoolings, being responsible adults; but in the end Agnes just didn’t care anymore. The tenderness that Rebecca displayed, the mingling of emotions, it was all just too much for her to ignore anymore. They had yet to take this step and, quite frankly Agnes was a little worried. That was the only sobering thought she had.
But it was enough to stop her just for a second.
In that moment of pause she reaches that her hands were now underneath the oversized, pajama shirt, caressing her girlfriend’s hips. Agnes had just barely been able to hold herself back as she chin against her girlfriend’s shoulder, really unsure of what to say or ask her. How does one go about that anyway? With Rhythm, it was just combustion that she could not control, she never got this far with Jasmine, and Rebecca…she was entirely new to this.
Agnes took a second to catch her breath, form linger against Rebecca’s as she sighed. Somehow in the midst of kissing, Rebecca had turned around and was pressed against the tall bookcase behind her. Agnes looked into the young woman’s eyes, trying to find the right words…
“Rebecca…” she started to say. But found not find the words to really ask her if she was okay with this. Agnes just remained there, watching her eyes, almost willing her girlfriend to catch onto her thoughts…
Agnes was pissed. The man gripped her arm extremely tight and even though she had unleashed a swarm into his face, the man only screamed, shouted, and held her tighter. The runaway, struggling, slapped and hit his hand but it was to no avail. He was so caught off guard by her swarm, so distracted that he clutched onto her; not out of hatred, but more out of panic since it was apparent that he really did not know what else to do. He was clinging onto her probably because he didn’t exactly realize that she was still the same girl with the insect wings that he had assaulted.
But he would not have long to think about it. Suddenly another movement pulled Agnes attention away; she watched as a purple tentacle zipped our and lashed itself around the man’s offending wrist. The sounds of bones snapping and cracking filled Agnes’ ears as tentacles squeezed and shattered bone. She blinked in surprise as those once tight fingers turned into jelly wrapped around her arm.
A quick jerk and she pulled her arm away, sending the man sprawling down onto his back as the cloud of vengeful insects descended upon him. At that point the runaway did her best to calm them, to urge them away with every thought that she could muster. But before she could get the words out, she heard the urgings from her companion.
>> "I think it’s time we left."
Agnes paused…and then nodded. The woman was right. They needed to get out of here. Maybe, while they removed themselves from the situation, her insects would flee as well, seeking to keep protecting her and leave their victims to nurse their wounds. She hoped so since the last thing that she wanted was to actually have someone’s death on her hands.
Barely two steps away and suddenly Agnes heard the THUNK! of something solid striking flesh. She turned and noticed that the woman was partially dazed and held her head; she then accidentally kicked the rock that had been thrown and made the connection. Her anger flared up and instantly her insects began to buzz all the more dangerously, but she did her best to hold it in as she gripped the young woman’s hand and began to pull her away from the confrontation.
“Ohmygod! Are you…?” she swallowed her fear and shook her head. They needed to move and now. “Come on, most are gone! Let’s go,” she pleaded as she pulled gently on the woman’s hand. “Enough people are hurt and they are not worth it! They’re not!” she whispered harshly and pulled at the woman’s hand again before she broke into a run.
Agnes gasped as the last of her swarm made their exit. The buzzing caused such a loud cacophony that the young insect queen could scarcely hear anything else being said. The hate filled words from the audience was drowned out but anything that her purple skinned companion were completely filtered out as well. All Agnes could hear was the sound of her swarm buzzing protectively around her, ready to defend against absolutely anything. It was safe and comfortable there and probably one of the very few times when Agnes felt truly and utterly secure.
The cloud hung above her head, buzzing and undulating in the air as the insects swayed back and forth before descending on the nearest people that seemed to be the cause of Agnes’ danger. People were buffeted, stung, causing them to screech and shout as they tried to bat at the air and knock the offending insects away. But it was like swatting at the rain; a vengeful, angry rain that was not going to back down…
Agnes wings fluttered fiercely as she glared out between all the people, trying to will another person to take a step towards her. She was certainly not in the mood for this and would defend herself if she had to. But just as she watched people, a suddenly movement out of the corner of her eye caught her attention.
She glanced over and watched in shock as suddenly a pair of tentacles flew out. They were indeed dangerous looking and, while Agnes despised the people that threatened them, she didn’t want them dead. Thankfully, though, it seemed as if the woman shared this same sentiment and instead of killing her attackers, had simply lashed around them in such a way to send them sprawling off to the sides.
The fallen people provided a brief opening, one that she was definitely going to take advantage of. As they were scattered about, either from being knocked over by the flung bodies, or they were screaming from being attacked by insects, it was enough of an opening for both Agnes and her sister-in-arms. Gently she began to make her way towards the opening, ignoring the shouts of the people and their angry calls.
“Come on,” Agnes said urgently as she tried to make her way towards the opening. “Let’s get out of here before these people do something stu—“
A hand suddenly, and painfully, grasped onto her wrist as she reached the opening. She whipped around to see that same angry looking man that had hurled the bottle as he gripped her, trying to prevent her escape. Apparently he was not ready to let this little encounter go.
The runaway snapped. Eyes wide a little in fear and anger, suddenly she opened her mouth and screech in a unholy, primordial way that was enough to shaken the resolve of the strongest man. Even the person who was gripping her hesitated for half-a-second, and it was a move that would cost him. Suddenly the flies that were beginning to hover aimlessly all seemed to snap to attention at the exact same time. The cloud then began to descend and buffet against her attacker, also drawing the attention of several other flies from the nearby alleys and sewer grates.
The man would have screamed but with flies crawling through his ears and nostrils, it was hard for him to open his mouth to do so. Meanwhile Agnes struggled to pull herself free but in his panic, he grip only held her stronger…
Agnes had escaped! She sighed though, trying to catch her breath as she maneuvered herself towards the book shelves where she knew the poetry books were housed. Though she knew that Rebecca was not literally trying to distract her, Agnes knew that the only way she would get her homework and studying done was if she managed to find at least some way in order to calm down. Separating herself from her sweet, redheaded girlfriend seemed to be exactly what the doctor ordered…
…great, NOW she was imagining Rebecca in a nurses outfit! SO not cool!
The young insect queen sighed for a second as she rest her forehead against the well kept bookshelves. She was actually beginning to consider that her idea of studying with the redhead was a bit of a mistake. They were both starved for one another’s attentions, they were under stress to be ready for finals, and there was just a lot going on in their lives. They could not give into one another right now since they needed to focus. But it just seemed like every passing second it was proving to be more and more impossible for each other. Well, maybe Agnes more than Rebecca since she was not exactly sure how Rebecca was feeling about this whole situation.
But Agnes shook her head and tossed all those thoughts out the window. No! She needed to stop thinking about things and just focus on getting this job done. Once she was done studying, she could kiss Rebecca on the forehead and return to her room where she could soundly sleep until tomorrow and start the process all over again.
Finals were not THAT far away, right?
One deep breath and Agnes raised her eyes back to the stacks. She hoped she could find a book that would help with this damn paper…
>> "Nae tae distract ye, bit Ah remember a great book on sexuality in poetry."
Agnes blinked as she turned back to Rebecca. The young Scot had removed herself from her seat and sauntered over, glancing at the bookshelves. Agnes did not stare but simply nodded. She needed all the help that she could get and if Rebecca had a good tip for her, damn straight she was going to take it. A calm smile on her lips, she nodded appreciatively as she stepped back in order to give Rebecca room to glance over all the books on the shelf. They all seemed like so many and had nearly the exact same title (at least to Agnes since she didn’t understand many of the titles).
But she would trust Rebecca.
Crystal blue eyes scanned Rebecca as she stepped over and looked over the books. The redhead indeed looked very attractive in her black shirt and shorts that, Agnes felt, were probably far too dangerous for her to be wearing in front of the young runaway. Soon she found her eyes roaming, following the curves of Rebecca’s body while she struggling to keep her arms crossed over her own chest. Steel; her resolve was a steel door that she was not going to push open.
No matter how tantalizing Rebecca looked, or how much she wanted to take her into her arms, or how desperate she was to kiss her lips. Studying was most important! She had to study!
>> "There it is! One sec."
Rebecca smiled triumphantly and began to lean up in order to reach for the book that she had been talking about moments ago. Then, Agnes saw the pale skin of her flat stomach, a full view of the shorts she wore and suddenly Agnes felt cracks all over her fortress of resolve. Cautiously she had stepped forward her wings aching to buzz but she kept them at bay as she made a step or two towards the Scot. Soon, she was directly behind her and as soon as she caught the scent of Rebecca’s shampoo…that was in.
The fortress cracked in half and most of her reason was flooding out and away…
Looming behind the redheaded beauty, Agnes leaned down slowly as she paced her chin on Rebecca’s shoulder. The scent of her hair filled the runaway’s nostrils and it was almost as if Agnes getting ready to molt again and Rebecca was just a large sweet pastry. In the seconds that followed after she cutely rested her chin on the redhead’s shoulder, Agnes slowly wrapped her arms around Rebecca’s waist from behind, fingertips running across her stomach as she gently pressed her lips upon her girlfriend’s neck.
She had to stop herself. She knew she did. But right now, just as she brushed her lips upon that pale, freckled skin, the reasoning to halt her actions all flew out the window.
>> "We never hurt any of you so why do you all insist on spewing such hateful filth from your mouths?"
Agnes had to applaud her fellow mutant for trying to bring some reason to this madness but Agnes knew just how hopeless it was. After all, it was like trying to shout at a wildfire for an explanation. A single person could, conceivably be reasoned with, but when one wild person stirred up the flames amongst an entire group, the fire was very quick to spread and encompass everyone involved. It was easy to see that there was not going to be any reasoning with this motley crew gathered.
The fire was started and the flames had already spread to absolutely everyone. They were not going to be able to calm this with talk.
That was further prove when the bottled smashed against the other woman’s arm. Agnes squeaked a bit I surprise…then grew angry once she saw the wide-eyed look in her eyes. It was obvious that the both of them had had absolutely enough of this whole situation.
>> "I don't like this."
“Neither do I,”n Agnes responded.
It was getting harder to talk because the swarm was beginning to grow restless. She could feel the crawling, the itchiness instead her body. They wanted to come out, they wanted to protect their queen. So stressed was she that her wings were inadvertently fluttering with a deafening buzz to the point that she was nearly lifted off of her feet. But Agnes stayed on the ground. She was not going to leave this young mutant to this crowd, especially since she could not carry her away. So Agnes remained still, body arched in a more defensive posture as the buzzing from her chest grew even louder.
The circle around them began to close in. Despite the appearance of tubes from around the purple girl, only a few were taken aback to stand down. The rest though, they were indeed stupid enough to continue pressing in closer. Eyes filled with malice, mouth twisted into dark grimaces, the angry crowd, with blood pumping full of anti-mutant resentment, closed in.
It was only when that got too close for comfort that Agnes finally stood in front of the purple girl.
“Stay behind me,” she managed to say.
Then, mouth opened wide, Agnes gasped as suddenly a black and yellow cloud erupted from between her lips. Though this cloud looking like a malevolent mist, it in fact, was a living, undulating mass of wasps and black flies that buzzed around dangerously. Onto the ground fell a mass of thick roaches and skittered and ran around her feet defensively while the cloud itself hovered dangerously in the air. The sight was enough to make the mob stop and take notice, but they took notice a second too late as the insects descended onto the nearest man with a look of hatred in his eyes.
>> “I hope those wings of yours offer some sort of defence,"
Agnes really did not like the sound of that. Her world was switching out simply too fast around her. First she was simply walking along, trying to get out of the way of some movers, then someone falls on her, and now a crowd is gathered, with many people who look like they wanted nothing more than to drive her into the ground and kill her! It was simply not right! Hadn’t she been through enough in the past two minutes? But apparently the answer to that was no because, as Agnes tried to make her way towards the opening that she had seen, it was quickly covered up by more bodies.
Slurs like “mutie” were being shot at both she and the young purple woman again and that was immediately beginning to rise Agnes’ dander. The two of them had done absolutely nothing to warrant this discrimination but apparently just having a physical mutation was enough to target them.
Her wings fluttered angrily as she tried to keep herself under control. The last thing she wanted was to unleash her swarm upon a bunch of close-minded, unsuspecting people. But then she saw it, the coffee cup that went soaring through the air. Agnes maneuvered away and watched as it sailed over the other woman’s shoulder. It felt harmlessly to the ground but spilled it contents as well.
Was that coffee hot? Did someone really just try to scald the poor woman when she did absolutely nothing wrong? Agnes narrowed her eyes as that familiar buzzing began to start up in her chest again.
Agnes kept herself next to the young as she tried to eye for some place of escape. She insects could certainly cause enough of a distraction if they needed it.
“Damn it, get out of here!” she suddenly called out to the gather people. “Just leave us alone!”
“No muties!”
“Mutant go home!”
Agnes eyes went wide. She could feel the flies crawling up her throat but before she could release any, she saw the first sign that this was descending to a bad level; a glass bottle was thrown directly at them…
Agnes was storming away. She was upset and she was trying to remove herself from the situation before she said or did something stupid. Agnes knew that Emerald had a point, that Rebecca could not be protected forever, but Agnes wanted to do that for her. It made her feel good that there was at least some people out in the world who managed to hold onto their innocence for a fair length of time after she had lost her innocent views of the world thanks to her parents’ actions at such a young age.
It simply was not right. Rebecca was so sweet and she had such a good heart that Agnes did not want to see her running into the field of battle. Why did the world have to blur lines? Why could Rebecca just stay sweet and out of the line of danger? It was not far.
But as she stormed on she heard the soft padding of paws next to her. She rolled her eyes again and huffed as she tried to walk faster, trying to get back to her room so that she could slam the door and ignore Emerald for a while. She needed the peace and quiet and serenity of her room; her one sanctuary in this whole school.
Unfortunately, not even on her best day, could Agnes out walk a speedy werewolf. Soon Emerald had slipped by and, further up ahead, had shifted back into her human form. Agnes sighed as she came to a stop, realizing that there really was no way for her to slip around Emerald since she was barring the hall. Turning back around would lead to nothing, either, since more than likely Emerald would just follow her back to the music room.
She narrowed her eyes as she watched her.
>> "You're right, I didn't see the look in her eyes when you told her about you're past. Watching innocence die isn't an easy thing to watch happen, especially if it's someone close to you. Me and my baby sister were in the camps during registration, believe it or not I get what you're saying,”
Agnes simply tilted her head in the other direction as she watched the woman. If Emerald was so knowledgeable about this, then why the hell did she encourage it? Why couldn’t she just let Rebecca turned her happy little butt away from a career of X-Men and instead pursue just a quiet and calm life? Why did she have to agree to Rebecca’s plans? It was not that Agnes was mad that Rebecca received bruises from Emerald, she was mad because her girlfriend was encouraged to do something this dangerous instead of being shown just how dangerous the life was.
Training was one thing. Joining the X-Men…faaaaaar different.
>> "You don't think it killed me when Ruby asked me if she could learn how to fight? I didn't want her to see what I saw, but then I saw something in Ruby that I saw in Rebecca, it was that steely determination that you had when you were facing me down. They want to make a difference in this screwed to hell world of ours. They see people like us and try to help us out, even if we know we can take care of ourselves. But Rebecca and Ruby, they don't want to see anybody get hurt like us.And that's something we just have to respect because hell, nor threats nor anything else in this stupid world will stop them. Because they love our stupid a***es too much which is why we just gotta respect that and protect them too. "
Agnes sighed as she listened. Emerald did have a point. Rebecca did have a certain type of determination about her that it would make it hard to persuade her to think otherwise about her decisions but all that should have been enough for Emerald to know not to make the mistake of encouraging the decision. SHE WAS AN X-MAN! She should have known better than to do that, especially since she knew the types of dangers they got into!
She clenched her jaws, her gaze narrowing onto Emerald to a near pinpoint accuracy as she tried to let the woman’s words sink in. She knew that Rebecca loved her, she truly did, but that did not mean she needed a protector at the same time. There was a lot of respect in her heart for Rebecca, especially after everything that they went through, but she was still fuming over this revelation. Maybe that was why her mouth moved faster than her brain today.
Just watching the she-wolf get her last word in (as she tended to do), Agnes felt her anger well up inside her heart. She was tired of her concerns being treated as if they were groundless…
“Stay away from her, Emerald,” she said with true warning in her voice. “Just…stay away from her…or else…” she muttered with clenched fist and walked the hall, ready to finally head back to her room.
It was needless to say that Agnes was fuming. Not just because Rebecca had kept this secret from her, but also because both she and Emerald were doing this behind her back. In Agnes’ mind, it was not right. All she ever wanted was a calm and peaceful life and it seemed that at every turn she was denied it. First her home of horrendous, then she had to live in the streets, then once she found a home, her past still managed to find her here! And now Rebecca was throwing herself into the line of danger thinking that she needs protection too?
For too long people have been wanting to protect Agnes and there is only so much that the “damsel-in-distress” can undergo. She was more than tired about hearing how people needed to protect her…
>> "I'm not teaching her how to stop a bullet for you with her chest, I'm teaching her how to be smart! How to help you, which is what she wants, whether you want her to learn it or not. She asked me to teach her and wolves don't go back on our promises!"
Agnes rolled her eyes. There went Emerald with her growling and baring of teeth. Despite all that, while most people would have been scared, Agnes simply was not in the mood. She had enough on her mind already, now including Rebecca learning to fight, to really care whether or not she was breaking some wolf pack protocol.
Agnes was far worse than an irritated wolf…she was a pissed off girlfriend…
>> "Damn it, she didn't learn how to survive like we did, that girl has had no hardships in her life so it was a hell of a rude awakening when whatever happened to her and you her that made her want to protect you so damn much. She loves you, and mates protect their mates in any way they can. Also what I'm teaching her isn't completely about fighting it's about defending yourself and others first. I'm making sure she doesn't die if she decides to protect you or anyone else that needs her help. She wanted to be an X-man, someone that protects people and as her mate you should be damn well supportive of that!"
Defiant to the end, Agnes glared as Emerald turned her back on her and stormed back to the piano to collect her things. What right did Emerald have being upset? Self-defense training is one thing but encouraging Rebecca to be an X-Man, to willing throw herself in danger was absolutely ridiculous! Agnes was fuming. And though she liked Emerald, she really did not want to be around her right now, especially since she now needed to talk to Rebecca about this.
“You’re right. She didn’t have the upbringing that you and I had,” Agnes confirmed in with nod. “But now that she was encouraged to be an X-Man, she is going to see A LOT more of it. THAT is what I was protecting her from. Day-to-day dangers, fine, people live with that. But now she will go on missions and see the worst of the worst! You didn’t the look in her eyes when I told her what was done to me. It was like something died. That should have been enough, Emerald. That should have been enough.”
Just as angry, and just as bold, Agnes angrily picked up her violin case and stormed out of the music room. Tears stung her eyes. She knew, somewhere in the back of her mind, that Emerald was right, that Rebecca could not have been shielded forever from the horrors of the world. But being an X-man? That was just far too much for her to handle right now. She just could not stand the thought of Rebecca getting it into her head to run head first into danger now…
