The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Henrietta listened as Emerald as she told them how she became an X-Man and then her opinion in the beauty vs.brains debate. The brunette smiled as she listened to her talk. Then Twyla was next. Henri laughed when she mentioned the boy thing. "I can totally agree with that. He could only be dumb if we went on one date otherwise I may flip out at some point. Beauty can only save a relationship for so long." She knew what the blonde had meant when she said it was bad. People should be looked at beyond that, but if it was only the one date....
The piece of paper with questions was passed to Henri. Taking a chip out of the bag, she began to nibble on it. Looking down the list, she tried to find a good one that her and Twyla hadn't done earlier. "Hmm...Let's see what I can find..." Continuing her search, she scanned the sheet. When she came to a stupid one, she would say, "uh-uh" and then look to the next. Grabbing another chip absent-mindedly, she put it into her mouth and began to chew. She swallowed it and then read what she had found. "Here we go. Do you want to have lots of kids, a couple kids, or no kids when you get older?"
Setting the sheet down again, she smiled at both girls and waited for an answer.
Henrietta turned and looked at Chris. He looked like he was crying and laughing at the same time. She raised an eyebrow in question and then glanced back out of the plant. They had left. "Are you going to be okay? You seem a little...well, I don't know." She decided to wait a while before standing up. The brunette didn't want to risk the chance that they'd see her and come back, especially now that she knew they had a weapon on them.
"What... did your... hair do?" The boy mutant asked her this as he tried stop whatever he had been doing. She really wasn't sure what the problem was. He was having such an odd reaction. All Henri had felt was terrified. She never had the urge to laugh and now that the incident appeared to be over, she was angry. She was angry that they were targeted for being what they were. Returning her attention to the question, she sighed. "I don't know. I panicked and so did my hair, I guess. All it did was grab him."
Standing up, she stepped out of the shrub and then began to brush herself off. Turning around to the bush once more, she held out her hand to help Chris up. She stood and waited for him to accept the help.
Holding onto Van's hand, her faced turned a little red. It stopped when she felt Van let go of her hand. He had stopped to do some sort of little dance. Henrietta watched and then smiled at him. The girl already felt more comfortable around the stretchy boy. Now that he knew she was a mutant too, she wouldn't have to keep pretending to be normal. Taking her hand into his, the two walked off again.
“So how long have you been an undesirable?” Henri glanced at Van. That's an interesting way to put it, but it's true. We are undesirable, aren't we? How is that fair...? Looking straight ahead again, she sighed quietly. "Well, I found out around September. I was at the salon in town. My mother wanted me to donate my hair to Locks of Love." The 16-year old stopped a minute as the came to a large group of people. Once they were in a less populated area, she continued.
"I hadn't cut my hair in such a long time and I thought it was one of my only good features. I panicked when the hairdresser came at me with scissors. She tried to cut it, but my hair broke them and then began to go wild." Making sure no one was around, Henrietta's hair lifted into the air and acted as if it were in water. "Needless to say, it started quite an uproar back home in Springfield. My mom was scared and didn't know what to do with me, so now I'm here." Stopping, she looked at the boy with her big, blue eyes and smiled slightly. " It's definitely not as cool as your ability though. I bet it comes in handy, huh?" The smile was to let Van know she was fine with what had happened in Illinois, when it reality she hated that she was treated in such a way.
The odd mutant pair continued to run from the small group of thugs. Without warning, Chris yelled, "Shrubbery!" He leaped into a bush. Glancing behind her, she noticed they were catching up. She debated the thought to keep running or to stay and hide. It was obvious the fish-boy couldn't run fast at all and she wasn't going to leave him. That only left one option. Closing her eyes in case the branches would hurt, she hopped in after Chris.
Opening her light blue eyes, she peeked out of the shurb. Blinking a few times, she turned and looked at Chris. She wasn't sure if she was suppose to talk or not. Henrietta didn't want him getting angry with her, but she wondered if he was okay. I'll just have to whisper.
Using the quietest voice she could muster that was still audible, she asked him her question. "Chris, are you oka--" Her mouth slammed shut when she saw something standing near their hiding place. Two men had stopped. It was 2/3s of the earlier group. She could see that the man who had held onto her had completey deserted. Well, that's one less problem...
Henrietta took another sip of the sugar-coffee as Van talked. He said he was a senior. I thought he was in my age range... The brunette nodded. He'd be 18 in August. "I'll be 17 in May." Grabbing another sugar packet, she tore it open and dumped the contents into her cup. Henri's sugar intake wasn't always so heavy, but the bitter coffee demanded it. Without stirring it or using the straw, she picked up the cup and took a small drink. She almost spit it back out. It was mostly sugar now and was way too strong for her tastes. She managed to swallow the sweet mixture, but she puckered her face a bit in the process. Laughing, she looked at Van and then into the cup. "Sorry about that. I didn't think it would be that bad."
It seemed the boy had gotten tired of having his feet on the table. He began to shift, but a candle began to fall in the process. Henri didn't have very fast reflexes or anything that could've stopped it, otherwise she may have tried. Watching its quick decent, she saw something out of the corner of her eye. It was only a few seconds, but she was sure she had seen something stretch. It looked like an arm and it came from Van's direction. It is an arm. She looked at him and then his arm. The arm's attatched to Van...Oh my gosh! It's Van's arm! He realized what he had done and his arm shot back to him. Henri wasn't sure what to say or do, so she just blinked. "Good catch."
After a moment she realized he had asked her a question about the disgusting concoction. "It's great. It might be better with more coffee in it or something..." Still in shock, she looked at the table next to them. Maybe she was hallucinating. A few people had the same looks on their faces. Or maybe they all saw it too...Standing up, she grabbed Van's hand. "Come on. I'm not sure if they're the type to accept us or not." Pulling him into a standing position, she lead him out of the coffee shop.
I think that having the DNA get altered would be interesting. Are we think it's temporary or will the DNA just stay that way? I guess I'm just curious as to if it would be long-term or short-term. I'm not sure if the mutation would fade after a while if it's in there and altering things. I don't know tons about this kind of stuff. I've had biology, but I'm only a junior in high school and the only teach us so much.
I think this thread would be fun, not to mention we could have a lot of people be on it. I think the more people that would join, the more interesting it would be. Just thought I'd post on here so everyone knows I'm still interested.
Van laughed after seeing his reflection, which just made Henri giggle. It seemed laughter was contagious. Of course, she'd rather catch the giggles than some sort of sickness. The brunette glanced into her own cup and stared at the drink after he asked her what it was. "It's just plain black coffee, but...", reaching into her pocket she pulled out about 5 or 6 sugar packets. "I found their stash." Henrietta grinned and ripped a packet open. After dumping a few of the packets' contents into her coffee, she stirred it with a small straw. She looked up at Van hoping he didn't think she was a freak. The girl was having fun with him and she didn't want him to leave yet.
“Etta, what’s the best thing about New York so far? Besides meeting me of course.” The young man gave her a smile. She couldn't help but return the gesture. Letting out a small laugh, she tapped her chin with her right index finger. "Well, besides meeting you, it would have to be meeting people who understand me. It's also nice not to argue with my mom." She watched as Van put his feet on the table next to her drink. Raising an eyebrow, she looked at him and picked up her cup. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the woman behind the counter give an angry look towards the two teens. Henri tried not to laugh. The boy looked so relaxed about everything. It was like he tried not to worry about things. She wondered if it was an act, or if he really didn't worry much.
Looking at Van's feet a minute, she took a drink of coffee and set the cup back down. It wasn't like his feet were in her drink. There would've been a totally different reaction. One more along the lines of getting red-faced, saying ew a few dozen times, and then walking away in a huff. After all, sometimes a girl had to make a scene even if it seemed out of character.
"So, Van...what grade are you? I'm 16, so I'm a junior." She should be a junior, but she hadn't been studying so much lately. Wandering around had become a past time of hers. Yeah, Springfield was big, but this was something completely different. This place was huge and there were so many different kinds of people. She imagined Van never ran out of people to take pictures of and that there were always some sort of tourist-like people around.
Twyla agreed that it was a good song and Emerald didn’t seem to mind it, so Henri left it on. Henrietta’s mouth dropped slightly when she learned that the shifter was an X-Man. “That’s amazing. Did it take a long time?” She had a hint of curiosity in her voice. The brunette was curious as to what it entailed, but decided not to ask any more questions. She wasn’t sure what the girl thought about the situation. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to be nosy.”
The blonde pulled out the question sheet again. The question was beauty or brains and she said it didn’t matter if it was personal or about others. Henrietta thought for a moment. She did care about her looks, but she wouldn’t trade her intelligence for it and other people’s appearances weren’t a huge deal to her. People who weren’t very bright at all also had a tendency to annoy her. She would never show it or say it, but it was true. “Brains. I’d rather be smart and plain-looking than dumb as a rock and beautiful.” She smiled.
Henri watched as Twyla popped gummy bears very, very fast and she grinned. “That’s very impressive.” Remembering something, she turned and grabbed a bag of chips. “Anybody else like sour cream and onion chips? I’m willing to share.” She shook the bag.
Chris had dodged the punch with ease. Henrietta smiled when she saw that his mutation was helpful on land. The lead man, Nick, had yelled to grab her and the fish-boy was yelling to run. Don’t have to tell me twice… Turning, she came face to face with one of the men. She gasped as he reached out for her. Facing her body away again, she began to run.
She was just starting to pick up speed when something grabbed the back of her jacket. Glancing behind her, she saw the man’s hand holding on. Henri let out a frustrated sigh. Her hair flared to life again and wrapped around the man’s wrist. The two looked at each other with surprise, because she didn’t know what was going on either. This would have been funny to the brunette if she wasn’t so scared at that moment.
The man began to panic and tug at the hair. Reaching in his back pocket, he took out a Swiss Army knife. He began to saw at the brown locks, but nothing happened. Looking at Henri again, the grip on the man tightened. Yelping, he dropped the knife. “Let me go, freak!” Henri focused and made the hair release. After staring at the girl for a moment, he ran.
Henrietta was still trying to figure out what happened when she realized she wasn’t out of the woods yet. Running to catch up to Chris, she yelled to him, “Keep going!”
Coming to the coffee shop, Van grinned. Uh-oh, what’s he thinking? Before she had time to consider all the possible options, he grabbed her hand. He towed her along behind him and she felt color flood to her face. While feeling embarrassed, she turned and noticed a couple almost inside the door. Van realized this and beat the two inside. It was a close call, but they made it. Henri laughed, but then noticed how angry the other people were. She tried to stop laughing, but it turned into a smirk.
Van had whispered something in her ear. It was, “We won.” Henrietta blushed a little as he let go of her hand. The young man got his drink and then pointed at the table he was going to sit at. “I’ll be over there.” The brunette nodded. Looking at her options for a beverage, she decided to just get a black coffee. Telling the woman behind the counter what she wanted, she stood patiently. It only took about a minute to get the hot liquid. Before joining Van, she paid for her coffee and grabbed some sugar packets.
Henri walked over and sat across from the ninja photographer. She glanced at his cup with curiosity. “What did you get, Van? Just plain coffee?” The girl knew it was some type of coffee, but she wondered if he drank his black or if it was flavored. Taking a second to look around, she noticed how arty everyone seemed to be. She found herself wondering what type of person she’d be called, but snapped out of it so she could listen to Van’s answer.
The boy had thanked Henrietta twice now. She gave him a smile. "It was no problem. You were making me worried. They say that people get sleepy before they freeze to death. You look exhausted." Locke pretty much said that it would take forever to find his aunt and uncle. She bit her lip as she thought about the options the two teens had. Henri looked at him. If only he was a mutant, I could just lead him to the mansion. I don't know what our other options are besides a homeless shelter....Glancing at Locke, she scratched her head with one of her mitten covered hands. "What do you want to do?"
He asked if she ran away too. She turned and looked at the boy. "Not exactly. My mom shipped me away because...Well, because she didn't know what to do with me anymore. I think she's scared of what people will say." She tried to give the boy a smile to let him know it was no big deal, but it only displayed sadness. Henri turned away from the boy when she felt her face slip. "I've been in New York since November. I'm actually from Springfield, Illinois. It's a bit of a way." Still facing away, she asked, "Where did you run away from?"
When she had gotten next to him, he gave her a smile. He has a very nice smile, she thought. Well, he's just nice looking in general. Smile and all... Walking side by side, they began their journey to the coffee place that Van had mentioned. She felt excited. Maybe they'd have a chance to talk a while. Henrietta enjoyed making conversation.
There were spots that made it hard for the two to stick together, but the young man made sure they did. Coming to a crosswalk that cars were currently driving over, they stopped. "So how long have you been in New York?" The brunette turned and looked at him. "I've been in this grand state since the beginning of November." She didn't say it in a sarcastic tone at all. So far, the girl had quite liked New York. "I've been staying at a live-in school type of thing. I've made some friends. Not tons, but some." Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the sign change. The flow of cars had stopped and they walked across.
The two were still walking and Henri felt it was her turn to ask a question. "So have you lived in New York your whole life? I bet there's quite a bit to do around here." She glanced at Van and smiled shyly. Talking to guys wasn't something that occured frequently. Well, at least not guys close to her in age. Wondering exactly how close they actually were, she decided that she'd ask him at some point. The girl continued to walk next to the boy. She didn't feel as nervous as she thought she would've. It felt nice not to be anxious.
