The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Deirdra listened to the small girl tell her story. The woman couldn’t imagine how scary it would to have a whole bunch of stuff blow up because of her. It had been hard enough when her scorpion mutation showed up and even scarier when she realized she could kill people with the toxins in her tail. When she had gotten used to it, she realized that she was always meant for greater things and her mutation was it. The reason no one had wanted her had to have been because they could sense how superior she was, so they tried to keep her down, tried to hurt her.
It was the only thing that felt right, her scorpion form. Her human legs were better for attracting males, but they didn’t feel natural. They didn’t feel like a part of her. She had always felt that part of her wasn’t right. She wasn’t made to look like a human or act like a normal human. The blond wondered if Kaitlyn felt that way or if it was just her. Maybe she wasn’t like anyone and was meant to always be alone. Part of her hoped not, but a different part of her thought it would be so much easier to be alone.
“Well, I’m glad they’re helping you control that. I’m sure it must be frightening to accidently blow things up without exactly wanting to. I used to not be able to control my scorpion form, so that was a bit of problem.” The blond smiled. “Luckily, I lived with some very nice mutants who taught me how to control my mutation. They were the closest thing I’ve ever had to a real family. My mother and father split up when I was younger when my mom started doing drugs. She was in and out of jail a lot, so they got divorced. Dad remarried this woman that really hated me. No one ever paid attention to me unless I was doing something bad or my step-mom was yelling at me.” The woman took a drink of coffee. “I ran away from home when my mutation manifested at 13.”

The girl introduced herself as Kaitlyn Faust. The woman thought the last name sounded familiar. She closed her eyes momentarily as she searched her memory. Lori. Lori Faust. She was the leader of the Order. Deirdra’s blue eyes fluttered opened and she looked at Kaitlyn as she took a drink of coffee. “Faust, hm? Are you some relation to Lori of is it just a coincidence?” She smiled and returned the mug to the tabletop.
Kaitlyn told the scorpion woman that she was just visiting and the blond smiled. “That’s just fine with me.” The next thing that came from the child was a question. How had she come to join the team? It was a fair question and Deirdra nodded to herself as she recalled Roland being cornered.
“Well, I don’t know if you’ve met Roland, but he was surrounded by cops after robbing a jewelry store. I heard them call him a mutant and I immediately jumped in. I didn’t even really think about. I just felt like it was my job.” The blond bit her lip, wondering if she should tell the child about what happened next. Of course, that would be treating her like a child, which she had hated. “I attacked the officers and knocked them out. Somehow Roland got his hands on one of the cop’s guns. He shot them all. I had no idea he would do it.”
The woman sat silently for a moment as she remembered the events of that day. She shook her head in an effort to get her attention back to telling the story. “He offered me some of the stuff he had stolen, and I told him I hadn’t done it for things. I had just done it to help. More cops were coming, so he stole one of their cars as I transformed into my human form and put on a pair of pants that Roland had stolen off an officer. I had worked as a receptionist at a dental office and after being seen, I’d never be able to go back. So…Roland offered me a place to live, the Sanctuary, and then went on to interview me for the Order. And now here I am, drinking coffee and talking to an incredible mutant who makes quite a bang.” Deirdra smirked.

As Deirdra sat there, she heard a small voice reach her ears. A girl came and sat right next to the blond. Turning her head to the side, the blond raised an eyebrow and smiled. The small girl had called her by name, and the woman had to think for a moment as to where she had seen her before. It dawned on her and a smirk came onto her face. “You’re the girl that can make explosions, aren’t you? We went on that mission together.”
The blond admired how the girl acted like a grown-up for a moment before taking a drink of coffee. “So, I don’t believe I know your name. May I ask you what it is? I’m sure it must be very pretty.” Deirdra was very tolerant with children for the most part, but it helped that this girl was a mutant. It would make it easier to get less annoyed. Babies bothered her and so did toddlers, but this child was old enough to talk and not cry to communicate everything.
Deirdra had a feeling this girl wasn’t the type to whine, since she seemed to live at the Sanctuary and not have any parents. It had probably toughened her up. The woman knew that what she had been through had made her grow up much faster. It had prevented her from a whining teenage stage. The mutants she had lived with when she was a teen would have just told her to shut up if she had made a fuss. They had been tough and encouraged the blond to be tough as well.
Bringing her mug to her lips, she took a large drink. Placing the cup back down on the table, the woman turned her whole body slightly in her chair so she could look at the mutant girl better. “So, is there something I can help you with or do you just feel like visiting?” Deirdra didn’t talk to her like she was a child, but used a calm, kind tone with her. She remembered how much she had hated people talking to her like she was stupid or something. Being younger didn’t mean people had to talk to you like were an infant.

Deirdra’s current schedule for the day had been: shower, get dressed in cute exercise clothes, put hair up in ponytail, and then she went for a jog. After she got back from her 2 hour jog, the blond noticed how hungry she was. With a sigh, she dug around for something in the kitchen, deciding on an apple and toast with peanut butter on it, she retired to the dining room.
The room was empty and Deirdra sat down at a random chair in the middle of the table. She glanced down either side of the table and then slouched in her chair. Picking up her apple, she put it to her mouth and took a big bite. When she set it back down, she felt she had forgotten something. A moment of pondering what she was missing and the woman instantly stood up. Talking to no one in particular, the woman announced, “I forgot my coffee.” Turning around, she headed back into the kitchen.
After a few minutes, the scorpion woman walked back into the dining room, sipping happily at a large cup of black coffee. Deirdra was already not a very kind person, but lack of coffee made her want to tear people’s heads off. She needed the caffeine if she was to function. She returned to her seat and plopped back down. Her body was so light, however, that not much noise was made. She munched slowly at what was left of her meal and when she was finished, she sat and stared into her mug.
Reaching into the pocket of her jogging shorts, the blond pulled out her cell phone. She glanced at the screen to check the time. It read 7:21. “It’s not even 8 yet?!” A loud sigh escaped her. “But…I’m already so bored.” Her lower lip jutted out, as if pouting. She slipped the phone back in her pocket and took a big drink of coffee. This was going to be a long day.

They had done it. They had managed to get away from the police and an X-Man. Once on the top of the building, Deirdra took a moment to catch her breath. A laugh made its way out between gasps. She couldn’t wait to go back to Sanctuary. The woman was exhausted and knew that her scorpion would need a rest soon. She’d have to revert back soon, otherwise she may have to lay down somewhere, even if they weren’t out of the clear yet. After a moment, the blond’s breathing was back to normal and her laugh was the only noise she made.
“Well, that was exciting. I can’t say if that’s necessarily a good thing, but it was exciting nonetheless. I've never been so close to getting caught before. I need to learn to kill people without so many emotions bubbling up. That could've gotten me in a lot of trouble.” Deirdra peeked over the side of the building and smiled. “We better keep going though.” She turned to look at Meld, a bit of concern plastered on her face. “Are you all right? Do you need to rest?” The blond eyed her companion worryingly with a raised eyebrow. “Depending on the weight of that metal, I may be able to let you sit on my back on the way home. I could try carrying you, if you need the help. I’m not sure though.”

The scorpion woman stood very still, trying to make eye contact with the woman who held the gun. She was hoping she would be able to beg with her eyes. Deirdra was many things, but ready for death was not one of them. She intended to live much longer, but if this kept up her intention may not matter either way. Her hands were still up in there air, giving off the air of her surrendering.
Deirdra was right about Meld. She wasn’t going to leave her there alone. Part of her was very happy, but at the same time she was a bit frustrated. This wasn’t getting them anywhere and the blond wasn’t going to be the one to leave someone behind. If Meld had left her, that would’ve been better in the woman’s opinion. She wouldn’t have to live down the embarrassment of leaving her own behind. She suspected the cyborg thought the same way, or maybe she just genuinely cared what happened to her. This confused the scorpion, but kind of understood it to an extent.
While she was standing there, debating what to do, water shot out from the nearby fire hydrant and blasted Meld. During the blast, the other mutant woman made her move. She grabbed the hostage and they both began to disappear. Deirdra blinked. She was surprised that the woman was able to do that. She had assumed that her only ability revolved around her control of air, which was stupid of her. Assuming was never a good thing to do. The blond had never been the type to just assume something because she was too suspicious and untrusting.
Deirdra glanced from the cop, to the X-Man, to Meld. With a smile, she scuttled down the wall. Grabbing a hold of her fellow Order member, she started her climb back up the wall. “We’re getting out of here. Are you all right?” She didn’t stop to talk. She didn’t even look at Meld. She was just trying to get them out of the situation. There was a good chance they could make it this time, especially with all the current distractions.

Deirdra thought she was out in the clear. The mutant cop had pretty much given up for the most part. It was obvious Meld would kill the man if she felt she had to. The blond narrowed her eyes at the man and then rolled them. “We aren’t hiding behind a human. We’re willing to free him once we know we can leave this mess.” She was so frustrated. All she had done was knock a few idiots around. No permanent harm done and they’d be back to normal within minutes. Now, a cop was dead and there was an X-Man here. It was all going down the toilet.
When Deirdra looked back towards the X-Man, she noticed a gun pointed at her. The scorpion woman froze and gritted her teeth together. Now she was a long distance hostage. A shot flew passed her and hit a fire hydrant. The blond’s eyes widened when she realized that the woman would shoot her if given a reason. Deirdra put her hands up in surrender and stayed perfectly still. She was glad that it was only a warning shot because her upper body was perfectly vulnerable to gunshot wounds. Her lower half wasn’t as much, considering her carapace.
The blond glanced to Meld, with a silent plea on her face, but despite it, she felt her mouth open. “Meld, you should probably go. If you try to help me, you’ll get caught by the cops. I don’t want that to happen. Please go.” She knew that the woman probably wouldn’t listen to her at all. Meld wouldn’t leave a mutant behind if they needed help.

Deirdra didn’t even have time to get in a fight with anyone. She sighed angrily and began to retreat. Pretending to lose was hard enough, but to not even get to fight in the first place was even harder. The blond glanced back over her shoulder at the enemies. She took in all the people that had came and put powers to the faces. It would help if she ever ran into them again. She looked towards the man who had gotten shot, that the woman had found attractive. A wink was given, whether it was seen or not, was a different story.

Deirdra stood on the ground, her hands placed on her hips in an irritated fashion. She shook her head so her blond hair fell behind her ears. As she stood, planning what to do next, Meld had made a move. One of the men that the scorpion woman had knocked out was now in Meld’s possession. The blond smirked and looked to both other mutants. Their options would be limited now. They both seemed to care very much for all of the surrounding people’s lives, which meant they’d have to be careful if they didn’t want the cyborg hurting the stupid human.
Just when Deirdra thought the mutant officer couldn’t get any more foolish, he did. He offered to trade himself for Meld’s hostage. The scorpion rolled her eyes and watched as the third female mutant’s expression became a little distressed. Her exclamation sounded similar to the expression on her face. Deirdra’s blue eyes narrowed as the cop threw his gun away. She wondered if he was plotting anything, or just playing it by ear. Either thing could turn into something bad for her and Meld. The woman with white hair was able to control air, so she could attack them easily.
Her scorpion legs helped move her body part way up the wall once more. “Let us go or we’ll kill that man.” She gestured with a nod towards the man in Meld’s grip. She turned to look at the mutant cop again, wondering if the cyborg would trade for him.

Deirdra began to shift back into her scorpion form. It was very easy to climb walls with her scorpion legs, except for the fact that her body was so much heavier. The only thing that made it so much easier was the fact that the ends of her legs were easier to wedge into cracks and get grips on things. Her legs were stronger than human legs. There was more power and strength in the lack of muscles than there was in her puny, human legs. As the transition from human to scorpion happened, Deirdra noticed a powerful wind picking up.
The blond’s eyes narrowed as she watched the unknown woman. After a moment, her scorpion legs came into being, along with her tail. She tilted her head slightly to one side and turned to the wall. The scorpion woman walked towards it and stared straight up. She glanced over her shoulder at Meld. Her head nodded towards it and she raised one eyebrow at her companion. It was as if asking her if she was coming with her.
Carefully, the blond took a few steps up the side of the wall. Her head tilted back and she smiled at the police man. With a flick of her wrist, a quick wave was given to the pair that she was trying to get away from. She was about half way up the wall, when the wind began to affect her grip on the wall. A few of her stronger back legs began to slip a little. She glared down at the white haired woman who was dressed so nicely. “You. Get rid of the wind. It’s getting hand to keep a hold on these dang bricks.” She turned around and scuttled back down the wall.
“I knew you were a mutant, but I was definitely not expecting a gale storm to come from you.” She watched the woman stand protectively over the dead officer. Deirdra’s eyes fell to the ground. “I never wanted this to happen. I was only trying to help a girl with wings. If I could make him get back onto his feet and breathe again, I would. Please just get rid of the wind. I need to leave.”

Meld knew the woman who appeared. They didn’t want to fight each other. The cyborg mutant informed the other woman that she didn’t want to fight another mutant at all if possible. Deirdra watched from her spot near the building. The mutant cop was keeping an eye on her and she could feel his gaze keeping track of her movements. The blond took a few steps towards the other Order member.
“Meld,” her voice was lower so only she could hear. “I think we need to go. I believe I can use my mutation again. I can scale buildings in that form. How are you at climbing walls?” She glanced at the third woman who had joined them. I wonder what her mutation is. If it’s long distance, we don’t stand a chance at getting out of here.
Deirdra’s regular attitude had returned, along with a smirk. She looked at the police officer and winked at him. He wanted her to leave, but that would be bad of her. The cyborg wouldn’t leave her, therefore she couldn’t leave the cyborg. If the scorpion-woman believed for a minute that the other woman would leave her there to save herself, she would do the same thing. Unfortunately, Meld seemed like the loyal type. She didn’t want to look bad, and so she would stay until they were both out of the situation.
She sighed and put her hands up. “All right, I know this is kind of my fault. Well, actually, it’s those 4 idiots fault, but you seem to think it’s me, so I’ll say it was. As long as I don’t have to keep arguing, I’m not really in the mood.” Deirdra smiled. “Sounds good? Anyway, I do believe this is getting much more out of hand. All I wanted was to save a poor little mutant girl. And Meld, being the caring mutant she is, was only trying to help me. That cop is dead, but he was stupid. He cornered her. It’s like wild animals, you just don’t corner them.” Another slightly dramatic sigh. “All of this is a misunderstanding, kind of. Besides, I have things to do and this is wasting my drinking time. Just let us both walk away. Give us a head start. Something.”

Deirdra stared, stunned and helplessly, as Meld killed the police officer. He was stupid, but the blond still felt remorse for some reason. As she sat on the ground with her human legs, the woman’s hands shook. It was like watching Roland killing all those police, only this was gorier. His shooting the people in the head was a tad distressing at the time, but it was nothing. It hadn’t been her fault and it had been less personal. This, this was blood spattering and a fellow mutant watching his comrade die by the hands (well, tail), of Meld, also a mutant.
“My scorpion body, it—It’s gone. I think I’m a tad stressed. You owe me a drink when we get out of this.” A small smirk appeared on her face. The blond stood up shakily and watched as water washed over Meld. Deirdra would’ve been concerned, but she doubted the cyborg would be hurt. The young woman waited to see what would happen next and then noticed another woman approaching the scene. She sighed, frustrated. Why do more people have to keep coming? This is getting to be more intense than I had ever intended.
Deirdra had never been much into emotions; in fact, most people who got to know her well, believed her to be a sociopath. It was never true. The blond had been through a lot and learned how to hide her feelings. It was so much easier to pretend she felt nothing, than to always feel hurt. At this point, Deirdra’s shaking gave off the appearance that she was distraught and scared. She would never admit it, but there was a bit of both emotions. Although, irritation was starting to surface as well.
She looked at the mutant officer as he told her to run. Deirdra opened her mouth slightly, but quickly closed it again. She stood there for a moment, thinking about what to do. The blond shook her head ‘no’. “Part of me wants to, but I don’t know if I could live with myself knowing I left her here alone.” She looked to where Meld had been standing. “I shouldn’t feel remorse for some idiot cop that was trying to arrest a fellow mutant, but part of me feels so bad. I want to be able to help mutants. We’re better than humans, so why should I feel bad? If the need came, I should be able to kill them, shouldn’t I? They’ve never cared about us.” An image of her family appeared in her mind. Her expression was confused, like she was hoping someone else would know.

The mutant cop was obviously worried, as he should be, but he wasn’t backing down. Deirdra wasn’t sure how to deal with him. Part of her was wishing he’d just leave so she could go home too. If the cops hadn’t stopped her, she would’ve left the four idiots lying on the ground. They may be in pain, but still alive and she would’ve gotten to go back to the Sanctuary. Picking on the four idiots for picking on a small girl wouldn’t have turned into something this serious if they had just let her leave. But, of course they had to threaten her. Of course Meld had to show up. Of course more officers had to show up.
The scorpion woman stared at the mutant officer for a moment as he spoke, but her attention quickly changed over to the one that had approached Meld. Deirdra’s eyes opened wide and she backed away from the two. She knew Meld wouldn’t tolerate something like that and the blond didn’t want to be covered in the foolish man’s blood. The confused woman turned and looked at the wall of the building behind her. She wasn’t going to run, but she wasn’t going to watch the other female mutant butcher someone.
One of Deirdra’s hands came up to her head and she brushed her hair back, stressed. The woman felt her body start to shift to human form. When her human legs returned, her shirt was long enough to reach to a little below her thighs. She sunk to the ground. The blond looked down at her legs, confused. She had never turned back into her human body without meaning to. She supposed it had to do with all the emotion coming from the situation. Her bright, blue eyes looked over her shoulder and her expression was very stunned. “Meld…Something's wrong.”
