The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mirror asked Henri if she thought her mother would come around. The brunette wasn't sure about anything having to do with her mom anymore. She had believed that they were close and that her mom would always love her. It didn't seem like that any longer. Her mother talked harshly to her, if at all. Henri's automatic response was to talk-back. It was like a defense mechanism to the young teenager.
Henrietta's mother had never really talked about her father. When she was younger, she had tried to bring it up, but her mom broke down into tears and became angry. After the one time, Henri decided it wasn't worth making her mother unhappy. She had given up on the topic.
"Special...I like that word. It's so much better that mutant. Well, it sounds nicer at least." She laughed. "So, can I ask you something? Something about why you get that funny look when you talk about Twyla?" Henri smirked slightly. She was curious what it was all about. Besides, Rapunzel liked the idea of matchmaking two friends together.
Henri stopped, turned, and looked at the boy. She hadn't thought that at all. "I never said anything about you being one. I figured you just wanted some space. Sorry if I offended you or anything." The brunette just looked at Locke for a minute. She already had a difficult time understanding boys, so this wasn't helping. First, he seemed like he didn't want to talk to her at all, and now he seemed upset or something. Henri had never really talked to boys at her school in Illinois. She usually kept quiet as if trying to hide. Boys never asked the Henrietta on a date, or to a dance, or anything like that.
Looking at the boy still, she blinked. "Well...what would you like me to do?" She didn't say it in a mean way, but in a curious, confused way. She really wanted to know. Was she suppose to try to talk to him or leave him alone? Locke Tori didn't act as if he wanted to make conversation. He didn't even look at the brunette. Glancing across the street from their current location, she smiled slightly. "Central Park's this way."
When her blonde friend had yelled at Gawain a moment ago, Henrietta couldn't help but smile. He had tilted her chin up to make her look him in the eye before the shouting occured. It was sort of intense just for the brunette to watch, so she couldn't imagine it being directed at her. She wasn't sure what their relationship was, but it seemed like there was something besides a normal friendship. Henri would ask her at some point, but now was not the time.
After sitting on a bench, she bit her lip. Moving at all stung. "My ribs. I think they're just bruised, but it still hurts a little." The brunette gave Twyla a reassuring smile. "So what kind of transportation are you thinking?" If it was for a lot of the students, it would most likely have to be a bus or something else that could move huge amounts of people from point a to point b. Glancing around, she saw a semi. "Hmm...Twyla, would stuffing kids into the back of a large truck work?" She pointed to the large vehicle and shrugged. She wasn't sure how much help she was being, but she was trying to come up with something.
Emerald had turned into a wolf. At first, Henrietta felt like screaming. It surprised her, but after a minute her eyes got big. “Aww…You’re SO cute!” The wolf girl’s tail wagged and she came closer to Henri. Restraining herself from touching the girl, she turned and looked as Twyla walked out of her room and exclaimed her surprise at the ‘puppy’ as well. Without contemplating it, she patted Em on the head. She wore a very random and colorful outfit. “That’s a really adorable outfit, Twyla!” Henri grinned at her blonde friend. Her friend looked a little embarrassed.
Henrietta doubted that Emerald would be mad and also wanted to touch the big, fuzzy wolf head. She managed to keep her hands to herself and smiled. “That’s a very cool power, Emerald. Does everything look different when in that form?” Henri was always very curious about powers. She tried not to overdo it with questions. Mutants were more than abilities and Henrietta tried to ask more ‘normal’ things.
“Hmmm….I’ll be right back.” The brunette ran into her room. She thought of something random that she wanted to put on and show the other girls. Leaving the two girls to have a moment alone, she closed her bedroom door. Heading straight to the place she knew the items were located. Opening the drawer, she began to rummage around.
>> "That's not fair, ya know, I don't think anything's wrong with you, mutant or not. So... another dancer, huh? We could have our own team here, looks like everyone loves dancin'."
Henri smiled at the girl. “Thank you. That means a lot.” It really did to her. She had been so lonely for so long and she had always been scared of what people thought. It was nice to hear someone tell her something nice. Henrietta hadn’t told many people about her friends back home. Just Twyla and Maya. Twyla had said that her friends were probably jealous of her. It was most likely true, but Henri never would have thought it before the girl mentioned it.
>> "I never went to school, obviously. Hard to explain to the teachers why only one twin shows up for classes every day... so I didn't have to deal with stuff like that. But since she... went missing, I guess I've been lonely too. Good thing the X gene brings people closer together, huh?"
The brunette nodded. She hadn’t thought of that. She bet people would be suspicious if only one half of a set showed up. When Maya said she was lonely too, Henrietta gave her an understanding smile. There wasn’t anything to say that could make your mother disappearing seem better and the girl knew that. The X gene certainly did bring people together. The 16-year-old had never had as many real friends as she did since she learned she was a mutant and had been dropped off in front of the huge school
"In a way, I think being a mutant is a blessing. At least it was for me kind of."
>> "It comes in handy once in a while. 't was not much help with the monster, but there's a bunch of useful stuff about being sneaky. Especially 'cuz I've been broke for three years now..."
Did she just confess to stealing? Henrietta was slightly surprised, but understood the need to take things if there’s no other way. The brunette always tried to look for the best in people and she was sure that Mirror was not a criminal. Henri smiled at her to let her know she wasn’t disgusted or freaked out by this discovery.
>> "So, what were you before you became Rapunzel?"
“What was I? Hmm…Well, I was scared of what everyone thought of me. My friends were really mean sometimes, so I’m not sure if they were actually my friends or not.” Henri looked down slightly and shrugged. “I love to run. I was in Track and Field and wanted to join the school dance team. My friends told me not to bother though because there was no way I would make it.” Part of her thought at the time that they were trying to spare her the embarrassment of not making it, but she wasn’t so sure anymore.
“I wasn’t popular with much of anyone. I tried to keep quiet so people would like me. I was never asked out or anything. I guess I was lonely before I became Rapunzel…” Thank God for her mutation, in a weird way. She wasn’t lonely anymore. “What about you, Maya?”
>> "When the choice was between a living a life hiding from others or to find a place where you could be yourself among others... well, I chose the latter."
Henrietta felt bad. The boy seemed so sad and lonely. She wasn’t quite sure what to say to Chris. “Chris,” Henri turned to the boy, “I’m sorry. I know it’s hard sometimes.” It was most likely very difficult for him, at least she could blend in with other people. She assumed that that probably bothered him. Her complaining but being able to still fit in to a point. His mutation was more obvious than hers and Henri couldn’t imagine how hard it must be for him. The stares they were getting were a pretty good indicator though.
Chris said that the school seemed too good to be true. It probably did, but she lived there. She knew for sure it was true. “It’s very nice, Chris. I think you would like it. As far as ponds go, there might be one in the garden. I’m not sure though. I do know that there is a pool.” Maybe a pool wouldn’t be the same because of the chemicals, but the brunette wasn’t sure. It was worth a shot.
“People are very nice there and it’s a warm place to stay. There’s a huge kitchen and everything. You should at least look around there sometime.” She gave the boy a friendly smile.
Henrietta smiled at Noel and Juka again. There was quite a bit of tension, but they were both pretty nice to her. In all honesty, she liked both of them so far. She could tell they both meant well towards her and were both decently friendly, to an extent. They may not like each other much so far, but that could always change. Henri wouldn’t bet her life on it, but it was a nice thought. That would make hanging out with the two people even more enjoyable.
Noel didn’t seem to have much faith about anything being affordable. That was okay. It still can’t hurt to look around. Besides, it seemed that she was in search of something in particular as well. Henrietta smiled at the girl Noel. “Well, I’m sure we’ll find something.” The brunette was sure that whatever the young woman wore, she would most likely look beautiful.
Juka asked, "How could a sweet heart like you possibly ruin my shopping day?" Henrietta blushed slightly. “Um, well. I just wanted to double check.” The man said he knew somewhere where things were affordable. Henri grinned excitedly. “Really? It would be awesome if you could show us the way, Juka.”
The 16-year-old girl looked at both both the man and the woman. “Why don’t we try to make this fun? You know, like…Well, trying to get along.” She hoped the two wouldn’t be mad at her. Henrietta just hoped that instead of feeling tense the whole time, she could feel more relaxed.
Feeling like a coward, Henrietta liked the idea of retreating. She would probably do whatever the other two did anyway. Glancing down at her torso while she walked, she winced. It hurt with even a little movement. The pain almost made her yelp. She assumed that she had bruised her ribs. Twyla had pointed at all the fire trucks. Part of Henri didn’t understand what was happening anymore. It may have been because of all the different things going on at once. All of the stuff made her head feel like spinning.
“I’ll go if you two do. I think that maybe we should try to get our injuries fixed. We probably won’t do anyone much good like this.” She hated to say it, but it was true. She knew for sure that personally, this was as far as she could push herself in her current condition. “What about you two? What do you want to do?”
She hoped that their answer would be to her liking, but if it wasn't, she would stay with them and do what she could.
At first, the boy said his name was Tori. After a few moments of silence, he then said his name was Locke Tori. She assumed that at first he didn’t trust the girl, but then decided to. Maybe he thought she didn’t pose a threat or maybe it was because of her honesty. Henrietta knew that trusting the boy may have been stupid on her part, but he seemed genuinely concerned with something. She also could tell he was not from around here. The caring part of her couldn’t bear to watch some kid wandering around alone and lost.
He stood up and grabbed his bag. She then got to her feet. “To central park, then?” Pulling her coat tighter around her, she began to walk towards the park. She assumed the boy would follow, and if he didn’t that was his choice. Henri shivered as a small wind blew. The only negative thing about winter: the cold. She thought the snow was beautiful and she didn’t mind a little chilliness. The kind of cold she hated was the kind that made you start to think your fingers were going to shrivel and fall off.
She continued to walk. At one point, she thought about checking to see if he was there, but if he wanted to talk to her, he’d have to make an effort. Locke had been acting odd ever since she met him and he didn’t really seem interested in what Henri had to say. She had no idea what was going on in his mind, so she decided to give him some space. The brunette didn’t give him the cold shoulder and it was obvious, just some space.
>> "Mam says Nature doesn't make anythin' useless, so all mutations are bound to be useful, one way or another. So if ya can't figure out the way ta become a superhero, ya can always end up bein' a model and gettin' filthy rich. It's a win-win."
Henrietta smiled at Maya. “Your mam seems very smart. My mother’s not stupid, but she’s on the ignorant side.” Which was true. Her mother was decently bright, but she wasn’t very accepting of mutants. She didn’t have to say it, but Henri knew she thought her daughter was a freak.
“A model? I’m not so sure about that one, but I’m glad you have faith in me.” The brunette laughed. “And I think that your power could be very useful. Especially the mirror travel.” It was kind of like teleporting. Henri had a feeling that Maya/Gawain would become a great member of the spandex team, minus the spandex. Henrietta had worn spandex for dancing and practicing for Track and Field, but otherwise she didn’t wear them.
Now that Henri knew the other girl, she felt more comfortable. Twyla had gone into her room to show how her socks looked like pants on her. Rapunzel smiled at the girl, Emerald. She still looked a bit nervous, but that was easy to understand. Twyla and Henrietta have been acting very silly. Maybe this girl wasn’t used to acting in such a way. Again, that was something the brunette could understand. She couldn’t have ever acted like this with her ‘friends’ back home.
“So, Emerald. That’s a pretty name.” Henrietta loved learning people’s names. There were so many different ones, but not as many as there are people. She always thought it’d be more interesting if only one person in the world had a name. Nobody else. Henrietta knew for a fact someone else had the same name as her. Well, at least she did at some point. She was named for her great-grandmother.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your ability?” Rapunzel smiled and made her hair move. A piece of it waved to the girl. “That’s mine. It’s also tougher than the average hair. I’m not quite sure how much help it would be to anyone, but it sure is unique.” It definitely was unique. She’d never seen anything quite like it. People had said it reminded them of Medusa, but it wasn’t made of snakes, so yes, it was quite different.
Henri laughed when the girl did. It really was kind of weird. She wasn’t sure if it was actually muscle, but she wasn’t sure what else to call it either. Maya had a red mark on her hand from Rapunzel’s hair. “Oh, I’m sorry. Does it hurt?” A pang of guilt hit the brunette all of a sudden.
>> “So, ya're aimin' to be a superhero and join the school spandex team? Cuz ya're showin' great potential..."
School spandex team? This made Henrietta laugh again. When Maya said that Henri showed great potential, she felt herself blush for about the hundredth time in the past couple hours. She really wasn’t sure what she’d be able to do for the X-Men, if anything. Wild, flailing hair didn’t seem like it would help anyone much. “I don’t know. Compared to everyone else, my power seems a little lame. I’d love to be of some help though, if possible.” The brunette paused. “What about you?”
>> "Not bad, Princess. Ya've been practicin' this?"
Henri smiled. “No, actually. I’ve never attempted arm wrestling with hair before. Never occurred to me, but it’s a good plan. I may actually be able to win against some people for once.” The brunette wasn’t what you would call a wimp, but she didn’t have much for upper body strength. Her legs were more toned from jumping hurtles in Track and Field though. Dancing was good cardio, but had not given her much muscle mass.
Maya had been pushing back and Henri’s hair was starting to get pinned down toward the table. Concentrating with all her might, Henri closed her eyes. It wasn’t helping much. Her hair wasn’t muscular, just very strong in the ‘trying-to-cut-it’ sense. Sighing, she let her hair get pinned down. Henrietta could tell that this was a losing battle.
