The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When cheerleader guy talked back to her, Lee's eyebrows raised in surprise. He thought him being a cheerleader as innocent guards being compelled by an ancient mystic were beaten was appropriate? Lee just hoped that they could get rid of him before they got inside and things actually got serious.
As Lee started to siphon from her third guard, Lee heard Kealey doing more to chastise her teammates for not exactly following the 'don't harm the guards' directions. That was good, because it sounded like how the others had restrained the other guards wasn't going to be good enough; the guards may still end up hurting themselves due to the compulsion they were under if they were left conscious.
This was not going to be fun. She already felt like she was almost vibrating from the energy she had. She had never siphoned from six people before. But she had also never found the upper limit of how much she was able to take.
Maybe today she would. At least she should be able to burn a lot of it off inside, Lee thought. Because as it was now, she would crash in a week even if she turned her siphoning off that entire time.
Wait, the cheerleader wasn't part of the X-Men? Then why had he been in their vehicle? Why was he even there?
"I can take care of the guards not being able to hurt themselves," Lee said as she let Tony catch guard number three as he passed out. "But we might want to at least get them out of the parking lot because they're going to be asleep for about the next 10 hours."
That said, Lee made her way over to the guard that Ashton had 'restrained' first to siphon and render him unconscious before doing the same with the remaining guards.

Tarin didn't say anything when she explained how she felt about the spirits. Didn't say anything, but also didn't question it, just nodded.
Spirits in general weren't important at that moment anyway. One particular spirit and what they had done while in control of Tarin's body were what was important, what they were dealing with at that moment.
At least Tarin opened his eyes to look at her when her hands touched his face, and Lee looked steadily back up at him. "No," Lee told him, her voice still gentle, but with a firmness behind it. "You did not. That asshole of a spirit did all of that. And had at least two other times before you even had an idea that this world existed."
Keeping her hands on his face, Lee stretched up and gave Tarin a soft kiss. "None of that was your fault. It was him. I just wish I had put the pieces together sooner."

Tarin thought she didn't like to be in the shop? "No. I mean, it was definitely weird being back here again at first," she tried to explain. "And I'm fine being around during sessions, I just…almost feel like I'm intruding when Idon't have something to distract myself and tune out what's being said."
"But the spirits…" Lee paused a moment to try and figure out howto word her thoughts and feelings about them. "I had so rarely directly interacted with, or even really saw spirits, and most of those situations were not good. But I think working with Tony has helped. And just…seeing them more? Especially when they're not what is causing the issues."
Lee hoped that made sense to Tarin. Hopefully it would. He had understood things she's tried to explain when no one else had in the past.
Then Tarin let his arms fall from around her, and Lee looked up at him, with Tarin not looking back at her. "You don't need this either," she pointed out as she lifted her hands and placed one on either side of Tarin's face. "Yet this is what we have to deal with. So we will deal with it."

Lee raised an eyebrow when Tarin told her that it was fine. They hadn't really ever talked about it, but it was pretty well established by now that when one of them said that they were 'fine', the reality was that they were anything but.
"There's reason to cancel if you're not in the right headspace to work," Lee pointed out gently. And the fact that Tarin wasn't moving away from her, that he was still hugging her the same way, Lee knew that he was definitely not in the right headspace to work. Not with what work meant.
"'Hanging out' here isn't an issue," Lee went on to tell him earnestly. "It's just kind of weird not having stuff to do. I was here every day for years."
"But, maybe home would be good," Lee continued, closing the bit of a gap she'd put between them to hug him again. Right now, the apartment would probably be a lot better for Tarin. "Whenever you're ready. I'm in no rush."

Tarin was trying to tell her that he was alright. Lee knew that wasn't true. Not with how he was after a nightmare. And how could he have expected that to have ever happened? It's not like he was the only medium in New York.
But Tarin's arms were around her now, so Lee just stood there hugging him even after he had asked if she wanted to head home.
Lee stood there just hugging Tarin until he said that there should be time before the next appointment. Then Lee pulled back to look up at Tarin, though her arms were still wrapped around him. "The next appointment?" Lee asked, her brow furrowed.
After a moment, Lee shook her head. "I didn't want you to cancel just to walk me home, but you can cancel appointments if you need to," she told him. This was a perfect example of when he should cancel, because Lee was sure that after what had just happened, Tarin wasn't in any shape to deal with random spirits.

At least Tarin was coming back into the shop easily. The month that he was through the doorway, Lee pulled the door closed and locked it.
Once they had gotten into the back, Lee trust turned to face Tarin as he was saying something about a form.
Shaking her head, Lee let go of Tarin's hand. She could only imagine what Tarin could be thinking at the moment. What thoughts were going through his head. What memories might have surfaced.
Lee knew that Tarin was still having nightmares about the merge. She'd walked into one of them over the summer. They weren't as frequent as they had once been, but Lee still had to wake Tarin up from them often enough that she couldn't say that they had gone away.
Stepping close, Lee wrapped her arms around Tarin, hugging him snugly. "Are you ok?" she asked softly. "Is there anything I can do?"

If Lee had had any question remaining about what was going on in the front of the shop, that was answered with how quickly Tarin said that the spirit they were looking for wasn't there. Closing her eyes, Lee took a deep breath. This was not good. Not good on many different levels. And definitely not what they needed now.
Standing, Lee quietly walked toward the short hallway that led to the front of the shop, but didn't round the corner so she would still be hidden from view.
Probably as quickly as he could at that point without appearing rude, Tarin was working on getting the client, clients, out of the shop. Hearing the bell over the door as it was opened, Lee closed her eyes and focused on her siphoning. Waiting until they were out the door and making their way down the street finally before she rushed out to the front of the shop.
"Tarin," Lee called gently as she moved through the front of the shop. But he wasn't moving. Tarin was still standing at the door, partially outside.
"Come on, Tarin," Lee said gently as she reached him. "Lets head to the back." Grabbing his hand, Lee tugged Tarin back into the shop.

As Lee sat there and began to sort out where she was going to start, Lee could hear Tarin starting the session. And though she was trying not to intrude by listening in to the session. But either Lee had forgotten how much you were able to hear when a session was going on, or the walls had gotten thinner.
And there were definite differences in how Tarin ran sessions compared to how her ex had run them. But based on how busy Tarin's schedule normally was, either his clients didn't care about the differences, or didn't know.
Trying again to push the voices out of her attention, Lee started sorting through invoices.
But as the voices continued to drift back to her, Lee became very aware of something: it wasn't actually voices now, just a voice. Tarin hadn't spoken since he had asked for more information about why the client was there.
No, Lee was not used to the way that Tarin ran sessions, but it seemed like an excessively long time for him not to say anything. Especially since it wasn't because the client wasn't giving him a chance to speak
Then some of what the client had been saying started to sink in. 'Murdered in the spring'. 'Police say it's a cycle'.
Lee's eyes widened as she strained to hear more of what was going on in the front of the shop.

Lee was really starting to hate having to go outside.
It had been a week since Tarin had been escorting her whenever she was outside, almost two solid weeks of feeling an adapted's field outside of the apartment building.
It made Lee feel helpless that she wasn't able to do something as simple as going outside by herself. She'd only really had this feeling of being stuck like this twice before in her life, and the first time had ended with Lee permanently leaving home.
But she was still feeling the adapted field more than often enough that she wasn't comfortable to leave the apartment on her own. So while she hated having to do it, Lee was still letting Tarin walk her there and back when she needed to do something.
Which had to be getting difficult for Tarin, too, Lee thought. Not only did he have to rearrange his schedule and take fewer clients during the day so he could walk her to the bar and back, that day Lee had run into a problem at work and things had taken longer than usual.
And while Tarin had been about to cancel so he would still be able to walk her back to the appointment, Lee had refused. This was already effecting the shop on a daily basis, Tarin didn't need to cancel more appointments.
Plus, it wasn't like this would be the first time that she had sat in the shop during a session.
So Lee sat down at the table in the back of the shop and pulled out the paperwork she had been planning on doing at home that day.
It really didn't take long, just a few minutes really, before Lee heard the bell over the door. And Tarin had wanted to cancel. Unless the client lived on that block, they had already been on their way to the shop.
Getting to work, Lee could hear the voices in the front of the shop, she tried to tune them out as she got to work.

Going to get danishes was the kind of adventure that Lee could happily deal with. This other stuff…not so much.
But that grin when Tarin mentioned them talking about there never being too much of somethings…Was he actually speaking about pie there, Lee wondered. Honestly, if Lee had to guess, she would have said no.
And yet, Tarin went back to watching people make bread. So Lee settled in more comfortably beside him to watch until the judging started. "That's true, I suppose," Lee agreed softly. "I guess it depends on what you're talking about."
Because while going to that rooftop restaurant with Tarin had been amazing, this was more like what she wanted to do most of the time. "It does make things look better for them," Lee agreed. "Though, wow, that one looks delicious," she continued as they showed a maple bacon bread that she hadn't really noticed while everything was being made.

"It's out of the way but not too far," Lee replied, trying to think of how to explain it. "We never really go over that area for anything, but it's close enough that we could walk there."
Tarin didn't seem to like her plan to make sure that he would get pie, though. Apparently he thought that her being prepared for the pie to not turn out was a self-fulfilling prophecy. "Then you'd have a lot of pie to get to eat?" Lee offered unhelpfully. "And as you just said, you wouldn't complain about having more pie in your life."
Tarin shared his thoughts about how a couple of the contestants did during the challenge and nodded. She knew even less about baking bread than she did about cooking, but the woman she liked in the competition hadn't appeared to have trouble. "I think you're right. But that one looks really fancy," Lee replied, pointing out what one of the men had made. "If it tastes as good as it looks, they could be in trouble."

While Ashton went up to set up the program his training session in, Lee looked around the currently empty room again as she took stock of her energy level. Definitely not great in terms of what she tried to have for a workout. Or for sparring.
But Ashton did say he was going to be working on his powers, not combat, so that boded well for this not being too much for her energy. Plus, she could always back out and not take part if she needed to.
It didn't take too long for objects to start appearing around the room and then Ashton was coming back down. Explaining what this scenario was about.
He wanted her to throw things? Trying to be accurate as part of him being able to teleport where he wanted to. That was definitely not what Lee had been expecting. Especially with him saying there would be wind to make it more difficult.
So why didn't he just do this outside then?
"Ok, so what kind of things are we throwing?" Lee asked. "And what do you mean 'the room will try to stop us'? How?"

Ashton didn't normally use his powers when he sparred. Even though he could teleport himself by switching places with anything else. As long as it wasn't too heavy, he pointed out.
Lee nodded, but seriously wondered why the younger mutant didn't use his powers when sparring. An ability like that could be invaluable in a fight, and it made sense to get as much practice with it as possible. Lee's reasons for not using her powers while she sparred was for the safety of her opponent; she'd only found two people in the previous six years that she'd actually felt she was able to use any measure of her powers on, and one of them was already dead.
"Training your powers like that is good," Lee agreed. Especially if he was here planning to join, or already a member, of the X-Men. "Even if it doesn't seem to help improve your weight limit, it could help hold the headaches off longer."
Lee then looked around the empty danger room before looking back at Ashton. "Did you need to program something in?'

A happy smile spread across Lee's face when Tarin said it was a date. It was such a small, simple thing for them to do, just going to get a pastry and maybe coffee one random morning, but Lee loved the idea of it. "I can't wait," Lee ended up saying.
Though, Lee thought as they sat there watching the show, maybe they wouldn't have to wait forever to be able to do this. While Lee was apprehensive at best at the moment about the idea of going outside, she had not once sensed the adapted when she and Tarin had gone out for their runs. Or anytime before Tarin had headed to the shop. Maybe it would be ok and safe for them to do this sooner rather than later.
The shopping was something else. Lee knew that she could always give Tarin a list of what she would need for the pie and he'd be able to pick it up one night on his way home from the shop. But if she was already out, it wouldn't be as bad to head to the store. And as worried as she was about the idea of going out not knowing who the adapted was or what their plan was, Lee also knew that she wasn't going to be be able to simply stay in the apartment. That day, yes, and possibly the next, but not indefinitely.
"It's a definite maybe," Lee told Tarin with a bit of a smile. "But maybe we could get a store bought one just in case. That way you're not deprived of pie when I mess things up."
And it was time for the bread judging on TV. Turning to watch with more focus, Lee couldn't help but think that everything looked so much better than she could have ever hoped to manage. "how do you think they did?"

The way that Tarin said strawberry was also good made Lee think that while yes he thought that they were good, he was disappointed that strawberry was more common. "We should," Lee agreed. "I haven't stopped by there in forever."
As they watched, Lee couldn't help but think, again, that bread was incredibly difficult and complicated. She had these thoughts each time she and Tarin watched a show that had a bread challenge, but this one just seemed more complicated.
She would stick with the normal loaves of bread she bought at the store.
Speaking of buying from a store, Tarin was perfectly fine with a store bought pie. Well, why wouldn't he be? But that wasn't why she had thought she might try making it again. "I've already been bored in the afternoons with Kevin not here," Lee pointed out. "But we can see how things are next week to decide about getting the ingredients."
