The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee smiled when Tarin said that the hat was the first thing that he had packed. That made complete sense for him.
And obviously, Tarin had had to leave stuff behind when he came to this world. It wasn't like you had been able to rent a moving truck and drive it through an interdimensional rip in the middle of Central Park.
"What kind of things did you have to leave?" Lee ended up asking softly. Part of her wondered how she could have not wondered this before. Though, the question would have seemed far more relevant six years earlier when he had first arrived. Maybe Lee hadn't thought about asking because by the time she had gotten to know Tarin, he had been here for years and was well established in the shop.
"Ringette is…" Lee said slowly, thinking about how to explain her very limited knowledge of the sport. "It's kind of like hockey, but uses a rubber ring instead of a puck, and there's no contact. And a lot more passing than in hockey."
She really hadn't played piano for Tarin yet, had she? The keyboard had been right there, sitting on the other side of the room since before he had moved in, they had even talked about it a few times, yet Lee had not yet played for him.
"Maybe when we actually get up?" Lee suggested. At least that way she wouldn't forget again. Hopefully. "Depending on what kind of thing you want me to play, anyway. I can actually play piano, and sing, from sheet music, so there's a whole lot more options available."

Lee listened as Tarin explained how there was always some kind of game on back when he was at home, either on the radio or playing on TV. But that all the work on the farm had kept him, or the family as a whole, from being able to do more.
Then 'they' did fundraisers at the stadium? They could only be one thing with the way that Tarin said it. But Tarin was actually remembering this as a happy memory, and Lee couldn't help but smile as she listened to him.
And of course the first thing he had done was to go and read about the team. That was such a Tarin thing to do that it made Lee's smile widen.
As much as she hated the entire group that Tarin had ended up with when he got to New York, she was glad that they had, if indirectly, given him baseball.
But then Tarin told her about getting his hat, and Lee shook her head. "Not a frivolous purchase," Lee told him. "An investment. What would have happened if you hadn't brought it with you?"
Lee laid her head back down on Tarin's shoulder, the smile still on her face for a few moments before she spoke again. "My parents kept trying to get me into sports," she ended up saying. "Soccer, baseball, dance. Even hockey and ringette at one point. Eventually they gave up and let me take voice lessons as well as my piano lessons."

How Tarin had become a baseball fan? Lee couldn't remember him ever mentioning anything like that before. He had talked about baseball a lot, too, I've the past six months. About the rules, the players, other teams, history. Explaining there were actually two separate leagues that played together.
That one had taken a few different times with Tarin explaining for Lee to properly understand.
But not once had he told her how he had become a baseball fan. Or even hinted that there was a story there in the first place.
"I mean, baseball is a big thing in the States," Lee replied after a few moments thought. "Moreso in Texas, it seems. I just figured that was why."
Because she had looked up at Tarin when he asked about her siphoning, Lee saw and heard the sigh of relief when she told him she'd remembered.
Her crash earlier in the month, while unique in the fact that she had actually woken up with energy, had not been good. They never were.
She had known since the museum that a crash was going to happen. Five days later, when she was on her sixth day without sleep, Lee had given Tarin instructions for when it happened. To wake her up after 8 hours if he knew what time she had taken asleep. After 5 hours if he found her asleep and didn't know when she fell asleep.
And while simply today would have put her at no risk of crashing had she forgotten to turn her siphoning off, Lee knew that neither of them wanted her to go without sleep again any time soon.
"We were both very distracted. I don't blame you for not remembering."

It did feel rather weird that the game was already over. The only times Lee had watched a baseball game, actually any game outside of the Olympics or the World Juniors tournament, that had been this early in the day had been on the weekend. So it was very strange that the game was over and there was still so much of the day left.
Tarin's hand had started running up and down her arm, goosebumps once again spreading under his touch. And as he asked about her plans, a shiver ran through Lee's body.
"No, no other plans," she told him. "I knew how important all of this was for you. Plus, it's an excuse to be able to spend the entire day together." Even if they had just spent the entire weekend together. This was a weekday, so that made the time special.
Feeling Tarin move, Lee turned her head to look at him. "I did," she told him. "Barely, but I remembered."

Lee smiled when Tarin reciprocated the 'I love you'. Yes, they had first said those words months earlier, and Lee had known she'd loved Tarin, and that he loved her, for even longer than that. But hearing it, especially with what they had just been talking about…
Lee wasn't sure why, but it felt just a little bit more special.
Lee had been surprised when Tarin had suddenly declared that this had been the best six months of his life. If she really thought about it, it did make sense. As Tarin had said, a lot of his life hadn't been bad, it had been fine.
But once he had moved in to the apartment here, there had been a lot of good things that had happened. Things that Tarin hadn't really thought were possible. Things that wouldn't have been possible for him without how he had actually opened up to her.
Yes, there had also been bad things that had happened in the previous six months: the building collapse, the mystic, this whole adapted situation. But they had, were, getting through it all together, which certainly made it easier. Better.
And they really weren't as bad as a lot of the bad things that had happened to her in the past, Lee realized.
Before she was able to think more deeply about that, Lee felt Tarin kiss the side of her head, and she smiled, turning her head to look up at him. "We still have the entire evening ahead of us, don't we?" she asked.

Tarin had been rethinking his opinion on buttons? If she had been wearing a shirt that had buttons would have made it easier to remove. Or, at least they would have been able to remove her shirt without stopping the kiss.
Maybe they both needed to wear shirts with buttons. At least if they were able to undo the buttons. She had had issues with the button on his jeans.
As Lee was talking about how many years, Tarin's arms tightened around her and Lee smiled wider. Obviously she didn't and couldn't know what was going to happen in 20 years, or even 2 years. And she knew that life, unfortunately, did not always work out the way that you wanted it to.
But at this point in time, Lee couldn't imagine her future without Tarin.
"Well, good," Lee said as she leaned in to kiss Tarin. "I love you."

Lee bit her lip slightly as she smiled when she felt Tarin squirming a bit as her hand moved. Even after everything that had just happened, it was good to know that with as distracting his abs were that just touching them got this reaction.
When Tarin spoke, though, Lee laughed. "That would make things quite a bit easier," she agreed.
Lee had thought that Tarin might take a little longer to answer her question, but when he spoke, a blush started to spread. Just be herself?
"Well, that will certainly make things easier," Lee replied, a smile on her face as she laid there. "Because I can't think of a single reason I'll stop saying I love you…And I don't think we could stop this…"
At least, Lee really hoped that that would never change. Yes, it could be a little overwhelming or inconvenient at times, but it was also amazing.
"Then we can work on best two years," Lee continued in a whisper. "Then five…ten…twenty years…"

Lee was still breathing heavily as she lay there with Tarin on the couch, eyes closed with her head on his shoulder. Almost from the first kiss, everything had been intense. So much more so than Lee understood how it could be. To the point that they hadn't even made it to either of their bedrooms.
The couch had worked out, though. And as always, it had been absolutely incredible.
"I wasn't lying earlier," Lee ended up murmuring as a hand ran down Tarin's chest until it came to rest on his stomach. "These abs of yours…Very distracting…"
And they really were, as she just lay there, her hand resting on his stomach feeling the muscles under the skin.
"So," Lee said softly after a good minute had passed. "How do we keep this going and turn the best six months of your life into the best year?"

Tarin was still holding her hands as they started kissing and Lee just leaned into him as she returned the kiss. And as he kissed his way down her neck.
The last time she had tried to actually do anything with her hands it had been too much. Both for her to focus on and for Tarin to handle, so Lee just let her hands stay there, by her sides, as Tarin held them.
But when she turned her head to kiss him again, he let go of her hands. Almost instantly, Lee's arms lifted, wrapping around Tarin's neck again and pulling herself closer.
Even as she felt Tarin's hands on her legs. On her bare legs. And they started to slide up, under her skirt. Moaning into the kiss, Lee shuddered. She wasn't thinking about what it was Tarin was doing, or what he might be trying to do. She was simply loving the way his touch felt.
It didn't take that long for him to reach the waistband of her skirt. Though her skirts did tend to be longer than they had been when she was younger, few of Lee's skirts were all that long. However, it did take Lee a little longer than that to realize what Tarin was attempting to do
When she finally figured it out, Lee's hands moved to Tarin's shoulders, pulling herself up slightly, shifting on Tarin's lap a bit, to make it easier for him to pull her skirt down.

The kissing, Tarin holding her, attempting to undo Tarin's jeans. That was all too much for her to try and focus on which was why she was having so much trouble with the jeans. So Lee didn't even notice the change in Tarin's breathing until she heard him groan and push her back.
Lee's own breathing was heavy as she looked back at Tarin in slight concern turning to confusion before understanding slowly crossed her face as Tarin's hands slid down her arms to help her with undoing his pants.
"Your abs," Lee said as she tried catching her breath. "Very distracting."
Tarin was much quicker at the task than she had been, and then he was pulling her hands toward her sides as he leaned in to kiss her again.
But even that didn't last too long as he started to kiss along her jaw and then down her neck.
A hard shudder ran through Lee's entire body, followed by a moan as her head fell to the side, exposing more of her neck.
Then Tarin was asking about there or her room. That in itself was unusual, almost always they ended up in Tarin's room.
Lee's response was even more different. "Too far," she whispered with a shake of her head. "Here." Then she turned her head to kiss Tarin again.

Lee was trying to focus on undoing Tarin jeans. She really was. But it was a really hard thing to do right then; focus. With the kiss, and the way that Tarin was holding her, the feeling of his hand still in her hair. She really was trying hard to get those jeans undone, but her hands kept slipping and fumbling, her fingers brushing up against his stomach.
That only added to her difficulties. Lee knew that Tarin was in shape, but unlike a lot of guys, such as many who went to her gym, who worked out for strength, most of Tarin's muscles were not obvious through clothing. They, and the hard definition of his abs, most certainly were obvious each and every time Lee's fingers brushed against his stomach.
And her hands frequently stopped moving altogether for a moment or two when she touched his stomach like that.
After a while, part of Lee's barely working mind realized that she was likely not going to get Tarin's jeans undone while they were kissing. But at that moment, not kissing was not an acceptable option, so she just continued fumbling along.

Lee rolled her eyes when Quin mentioned how school had been around the time that all that had happened. "How considerate that they actually cancelled classes when the city was literally under attack," she said sarcastically.
And Quin had mentioned something about working for a senator, hadn't she? That would be a lot more work for her with the upcoming election than normal, wouldn't it? Things did not sound like they were going to ease up for Quin for at least a couple months.
And Quin was alright because the senator had told her there was no trouble she'd get into because of what happened at the museum. That was the least of what Lee was getting at, and far from the 'issues' she had hinted at.
"Not a whole lot else we could have done," Lee admitted. "Not when Michael was already pulling the X-Men and others in weeks before all that to help. At least that's what Michael said when they showed up at Tarin's shop asking for his help."
"But, it was serious enough that, as far as I know, the only full X-Man at the museum was Kealey, and she retired years ago and Michael called me knowing that I've done everything possible to stay out of dangerous situations for the better part of the last decade."
Lee shook her head as they walked. The group that had been gathered for the museum, the group whose job that day was to deal with a 5000 year old mystic, had been trainees, 'retired' mothers, and people who hadn't signed up for that kind of thing ever. It really had been a bit of a mess.
"I'm glad that the senator reassured you about there being no trouble or legal issues," Lee went on to say, glancing up at Quin. "I've never even considered becoming a cop or X-Man, but there's a reason I started training and sparring like I do. Trouble and danger never seemed to have an issue finding me. And those weren't the issues I was referring to. So are you actually doing alright?"

This was better. Lee was just as close to Tarin as she had been before, but now there was no offending shirts in the way. From her waist up, everywhere that she was touching him, she was able to feel his skin. Her chest pressed close against his. Even more energy flowing into her from every single point of contact.
She definitely needed to stop that if she wanted to have any chance of sleeping later, and she had definitely had enough run together sleepless days in the previous month to last her a long time.
As her focus shifted for a moment from Tarin and the kiss to shutting off her siphoning, Lee's…enthusiasm in the kiss may have waned for a moment, but the moment she felt the flow of energy stop, Lee dove back in with just as much passion and need as she had had before.
Then Lee felt one of Tarin's arms wrapping around her waist, his hand on her opposite hip. Pulling her even closer if it was possible, holding her tighter against his body. Tarin felt so good, so amazing pressed up against her.
But it also wasn't enough. Not nearly enough.
Lee's fingers dug into Tarin's shoulders a bit as she tried to pull herself even closer to him.
Still not enough.
Letting go of Tarin's shoulder and hair, Lee moved her hands down to his waist, pushing into the nonexistent space between them, to start working on undoing his jeans.

Lee really wasn't waiting long at all when she saw Quin making her way from the elevator. And Quin informed Lee as she was approaching that they could get coffee or tea at the restaurant.
Lee nodded in understanding. "Either works for me," she informed the younger woman. "I spent a solid four years with my apartment in Toronto looking like that. Only there were piles of children's toys scattered about too."
Now that Quin had reached her, Lee turned and started walking in the direction of the restaurant. Assuming it was in the same place as it had been six years earlier.
"I know you were training only as a 'just in case' something happened," Lee started as they walked. "That you never intended to be in a situation anything close to what happened at the museum. To be honest, I hadn't either."
"So how are you handling it all?" Lee asked, looking up at the redhead. "I know it can be hard to deal after things like that. And that not dealing with things because you're busy simply delays issues, it doesn't avoid them."

The good thing about being pressed this close to Tarin, about him holding her this tightly to him, was that she was this close to Tarin. The downside to being this close to Tarink, especially while on the couch, was that it was extremely hard to move Tarin's shirt up, never mind to get it off him.
Plus there was the fact that even if she had gotten it most of the way off, they were kissing which would stop that from being completed.
Tarin must have realized this as well, because then, unfortunately, his hands were moving out of her hair and he was pulling back from the kiss. And while those few moments were almost torturous with how far (not) apart they were, it did allow Lee to pull Tarin's shirt over his head and discard it somewhere as he did the same.
The moment that both shirts were out of the way, Lee was leaning into Tarin again as she felt his hands tangle in her hair again. God, why did that feel so good? She loved that it did, but Lee didn't understand why it felt so incredible.
Even as they were starting to kiss again, Lee heard Tarin mumbling against her lips. Something about buttons. She hadn't worn buttons in months. Whatever. That wasn't important. The kiss was important.
And so Lee deepened the kiss as a hand found its way back to Tarin's hair, her other gripping his now bare shoulder.
