The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Character's full name: Emily Smith (formerly Brooks) Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: (if applicable) Lee Gender: Female Age: 40 Date of Birth: (mm/dd/year) 12/20/1983 Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: Barrie, Ontario, Canada Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: Caucasian
Appearance
Hair color and style: Medium-dark brown, a bit longer than shoulder length. Normally worn slightly curly, unless she’s decided to straighten it. Skin Tone: Fair Eye Color: Grey Height: 5’3” Build: Slightly curvy, but lean. In decent shape.
General Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/Stamina/Flexibility) With doing minimal siphoning, Lee is simply your average 5’3” tall woman who is active but doesn’t lift weights. However, if she’s got more energy, Lee is able to use super speed and strength, which has in the past allowed her to throw a man 100 pounds heavier than her. Stamina, again, is completely dependent on the amount of energy she has, ranging from falling asleep she’s so exhausted to being unable to sleep for 60+ hours. Reflexes and flexibility are average. Other features: (Scars/tattoos/piercings, visible mutations, or any other feature. if applicable) No visible scars (now, emotional/mental, that’s a different story). She has a treble and bass clef tattoo on her left shoulder, and a single piercing in the lobe of each ear.
Everyday clothing style: Generally a skirt and tank or t-shirt during warmer weather often matched with a pair of heels. In the winter, normally a pair of black pants, black leather winter boots (little to no heel ) unless it is snow/ice free, and a warm coat over her t-shirt or sweater. Uniform: (if applicable)
Character
Personality: (How your character behaves, social tendencies, quirks, etc.) Growing up, and into her early twenties, Lee always had a tendency to keep to herself; because of how her family had treated her, she didn’t believe anyone would want to be around her if she's constantly taking energy from them, so it was just emotionally less painful if she kept a distance from everyone in general. Music, and to a lesser degree reading, had been her refuge.
That changed when she met Tarin Brooks years ago. Despite her powers, Tarin almost constantly wanted to be with her, and over time Lee not only started to accept her powers more willingly, but also opened up more in general.
Despite how she tends to keep to herself, Lee can be very outgoing. She is also outspoken, rarely holding back what she thinks, and can have quite a temper when she gets angry at someone.
Morality: Neutral. Lee wants to help people, and has in the past both on her own and on a large scale in Colombia and Romania with the Kabal, though the way that she’s helped hasn’t always been ‘good’ (eg see Columbia). But not at the expense or risk to her family.
Hobbies/ Interests: Music, playing guitar, singing, reading.
Job or part time job and description: Mother. She also handles the administration, financials, and inventory at the Trasheteria (a bar). Since Tarin, her ex-husband, disappeared around the time that the rift closed, she stopped managing the bar at night and also left Haven.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Lee’s biggest fear/ concern through most of her life had been that she would hurt someone with her powers, that she would take too much energy. That fear has largely been dealt with, though there are still niggles of concern every so often.
Now, Lee’s biggest fear is that something will happen to her son, Kevin.
Special talents: (not related to mutation) playing guitar, singing. Worrying. Watching for tells (that others may not even see/notice) that something is wrong with Tarin.
Mutations
Mutation description: Power drain, super speed, super strength (power growth - increasing distances/times - approved 29 Jul 2024)
Lee automatically siphons off a bit of energy from everyone she's around, which keeps her energy level up, but it's not normally enough from people for them to notice (at most, they'd feel a little tired after spending hours with her). But if she actually touches a person, she drains their energy at a faster rate (like a psychic vampire). The amount of energy that Lee siphons decreases the further away a person is. She believes the outer reaches of her ability are about 30-40 feet. The actual edges of her siphoning range is about 50 feet, but she gets such little energy at this distance that she doesn’t feel it. If she drains the energy of a sleeping person, she has the ability to enter their dreams.
This siphoning is where Lee gets her energy, and when she has an abundance of energy, it allows her to use her super speed and super strength (energy dependent on a spectrum from completely average human up to being able to move a car and running up to 55 mph/88 km/h).
Lee has obtained a level of control over her draining where she can generally control how quickly she drains energy from people, turning the speed down to just a trickle (which is how she normally functions), but she can also turn it up to the point that she can touch an adult and drop them to the point of exhausted unconsciousness within minutes. When Lee is worried about potentially taking too much energy, she is able to cause unconsciousness in as little as 90 seconds. When Lee does not care about the person’s condition so much (ex. Columbian drug cartel soldiers), Lee’s subconscious doesn’t hold her back and she is able to reduce them to unconsciousness in under 60 seconds.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Without having people around her to siphon energy from, Lee literally has NO energy. She gets no refreshment from sleep, and if there is no one close enough to siphon from overnight, she wakes up (only with an alarm) worse off than she had been before going to sleep. The opposite is also true when she has too much energy, Lee physically CANNOT sleep, and has on occasions been awake for 130+ hours. However, despite the fact that her body doesn’t necessarily need the sleep, Lee’s brain does, and anytime she’s awake for too long (generally around the 6 day mark) she physically crashes.
Lee also still has issues controlling her powers when is angry or scared. In situations where she is mad or afraid, Lee tends to siphon more naturally, and also has a tendency of moving faster than intended. Using more strength than normal is least common, but if she is doing something that would require more than everyday strength, Lee would likely apply a bit too much in these situations as well.
Enhanced Durability (Approved 20 Aug 2024)
As Lee's energy level increases and that allows her to move with greater speed and strength, Lee's body also increases in durability to be able to withstand the physical stresses that the increased speed and strength place on her body. For example, while running at an increased speed, the force and stress of a sudden stop will not break bones or damage soft tissue in Lee's legs.
Strengths: Lee doesn't have to worry about injuring herself simply because she uses her increased speed or strength. Lee's body does not become more vulnerable than the average human when her energy level is very low.
Weaknesses: This is not an overall increase in durability. Lee's body only increases in durability in relation to her energy level in relation to her increase in speed and strength. It also only makes her body more resilient in terms of things to do with her increased speed and strength. For example, hitting something with more than human strength won't break her hand (foot, etc), but a blade will still cut her no matter how much energy she has.
Power growth: People radar Lee feels her siphoning all the time, can feel the energy flowing into her, and can also feel the difference in energy levels between someone simply standing near her compared to touching her. Through training, both with Sam at the mansion and on her own, Lee developed what she calls “people radar”.
Strengths: Lee is able to differentiate the energy level up to about 10 people, and where they are in relation to her (direction and distance up to about 30 feet away). And, as long as no one is really within 3-5 feet of her, even if she is in a crowd, Lee is able to feel when someone comes within a foot, without effort or focus of her because of the drastic increase in energy, unless she is extremely distracted by something.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Lee still has to think to be able to know the distance someone is from her beyond about 5 feet through her siphoning. As long as there is not a crowd of people, Lee is generally able to identify the direction people are in without much effort. Distance is still more difficult and is definitely not second nature, but she is getting better.
More than about 10 people still throws her off and it basically feels like the energy is coming from all around her. If there are too many people in one place/direction, the energy coming at her could make her think they're closer than they are.
Thus, at the moment this power is useless in crowds, she doesn't even try using it, cause it's just too confusing to try and sort out. About the only of use in crowds is her ability to sense when someone comes really close to her, but even that goes out the window when in tightly packed crowds, like bars. Or often the streets of New York City.
Mini Power Growth (approved 20 Jun 2024) Lee is now able to identify people based on how their energy feels, similar to how you can tell based on hearing someone walk or how they smell. This power takes some time with her being around the person and siphoning their energy for her to become familiar with it.
It takes about 100 hours of simply siphoning energy from a person for Lee to become familiar with it. However, if she makes a conscious effort of sensing a person’s energy, she can cut that time down to a third (eg. 20 minutes of focusing on how a person’s energy feels equates to one hour of general siphoning for this ability).
Pros: Lee will be able to tell who people within her siphoning range are without having to rely on sight or hearing them speak
Cons: With the exception of a few people she is around frequently (for example, as above, her son Kevin who lives with her), this aspect of Lee’s siphoning takes quite a while, so the number of people she will actually be able to identify in the immediate future will be low.
This can also not be ‘backdated’. Meaning people who Lee has previously spent hundreds of hours with in the past are still not able to be identified by Lee’s siphoning until she has spent the required time after this aspect of her siphoning became active.
Power growth: Energy blast (Approved 3 June 2009) As Lee siphons, she gathers energy into her body, the more she siphons, the more energy that builds up. When she releases an energy blast, it shoots a wave of energy out in front of Lee, almost like a shock wave. The strength of the blast is completely dependent on how much energy Lee has.
Strengths: Lee is capable of gathering quite a bit of energy, so the blast has the potential of being quite strong.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Lee has little control over how much energy is released during the blast. The more energy that Lee has, the more energy is released in the blast. Unless she is very focused on trying to hold some energy back, the blast drains Lee's energy so much that without doing more than her normal siphoning, she is tired and quite worn afterward. And with her drop in her energy level, Lee's speed and strength will also drop dramatically.
Power growth: Approved 11 Jan 2018 Lee is now actually able to stop her siphoning.
Pros: Now that Lee is able to shut off her siphoning, there is no reason for Lee to be up for days at a time nor for her to take energy from people when they really need it. This is basically just a decision that she makes, kind of like flipping an internal switch. It is easier and faster to do when she closes her eyes and focuses for a moment, though.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Despite being able to stop siphoning, Lee is still not able to produce her own energy, and is still dependant on siphoning in order to function. Lee is also unable to use her people radar when her siphoning is off.
History Of Your Character Lee was raised in Barrie, Ontario by her parents Mary and Dave Smith. She has one brother three years older named Robert “Bobby”, a sister named Rachel two years younger than her, and another brother five years younger named Doug.
Lee's powers first noticeably manifested themselves just before her 14th birthday. The first one she noticed was the strength, although she couldn’t really explain it since it wasn’t always there. It was about six months later when she started figuring out what was causing the extra strength. And it was only then that Lee realized something else that had slowly developed over the previous two years; her energy level always seemed to be at its peak when she was in a group of people for a decent length of time. At school, she would always have a ton of energy, but when she was at home doing homework her energy level would drop dramatically.
At first, Lee's parents thought that her powers were a weird medical condition since they were all very frequently very tired. And so they took her, and the rest of the family, to about a dozen doctors in the next year. But slowly they began to realize that it wasn’t medical, that there was something different about her.
By the time she was 15, Lee's family was all but shunning her, despite the fact that she was still living in the house. Her parents pulled her out of school so that people wouldn't find out about her being a mutant, and they all but refused to be in the same room as her. So, by her 16th birthday, Lee had run away from home and found herself living on the streets of Toronto.
While in Toronto for the next few years, Lee managed to pull things together, finding odd jobs, getting an apartment, and even finishing high school by correspondence.
But things didn't go so well in Toronto, and Lee ended up moving first to Windsor, and then finally making her way to New York. It was there that things changed almost beyond belief for Lee. Not only did New York feel more like home than anywhere else had since she was a child, but Lee also ran into a man named Tarin Brooks. And, despite her powers, Tarin still wanted to spend time with her, be around her. And very quickly she ended up falling in love with him.
By the time they had been together for 5 months, they were engaged, a really quick time period for most people, but things between her and Tarin had to move that quickly or they wouldn't have survived even the first week of their relationship.
Long story short, Lee got engaged, un-engaged, sent to the Mutant Concentration Camps, broke out, went back to Canada, came back to New York, got back together with Tarin, got engaged again, eloped in Las Vegas, joined the Kabal, went to Colombia, Romania, died and was resurrected, came home, had a baby.
And then things started to change. It felt harder and harder to stay in New York, more dangerous to live as a mutant in the city, and that scared Lee as a mother. Pressures built, Lee ended up leaving the country and going back to Canada, which just put even more pressure on the relationship. Eventually, they ended up divorcing.
In 2017, Lee promised her sister Rachel to help her get her own boutique opened. Lee had assumed that this boutique would be in Toronto, where Rachel had gone to school and worked for the previous decade.
Suddenly, Lee found herself back in New York with all the discomfort of being near the man she loved but who's relationship was broken. After the initial awkwardness there, Lee quickly hit her stride in the city again, helping Matt her old bartender turned bar-owner friend manage the Trasheteria. She then met two other men who would change they way her life was going: Devon Hadden and Blaine Sinclaire. Devon brought Lee into volunteering at the Sanctuary, then working with Haven, while Blaine became a very unexpected boyfriend.
But like with how the rest of her life had gone, those good things didn’t last. Blaine’s doppelganger from the other side of the rift nearly beat him to death twice, but Blaine ended up killing him after he had threatened Lee’s and Skye’s (Blaine’s niece) lives. And so Blaine left, going into hiding. When the rift closed a few months later, Tarin failed to show to pick up Kevin. Rupert also appeared to have disappeared. Though Lee hopes that Tarin had just gotten stuck on the other side of the rift when it closed, no small part feared that Rupert had finally done it, had finally pulled the trigger.
And at the same time, the Tarin and Rupert from the other world had appeared, stuck here.
Having no need for the shop herself, Lee had let this other Tarin take over running it; he had apparently had the exact same kind of shop in the same location in his world. Lee then quit working with Haven and the Sanctuary, and took on an administrative only role working with Matt so she could focus on Kevin, and help him deal with his father’s disappearance.
Which has left Lee with her head down for the last almost 6 years, focusing on Kevin and living a quiet life in New York City for the first time in her life.
Roleplay What’s your OOC/Discord alias you’ll be using?: Raine Where did you learn about this site?: An ad on another site many years ago, I think. Brought back by Jules. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No
Sample RP:Lee hung up the phone and just stared at it. Her sister Rachel had been talking about opening up her own clothing boutique for the last couple of years. And to be honest, that wasn’t a bad idea, her designs were really very good. That’s why Lee had eventually said that she would help finance her dream. Of course, Rachel hadn’t believed her at first, why would she? Her sister had no idea about most of the things that Lee had done in New York, what she had done as part of the Kabal. And as a result, Rachel had no idea how they had been compensated.
But really?!? Lee had expected Rachel to open up her shop in Toronto, it was where she had gone to school, where she had been working for years. But no, of course, Rachel wasn’t doing it in Toronto. “Really, Rach, New York?” Lee asked of no one but herself, setting her phone down on the table beside her.
”New York? Am I going to go see daddy?”
Lee’s head shot up, her eyes darting to Kevin. She hadn’t realized that her son had been close enough to hear her. “I’m not sure, honey,” Lee replied, then stood up. “Maybe. What do you want for dinner?”

Power Growth or Mini Power Growth: Mini Power Growth
Growth summary: Taking the example from Lee’s powers during the Future Plot (which is technically now history, being 2018…), Lee has developed the ability to identify people by how their energy feels.
Time frame and lead up summary:From the time it becomes active, this power will take a minimum of two weeks for Lee to become able to identify the energy of people she is around a lot (eg her son Kevin). For other people who she is not around nearly as often, it will take longer for her to be able to identify their energy.

Growth summary: Bring details of Lee’s powers listed in her profile more in line with the slight increases that happened in threads over 10 years (2008-2018), some of which had been increased as part of the attribute profile but not reflected in Lee’s posted profile.
Time frame and lead up summary: No real lead up as many of the things have already been gradually increased IC. For the items that will be growing beyond that, Lee generally uses these abilities so infrequently that it could be weeks/months before she uses them (and other than her siphoning until a person is unconscious and her crashing point from having too much energy, I don’t think I’ve ever had Lee use the max limit of her powers before).
Physical Strength 5 (normal) 18 (max, full energy) ~ “16-19 Superhuman (Able to move cars - 16: with effort; 19: easily, and throw them too)" Agility 5 (normal) 18 (max, full energy) ~ “16-19 Superhuman (land animal speed; 16 = cat, 30 mph; 19 = cheetah, 70 mph)” Mental Strength 4 Stealth 5 Senses 15 (due to her sensing people's energy near her) ~ “15 Superhuman (Detection of sensory input = normal human x 4) (Ex: Cat's smell)” Mutated Strength 15 ~ “15 Exceptional (Range: house)” Mutated Control 15 ~ “10-15 Strong (Practiced, working the kinks out of all abilities)”
Total = 64 (normal)/90 (max, full energy) (Lee's siphoning extends out to a range somewhere between 20 and 40 feet. The exact distance isn't exactly known because the siphoning is so minimal at it's outer limit. The closer to Lee, the stronger the siphoning, the strongest when touching.)
Below is what is currently in my profile. What I would like to remove/change is struck out, and what I would like to add/change it to is bold and underlined. I can/will provide thread links to justify the increases if needed.

Weaknesses and Limitations: Lee has no contro llittle control over how much energy is released during the blast.
At first, it will take concentration to achieve, but will eventually get to the point where it is simple decision to be made. This is basically just a decision that she makes, kind of like flipping an internal switch. It is easier and faster to do when she closes her eyes and focuses for a moment, though.
Pros: Now that Lee is able to shut off her siphoning, there is no reason for Lee to be up for days at a time nor for her to take energy from people when they really need it.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Despite being able to stop siphoning, Lee is still not able to produce her own energy, and is still dependent on siphoning in order to function. Lee is also unable to use her people radar when her siphoning is off.

Power Growth or Mini Power Growth: Power Growth. Still eligible for a mini-power growth.
Growth summary: Lee’s body becomes more capable of dealing with the physical stresses that her enhanced speed and strength can produce.
At the moment, while Lee is able to produce great strength and speed depending on the amount of energy she has, her body is no more durable or resilient than a human’s. This means that she can be quite susceptible to injury such as broken bones when using too much strength or speed.
This power growth would allow Lee’s body to become more durable/resilient according to her energy level in the same way that her speed and strength increase with excess energy
Time frame and lead up summary: Lee has recently had a few injuries while sparring that she would not have otherwise had if she had simply been moving with a 'normal' speed or strength, including most recently multiple hairline fractures. If this power growth is approved, I would like that incident to have set in motion the power growth. However, Lee will not discover that she has had the power growth for a while as it has proven her previously existing thoughts that she needs to be careful with how much speed or strength she uses.
I would like Lee to become aware of the power growth through a 'real life' issue she has to deal with (e.g. not while sparring or training), preferably as part of an upcoming site-wide plot if one were to happen soon. However, not yet knowing what that is, I cannot plan details. And if not a site-wide plot, I'm sure that some trouble will be able to find Lee.
Growth description: Enhanced Durability
