The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nate and Twyla began to sing and Henri felt her face turn ever redder than it had earlier, if that was possible. She smacked her head lightly on the counter and let out a 'uhhh' noise. Keeping her head on the surface, she began to mutter so everyone could hear her. "I just don't know how the couple stuff works. I've never had a boyfriend before. I don't want to scare him away or something. I hear you guys can get skiddish sometimes." She glanced up at Nate and Gawain and sighed again.
Both males shared their advice. So, it seemed that they thought she should call Van. Why can't he call me? I'd feel so much less pressure that way. I don't want to babble like an idiot. Henrieta had a tendency to babble when she got nervous or uncomfortable. She could just imagine herself calling him and him saying he didn't want to see her. If that was the case, she didn't want to call and find that out. It's better to think you're liked than to know you aren't.
Luckily, the subject turned to an icky girl from Twyla's school. "This I can get into. There were those kind of girls at my school too. I think there are some everywhere." Henri rolled her eyes, but began to laugh when Twyla was trying to dance on her and the stool. The blonde then spoke about how many boyfriends this Kelly chick had had and how she was in Dance for attention. The brunette shook her head and made a disgusted noise. "What is the world coming to? Dance shouldn't be for popularity, it's about enjoyment. Almost anyone can dance. It's just a lot of fun." Henri crossed her arms and spun on her stool.
When Twyla had been dancing, Henri had noticed Gawain choking. She didn't mention, but it was still kind of funny. His face had turned decently red. It was your turn to feel awkward, buddy. Henrietta made eye contact with the boy and smirked.
Nate mentioned what she assumed was suppose to be 'Van'. Henrietta had water in her mouth and it spurted out onto the counter. She blinked a few times, stunned. Wait, what did he just say? Gawain asked who 'Ivan' was and the brunette felt her face turn red. She tried to sink into the stool, but there was no where to go. Sighing, she sat back up. "His name's Van. V-A-N. Like, as in the vehicle that holds many people. No I in front of that...And what do you mean, 'hooked up'?"
The girl glanced around the kitchen in a nonchalant way that was not working out for her. She could still feel that she was blushing and hadn't completely answered the question. Henri looked at Twyla and raised an eyebrow. "How does Nate know about Van?" She laughed so her friend knew she wasn't mad or anything. The brunette glanced at Gawain. Now he knew about Van too. "Well, I would like to introduce you guys to him at some point. I should really call him back soon and I want to, but I'm not sure how long you're supposed to wait after the first date..."
Clearing her throat, she looked at everyone one at a time. Her face still flushed, she smiled. "So...Now what do you want to talk about? Any good topics that don't involve making me change funny colors?"
Henrietta grinned at Slate. "Honestly, I had never heard of the Kabal until now. I didn't know what the group was called. That's probably why I have so many misconceptions. I technically don't know what it is." She blushed slightly from embarrassment and then gave Lenna a small smile. "She had been telling me there was a place I could do people good where I wouldn't have to hurt anyone. I really like the thought of helping others in a way where I wouldn't have to do something I was morally opposed to."
"I'd love to help all types of people. I have nothing against non-mutants." She fidgeted in her chair and stared at her lap for a moment. "I've just felt a little targeted lately and I'm starting to get sick of it. It would be amazing if everyone could just accept each other. Hating other people isn't going to make anyone happier." The brunette felt her eyes sting as if she was going to cry. She blinked a few times to make the feeling go away. It didn't completely work. All she could think of was how repulsed her mother had seemed by her daughter's mutation.
"M-..My mother and I haven't spoken for months. She sent me to New York in November when people found out about my power. If I could help people so they don't have to feel like a freak, I would be so happy. For that to happen though, I guess mutants can't keep hate for humans. That's not what I have at all, actually. Just sadness most of the time." Henrietta was staring at the table's surface, trying not to feel pathetic. I have to behave like an adult. You're by yourself like one, so act like one. Forcing a smile on her face, she looked at the two Kabal members. "That's just how I feel..."
“You have been too?! I’ve had no other way to refer to the situation. I didn’t know what you were calling Mirror, so I tried not to think of them a certain way, you know?” She was whispering to the blonde. Before this, Twyla had talked about how Nate did whatever he wanted. Henri wondered what she exactly meant by this. She didn’t need to ask. The longer she watched, the more she learned exactly what her friend had meant.
Nate went right passed the girl holding the refrigerator door and helped himself to pickles and soda. He then made his way over to the counter and put his feet on it. His younger sister pushed his feet back off again. Henri smirked to herself and shook her head. Twyla requested an apple, but Gawain retrieved it. He joked with the brunette that she was going to eat the whole apple by herself. She laughed. “Yeah, I’m gonna be putting on the pounds, huh?” The girl poked her lack-of-gut and then smiled at the rest of the people in the room.
Gawain asked how Nate he’d be staying. As she waited to hear what he was going to say, she made herself comfortable on one of the stools. She left two seats between the two in case Mirror and Twyla wanted to sit there. Taking a bite of her apple, she spun the stool one turn counter-clockwise. She put her foot out and stopped. It didn’t take long to see what she was after. She lifted her water glass to her mouth and then set it back down. All right, now I’m ready for more conversation.
The boy apologized and Henrietta shrugged. “It isn’t your fault. I’m just hoping that she’ll call or come to visit soon. That’d be kind of nice.” Just kind of. Most of it depended on her mother’s attitude, which always varied. The girl wasn’t sure if her mom would ever come around to the idea of having a mutant as a daughter. Henri hadn’t spoken to her mom in months. She would send money in the mail here and there, but there was never really a conversation involved. Why talk about something when you could just try to ignore it?
Brian mentioned the Mansion and the brunette turned and looked at him. “Yeah, it’s Xavier’s Sister School. A lot of people just call it ‘the Mansion’ though. Why do you ask?” She stared at him suspiciously for a moment and then looked back out across the park. “I’ve been living there since I got here. It’s a nice place. I’ve made lots of friends, which is new for me.” Henri left it at that. She didn’t feel the need to explain her lifestyle back home.
Henrietta brought her leg up and checked on her knee once more. Rubbing it, she winced slightly. It’d be really nice if this would stop hurting soon. Like really, really nice. I know it’s not serious and I think I could stand on it now, but still. It’s the principle of the matter.
Henri walked passed Gawain and said a ‘thank you’. She smiled at him and continued to walk further into the kitchen to get out of everyone else’s way. The girl glanced around the large room and sighed quietly. She was beginning to feel hungry, but she wasn’t sure what she wanted. I hate it when that happens. Hmm, I wonder if there’s apples. She glanced at the three other people and smiled. It was really nice to hang out with them. It sure was interesting to observe the similarities and differences between Twyla and Nate.
Twyla came next to Henrietta and began to whisper to her. She said that Gawain was probably Nate’s new favorite teenager. The brunette smirked and then giggled. “I thought your brother would be a little concerned by your…something asking about alcohol. Of course, if he drinks, it might’ve been a good move on Mirror’s part.” Henri watched as the two males wandered a little farther off and then began to converse. “I wonder what they’re talking about.” She turned and smiled at her best friend.
The brunette went to a cabinet and opened it. Feeling around, she found a glass. Walking over to the sink she began to fill it up. She set it on the counter and then continued her search for nourishment. Henrietta walked over to the refrigerator and opened it. Sticking her head in, she made a ‘hmm’ noise. When she came back out, she was holding a red apple and grinning. “Apples sounded really good to me right now. Anyone want me to grab something out of here for them before I shut the door? Any takers? Going once, going twice…”
Henrietta and Lenna were led by a man to a room with a table. At the head of this table sat a young man who couldn’t have been much older than her. He introduced himself as Slate Swartz. She blinked as he greeted Lenna. Is he the person she was talking about? He looks so young and..familiar. The brunette tried to place him. Who..? An image of Calley flashed in her mind. He looked just like Calley. He had been the first person she had met when she arrived in New York, so she’d probably never forget him.
For a moment, she just looked at the boy. “Um, I’m sorry if I seem rude. You look like someone I’ve met. Almost exactly, maybe even exactly.” The girl decided to leave out the part that had to do with the prince costume she had seen Calley wearing. “Anyway, I’m Henrietta Braun. It’s very nice to meet you.” She took the man’s hand in her own and shook it. He gestured to sit down. Henri glanced behind her to make sure the chair was behind her before taking a seat.
She noticed a ledger. It looked very full and there was a large number. Henrietta moved her eyes away almost immediately. She hoped that he hadn’t seen and thought she was trying to be nosey. That was the last thing she was trying to do. She wanted to make a good impression. Henri was really hoping that she could be of some help to other mutants and if he could make it happen, she’d have to get him to like her.
“Lenna was telling me you have a more humanitarian group here. I’d really like to do something good for other mutants, but I wouldn’t want to hurt people, necessarily. I’m not sure if you need to ask me any questions or see a demonstration of my power or not. Feel free to ask away.” The brunette glanced around the room and then smiled at the young man. “I have to say, I’m very impressed. I had no idea you would be so young. You already seem so very successful at such an early age. I hope that doesn’t offend you at all.” She meant it with the upmost respect and it was obvious by her tone.
Henri tried to focus on what the younger girl was telling her. She seemed to enjoy physics. At least that was what the brunette got out of all of it. Part of her brain was still buzzing with the thoughts of mutant rights. I want to help stop this someday. I don’t want everyone to have to see this stuff on television. I don’t want other kids to sit and wonder what’s wrong with them, like I did at first. That’s just not fair. She looked at the other two girls. The girl wondered if they had felt like that when they learned what they were.
It was nice to know that her subject change worked effectively. Henri grinned to herself slightly. They were now talking about school-type of things. She was glad to see that both girls really wanted to use the subject change. She knew that she had. Discussing something saddening wasn't really in her agenda. I might at well use this chance to share too.
Twyla said she liked biology. Henrietta smiled and kept her head lying on the couch. She sighed and closed her eyes. “I like lots of subjects. I’m a pretty big fan of English classes and Anatomy and Physiology. It’s an interesting subject.” The girl stopped and turned her head to the right. “Oh, I enjoyed learning about cultures.” Henri laughed. “I kind of went off about subjects in general. It started with math and sciences, but oh well.”
Henrietta opened her eyes and smiled at the other two girls. She remembered that her and Twyla were supposed to go to the YMCA, but didn’t just want to leave adorable little Ruby sitting there all alone. The brunette glanced at her friend to judge what she was thinking. She was hoping they’d make eye contact so she could tell easier. Come on, Twyla. Look at me here. I’m wondering what you think we should do.
Henrietta stood as everyone talked. The blonde’s brother asked about crazy parties and the girl laughed. “Nope, not too many of those in my short 16 years. I’ve actually never been to anything close to a wild party. My version is probably watching an R-rated movie and staying up until God-knows-when in the morning." She grinned, slightly form embarrassment of being so lame.
Nate was obviously hungry and Twyla mentioned going to the kitchen. Gawain seemed to agree and the brunette nodded in agreement as well. “Sure, I’m up for it. I usually have room for food. I’m gifted like that.” Henri smirked and walked with the three people to the kitchen. Mirror mentioned something about getting Twyla’s brother a beer. She glanced at him and raised an eyebrow as if to question his thought-process in that statement. Does he really think that was a good thing to say or did it just kind of come out?
Henrietta was walking behind the rest of the people to get to the kitchen. She was a bit in her own world. The girl had been thinking about having her mother come down ever since she heard Twyla was having Nate down. She wasn’t sure if that would be a good idea, but part of her wanted to try to have that relationship with her female role model once again. Well, having a female role model in general would be kind of nice and couldn’t hurt.
Nate smiled and said how he’d heard a lot about Henri too. She smiled. “I hope it’s all good.” She stopped to try to think of anything bad that could be said. Hmm, well, I tried fighting a giant clay thing. I’m overly concerned with my appearance at times. I guess none of it is too bad. It could be a lot worse. I could do drugs and hear voices. She tilted her head to the side slightly and shook her head.
Twyla was holding the library door open with a smile on her face. Gawain let both Nate and Henrietta go first. She gave him an appreciative smile and followed after Nate into the library. He asked if Twyla did anything else. Henri laughed and nodded. “We hang out and dance sometimes. It’s really fun, not to mention she’s an awesome dancer.” She smiled at her best friend and gave her a pat on the back.
She looked around at all of the books and smiled. The brunette loved to read as well and she was glad to see the inside of the library once again. She had only visited a few times. The first time was when Twyla had taken her on the grand tour of the huge Mansion. That had been the first time Henri had met her best friend. She had been so happy to meet someone that could relate to her and also loved to dance. The girl had heard there were other mutants out there, but it had been so hard to believe until she saw them.
Brian seemed to like America pretty well so far. Henri nodded and smiled. “That’s good. I’m glad you like it. I’m from Illinois, which is a decently long way from here.” She kicked at some snow that lied on the ground absently. The brunette looked up again when he brought up how people disliked mutants. He said he would just lay down next to them and take a nap.
Henrietta raised an eyebrow and looked at Brian. “You really think that would do anything? Some people don’t even want anything to do with their own children when they learn they’re mutants.” She looked away and swung her legs. “My mother signed me up for a school here after the whole city started to hear about me and my power. She treated me like it was an illness and I could get over it.” Henri felt her voice crack slightly, so she stopped talking.
Henrietta attempted to lift something heavier, but it didn't work. She turned and stared at Lenna. Wow, I bet that comes in handy. The brunette smiled and shook her head slightly. "That's very cool. It scared me a little though at first. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me." She laughed and then noticed a bus pull up.
The woman asked Henri if she'd want to go meet the person now. She opened her mouth slightly and then shut it again. I hope I don't embarrass myself or something. Wouldn't that be something? Inside, she rolled her eyes at the thought of her tripping or saying something dumb, but on the outside she nodded. "Sure, I'm not busy now. I'm in." Okay, quick pep talk. Just think before you speak. Come on, Henrietta they teach you this in kindergarten. You'll be fine.
Brian shared that he was from Belgium. Oh, that's why he sounds a little different. She smiled at him. "So how do you like the United States so far? Everything you dreamed it would be?" Henrietta smirked jokingly at her last question. She loved her country, but she'd never been to another country to compare it to. How was she supposed to know if this was the best place to live? The brunette always thought a lot of European countries looked pretty nice. Maybe she'd travel when she got older.
The boy said she didn't have to apologize because it was better than being with someone who didn't say anything. Henri laughed and looked at Brian. "That's very true. I hate one-sided conversations. They make me feel a little ridiculous and stupid." Of course, the girl talked a lot more than she used to. Back in Springfield, she had been very silent and just tried to blend into the background. It was usually and effective strategy and resulted in having a lack of eyes on her most of the time.
All of a sudden, the boy dropped a bombshell. He told her that he was a mutant and what his ability was. She turned and stared at him a moment. Did he just announce that in public? Glancing around, she noticed there was no one close by. She lowered her voice a bit. "Be careful who you say that in front of. Some people don't like mutants too much. There are riots in some places. It's so ridiculous." Stopping, she sighed slightly. "We aren't that different than them." The girl paused, and the added, "I'm a mutant too." She made a piece of her hair lift into the air slightly. She smiled. "By the way, that's a pretty cool power. How long have you known you were one?"
Twyla's eyes became sad looking as she stared at the photo of the baby boy. She passed the photographs to Henri and she looked down at the cute, little baby. The brunette smiled as she looked at the picture for a moment. "That's your nephew? He's so cute." The girl smiled and handed the photos to Nate. "Congrats on being an uncle. That must be exciting." The blonde had shot down the hall to go to the library. The trio followed her, but not at the same pace she had used. It seemed like she might need a minute to clear her head or something.
Nate had asked Gawain how she's been holding up. Henrietta listened to their conversation without saying anything. The question hadn't been directed to the brunette, so she remained silent. Mirror talked about how it was a good place for them and how everyone took care of each other. The girl smiled to herself. It was true. They did all kind of take care of each other in some way or another. Henri thought back to all the times she had talked and made friends at the mansion. It had been very good for her, personally.
They were getting closer to the library and Henri started thinking about how nice it must've been to have a family member come visit. She smiled, but then frowned a little. It must be kind of sad too. It's only one person out of her family and he'll have to leave again. I'm not sure if I'd ever want my mother to come here anyway. I can just about imagine how that would go over. The brunette laughed quietly to herself. Her mother would be shocked at how big the inside was. She probably wouldn't know what to do first. Well, at least what to clean first.
The two siblings said something at the same time and then smirked almost identically. Henrietta blinked and then shook her head, as if to clear it. Nope, they still look and act the same, even after shaking my brain around like an Etch-a-Sketch. The brunette pictured an image fading away after a chibi person shook their head in a very intense manner. She smirked to herself. Well, that's definitely something someone needs to do for an anime.
Bringing her attention back to what was happening in front of her, she noticed Twyla getting mad with Nate. He kept harrassing her about Gawain and it was obvious she was getting sick of it pretty fast. Henri felt bad for both people. Twyla felt embarrassed, but Nate thought he was helping. She turned and glanced at Mirror. He wasn't really saying anything about it. Of course, what could he say really? Most things he might say could be thought of as a negative to the blonde's sibling. He seemed like a hawk, just waiting for you to say something that he didn't approve of. The girl admired him though. He really did seem like a good brother, even if he did embarrass his sister sometimes. I kind of wish someone got weirdly protective of me.
Twyla's elder brother then hugged her and told her how much he worried she was going to get hurt. Uh-oh. I wonder what Gawain's thinking. That kind of seemed like a Mirror-seeking missle to me. He changed the subject gracefully though, if he had been offended. He recommended going to the kitchen for some breakfast. Henrietta smiled, eager to help anyone she could in this awkward situation. "Yeah, I'm almost always up for food." She laughed slightly and looked to see if Twyla still looked mad or not. She couldn't tell.
I'll have to talk to her later and find how she thinks this is going. Henri was excited to meet her best friend's favorite brother, but kind of felt like she needed to be there for moral support too. The Twyla-Mirror thing was complicated, but she knew that they were both good people and should do what felt right to them. Henrietta would be standing beside Twyla through this awkward situation. Like a rock.
